Send it all to area diesel service I had some issues with my injectors on a military generator Cost was $50 each to completely rebuild them. Thank you so so much for saving those old work horses 😊❤😊 I loved running the JD-450 C and ran a 350 ( rental ) for a friend building moving dirt for his outdoor workshop. So I ran a 350 all day. My understanding is the steering system inside is different than the 450. On a used 450 C another friend bought ( used) he let me smooth my yard out for grass at my just bought home, I was setting up my yard. The problem we had with the 450 was it had a ( Alaska overhaul) thats a joke my friend 😊😊 it means just a spray paint clean up on a used piece of equipment 😊 the dozer would run for say 20 minutes then start surging and Die. We went through TWO fuel pumps ( problem still.) What we found out with a Alaska overhaul paint job WAS. They had sprayed paint ( over spray) On this TINY screen on FUEL tank at the underside of SEAT at base of TANK , there is a small mess screen at tank at bottom going to Engine There was over spray YELLOW 🟡 paint all over screen that starved the engine for fuel. My favorite 450 JD are the ones with the backhoe attachment on back, I ran a 570 JD road grader, and I lover how JD used the same ( T) handle for moldboard Control just like the 350 & 450 dozers. When JD came out with that (T) handle blade control, in my Humble opinion JD was so far ahead ( in the 1970s) on operator control of blade. Just like there first excavator on market, with joysticks just like rubber tired backhoe, the only difference was JD had the boom and Dipper control on different side as say CAT when they came out with there first excavator.
Thanks for the comments! I can see you are passionate about these old machines. I too agree they were really advanced for their time. Are you in Alaska? I actually saw a really nice JD450 dozer with a backhoe on it when I was up there visiting this summer.
Just some things I'll note, having been around a 350 all my life. 0.01c Being a direct injection engine, without a turbo, and analog fuel system. Makes them unusually loud, for a 4 stroke. . The track pads are something like 1-1/8 tall when new, so id say there functional but really worn out. In terms of traction, pulling logs, using a ripper or serious dirt moving. There supriseingly efficient as they have the ability to change directions of a hydrostatic, but are actually direct drive. After you get it going and run it a few hours steady you will know if theres slip in the power reverser. . Its basically a automatic transmission, thats 1 to1 in bolth directions, and a clutch in place of a torque converter. Everything else is as if its a regular gear drive setup. . For are 350 with a winch on the rear, any time the reverser is in forward. The winch has power, so you can line in stationary or driving forward. Pto Must be engaged to free spool out. Winch control lever would be on right hand side of seat basically against your leg, if it has any remaining parts. Ripper, winch, backhoe and ripper with small winch are the configurations ive seen. . Usually backhoes are on a frunt end loader version of a 350 Ive also seen a few 450s with a loader version.
Thanks for the info! Yeah I have a feeling these track pads were re-used when rails and sprockets were replaced. The wear they have doesnt match up with the bushing and sprocket conditions. I have a 450B that is the opposite. Beautiful tall grousers and sloppy town up track chains. Thanks for stopping by!
@spankranchgarage probably the worst I've seen is on are 440 loader. They would probably just about make a 360 flat on the ground. . It has pads on it held with 2 bolts per pad. And are perfectly smooth for loader use. Problem is, chains to reuse the 2 bolt pads are no longer available new.
If your check valve keeps clogging up your fiber gear inside your pump is coming apart. You are going to have to rebuild your high pressure fuel pump. Make sure and have your engine on TDC with the timer on the back of the engine before you pull your pump.
@@spankranchgarage With some of the other things I have seen you do on here I don't think you will have an issue. The main thing is when you go behind someone that doesn't put something back in the proper place.. That one doesn't look like it has been opened so you should be fine. I am not sure depending on the kit you buy if they give the wear tolerances on some of the parts in there but there is a manual on those pumps but they are kinda pricey. Good luck with it. You probably will have to clean and adjust those injectors also but I believe you went through that with the 450 so you know about that. Make sure and check the bolts that holds the reverser case to the trans. There are two that are a real bear to get to. They are known for working loose and either breaking off the casting or breaking off the bolts in the housing. If they do that you have to pull it to get them out. It pays to keep an eye on them to make sure they are tight.
