I was looking for a second rucksack for the camping equipment, and came across this pack on eBay. So I decided to google this thing and it’s use. I happened across your video and repurposing it for a load carrier. Absolutely ecstatic with your detailed how to video! Came out of pocket for one and will be doing similar modifications myself. Thank you for your time and effort making these videos. Regarding the floppiness of the top of the pack, I think a heavy duty cinch and wooden toggle with a loop sewn to the bag would take care of that problem… I shall try!
Thank You! I feel for a Medium or Small load this pack works well as a Load Hauler. There are still things i want to do with this pack and I will post more videos as I do. I did wind up attaching a webbing strap and buckle to the top to deal with the floppiness. It worked well. Thank you for sharing this with everyone. I deeply appreciate it and I'm certain many others will as well! Have a fantastic day!
Brother John another great and informative video.....I'm going to have to start paying you for all the learning I'm doing!!! Seriously I'm starting to feel guilty 😉🙂👍 I have two straps on my mountain smith pack I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to get right now thanks to you fixed!!! Thank you brother!!! Awesome video 🙂👍❤🙏🙏🙏🙂👍🌳🌲⛺🔥🛶🌳🌲🌞
Thank You Brother Jay! Now that I have this channel I have someplace to share all this "INFORMATION". Up until now, if someone asked me an outdoors related question, they soon act as if they had just opened Pandora's Box! After about 15 minutes they looked like deer staring at headlights! Then I feel like Cliff Clavin from CHEERS...... HAHAHAAAAA!!!!!😄😆😅
I really like this video and I think it gave me a lot of good idea. There’s only one question, could you please tell me the dimensions of the connection pad? That squared one put on the overload area to connect.
First Comment ;) Great video as always, that "don't forget to like / 1:20 " section you added, in the beginning, was a good addition. I actually have that patch still and ended up putting it on my "Directors" Captain's Hat. Haha. You should put a link in the description to sell those again if you don't still. You could even design your own "UA-cam Followers" Patch, like your own personal Malitia/Army. I say the modifications to the pack would be very helpful. I don't care for bags that flop around.
I thought it was a really great video, the details were fantastic. I looked for the list of the details of where everything came from that you used to alter and Advance the bag but couldn't find it. I would love to know where you got the webbing and clips at. Thanks for all the knowledge it's not often you find somebody that will take the time to go that deep into making something better any easier to use for multi-purpose, in your instructional videos the way you do it is great. By the way how's the planning for the trips coming?
I completely forgot the list! Thank you for reminding me. So sorry for that. I will try to add it this evening. Thank you for your kind words. I know the manner in which I publish videos is not everyone's cup of tea, which is fine. However if someone appreciates details and in-depth information, they might like my take on things. I have too many irons in the fire and several plans in the works. All of them are going okay but my South Carolina trip is going to have to take precedence soon. That will be epic! Thank you again and I hope you have a great day!
I finally added the list of supplies and links where everything can be acquired. Planning for everything has been a challenge! Free time has been rare. I am using the time I get as strategically as possible!!!!
I just took a look at it and the "frame" is in some way attached to the bottom storage, main compartment and top rigid panel. You would need to cut all of these away to repurpose the frame/harness assembly. None of the parts removed could readily be attached to anything. They would all have to be extensively modified to be reattached to a filbe frame. All of my other Mystery Ranch Packs are removeable from the frame. I have been considering piecing the Thor II out for parts.
Yes. Some of the straps are in an awkward location so I made my own that were in much better locations. With a small load that fills the jammer location the pack cinches quite tight. The built in frame however is very narrow so the pack has a tendency to wobble while while hiking. With all the loads I field tested, I found smaller lighter loads are best for this pack. The wobble isn't as bad and I get use to it after a bit. I'm still not finished with this pack, it's just on the back burner. I plan to revisit it in the Spring and devise a few more modifications to address the issues I have with it. Even after that is done, It will still be a "pack frame" for smaller lighter loads. Have a great day and thanks for posting your question!
About 20 minutes into this tutorial, I reached for my credit card to spend the extra $230. to get the purpose-made load hauler! These modifications are complex. I'd rather spend my time using the right equipment. It might have helped if you showed the ammo cans you intend to carry in the load hauler as well as the case up front, to show how it would all come together when all was done.
Hahaha..... I much prefer to go purpose built as well James! However, the expectation didn't live up to the reality and I had to find a way to make it work (at least a little bit if nothing else). The field tests will include 4 types of loads. My camera load, cache (ammo can) load, camp load and firewood load. Time constraints are frustrating! I wish there was a way to share photos in the comments, I'd love to see your use of the Load Sling!
@@boonedockery7220 I wish I knew how to do video posts! I am old for that, in spite of having done a lot with desktop computers. I could 'amp up' my Amazon reviews. ( I am among Amazon's top 1000 reviewers.) I could share SO MUCH MORE with my family members who are far away.
Great informative video John. Enjoy your wild camp. Thanks for sharing.
Thank You Very! I've been on a couple since I've posted this video and they were both enjoyed!

Thanks Dakota! I always seem to forget to be pushy and self promoting..... Even Though "This Is The Way"! Haahaha😅😄😆

Hello, do you know if it's possible to take the frame away from the pack? Or is it permanantly together. I want to put my filbe on it if possible.

Will the pack tighten down close enough to the frame that you could comfortably have a folded sleeping bad where the jammer is meant to go?
