Old Gravely MA210 Snowblower coupled to a powerful 16hp tractor

  • This old snowblower was designed in the days of 8hp tractors. However, it's made so well that a 16hp tractor doesn't seem to stress it. A slip clutch is used in lieu of shear pins, which is nice to have when blowing snow on gravel driveways.

Hey folks, So glad you appreciate this video of my old Gravely machinery. I'm trying to distinguish my videos from the others by having good sound, which this single cylinder big bore Kohler has in spades. If you're using this blower on a gravel driveway like I do, take note of my home-made skids mounted to the blower frame. These two skids, each with a ski foot that is 1" wide by 12" long, serve to keep the blower raised above the gravel road surface.

Great feedback! Perhaps I did a few things right to inspire such enthusiasm for the short video. I hauled out my studio recording gear to capture the soundtrack, so if you listened with headphones or nice speakers you might have heard the old machine growl for sure. Thanks.

I've got two 5665's with a 12-horse 301 and I don't need even THAT much so I can relate to a 16. Seems like the driveline could take either 30 or 35 horses so you don't have a thing to worry about.

Thanks for watching my video Lewie, and for the encouraging comments on the driveline. We also had a 5665 at one time. These old walk-behind Gravelys were, and still are, in a class by themselves, especially with the larger displacement engines.

Stephen Ball I've got a mechanic buddy that has a rider with a Honda V-twin on it for a puller. I better stick with the 301's. I had 5 at one time but a great blow out remedied that. Now it's just two 5335's one with a kidney mower and one with a rotary plow. I've been killed by the old Gravely engine powered ones and learned a lot about not trying to push one but let it do it's thing. Works lots better like that. Keep after the snow, Steven! You've got the rig just for it!

How much light snow do you think this can realistically go through? 24? 36? Wet snow, maybe 18"?

    • @stephenball3387
      @stephenball3387  4 роки тому +2

The height of the snowblower's opening is just over 12" from the ground so I have to be conscious of that when large storms are coming. Any deeper than that and the machine will typically tunnel under deeper snow and drifts requiring another pass. Wet snow is a struggle sometimes due to clogging unless I remember to spray some silicone in the chute ahead of time.

as he said no real limit except tunneling under makes you have to back out when the snow ledge collapses to cleanup the snow. NJ had ~32" in 1996, snow plow guy canceled on us (state shut down the roads). It took me all day but my 6.6HP gravely and snow blower cleared out an 800 foot driveway. Slow going, take ~2 foot bite, back out, forward clear snow, another 2' bite, back out, etc.

      @@chrisyu98 ,
I used to work at the Gravely shop and rebuilt many of these ,
      Every single part !
      From engines to Transmission.
      I had 4 at one time !
      Only have one now ,
14hp and it has the quick hitch pin ,
There is like 10 different attachments that can be mounted to it , I have the 30 inch brush cutter and 50 inch finishing mower , and I can switch them in under 1 minute .
I have boxes of parts , clutches, pistons, valves, etc.
      Been a Gravely Mechanic since 1998 .
      I also have a 50 inch Gravely Zero Turn with a 24hp engine ,
It can mow 7 Football fields in one hour .
