Richard and Emily were not perfect parents, but they truly did their best to support Lorelai, not only here but whenever she and Rory needed them. I hate how Christopher's parents talk about him being a baby and not sacrificing his future, society always judges pregnant women but men get a free pass because of that.
Christopher had a free pass Rory's entire life. He got to come in like once a year and act like this great dad and then disappeared again to leave all the real responisibility to Lorelai. She had to make all the sacrifices, while he slacked off.
I’ve got SO angry at Lorelei After watching this. I’ve been watching the series ( in disorder) and Her parents are portrayed as TERRIBLE people! they didn't support Lorelai at all. they controlled her and manipulated her. Emily never listens to Lorelai and thinks she knows, what's best for Lorelai and she don't. I understand Lorelai and why she hates her parents she can't do anything right without Emily jumoing down her throat. Lorelei didn't feel safe and she was unloved by her parents she felt alone.
Why are these people crying and making a fuss? Have the baby, get a nanny, and have the kids finish high school. Its not like you ain't got money, honey!
Because there was a time when society expected that people make a commitment (marriage) before producing children. These days everyone humps like animals and women have 4 kids with 4 different dudes who aren't involved in their kids lives at all and that's why poverty is so bad.

Well in America child marriage or minior marriage is still legal in the USA this flashback takes place in the 80s 1984 I'm sure it was more likely back than than in the 21st century in Connecticut which is the American state which Gilmore girls takes place the Marriage age was 16 years old with permission from parents and guardians the law wasn't changed untill 2023 in real life to 18 years old completely banned child marriage. So it would have been perfectly legal.
Emily and Richard love Lorelei unconditionally. There was no question of ‘sending her away’ and they wanted her and Christopher to live with them, with their child. That being said, they were also distant, controlling, insensitive, narcissistic, critical, and manipulative, so they were not good parents. Highlighted by how neither asked Lorelei what she wanted, and the way Emily yelled at Lorelei when she was in labour.
No they were defending the culture and ideas of their time. Which as much as we have issues with them them they did hold society together, now we have obesity, crime, welfare dependency, debt and mental health crisis.
@saltnessmonster but the flashback takes place in 1984 in the 80s this wasn't like a century earlier in the 19th century where upper class or upper middle class people have a huge influence on soicety. Plus we see Christopher mom Francine crying about how Christopher is still a child and is too young to have a child at age 16 which is a very modern late 20th century perspective. A 100 years earlier or earlier that century 16 year Olds being parents and having a child at 16 wasn't soically unacceptable
What Lorelai wanted is so simple for her parents to ask her first what's her plan after she got pregnant they treated her as if she couldn't think for herself the moment she got pregnant. Emily and Richard clearly meant well but I guess they were a victim of their times, social class and generation. Where a woman was supposed to get married if she gets pregnant. That never works now we all know that. Just because two young people get married because they have a kid doesn't mean their marriage would be healthy. It could even be worse if their marriage life is full of fights later on due to them being teenage parents and then their kid is just watching them do that at an early age if what happened with them is in 2020 or something co-parenting would have been really been accepted and treated normally. I guess it's because their parents from both sides came from old money that they don't accept new ideas of parenting methods back then.
They were being so horrible to Lorelai. It just proves that they didn’t love her, no matter what. Why don’t they blame Christopher? He was the one who got her pregnant. i dont think chris really actually wanted that , plus they're sixteen i dont think that that would mean they are great parents , but now look at them lorelais a wonderful mom
I think in this scene, Emily and Richard mostly had Lorelai’s back in front of Christopher’s parents. They wanted to protect the family and family name as much as possible. They weren’t bad parents and they did genuinely care, but they were much more harsh on Lorelai when Christopher’s parents weren’t around. Just like in a present-day scene in season 1 when Emily and Richard invite Christopher and his parents for a reunion dinner and for Rory to meet her paternal grandparents for the first time. It quickly turned ugly with Straub and Francine making a scene. Richard shut it down, defended Lorelai and threw the guests out. But when Lorelai later tried to thank him for having her back he said that he didn’t do it for her but to protect the Gilmore name.
Its funny they showed Chris and Lorelai staring at Rory when she was a baby. Chris didnt look to thrilled about getting married or being a father. Chris wanted to do it cause the parents wanted them to do it.
Lorelei has always been mad. To be honest, I love Gilmore girls as a show, but I honestly don't even see the point of why Lorelei had to be the way she was growing up and finally as an adult, I don't think she deserved her parents to be honest
Gotta love Richard here. He sits there listening to everyone’s hysterics and abuse, when someone finally asks what the solution is, he stands up declares what the plan is and ends the discussion. Be more like Richard.
I always feel like it was strange for lorelai to tell chris not give up sleeping on benches in paris. Wouldnt you want your man with you why would you push him away. Maybe she didnt really love him and getting pregnant made her realize that. Or she felt guilty being pregnant meant the couldnt sneak to Paris. I do feel she kind of pished chridtopher away but christopher shouldve been a man from start and worked hard to earn the trust of lorelai and his daughter. His parents did not instill that in him it shows and its sad. 😔
it kind of seemed Francine was dominated by Straub. When Christopher had Gigi he said his mom was happy about it, by then I think Straub had passed. He still wasn't married
But Lorelai's parents were really supportive of her, she should've accepted their economic help. I don't undertand why she wanted to leave her house so young...
Pride plays a factor, but I think it's because she never wanted that life and she wanted out. It's also likely she felt as if she brought shame to her parents and that she believed they wanted her gone.
I think Emily has shown that "help" from her comes with a million strings and having it constantly thrown in your face. It would've just been a way to exert more control over Lorelai's life and undermine her with Rory.
Seriously, I will never understand how Lorelai could hate her parents as much as she does. Emily resolutely defends her and refuses to even consider the idea of shipping her off like some kind of shameful secret. And yeah, Richard is a bit heavy handed in his whole "they'll get married" declaration. But he is clearly not doing it because "it's socially proper," but because in his mind that is how you build a home and support network for his coming grandchild and provide the best life for his daughter. They weren't perfect, but they certainly don't deserve any of the bullshit Lorelai heaps upon them...
I could never be team Emily and Richard. They are to controlling and they never once cared or listened to Lorelai. It's all about there pride and social status.
I just love how Christopher was willing to actually marry Lorelai and sacrifice his plans of going to Europe and traveling around to be with her and support her. Looking at clips like these really does show you that Lorelai had no plan whatsoever. I mean, marriage at a young age I can get, it's a no in my book. I mean, it's her choice for sure but at the same time, at least Emily and Richard had a plan. Having Christopher stay with them and work at Richard's firm until he finished college or whatever didn't seem like such a bad plan. I mean, it was more of a plan than Lorelai had, which was none. She had no plan at all. She was willing to just "figure it out", instead of actually coming up with a reasonable plan that would benefit her and her baby (Rory) just fine. I understand that Richard and Emily weren't the best parents in the world, hell they weren't perfect but nobody is truly perfect in this world and I'm sure that Lorelai wasn't the best daughter either. She made a choice to have unprotected sex, she knew the consequences and still decided to go ahead and do it. I agree that she should hold blame and so should Christopher as well.
You love how the guy who ultimately abandoned his first kid and was a shit father to both his kids was, for a brief second, willing to give up a trip to Europe? Right, he should get a parade.
@@janise01 Excuse me read my first comment all the way through because clearly you didn't. I never said that I liked how he abandoned Rory or his other child. I said I loved how he was willing to step up the first time around. Seriously, please read before you comment back. Thanks
So, why exactly she didn't get the abortion if it was such a big deal? And why couldn't Christopher go to college, it's not like he was ever an active part of Rory's life?
@@lauriecarson6483 In fact, despite not speaking openly, the series several times gave indications that the Gilmore family was Catholic and followed their customs and traditions, they would never let Lorelai have an abortion even if she wanted to.
I find emily normally annoying but huge shoutout to her for not wanting Lorelei to get an abortion. I do think they should have asked the kids their opinions but the idea was good to have them get married (when it is legal for them to do so) and have him work there. I feel like the Gilmore parents seem like the type to want their daughter to have an abortion but no. Hats off to them :) also I hate how “Christopher’s future is out the window” like I hate how men get a free pass on all that.
It's Lorelai's fault that Rory grew up without a father present and that Rory became such a failure (highly correlated!). It's just sad to see that never once did she have to own up to her depriving her daughter of a stable father figure. Maybe Christopher would've skipped town anyway, who knows, but he never got the chance to prove himself. Possibly this moment cemented his incapability to be responsible.
Oh bull shit. It's Chris's fault for not fighting for Rory and not taking responsibility for his action. Who says Chris can have a free pass for not being a dad.
Typical guy blaming the women for something she didn't do. It takes two to tango and it also takes two takes responsibility for their action like Lorelai did. Chris is a fuckin coward.
Lf, where are you from? And there wouldn’t a show if she’d gotten an abortion. Babies = storylines, so don’t take tv shows at face value. I don’t think the majority of Americans are against abortions, just mostly some states.
Yes, it's so hypocritical especially when Christopher's father suggests it because it gets his son off the hook. But pro choice believe women are full human sovereign beings. Pro life is only pro unborn life. Once you get here, forget it.
I think Emily and Lorelai already had a discussion prior to this moment, so she possibly said “Because I said so” as I way to avoid the fact that Lorelai decided to keep Rory.

I love how they made Strove much younger
Christopher’s mum is Peter Petrelli’s mum. How interesting! 😂
Gotta love Richard here. He sits there listening to everyone’s hysterics and abuse, when someone finally asks what the solution is, he stands up declares what the plan is and ends the discussion. Be more like Richard.
Where was THIS Emily throughout the show?! The Emily who defended and fought for her daughter!
Christopher looks like Luke from HalloweenTown
It is him the handsome goblin
Richard and Emily might have their issues with Lorelai but they sure did love their daughter.
Could someone tell me, which episode this is, please?
So were christopher's parents never involved in rory's life?
Nope because they suck
No they didnt even acknowledge Rory as their granddaughter.
it kind of seemed Francine was dominated by Straub. When Christopher had Gigi he said his mom was happy about it, by then I think Straub had passed. He still wasn't married
Daaamn why did they cast Chris like that
what episode is this?
why do i not remember this?
Emily - Lorelai - and - Richard - ( Gilmore - Girls ) ♡
emili - gilmore - richard gilmore - love 💑 mac😁
Lorelai could have lived with Christopher... and gave the child his surname, Hayden
Lorelai didn't have to give Rory Chris's last name. And Lorelai didn't want to live with Chris.
Lorelai don't need to accept anything that's her choice.
If she felt unloved and not safe in the house whu would she stay.
I think Emily has shown that "help" from her comes with a million strings and having it constantly thrown in your face. It would've just been a way to exert more control over Lorelai's life and undermine her with Rory.
Richard 🥰
Seriously, I will never understand how Lorelai could hate her parents as much as she does. Emily resolutely defends her and refuses to even consider the idea of shipping her off like some kind of shameful secret. And yeah, Richard is a bit heavy handed in his whole "they'll get married" declaration. But he is clearly not doing it because "it's socially proper," but because in his mind that is how you build a home and support network for his coming grandchild and provide the best life for his daughter. They weren't perfect, but they certainly don't deserve any of the bullshit Lorelai heaps upon them...
If you don't see how Emily treats Lorelai in the show then you will never understand Lorelai at all.
And Lorelai don't deserve the bull shit they did to her.
It's not Loreili fault for being pregnant, why does Mr Hyaden want her to get a abortion, I'm glad she ran off.
Eso cuando pasa, alguien que me explique😢
good video
Which season is this?
3
Obviously Lorelai's parents were "monsters". I'll always be team Emily and Richard
I could never be team Emily and Richard. They are to controlling and they never once cared or listened to Lorelai. It's all about there pride and social status.
Is this a flash back ?
Thanks
Why was adoption never on the table?
So, why exactly she didn't get the abortion if it was such a big deal? And why couldn't Christopher go to college, it's not like he was ever an active part of Rory's life?
Cause Lorelai is not heartless and wouldn't do that. Why should she?.
@@lunafanel Dont read spanish
@@lauriecarson6483 In fact, despite not speaking openly, the series several times gave indications that the Gilmore family was Catholic and followed their customs and traditions, they would never let Lorelai have an abortion even if she wanted to.
@@lunafanel but that wasn't Korekai choice to have done. She loves Rory slot to givevher up.
@@lauriecarson6483 she wanted to keep her
she had a baby and all she was thinking about is sleeping on a bench in paris😭
this was before she knew she was pregnant. relax
Did lorelai want to abort Rory?
No she didnt. Rory saved her
@@lauriecarson6483 it’s just weird how she says but Chris what about paris
@@ajanayo7723 that's probably before Lorelai found out she was pregnant.
@Katie Logue no she didn't.
Nauseating how American TV series treat abortion like the devil. As if it's not the best and only solution to this conundrum.
The type of people who'd shame single moms also want to restrict reproductive rights.
Lf, where are you from? And there wouldn’t a show if she’d gotten an abortion. Babies = storylines, so don’t take tv shows at face value. I don’t think the majority of Americans are against abortions, just mostly some states.
the parents arent really portrayed as the right ones though, if you watched the show
ah, there's a plot option. Just kill off Rory.
Yes, it's so hypocritical especially when Christopher's father suggests it because it gets his son off the hook. But pro choice believe women are full human sovereign beings. Pro life is only pro unborn life. Once you get here, forget it.
"Why doesn't she get rid of it?" "What?" "It's an option." "It certainly is not an option... because I say so."
Legit awesome pro-life representation.
Emily already defending her granddaughter
I think Emily and Lorelai already had a discussion prior to this moment, so she possibly said “Because I said so” as I way to avoid the fact that Lorelai decided to keep Rory.
Strobe is ... impossible. "Shut up Francine!" ...
