With Ryan's ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE plan I was like one taken by the hand and led step by step from start to finish. Thank you very much Ryan!
Who would have thought that just hearing "Hey guys! Scott Brown here!" would turn out to be my favourite part of your videos. Finish my coffee and start my day now. Cheers
So I finally figured out what makes me appreciate this channel. The jazzy soundtrack is awesome. Oh, and Scott's accent makes him sound smart to this uncouth American.
This couldn't have come at a better time! Currently renovating grandparents house, 50/50 DIY and professionals So many bits of floorboard needing replaced, thank you
There is no other home building or carpentry channel that even compares to ol’ Scotty. Cheers sir, stay safe, keep creating, and thank you for sharing your “ins and outs” of the trade.
Wow! What a superb job! That property is going to look amazing. It will be a real home. Your attention to detail and craftsmanship is unequalled! The floor sanding equally brilliant. Inspiring and standard-setting. Thank you Scott & Team. Stay Safe.
He's inspiring me to get out of Deloitte (along with 3 other UA-cam builder channels, 2x US 1x UK) to get into property renovation here in the UK! Scott is great.
Only problem with that repair is you need to have access to the underside. In the UK you would just fix bearers direct to the side of the joists. We would also try to keep the tongues intact and just remove the bottom of the groove on the final board so it can still utilise the tongue but removing the bottom of the groove allows the final board to drop into position.
Yeah he’s going a bit overboard doing the ply.. as a floor sander and carpenter that’s done 100s of these repairs in Aus. I just cut the bottom of the groove and PVA the cut groove. The hard part is sourcing the exact same looking salvaged boards. Also looks better if you span over at least 2 joists..
Amazing that in New Zealand.... your finished floor goes directly to the floor joists. Here in the states, we will have 1 some times 2 layers of 3/4” plywood glued & screwed down as subfloor, then a layer of felt paper then then the finished hardwood......that’s exactly what’s in my house.
Watching your videos has encouraged me to continue I’ve just had about enough with management. I’m 2 years into my apprenticeship with BCITO with 10 + years of experience. Keep up the good work you don’t know how much it helps people like myself. 👍
G,day Scott Brown Carpentry team from Sydney, Australia. * nice solution to patch the floor with construction adhesive. * the floor sanding: perfect. * why don't you set your own plasterboard? Easy, tape, base coat, topcoat, hawk and trowel. ⛹️♂️
Hey Scott, Would be cool if you could supply approx pricing for the jobs as you do them ( Bathrooms, kitchens, addition to footprint etc ) to give us home owners some idea possible costs for jobs. ( doesn't have to be accurate ) I know this may be a big ask due to extra requirements client changing their minds etc. Keep charging on. Love to see how it's done here in NZ. Big fan. Dave.
I am curious about pricing for your work. Not so much about the hard numbers but do you make fixed prices for example? It looks like every other day something special happens which drives up your costs?!
When I was a joiner, all you had was a hammer a few saws and chisels and brute force, that is why my body is wrecked now.. The only power tool we had was a Hilti drill. It was hard demanding work. We used to see the old timers retire and they would be dead within a couple of years. Changed days indeed.
Yeah. Was an undersea earthquake. Tsunami alert but it's going to be minor. I'm in Wellington and it woke me up. All good and then there's a Scott Brown video do it's all good..
As I type since that quake two big quakes in Kermadec Islands ( north but part of NZ) the latest 8.1 has meant the evacuation of coastal areas mainly North of Auckland and part of the East Coats due to tsunami dangers
Great technique. Just wondering how best to do it if you don’t have access underneath? I’ve had to saw through the tongue and groove on some boards for access and now they squeak like f***
Are those Robertson screws you are using? Now I'm interested to know what type the standard construction screws are in NZ. In Canada it's definitely Robertson/square head...
I’m an electrician in California, and I sinfully love Scott’s videos.
Hey Scott, that is a quite a crew of sub's you have working for you. You must be a great boss to work for!
That floor looks amazing sanded! Reminds me of old growth fir flooring you find in 1920's and older homes here in the states.
That floor sander is a beast. Having the floors done really really makes a difference in the look. Great job in this long labor of love, & digging✌🏻

Good craftsmanship mate. Tried to find a similar Aussie channel but came across yours a while ago and I enjoy it
This couldn't have come at a better time! Currently renovating grandparents house, 50/50 DIY and professionals
So many bits of floorboard needing replaced, thank you
Nothing quite like watching master craftsmen working their craft and learning something along the way.
Ha, he's very good, and great attention to detail, but he's not a master yet..
There is no other home building or carpentry channel that even compares to ol’ Scotty. Cheers sir, stay safe, keep creating, and thank you for sharing your “ins and outs” of the trade.
Your guys are something else , keep up the good work 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
Scott, I hope you are well together with your family and work team, strength for your country in this new manifestation of nature.
Every time , a big pleasure to watch your videos. My stress goes away in seconds. Keep up the good work. Cheers!!
The house is coming together. So much more interesting that building a brand new house i reckon if I was on the tools . Nice work

Hello from the US... new to construction but I’ve been following your channel for a while! Love it, good work
Your channel is great mate. Has almost made me pack in teaching and become an apprentice!
He's inspiring me to get out of Deloitte (along with 3 other UA-cam builder channels, 2x US 1x UK) to get into property renovation here in the UK! Scott is great.
@@Henry-350 I’d do the same if the pay for carpenters in Australia wasn’t 1/3 of what I’m currently on. I need to win the lottery first 😆
@@daniel.s8126 Don't follow money, follow your passions and the money will follow you, 👍😁🔨🇮🇪
Always look forward to another EXCITING Scott Brown video!! Hope you show the finished project.
Loved following this house renovation, you're all doing an amazing job

yep same in AUS.

@@secdogga Always follow the principal of boards spanning three joists as a min.

Same here in Australia. Old houses didn’t even have any type of insulation, you’d see daylight between the non tongue and groove boards.
2 layers of 3/4 subfloor? I haven’t seen that here in North Carolina. Just one layer is standard here.
Place is coming up a treat guys. Awesome seeing it all come together.
These videos are the best. I learn so much from a budding woodworker. Learning so much!
Great channel! Love the music! Really great to see how experience, craft and passion make everything flow so smoothly! Well done
Access from underneath. Makes life - and patching - so much easier. Thanks for the video!
You learn something new every day... good on you guys.
You're a Class Act man.
And you use a good sound track for your videos.
Always wish this was like hours or days long my favourite UA-camr in the world 🤗
Great to see Eric got some camera time, love site dogs.
👍

Ooosh Paerau hearty fulla getn puhoro 😜😤☝
Great craftsmanship.

That flooring looks so much better sanded. wow.
Beautiful sanding job! Nice trick for fixing floor boards - very clever.

What a simple idea for the replacement floor boards!👍😎very cool 😎
Always enjoy the views of Auckland-great vid. Cheers!!
FINALLY! I've been watching every other video till this weeks came out!
I’ve made it a goal this year to watch every video.
@Matthew Frew I’m amazed that he got one out this week with it being crunch time on this job.
Loving this Friday new video drop makes it easier to start a friday
Fav UA-cam channel 👍

What’s going on with the company ur working for?
Happy to hear that man! All the best for your apprenticeship
That floor sander eats through that finish like it's nothing! Such an improvement! Really like the plaster detail on the ceiling too!
Satisfying to watch the floor sander at work
What is the floor covering that you use to protect the t & g flooring until sanding? Great videos.
Where do you buy that matai processed like that from?
Great video as always. Stay safe there 👍✔️
Ah. @7:13, the noise of the pup's nails on the hard floor.. miss that sound ever since our boy left us.
Another great watch! Thx bro.
Another great and also informative video
Sweet. Another exciting episode. 👍
Hilarious START BRO.....! Scotty the basement lurking uber-Carpenter..!

Fellow Sydney-based SBC fan checking in.
When are we going to get a paerau van fit out?
You're looking ready for a holiday Scott mate!
Great demonstration. I see you wearing protective equipment so often, but no masks when sanding up floor finish?
Wicked great stuff! Project is really coming along well!
That’s a smart way of doing the floor. We usually rip the back side on the groove off and still tongue and groove the boards with glue
Who is you floor sander?! Work looked neat and tidy... I need to get mine sanded down
Love the channel mate
Was just getting into that and it finished! 🥺
I have to make a repair similar to that in my bathroom, that is a much better way of doing it. Thanks for sharing :)
Awesome, need to do the same to my Rimu flooring now I can DIY yuss 💪🏼
love the channel! Keep up the great work Scott!
like always... a real pleasure
What is the best brand ..
Looking for a Circular mitre saw 🤔
Could have just used a stop bead for the bottom of the board on that bulkhead, then tied the ply into the back of the bead! love the vids.
When scott tells you “good job”!, frame it!

Dave.
is Paerau starting a puhoro?
Bro looks like it. Mean ay?
Bracing lines for New Zealand homes are 6 meters (Max) in both directions.
Love your Jobs. !
Smoko shirt delivered yesterday.
Gorgeous floors without staining. Just clear coat those babies
I am curious about pricing for your work. Not so much about the hard numbers but do you make fixed prices for example? It looks like every other day something special happens which drives up your costs?!
Hi always great content ! What do you call the Blue Floor Protection you use?
When I was a joiner, all you had was a hammer a few saws and chisels and brute force, that is why my body is wrecked now..
The only power tool we had was a Hilti drill.
It was hard demanding work. We used to see the old timers retire and they would be dead within a couple of years.
Changed days indeed.
Nice Deck
Have you ever had any problems with your hikoki framing nailer. My one and my co workers hitachi one both miss fire when nailing at a level position
Like your videos Scott. Always curious as to why floor sanders work across the board on an angle? Not down the length, does it not make a difference?
Sanding on the diagonals first helps even out irregularities. You finish up sanding with the grain.
Hey could you do a video on what type or boots you wear?
Heard there was an earthquake in New Zealand hope you are safe!!!
Yeah. Was an undersea earthquake. Tsunami alert but it's going to be minor. I'm in Wellington and it woke me up. All good and then there's a Scott Brown video do it's all good..
7.4 Richter, but fortunately 100km out to sea, so was not too bad here. Felt like long gentle shaking.
That's why NZ homes need ''Trussed'' timber walls.
As I type since that quake two big quakes in Kermadec Islands ( north but part of NZ) the latest 8.1 has meant the evacuation of coastal areas mainly North of Auckland and part of the East Coats due to tsunami dangers
floor looks mint
Is that a scott brown boat with the teal stripe? 00:18
What are those boots you and pareau are wearing? Mine are falling apart and I trust your judgement
What did you do before a nail gun ??
@scottbrowncarpentry Whats the blue floor protection you use?
that is a flipping cool flooring trick
Good video y’all just wished it was longer
Great technique.
Just wondering how best to do it if you don’t have access underneath? I’ve had to saw through the tongue and groove on some boards for access and now they squeak like f***
was hoping to get a nice shot of the patch blended in after sanding
Pause at 7:23
holy shii that floor sanding is hella sattysfing
Are those Robertson screws you are using? Now I'm interested to know what type the standard construction screws are in NZ. In Canada it's definitely Robertson/square head...
We have a fair range but the majority use 'square drive' ( Robertson) . Is that a Posidrive or Philips screw?
Hello from mexico
Spent so long catching up on your videos that it feels like an eternity between your videos now haha
