      I know I’m reviving a dead thread, but common issues for replacing a CV axle include normal wear and tear for an old vehicle, the environment you live in, whether or not you drive on dirt field or bumpy roads, or even the climate that you live in. These can all affect how and when the axle fails.

    • @vincentrolfe1384
      @vincentrolfe1384 3 роки тому +2

      @@TheCrystalGlow Our 03 Civic had the older passenger side axle fail due to that poor designed rubber casing with thin metal sleeve that failed by splitting the metal and cracks at the rubber casing that joins the 2 piece axle on that side. The CV's did not fail or suffer damage; it was the old design that has been superseded by a one piece axle. 200K miles

    This video was excellent and the 1A part fit perfectly. It was difficult to push the new axle into the trans but I gave it a hard push, just like he did, and it went in. Lining up the axle into the wheel bearing was a challenge but I used a variety of bars to get it in place. This is a good time to inspect brakes and wheel bearings, BTW. Thx for the torque specs.

Thank you

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  8 років тому

      +Brian Davis Not sure about that one in particular. But ball joints tools are usually universal, and thus helpful for a large number of vehicles. That said, there's often a number of ways to get a ball joint loose (heat, hammer, press, etc.). We use the tool because we believe it's the easiest, and the least likely to harm the components as we remove/install them. For anyone else who might be doing this job, we carry the parts shown in the video on our website. Order from us and we'll cover the shipping. Some old high miles axles have too much wear and can do that. You may have a shorter version of the same design axle that allows the nut to come off and or the inside CV to compress too much and this could cause the axle to pop out of place. Torque on the axle nut has to be to spec or you have potential for diaster.

    I have a lx 2003 that makes a loud clunking noise when shifting into drive from park. Is this axle the cause of this?

      +ed B You may want to inspect the axles to see if there is play in them. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com

      you probably have something going on in the transmission. Axles are simply installed when in good condition or new and that is it.

    Good video, but you can get the job done faster without taking off everything like brakes and moving the lines. I got the job done before the video was done. And I did not use a impact gun.

      its either the axles showing signs of failure or the hub bearing that keeps the axle at the wheel in alignment in the hub yoke

      Sometimes that snap ring on the splined axle is a little tight even if having been taken apart before. Line up the spline at the trans-make sure you are in position and then hold the inside CV in both hands and give it a hard straight in hit and that will hammer it in there.

    Do I need to grease the part that goes in the transmission??

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  6 років тому +1

      +Gabriel Otero You should be able to slide it right into place. If it fights you, you can apply a little bearing grease to the end of the axle shaft so that it slides into place easier. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com

    My car is having this weird noise on the passenger side, when I turn sometimes it makes that breaking or cracking noise and when I come upon railroad tracks or steep roads it also makes this loud thump noise once again “ONLY PASSENGER SIDE MAKING THE NOISE” does it have to do with the axle? Or is it another problem? Plus my engine is making noises too. I just don’t know what it is. #HELPPLEASE

      The older Honda Civics had a two pieces axle on that side with a rubber-metal lined casing that failed. New axles have no two pieces design.

    My wheel sticks out a bit and I don't know why. It's the front left wheel. The car runs but makes a bit of a clanking noise when i take off and when I stop. especially at traffic lights. Is that because I whoever changed the joint didn't put it all the way in? Or what could it be? Tire nor the frame doesn't have any signs of having sustained a hit or anything of that nature. Help.

      Check the clearances and get at the larger outside axle nut to see if you failed to torque down all the way home.

      There are splines on the axle end that goes into the trans. There is a metal snap ring that creates friction as the splines are engaged. So get the car high off the ground and take a 2 foot long flat end pry bar and muscle the stub shaft out of there.

    Why do you dent the hub nut

    • @vincentrolfe1384
      @vincentrolfe1384 3 роки тому

      helps to keep the nut on there due to vibration that can loosen it. Mercedes has a yoke nut with Allen screw. You have the dent in the collar of the nut.
