10:20 in case you were wondering if anybody is still watching this video, I change my oil with you today. Good work on this video and I appreciate your help Mr. Darrell.
Ha ha! Glad I could help ya my friend!!
Not probably but definitely the best harley fluid change instruction on you tube. 👍👍
Thanks Joe!
Excellent video. 👍👍 My dealer gets almost $300 for a 3 fluid change - insane. Do it yourself riders, and save money! Only thing I would add is to make sure the old filter gasket comes off with the filter and clean that flange. Don't want to double up gaskets by mistake. Now on to the brake and clutch fluid!
Thanks Hogdriver88! So right about the gasket. Brake and clutch fluid change coming. Did my brothers Road Glide this weekend, will do a video on mine. Appreciate ya!
Best oil change video I’ve seen. Outstanding content on oils, great camera angles, and fine details. Takes all the guess work out of the mix and boosts confidence significantly. Ride safe, and enjoy it to the max!
Thank you very much John!
@@TollesonLife I wonder if the recommendation in the Owner’s Manual about only pouring in 4 quarts of oil during the initial fill is based on the assumption that no oil is poured into the filter and that, after the engine is started and run for a few minutes after the oil change, that the tech will know to subsequently check the oil with the dip stick and add enough to bring the oil level up to the desired level.
Best oil changing video I've seen in forever. I hope you and your wife are safe. Greetings from Romania!
Thank you very much! We are good here and hope you are too in Romania!
Darryl, this is the best video on changing oil I've seen. You and the better half stay safe and healthy.
Thank you Ed! Hope all is well with you!
Just a shout out!! I watch all your content and enjoy it all. And wanted to say thank you and I appreciate your efforts!!
I appreciate that Mark!
Excellent complete video for servicing a M8 HD.
Thanks for a very well done video, I just bought a 2020 Road Glide Limited and after 4 days of riding I have 720 miles on it and should be doing my first 1000 mile service in a few more days. Thanks again for a great video.
Sure thing Dave, congrats on the 2020 Road Glide!
Great video dude, thank you so much! I look at quite a few DIY oil change videos for my '18 Ultra and yours was the best, hands down.. You walked me through it like you were there with me and helped save me 3-400 bucks.. Thanks Man!
Glad it helped!
I have done this service many times and you always learn something different. I will look into that oil filter funnel. Never heard of that trans oil before, I use formula plus in both trans and primary and synthetic 3 in the engine. Thanks again and stay safe and hopefully you will be able to ride soon
Thank you Peter! Hope all is well with you!
Best video of 3 hole m8 change!
Question.
Can I just use Harley Davidson gear oil 80w-140 in my primary and my transmission?
Your videos are very detailed, not to mention the cleanest garage I have ever seen. I also have the funnel set. My question is why do the oil filter funnels always include a large nail? I can’t figure that one out? Thanks.
Thanks Tom B! Not sure about that nail thing my friend. Appreciate you watching!
Thanks Darryl, I always use this as a reference, see y’all at Sturgis 2021
Awesome Ted👍
Once again Tolleson Life channel delivers. Great content, well documented and the videography is alway spot on! Oh and we did catch a glimpse of David helping out. Trust all is well. Stay safe.
Thank you Terry! Lol, David was a great help.....All is well here and hope it is with you!
@@TollesonLife Darryl, what MC lift are you using? Assume it does all you need.
Great video. Very clear and easy to see where everything is. I typically change my fluids myself, however, I have a freebie from the dealer from when I purchased my 2017 Ultra Limited so they will be doing that one then I will do the rest. I will add this video to my other Harley videos in my library.
Thank you Keith! Great to have the freebie from the dealer! Appreciate you watching!
Great video man 👊🏼
Thanks Bertrand850!
FYI, When it calls for less then a full quart, pour off what you want left over first. Then you don’t have to worry about putting in to much. Put the left over back in the bottle.
Great video .. it has given me the confidence to change my fluids myself on my 2017 RGU. Thank you.
Glad I could help Raman!
Awsome channel...awsome content...get out a d ride...it's "essential excersice " and ride to work....the sunshine runs the virus away! God bless all...stay strong and have faith.
Thank you Aaron! So true about riding! Been doing some locally and really enjoyed the lack of traffic!
Nice simple and informative!
Hi from the UK. This video is very helpful and will save me a few quid over dealer prices on my 14 ultra limited, thank you
Glad to help Dave! All the best to ya in the UK!
Clutch inspection cover? Oh you mean the derby cover. Got it. 🤣😂🙃
Thanks for sharing, sound like a good idea, during isolation we should catch up with the maintenance of our bikes... heading to the garage, cheers, Dave
Absolutely!
Great video I am a firm believer in doing my own oil changes and by doing them you know your bike better than anyone and that's just a good feeling I might be wrong but I am a believer in the Harley oil it worked great for me my last bike had 45k didn't use any or leak any ever. And with all the time people have on their hands these days it might be good for the soul? Stay safe love the content you produce
Thanks 👍 I agree, good for the soul and you know you stuff is right!! Appreciate ya watching Mark! Stay safe!
Great video and a really good tutorial. Ride safe sir!
Scott
Thanks, you too!
Thank you excellent training video
One thing all viewers MUST be aware of is the transmission oil transfer issue on the M8 ! I have a 2019 FLTRX 107 and in my first 1000 miles nearly all of my trans oil migrated to the primary. I performed the Harley vent tube modification which is now present on all 2020 M8 models which helps and or stops the transfer problem. You might not want to use gear oil in your trans until you know for sure your bike isn’t transferring trans oil to your primary or clutch contamination will occur. I’m speaking from experience.
Good call Rich! I never had that issue thankfully but Im sure many have. Appreciate you sharing that with us as a reminder to viewers to be watchful for the issue. All the best!
Tolleson Life Great channel Darrel. I’ve watched a lot of your videos. You make me jealous at times lol. But yes, I’ve been sharing my experience with my bikes issues and it does seem to be common. I’m sure after installing that “fatter” clutch pushrod and venting the primary like all the new bikes come with from the factory I’ve solved that transfer problem. The “fat” pushrod mod is to help slow the migration of oil thru the input shaft as it’s only design was to allow primary venting to the trans. By adding a vent to the primary like the one in the trans I closed up the original vent way. I’m almost certain the problem is gone forever. I wish Harley would warn all their customers of this issue so some don’t run their trans dry and damage it. It’s such a simple and cheap fix I don’t know why Harley don’t just recall all the 2017’s thru 2019’s. We all know they are in dire straights financially right now but at least let it be known to its customers. If your at a dealer go ahead and check the 2020 models. The vent tube is a small rubber elbow located just behind the derby cover and inner primary at about the 1 o’clock position above the drive belt. Harley knows of the problem that’s why it’s on all the 2020 models. Be safe D.T.
Thanks for the information! I believe I'll start changing my own fluids......
Very good Anthony! I enjoy doing my own stuff and saving a few $$$ . All the best man!
Great video, thanks. Cheers from Winnipeg!
👍Hello in Winnipeg🙌
Excellent tutorial. All your videos are top notch! 💯👍
Thank you BD Rider!
What kind of thread sealant did you use?
I would like to see how to add oil to the primary while on the kick stand. A bike lift I see keeps it level, but I am in my garage without one of those bike lifts.
Reggie, before the lift or jack, Ive always had someone to help hold it upright, I know some guys who have propped the bike against a wall.
Great content brother, as usual you have great info for anyone who rides.
I appreciate that Frosty!
@@TollesonLife Got my pitbull lift, will be doing my own service from now on. This helps a lot. I have the same bike. Your video leaves nothing to question, you covered it all man. Thanks.
What kind of wheel chock you using on your lift? I have a Harbor Freight lift that I had my 2007 Street Glide on, but wasn’t sure if I wanted to put my 2019 Road Glide Ultra on. Looks like you have no worries and was wondering what your set up was. Love your videos, very well done!
Thanks man! It’s called the Wheel Dock, I also use it for the Toy Hauler. Works great.
WITH THIS VIDEO I THINK I WILL CHANGE MY FLUIDS...GREAT VIDEO...
Very good Doc! Glad it helped!
good video i also do my own work pick up my 2021 street glide thursday
Nice 👍
Just subscribed to your channel. Like your style!! Very detail and great video angles. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hey T Baggin! Welcome to the channel my friend. Appreciate you watching!
Great job!! Thank you for sharing much appreciated!!
My pleasure Eric!
Can you do a video on the radiator. Checking and changing the fluid
Hey Brad, I may look at doing that. Haven't changed mine yet.
Awesome garage!
Thank you Dana!
i moved the bigger plug lift side from the engine oil plug. and drain all the oil out. what should i do?
great video keep up the good work and ride safe
Thank you Joseph!
Very easy to do, I just never understood why so many different fluids for each application. Some bikes use the same oil for everything Trans, primary, and engine. I never used syn oils because of the cost, by the time that engine gets too hot its too late anyway.
Yes indeed, easy peasy! I have used all types of oil and will probably use some Amsoil next change. All the best!
Great Video, Thanks for sharing , I still have to break out my manuel to make sure I'm taking the correct drain plugs out, lol, OLD AGE ???? lol...
Looks as if I saw some road scrapes on the Driver floor board, LOL, would that be from the DRAGON?...lol...I rode just the other day over to the DEVILS TRIANGLE, Great little ride, for my first of the year ..
Hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy... My Road Glide is ready for some road trips too.. All fluids are changed,I too changed mine, ...Gonna have to get one of those oil filter funnels.. LESS MESS,,,,......Again Thanks for your videos....
Allan
Glad you enjoy them Msrverpilot! I have ridded the Dragon a few times so yes sir!! Be safe out there my friend.
Have you experienced any of the issues related to the M8 sumping or using too much oil when you drive long distances. I like all your videos.
Hey David, no not at all, no issues thankfully. Have you? We appreciate you watching man.
Tolleson Life I just got back into riding, purchased a used 2017 RGS, I have not taken it out on a long drive yet. I will monitor it for sumping. They want 300 to install the vent kit if it does not show sumping. I hope I have one that’s not going to give me any problems, knocking on wood. Watching your riding and camping videos fired me backup to ride. I’m surprised how many of my friends still have bikes.
great video , I have the filter drain funnel from Harley . What a POS . Thanks for the link , your drain funnel works alot better . Ride Safe
Glad it helped David!
Great Video, I usually change my car and truck oil all the time. Not sure why I take my bike to HD for fluid changes. I decided to get a lift and do it myself, thanks for the video, I will cancel my appointment at HD and keep that $300.00.
Awesome Jay08! I always do everything I’m able that’s within my ability, if an issue excess that, I take it to a dealer. So far so good!🙌🙌 Good luck!
@@TollesonLife I just changed my oil today. I asked the dealer what type of oil they used when I last had it serviced, they told me Syn3 in all three holes. So I purchased the oil and gaskets to change. I am very mechanically inclined I have always changed the oil on my cars and other motorcycles. This was my first time on my Harley, I drained the fluids the engine look normal, primary looked a bit grey with some shavings on the magnet. The transmission look like a strawberry shake, did not look like oil at all. The bike ran fine prior to the change so I preceded with adding the proper levels of Syn3 to all 3 holes. I started the bike and was startled by engine knock, I thought I would go away after a few seconds but it did not. I am to nervous to start it again. I have no idea what could have happened, maybe my oil pump failed I have no idea. I will call the dealership to see it they might have some ideas. I will keep my fingers crossed that its nothing major.
@@fbj59 Wow, yeah that sounds unrelated to the oil change you did, you said you added the proper amount of fluid in all three holes so that must be something different. Let me know what you what happens.
@@TollesonLife Sorry for the delayed response I am new to UA-cam. Harley picked up my bike, the HD tech told me my rocker arm bolts backed out about an inch damaging the push rods. He said he has never seen that happen before, he also said the during the engine assembly the builder must have gotten a false torque reading. He suggested I call corporate since it's a manufacturing problem. My extended warranty expired in May, corporate told me my 2018 Harley with 9K is old and many things could have caused the bolts to back out and they will do nothing.
@@fbj59 unbelievable! Sorry to hear the news about the bike and that HD will do nothing.😡
Great video
Thanks Tom!
would you like to travel to Michigan later on in the year with your RV?
I will be traveling later this year but more out West than North L Stewart.
What motorcycle hoist/lift do you use? I have a 2019 HD SGS and I want to start servicing my bike.
Hello R. Roosa! I have a Harbor Freight Lift right now. Paid $350 for it. Very pleased with it.
Great video! How do you like the formula + on the primary?
Thanks Moha! Seems to work fine, no issues when Ive used it.
@@TollesonLife thank you very much. I wish I knew what weight is the F+. My cocktail is mobil 1/F+/ gear oil.
Great video thank you 🙏 for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Another great video! 👍
Appreciate ya Ken!
Thank you ✌🏾
Sure thing Rickey!
Great job on the video
Thanks Rat Fink!
Good stuff. Thanks 👍
Thanks Tom!
Thank you
You're welcome
Another excellent video, Can I borrow your garage? 🤙🏼😂
Thanks writer 312! Sure thing....Stay safe out there.
Love that shirt
Thanks Blayne! I grabbed it at a HD dealership some time ago.
From where is that accent? Louisiana?
No Jorge, Im from Georgia.
Great video 🤘🏻👊🏻🇺🇸
Thanks 👍
Is Joel Olsteen your brother ? Lol
Lol! No, he just sounds a little like me..LOL!!
Syn 3 , full synthetic ? Nope try again sir. Decent video regardless
Big D, you are correct, its just what HD claims and is written on the side of the bottle. That said, its my understanding that its only about 60% Synthetic and 40% petroleum which really makes it more of a synthetic blend. Nor does HD put any type of service class rating like API/JASO on that particular oil bottle. Appreciate you watching my friend!
SYNTHETIC......"NOT" FULL SYNTHETIC.....
colin mikesell I addressed this in another comment.
