    Also I guess the barrel rotation will bring a lot of value. Many Wacom people seems to not really feel the art pen provided value but for me it was maybe not a deal breaker but it was really nice to be able to twist the pen just like normal pen / marker in my palm. Also it was not just to roll it in my hand but when you did bigger strokes using the arm a bit and not just the wrist just by turning the hand one of course also got use of the barrel roll.
    Maybe not so much for pure inking but for sketching and coloring I feel barrel roll really gave more flexibility. Things that before either needs to be done by switching brushes (which works with shortcuts on desktop but not so much on a tablet) or by moving / rotating the arm / hand position a lot can now be done with just twisting the hand or rolling the pen (or a combo of both) directly.

    Andrew, I did have a question for you. I picked up my M4 iPad Pro last night. One thing I noticed with ProCreate and the Pencil Pro is that when I start drawing, there's a delay before it starts to appear on screen what I just drew, but then as long as I keep the pen on the screen it's real time. It doesn't matter which pen I select, either. Have you noticed anything like this or do I have a possible issue? I haven't noticed this with the Notes or Freeform apps (as soon as I start drawing I see it). I'm gonna guess this is because ProCreate needs an app update to better support the new hardware?

    • @Comicbooker

      Yup! You’re right about the update. Procreate released a compatibility patch yesterday (so try updating to that if you haven’t yet,) but they mentioned that “full support for Apple Pencil Pro” is still “coming soon.” Fingers crossed that’s sooner than later! 😅

I know that the nano texture studio displays get smudges that can’t get removed and also are particular about what kind of microfiber cloth is used. So as an artist I don’t want to get the nano texture and regret it later. I might wait a month or so to make a final decision based off of longer term reviews 😭

    Those are some beautiful artwork! Did you get the standard screen or the one with nano-texture screen to reduce glare? Just curious since I heard that being outside a lot helps with reducing glare. But my concern is that the nano-texture also reduces the brightness and sharpness of the double OLED screen. I personally do animation and 3D works and I'd love to see my artwork pop with the double OLED. I may put on a screen protector instead.

    Great review, very helpful. One thing that is making my choice more difficult is the extra 8 ram between the 512 fb and the 1tb model. I want to buy an I pad that will last for a while, is it better to go for the 16 ram in the 1tb or is it really overkill? I’m finding it difficult to figure this out.

    • @Comicbooker
      @Comicbooker  Місяць тому +1

      If your main purpose is making art, the RAM will benefit you immensely. Layer limits and canvas dimensions in programs like Procreate are tied to RAM, so by doubling that, you’re practically doubling the space you have to work on. For me, it’s worth the bump in cost.

      @Comicbooker  Місяць тому

      Nanotexture is more slippery, but there is some friction. So far (2 weeks in) no durability issues. The drawing experience feels different -- paperlike has more friction, but I like the smooth feel of the nanotexture. About the squeeze. How light is it so to speak? If I hold the pen normal and just press down hard with one finger, will that be enough to register as a squeeze? And if so, how hard do one need to push?
    Basically my question is: will de squeeze be able to work as a “click button” finger motion for use who felt the tap was activated to easily?
    And yes a big question if you can help me with it. This squeeze does it work if you are wearing a glove. Or if there is a grip on it = is it more a force haptic or does the pen need to get in contact with your fingers. (In the same way touch works with the pen / fingers to the screen)?
    If it works with above then I guess it will be possible to make custom grip that also have kind of a button or and indent to rest the finger for so it will be more of a feeling to push a really physical button. Also now with barrel rotation it would be good to have some marking / or bump / indent on a grip to indicate the roll “start” so say for a flat brush or marker it’s easy to know if the thin or think side is what I am drawing with. I mean mean without looking at the cursor indicator on screen. (Maybe some prefer to have that turned off)

      Agree with this. I held off upgrading with the last iPad Pro and had planned to get the 11 inch this time round as the 12.9 is just not a portable size for me (I commute into work on a bike). I have been watching so many reviews in the hope someone would give an honest review and not just a paid/promotion saying all the specs (which I can get from the Apple video), which is annoying after the third or forth video you watch. So thanks for giving your perspective! It’s such a hard decision as the price point is ridiculous, but I know I just won’t keep lugging a 12.9 inch around with me.

    • @chris
      @chris Місяць тому

      @@adrianmunro330 It's so huge! I had the first big iPad Pro and eventually downgraded. With this new M4 pro, I went into the Apple Store and compared -- it's SO bloody massive. It's fine if that's your job (like Andrew here) or if you don't have another computer but for me it's more a secondary device and I want it to be portable around the house and when traveling. I don't want a chonker. I'm finding the 11" still to be the perfect size.
      And you're right... all the other UA-cam reviews are exactly the same. They same the same things, show the same b-roll from the Apple event, etc. You just need to watch one of those and then find gems like this one to tell you want you really want to know!
