great idea. Even though Ive felt pretty comfortable with the chair without anchoring it to the boat, the more I think about it, the more I know I should. Thanks for stoppin by!
Just came across this video searching for a good crate set-up for my Tamarack and saw the stadium seat was not secured. I've been trying to find some sort of stadium seat mounting that did not require me to drill into my yak. Your idea is perfect. As soon as I am done typing this I'm heading over to Walmart for a stadium seat & some zip-ties (as well as some new lures for Redfish & Snook)! I know this comment/reply to the video is over 2 years old, but if you happen to see it.. THANK YOU!!!..... I hope your bucket is filled with keepers this weekend!
I also have a tamarack. I mounted a small fish finder on top of my front hatch. I also removed the front bungees to prevent accidentally catching my hook.
You should add an anchor trolly, and a zigzag cleat. I did it to mine, and it works great. I use a 5 pound grapnel anchor. I have 50 feet of 1/4 inch rope for anchoring in deep water. I bought a rope rachet/ hanger with a carabiner that I attach to the forward eyelet to control the amount of rope that I let out.The anchor trolly has made recovering the anchor a breeze, and it allows me to position the anchor on either end of the boat. The grapnel anchor really does a great job of holding my Tamarack in place on both still and moving water. I live in Modesto,so I hit the nearby Tuolumne River on a regular basis for largemouth bass . The Tamarack handles class one and class two rapids easily. I would also recommend adding a Garmin Striker 4 fisfinder. You can install the transducer inside the hull using some Duct Seal compound to avoid having to make a mount for your boat. It's a must have when fishing in water where you can't see the bottom! And one last suggestion : If you haven't already done it,you should consider upgrading to an 8 foot (96 inches) paddle. It gives you more power, and makes paddling easier. I bought a Sea Sense Extreme for $31.00 on Walmart. Com. Much better than the 7 foot paddle supplied by Lifetime.
@@NORCALRODREEL If you do it, use only enough Duct Seal to cover the bottom and the sides of the transducer. Make sure that there are no air pockets. I placed mine in the skeg. It's the flattest part if the boat, and it also sits deeper in the water. You will loose the water temp, but that's not as important as being able to watch the bottom depth. As far as seeing fish, it doesn't cause a loss of signal, so, it there are fish under your hull, it will detet them. One of the nice things about the Garmin Striker 4 is that it has a built in GPS and it will even tell you how fast you're gong, which is helpful for trolling.
Received my kayak about a month ago and found a cheap round food container that is velcroed underneath the front hatch. My biggest investment was my PFD, I chose a fishing style with plenty of pockets for storage for my knife, pliers, phone in a waterproof case, scale, etc. Instead of mounting the tray on the hatch cover I am thinking of mounting some small tackle boxes velcroed one on top of the other, then I can put go to lures, baits and terminal tackle as needed depending on the fishing conditions. I plan on using a 13x19x11 crate in back for storage and installing an anchor trolley, plus upgrading the seat.
I bought the same kayak today on fb market place for 350 canadian.definitely going to do upgrades that you did with yours.so looking forward to putting mine in the water soon.
What I do is not pull the paddles that far out of the water. You aren't racing this thing anyways so you can just paddle gently and steadily while keeping the paddles low and out to the sides. That was the first thing I figured out when I got my kayak because I kept getting wet. 😄
New friends here from Trail Trash Outdoors! Love the pouch idea! Seems everyone is on the same page with the stadium seat (17-18.5) mod and velcro tray.🤠🤙 I go camping and fishing so I do not think the crate mod is for me since my bag takes up most of that space and the from is full of waterproof cases for my camera gear. I am leaning towards getting a set of the kayak wheels tho since it doesn't seem to take up much room or weight and would make travel so much easier!
Hey Nick. I have the exact same kayak and wheels. How do you use those wheels properly or if you had issues using them? Loaded it keeps slipping on me so I always have to use straps or ropes. But even so, it still sometimes slips or move towards the back so I end up having to do a lot of lifting in order to roll the kayak. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated! Thanks for posting.
Hey there! When I first got the cart I had the same issue, I was rigging the straps wrong. I was just passing the strap directly under the kayak and car, and clipping it/sinching it down. You need to loop the strap once under the frame of the card on each side and sinch it down that way, similar to how you would sinch down the kayak if you car top it. Does that make sense? If not happy to do a video. Since I made that adjustment, I’ve had no problem with the kayak falling off or the cart moving
@@NORCALRODREEL makes total sense! Going all the way under holds the whole "car/card/cart" (LOL) body versus what I did creates a hinge or pivoting point! Thanks for your guidance Obi-Wan! 👍

Thanks! I know folks who have installed an anchor trolly on their tamarack which would be another great, basic upgrade to consider. I just didn’t want to drill any holes in my boat. Check out Yak Attack or Yak Gear for trolley kits. They require drilling into the boat to run the pulleys and there are plenty of videos online of folks showing you how to install it. Hope that helps!
Yep, I roll up two terry cloth towels on both sawhorses and create a little nook for the bow and stern to rest. Cheap, effective and easy and hasnt failed me yet
That’s a good question. You should be able to check the specs of the stadium seat from the one I ordered in the link in the description and measure out the cockpit on the sit inside to see if height and width wise it’d fit
I've the same boat..with stadium seat.. One day i forgot to strapped down, I flipped over and my seat when down 23 ft to bottom of the lake... 😭 The key with these little rockies yaks, is strap and secure everything down. Nice vid..
I've got a stadium seat in my current sit-in. Just make sure you get the right size. Use the back straps to secure it in place. It makes a world of difference.
I keep mine unattached for a few reasons 1) The anchor in the back I use for the crate and it's be hard to fit a third bungee thru the hook to attach the seat 2) your weight keeps the seat fixed in the kayak. Mine does not move at all once I'm in. Now those two things being said, if you were to flip your kayak, you might lose your seat. That's a gamble I take but to each his own. It definitely would not hurt to attach it and run a bungee from the seat to the anchor behind the seat but you dont have to if you are just worried about the seat moving around during the day if that makes sense
Hey man brand new kayaker who just bought this kayak and I was wondering is it normal for you to take alot of water on off the paddle as your paddling? (Bigtime noob question lol) I seem to be getting pretty wet but I didn't know if that's pretty normal. Also it seems like alot of water is getting inside the paddle? Was wondering if that was normal too? Its weird tho cause I disconnected the 2 halves and the water doesn't come out lol. Maybe I should silicone around the paddle and screw holes? Thanks for any advice!
Seems like something wrong with the ends of the paddle holding water maybe. Probably the reason too why you’re getting so wet. Without seeing it not sure how to diagnose it but if you look around there and notice anything off or loose, that silicone thought might not be a bad idea
@@NORCALRODREEL hey man thanks alot! You have really been a big help to me recently as I watched your incredibly helpful baitcaster video as I got my first baitcaster a month ago! I feel like the standard paddle with this kayak is too short - so the water keeps dripping off of it into the boat/onto your legs every time you raise the end. I see that there are 'drip stops' that you can add to the paddles, I may try that on mine.
@@TrybalRage Hey Dave thanks for the tips! Let me know how those paddle drip stops work for you. Yeah it's kinda annoying. I was pretty wet by the end only after about 45 min out there. Did you also have the problem of water getting inside the paddle? Its weird cause it's kinda trapped in there as disconnecting it doesn't free the water. I might try putting silicone around the seams and see if that works
Also another question if you don't mind....Is that seat you got alot more comfortable and is it sturdy without it being mounted to the boat? I went for my first outing and after 45 min my ass was hurting!!! Lol!!
The seat is a must! No need to mount it or strap it in for it to be secure. Your weight will keep it from going anywhere while you paddle and it fits the seat well great. Some people anchor the seat down, more than likely to the anchor point behind the seat. I personally don’t but I understand why. Some folks are concerned about losing the seat if they tip the boat, not a bad idea if you are still getting your bearings!
I bought a stadium seat for my Tamarack, and it changed the center of gravity in the boat. It made it feel unstable, and it didn't really help to keep my back, or backside, from getting sore. So, I just use the factory seat. I like to turn sideways, and dangle my feet over the side. Great on a hot summer day! The stadium seat interferes with that. So,I personally don't recommend using a stadium seat in a Tamarack Angler kayak.
I just want to add, that stadium seat from Amazon has two full length rubber bottom on each side, and with your weight, that sucker ain't going nowhere. I have the same kayak and used to have the same stadium seat til sac river swallowed it earlier this year.
So I have stress tested the seat in the kayak now and I find that it does lift up on me of I start to dig in to my paddling. Could be a technique thing, don't know. I did flip the yak close to shore though and luckily it was in the shallows so was able to recover the seat. Thing is bolted down now.
Thinking to bay this kayak ( angler 120) in 5,7 200 lb do you guys have any specs on this kayak? Any experience?? I will use mostly of the time on bay,,,,
You can find these plastic saw horses at Home Depot/Lowe’s. The ones I got have a few hanger on the side which have been great to store all my transportation gear like straps and such
Hey BJ you should be fine. I’ve cruised around that weight before in this boat, no problems. I’d just be conscious of what you bring out though. The boats normal capacity is 275. I bring a crate with 2 tackle boxes, a gallon bag of plastics, cart and only two rods. As long as you don’t plan on bringing the kitchen sink, you should be fine 👍🏼 hope that helps!

Great video. I assume you don't use a fish finder since I see you didn't make a mod for it? If not, would love to know your reasons and your successes without.
Thanks Dominik, much appreciated! I did not want to put a fish finder in this kayak primarily because space is limited and the bodies of water I planned to take this in were smaller, I didnt see the need to add a bunch of extra weight, time and money to put one on. I have a Vibe Seaghost now and have bought a fish finder for that since I'll be accessing a lot more water in that Kayak. From a success point of view, my take is always "it's not the plane, it's the pilot." I could have the fanciest fish finder and still not catch a fish. I do as much research as I can before going out on the water and pick where I plan to paddle and what I plan to throw based on season, weather, conditions, etc. For the most part, I've only had a few skunk days on the Tamarack because of this. Learn the body of water, throw a lot of different baits that make sense, and the fish finder then becomes a better tool because at that point you can really hone in on the fish without solely relying on your finder.
@@NORCALRODREEL sounds good, appreciate that! I think I get what your saying. I've been looking at the navionics topo maps on the computer before I go, trying to find natural points, structure, dropoffs etc.
My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!
Nice! I looked at that too for a while since you can buy it straight to paddle and convert then to the pedal. Do you have the pedal drive? How do you like the boat?
Nor Cal Rod & Reel yes, I got it with pedal drive and rudder. I went out on it for the first time Sunday in the river, and I hit like 5-6 miles no sweat. Can’t compare tamarack to this one. But, I can’t just take it under my arm like I did with tamarack. 🤣

No issues at all, your weight does all the work and the stadium seat is almost a perfect fit. In my opinion it would be overkill to fasten it down 👍🏼
I just want to add, that stadium seat from Amazon has two full length rubber bottom on each side, and with your weight, that sucker ain't going nowhere. I have the same kayak and used to have the same stadium seat til sac river swallowed it earlier this year.
YNOT? Aaa sorry to hear - maybe then fastening ain’t consideration for the seat haha
@@NORCALRODREEL thanks. You know what they say for kayak fishing......"tether everhthing!".
So I have stress tested the seat in the kayak now and I find that it does lift up on me of I start to dig in to my paddling. Could be a technique thing, don't know. I did flip the yak close to shore though and luckily it was in the shallows so was able to recover the seat. Thing is bolted down now.
Great ideas!
What brand is the seat..thanks
Subscribed, you're alright brother.
Appreciate you! Thanks for stopping by!
Thinking to bay this kayak ( angler 120) in 5,7 200 lb do you guys have any specs on this kayak? Any experience?? I will use mostly of the time on bay,,,,
You’ll be fine in the boat 👍🏼 are you planning on using it in the bay?
@@NORCALRODREEL yes I'm planning to use mostly of the time on bay,,,
707 here how would it favor skinny waters?
Not too shabby. You’ll be paddling a lot to reposition the boat but I’ve had good days with a bit of wind where this puppy drifts stupendously.
What go pro mount
What camera did you use to film this video? Thanks for the suggestions.
Hi mike, I shot this on a Sony a6500, also was using a gimbal
Nice set up. New sub!
Thanks bud!
great video, very informative!
Thanks for stoppin by and watching 👍🏼
What width seat did you get?
17"
Also what are you using for the stand?
You can find these plastic saw horses at Home Depot/Lowe’s. The ones I got have a few hanger on the side which have been great to store all my transportation gear like straps and such
Straight outta the box my ass, mine in came triple layer plastic lmao
😂 haha mine did too, figure of speech!
I'm 6'2" 250 lbs. Will this boat hold someone my size
@@NORCALRODREEL thank you!
Yes, it will hold shorter skinny guys like you.
I agree the lifetime kayaks are great for starting out and a great value ...for a larger person...I am 6'4 275...check out the brand new FeelFree Moken 10 Version 2 599.00 it has great features and enormous capacity 550 lbs....I have plenty of room and stability. The company improved an already great Kayak and slashed the price....take advantage.

This dude won’t stop talking about this damn tray
Must be important
I’m 6 ft 4 is this long enough?
I’m 6’10 and I fit in this kayak
Does anyone know the seat size? 17" or 20" inch
I think its the 17". I saw other videos using 17" cascade brand seat.
How much do you weigh if you dont mind me asking?
I’m normally somewhere around 230-240, have been fine in the kayak
Why not just tell him his butt looks big in those jeans.
Where does the beer cooler go? Lol
Similar to my setup. But I’m moving up...😁
Nice, what are you planning on getting? I just picked up a Vibe Seaghost 130 and love it 👍🏼
Nor Cal Rod & Reel I got Wilderness Systems Radar 115.
Haha I hear you, I feel the same way about the Seaghost, definitely needs a set of wheels!
A "Lurrr"?
PVC stabilizer😅🤷🏽♂️
You could! I’ve seen at least one with that out of the rod holders
Can you stand on it
Nope, definitely just sit on top. I’m sure some people have tried and maybe even been successful but I wouldn’t recommend it
If you have a gopro you're in it for more than a 100
same with if you buy fishing rods, reels, baits youre in it for more than 100...
Damn you look like Leo DiCaprio
Found one for $75 but idk if the site is legit
I found the same thing but the site didn’t seem legit. I searched and it sounded like it was more than likely a scam site.
Hinkleberry Farms yeah lmao if I’m buying a kayak I’m just gonna do it in person
Mine is missing a seat altogether? Can I go straight to stadium or so I need to find oem seat first? I've had no luck finding an original seat.
