this is a REAL how-to video that covered all the step by step bases in a hands on format. By far one of the best videos that i have watched and really learned from, well done Sir!
Sir, what an incredible set up! I am taking notes and adding to my Amazon cart. My girlfriend and I are picking up our kayaks tomorrow and I want to emulate your setup. Thank you for taking time to share this valuable information.
Verry thoughtful mods,......to see if bolts are stainless steel,....a magnet don't stick to stainless steel,......but a magnet sticks to stainless steel plated bolts and plated bolts will rust in salt water. A seat needs to be mounted,......and that looks like an excellent seat. I'm 310 pounds,.....but I don't know what Kayaks are designed for full sized men,.....that can perform well in water. You seem to be able to find all the stuff to pimp your ride. Great Job.
Got 3 minutes into your vid and found the best idea for securing my battery into place. The best ideas are often the easiest. Thanks Gary, Good job and hi from New Zealand.
Brilliant Gary! You're a smart guy and I'm using many mods you demonstrated so concisely. The only thing I would have differently is to forgo the track and riser on the fish finder mount and instead mount the flat plate directly in that location to keep it low and out the way while paddling. The sonar is most useful during navigation. Thanks for a great instructional video!
@@CaliforniaOutdoorsman Yes, that may make a difference. I experimented with mine and used a mount that I could easily move out of the way if needed while paddling. However, to see the unit while paddling, that doesn't work. I'd be interested in what you find that works for you. Thanks!
Great video. Kayaks are going to tip at some point. Please make sure you have everything secured when (not if) you take a spill. Coming home safely is job one for all of us yakers. Enjoyed your video very much. 😎
Thank you! Thanks for the tip! I know I mentioned it in a video somewhere, I just can't put my finger on it at the moment. But, yes, as they say "leash it or lose it!" Thanks!

I am just getting into Kayaking and this has inspired me to make mine the same as yours. Thanks again for sharing your expertise, very impressive Sir.
This is by far the best/most educational modification video I’ve seen on UA-cam. I am looking at getting into kayak fishing and this video is great! Thank you for the ideas and great descriptions!
Thanks Gary for a great video. I just ordered Lifetime Tamarack Anglers for my wife and I tonight along with the Cascade stadium seats and a few other mods you showed. I can't wait to get on the water. Thanks again for the time saving information.
This is by far the best and most educational step by step video on the lifetime tamarack! I have one as well that is fully outfitted but learned a couple new things as well. Great job on the video. I'm looking forward to more. Liked and subscribed.
I mounted my striker 4 on a Scotty 1" ball track mount, though the mounting plate for the striker was from Ram (1"ball with a plate). Gives you a bit more freedom on the position of the screen
Thank you sir for the best dyi video on UA-cam. I'm looking to sale down I own the Ascend 10t and it's a good kayak but truly a pain loading it on top of my SUV. This kayak is at the top of my list because I will have to purchase 2 for my Son and I. Thanks again.
Also maybe attach the 1st (bottom) oval mount all the way forward than all the way back as would give you more room/clearance for paddling, casting, landing fish etc. ?
@@GarysOutdoors,Hi there,Evening sir. Thanks as just came to me/noticed as I watched video. Hopefully it helps you if current mounting placement doesn't.
Never use pop rivets on any plastic unless you put stainless washers on the other side. Put bondo under plate ( let it harden) to take up vacant space under plate. Do it over cling wrap so it can be removed if you change your mind later.
I've had this yak for a year now. Made outriggers with pvc and crab floats attached to brocraft rod holders. All I have to do now is secure rod holders to front of yak. Hatch isnt close enough for me to put nuts on bottom of stainless screws, which I already have. I've got kayak rivets but never used or saw them being used. Any ideas
Thanks! Rivets work good in hard to reach situations. Just be sure the top and bottom surfaces are flat to each other, else the rivets may not get a good grip. Or, if you have a skinny young kid that can climb in there to hold the nuts . . . 😁
Rico Suave Reyes I just bought this kayak late last year. Did you drag your kayak a lot or scrape the bottom ever when you were out fishing? Just wondering how it handles things like that. I don’t plan on dragging my kayak, try and keep that to a minimum but I do fish creeks where rocks or branches will hit you sometimes and some places you have to get out and drag it to continue. Thanks

This was an outstanding and sufficiently-detailed walk through many excellent and useful mods. I'm looking hard at getting one of these kayaks, so I'd be curious on your thoughts after having used it awhile. I realize it's an entry-level boat, but it may be all I can ever afford. Heard a lot of good things, and, at $250 or so, the price is definitely right!
Thank you! Yes, this is an entry level kayak. You can spend thousand$ on a bigger base kayak, then modify it. The more $ and size adds more capacities. The problem with this one is weight limit and some stability. To stand in this one, you need a good sense of balance. The weight limit is 275 lbs. I'm at 250 myself, so I can only add 25 lbs of gear. which is a lot if you think about it. And you can exceed the weight limit a little, altho not recommended. Apart from that, it's a great kayak! My son has the same one also and he's into being a minimalist with gear. I asked him to make us a video on how to fish with minimal gear. We'll see how that goes as he gains experience with it, and handles a few big fish. Thanks!
Hi there,Evening sir. As I was watching you put the rod holder screws on was thinking even the nuts could catch/snag on bag or something,Why not counter sink nut into create so nothing is sticking out on inside of create?
Thank you! A good idea! I would be concerned about weakening the strength of the milk crate by thinning it. Your suggestion does lead me to the thought of using a woodworking technique. Decorative washers may work. See this link on Rockler. They come in different finishes. Stainless? I don't know. www.rockler.com/decorative-washers-choose-finish Thanks for your suggestion!
Thanks. I may do some fishing videos. Will have to learn how to do that. I've been doing mostly woodworking videos amd some personal things on this channel. My woodworking channel is www.UA-cam.com/c/GaryLundgrenCrafts.
