I am from Guatemala. The country is almost the worst country in all of America, second only to Haiti. The violence here is unreal, so present in people's lives that one of the newspapers is nicknamed 'Muerto Diario', Dead Newspaper, for the amount of murders that appear on it. I live in a pretty safe area of my town, and even I see the poverty and violence on a daily basis. My mother was robbed not a minute after she left our house. My best friend lives in one of the most impoverished and violent barrios in town, and they see a shootout almost every week. Our people are incompetent because they don't get to go to school. People live in landfills, and are excited when they find rotting food in the trash. It doesn't help that our leaders are corrupt and the main industry is drug trafficking. These are the reasons people try to escape from the country and look for a better life in other countries. Visas expire, airplane tickets are expensive, and applying for residency is near impossible, and people know this, so illegal immigration is their only option. If the crackdown doesn't stop, all these poor people will end up dead. These changes should help peole seeking new lives, not doom them. The gangs in these countries control everything, and if they find out you tried to escape them, you and your family is as good as dead. So many people are looking for shelter, and if they get that right denied, these people will lose all hope and succumb to violence, and join it. I do not support illegal immigration, all I'm saying is it should be safer and easier for people to make these journeys to find a better life. Edit: We're having elections right now, and if this woman Sandra Torres wins the elections, there's a good chance that Guatemala will fall to Socialism. My family and I are percieved as extremely wealthy because of our family history, even though we're not, so we are really threatened by invasions or robberies, and with the government turning a blind eye, the narcos could do whatever they want. Edit 2: Recently we had country-wide protests against one of the better presidents we've had in my life, which really isn't saying much. There's still much corruption in the country, but we might be able to make it through

Monica Cinco We actually are getting a new law for agriculture, effective in june, where you need a lisence for practically anything, and the government is already nailing people for functioning while violating the law that doesn't exist yet
I work with a Guatemalan. Great guy. Hardworking badass. He also fled the violence with his family. I cannot fault him for wanting a better, safer life for his family. Faced with the same decisions, I'd flee too.
and the thing is trump supporters just knowing the fact that this man came here illegally (not saying he did) will instantly want to deport him telling him to go back to his country all claiming that they need to focus on america first when they dont want universal healthcare nor do they want do stuff for the poor in the US. I live in the northwest part of Mexico in a rural area and in the past two to three years there has been a dramatic upscale in the amount of illegal migrants coming from the countries you mentioned but also from Haiti. The issue is something unprecedented for this part of the country because the route they used to take was up thru the east coast of the country. I really hope there can be a solution to this issue for the sake of the migrants and for the secure of all the countries involved.
The drugs that people do in US for fun and recreation is actually destroying so many lives in Central America. That's why I don't do drugs. Never touched it in my entire life. Not even weed. Drugs, apart from destroying your life also destroys many other lives as well. Say no to drugs.
For almost a century, it was bananas. The tactics implemented were basically the same though. Flood a country with weapons to create instability, but make sure your guy has the best weapons so that once he's killed off the opposition, America can have cheap bananas. This isn't a drug problem, although legalizing a popular, harmless drug like weed would basically fix it overnight. It's a problem of the US consistently jeopardizing the rest of the world to protect the interests of a few corporations that get almost total power in the US.

Secondly I’ve been to Mexico and was dumbfounded by the amount of jobs the Mexican people create on their own. When I past the poorer regions I noticed people in extreme poverty selling candy on the street or cleaning cars when they would stop for a red light. Saying us as Americans are struggling without jobs is exaggerating as if they really wanted they could get a job, even if it’s a shitty one they could get one. As I don’t know the father I can’t make judgments and say he’s good or bad but from the clip that was shown my guess is that he would get a job as a day laborer or something, a job few Americans even glance at. You are so brave for speaking about this delicate topic in such a frank way. I'm not going to say that my home country, Mexico, is guilt-free, because it's not, but it really gets to me when American people acknowlege the role their country is playing from behind. Violence and corruption in Mexico are heavily supported by the influx of money and firearms coming from the US, their unwillingness to tackle drug demand at home and the political pressure they put on Mexican authorities to implement these quick-fixes to such complex problems. In the chaos, poor people and normal civilians are the ones to pay the toll. Anyway, I really hope more people watch this not with the proud eyes of a MAGA nationalist, but with the sympathy of a human being who's fortunate enough to sit comfortably in front of a computer, while whole families leave behind whatever few possesions they had just to survive!
I feel so bad for that father in the beginning with his son who started crying when they got caught, my heart goes out to him, I hope he doesn't get sent back, I can only imagine the danger they must have been facing where leaving your family behind & heading towards the danger of the unknown is better choice than staying in the place you have always called home...

@Ana Myers Unfortunately a lot of them were so poor that they had neither the knowledge nor the access to contraception. Might not change the number as a whole, but still might be a factor. Not to mention it's very common for hopeless people to have hope by trying to have kids and hoping that they could do better... Especially in environments that lack the idea of liberal/libertarian individualism, which is surprisingly ( or not) again, positively correlated with level of education and income (overall).
Its impressive the difference between the northern countries of Central America and the Southern Ones. I live in Panama, and I've witnessed the opposite happening here. Thousands and thousands of Venezuelans have been crossing to Colombia through the country to reach Panama. Here in Panama, many oppose this sudden influx of Venezuelans, but thankfully most do not mind or support it.

As a Mexican citizen I can assure you this is also increasing a racism problem, many people has started to hate those who come from central and south America. Even in Mexico we consider chiapas a dangerous place to live.

Look at amazon, they started out as a book store and their CEO had a bad start. Obviously, it is much harder now, but it is still possible. You can make millions from anything, you just need to be determined and smart about what you do.
As someone who lives in Mexico unlike you guys. Living in Mexico isnt all that easy as you guys think. Its very diffucult to get money. So many people in Mexico live in poverty look at cities like Tijuana who have slums. Would you like to live in a slum? Unless you're a drug lord or come from a rich family money aint easy. Not to mention corruption and all other factors like poor living condition and bad work environments.
On the other hand, the largest majority of documented and legal immigrants in the USA are from Mexico, as well as the majority of naturalized U.S Citizens.

As always, even though the videos are leaving out perspectives, it is good that topics like that get mentioned. It shows quite clearly that migration politics is a tricky topic everywhere. US politicians were quite clever in outsourcing their work to Mexico; the Democrats save their valuable voters base of recent Latino immigrants while playing the savior on the surface and actually keeping out the more problematic migrants and the Republicans achieve their political goal of more militarization and therefore more contracts to the industry. What bothers me more in the Vox videos is the naive belief that any political decision is made for humanitarian reasons. Politics at that level is never about human rights or anything like that mentioned in the video. It is about political interests and who shares them. It is about leverage and power. Those of you who watch House of Cards should know how it works. Mexico's reason for doing something for the migrants is not only because of the US problems. People forget that drug smuggling, crime and illegal immigration are also a domestic concern for Mexican politicians. The state bordering Guatemala is one of the poorest in Mexico with the lowest level of HDI. It is considered a political and cultural outlier as it has the Zapatista movement (extreme left, while the central government leans more to the libertarian right) and is closer to the native culture of various tribes than to that of the more northern states. The various parties in government are under pressure to do something about it. Mexico gets money and military equipment from the industrious US without having the federal Mexican government to pay for the Chiapas regional government. It gets them off the unemployment problem by making the local population into a police force.
I agree with some of your points, but to think that *all* governments are unable/unwilling to make decisions regarding Human Rights is false. Europe's political class, despite all the disagreement and internal conflict, has been working for the most part to help protect immigrants. They're not very effective at it, much less efficient, but they're trying, and those decisions have also come bundled with a hefty political cost. Unfortunately, the US government has been, for the longest time, a completely amoral political body. As you say, the decisions taken at the highest levels of American politics are weighted overwhelmingly on a cost/benefit basis and without the slightest ethical or moral regard (other than 'does this cross the line where organized resistance from citizens could be dangerous?' - which is the only thing politicians truly fear). And yeah, making Mexico do the dirty work must've been an excellent solution for both sides of the aisle. What I really don't get is how the practical realities of employment *never* factor in the American political discourse. You people need an *ass-ton* of immigrants to operate as a society! That Mar-A-Lago employs hundreds of underpaid, overworked aliens, that that imbecile you have in the WH makes his red hats in China, and that the agricultural sector would collapse without Latinos, is never mentioned, acknowledged, or truly pondered in a serious manner at the highest levels of government.
Actually we have to build a wall on east texas and northern california to keep americans out. Then we deport central americans that were born anywhere between Texas and California back to their country. Then we build a wall against Guatemala.

I personally know people from Honduras that left and stayed in Mexico and had a pretty great life in Mexico they were refugees in Honduras fleeing from gangs that were trying to kill them Some people think Mexico is the same as central América and it's not ..you could stay in Mexico and have a good life so idk why US is their first choice since compared to Central America Mexico is a "paradise" just wanted to let people know since people arguing saying Mexico is just as dangerous when I'm reality it's relatively safe

Definently. Most people take for granted living in the Us. I live in Mexico and its very difficult to earn money unless you have a high end job. There is also a high crime rate, so police have to be in armoured vehicles have heavy machinery and vest to be able to apprehend the Mafia which is a huge problem in Mexico.

Take the money out of drugs by decriminalising them, that would go to solving half the problem immediately - no money for the gangs to operate or corrupt the law. and government with It's a start, but in the end, everyone loves the country they were born in so we need to help these countries establish the rule of law, anti-corruption forces and jobs. This will allow the people to remain there safely and those that left can return with money and knowledge to help rebuild/advance their country, the proverbial win-win if it can be achieved.

I’m from Mexico, it’s unreal to think that Mexican government is always saying that Mexico is always helping migrants, and that if you are a migrant you should contact with the authorities so they can help you. This open my eyes. We as a country are focused on what’s happening in other places of the world, like the migrants of Syria, when that’s actually happening in our country.

He said earlier also that that is "the authorities abusing their power" but thaat dosent make sense it is the authorities jobs to stop and deport illegal migrants like man its their job (also i did some research and mexican border patrols and agents do not get extra pay or anything for taking in and deporting people)
We should take some of these kids and educate them in good economic policies like we did with the Chicago boys. We should take other kids and train them in good policing and counter terror strategies. Then we should take others and send them to West Point to train them in military strategies and leaderships. Then they can return home and with our support oust the criminals and corrupters. Good economic policies, effective policing, and an effective Army loyal to the people and not to bribes. Then provide loans for job creation and infrastructure. In 15-20 years they will have no reason to leave their home countries. Opportunity can be found in their own neighborhood rather than hundreds of miles away.
I am here in Mexico, I have met a dozen or so refugees from Venezuela, all really good people who are fleeing the situation in their home country. Afraid to go back. All went through the legal process of asking the US for asylum. They have filed all th e papers, done everything that was asked, remaining in Mexico and going to all the hearings demanded by the US govt. They did it the right way, even though to cross illegally would have been easier, faster and cheaper. These are good people, most quite educated, most speak good English. And yet not one was granted asylum and let into the US. They are stuck in Mexico, if they go back home they will most likely be killed by the Maduro regime. Yet they still refuse to cross illegally.
the narrator literally said that agreement dates back to 2007 (when XP was widley used) either way, today a lot of computers use Windows XP because a lot of security and bank programs were built on it and can only be used on it (ironically enough, that's a security breach for using XP for so long)

I live in the northwest part of Mexico in a rural area and in the past two to three years there has been a dramatic upscale in the amount of illegal migrants coming from the countries you mentioned but also from Haiti. The issue is something unprecedented for this part of the country because the route they used to take was up thru the east coast of the country. I really hope there can be a solution to this issue for the sake of the migrants and for the secure of all the countries involved.

For almost a century, it was bananas. The tactics implemented were basically the same though. Flood a country with weapons to create instability, but make sure your guy has the best weapons so that once he's killed off the opposition, America can have cheap bananas.

When I past the poorer regions I noticed people in extreme poverty selling candy on the street or cleaning cars when they would stop for a red light. Saying us as Americans are struggling without jobs is exaggerating as if they really wanted they could get a job, even if it’s a shitty one they could get one. I'm not going to say that my home country, Mexico, is guilt-free, because it's not, but it really gets to me when American people acknowlege the role their country is playing from behind. Violence and corruption in Mexico are heavily supported by the influx of money and firearms coming from the US, their unwillingness to tackle drug demand at home and the political pressure they put on Mexican authorities to implement these quick-fixes to such complex problems. In the chaos, poor people and normal civilians are the ones to pay the toll. Anyway, I really hope more people watch this not with the proud eyes of a MAGA nationalist, but with the sympathy of a human being who's fortunate enough to sit comfortably in front of a computer, while whole families leave behind whatever few possesions they had just to survive!

Not to mention it's very common for hopeless people to have hope by trying to have kids and hoping that they could do better... Especially in environments that lack the idea of liberal/libertarian individualism, which is surprisingly ( or not) again, positively correlated with level of education and income (overall).

They see the US as opportunity for a better life. And it is possible, despite the pessimistic comments of many sad internet surfers. Look at amazon, they started out as a book store and their CEO had a bad start. Obviously, it is much harder now, but it is still possible. You can make millions from anything, you just need to be determined and smart about what you do.
As someone who lives in Mexico unlike you guys. Living in Mexico isnt all that easy as you guys think. Its very diffucult to get money. So many people in Mexico live in poverty look at cities like Tijuana who have slums. Would you like to live in a slum? Unless you're a drug lord or come from a rich family money aint easy. As always, even though the videos are leaving out perspectives, it is good that topics like that get mentioned.
It shows quite clearly that migration politics is a tricky topic everywhere. US politicians were quite clever in outsourcing their work to Mexico; the Democrats save their valuable voters base of recent Latino immigrants while playing the savior on the surface and actually keeping out the more problematic migrants and the Republicans achieve their political goal of more militarization and therefore more contracts to the industry.
What bothers me more in the Vox videos is the naive belief that any political decision is made for humanitarian reasons. Politics at that level is never about human rights or anything like that mentioned in the video. It is about political interests and who shares them. It is about leverage and power. Those of you who watch House of Cards should know how it works.
Mexico's reason for doing something for the migrants is not only because of the US problems. People forget that drug smuggling, crime and illegal immigration are also a domestic concern for Mexican politicians. The state bordering Guatemala is one of the poorest in Mexico with the lowest level of HDI. It is considered a political and cultural outlier as it has the Zapatista movement (extreme left, while the central government leans more to the libertarian right) and is closer to the native culture of various tribes than to that of the more northern states. The various parties in government are under pressure to do something about it. Mexico gets money and military equipment from the industrious US without having the federal Mexican government to pay for the Chiapas regional government. It gets them off the unemployment problem by making the local population into a police force.
I agree with some of your points, but to think that *all* governments are unable/unwilling to make decisions regarding Human Rights is false. Europe's political class, despite all the disagreement and internal conflict, has been working for the most part to help protect immigrants. They're not very effective at it, much less efficient, but they're trying, and those decisions have also come bundled with a hefty political cost.
Unfortunately, the US government has been, for the longest time, a completely amoral political body. As you say, the decisions taken at the highest levels of American politics are weighted overwhelmingly on a cost/benefit basis and without the slightest ethical or moral regard (other than 'does this cross the line where organized resistance from citizens could be dangerous?' - which is the only thing politicians truly fear). And yeah, making Mexico do the dirty work must've been an excellent solution for both sides of the aisle.
What I really don't get is how the practical realities of employment *never* factor in the American political discourse. You people need an *ass-ton* of immigrants to operate as a society! That Mar-A-Lago employs hundreds of underpaid, overworked aliens, that that imbecile you have in the WH makes his red hats in China, and that the agricultural sector would collapse without Latinos, is never mentioned, acknowledged, or truly pondered in a serious manner at the highest levels of government.

Definently. Most people take for granted living in the Us. I live in Mexico and its very difficult to earn money unless you have a high end job. There is also a high crime rate, so police have to be in armoured vehicles have heavy machinery and vest to be able to apprehend the Mafia which is a huge problem in Mexico.

Good economic policies, effective policing, and an effective Army loyal to the people and not to bribes. Then provide loans for job creation and infrastructure. In 15-20 years they will have no reason to leave their home countries. Opportunity can be found in their own neighborhood rather than hundreds of miles away.

I am here in Mexico, I have met a dozen or so refugees from Venezuela, all really good people who are fleeing the situation in their home country. Afraid to go back. All went through the legal process of asking the US for asylum. They have filed all th e papers, done everything that was asked, remaining in Mexico and going to all the hearings demanded by the US govt. They did it the right way, even though to cross illegally would have been easier, faster and cheaper. These are good people, most quite educated, most speak good English. And yet not one was granted asylum and let into the US. They are stuck in Mexico, if they go back home they will most likely be killed by the Maduro regime. Yet they still refuse to cross illegally.
