I’m so proud of and impressed by Jill and her book. She really opened her deepest thoughts and experiences and also kept boundaries on things she didn’t want to provide details about…that’s fine…I don’t need or want the nitty gritty of what Josh did to her, I would support her talking about it all, and I support her drawing the line at what is comfortable to her for the public to have. She showed such strength through this, and it’s very hard to go against “the family line” (I’ve done it…it’s hard, it’s isolating, it’s anxiety provoking, it’s sad…but you’re free, and being free to be yourself is worth it!) I feel for everyone who has been victimized by JB (I don’t count Josh) and can appreciate the hurt Jill feels having her siblings and family friends pressure her and ostracize her, and respect that she still takes the high road and does not name them specifically. I’m glad to hear some have also talked to her about how to not be under JB’s control. I had no idea her birth with Samuel was so life threatening to them both!!! I think in this book she spoke her truth in a way she wanted the public (and maybe her family, too) to understand her experience, growth, trauma, and beautiful moments. I hope she is proud of this work, it was the detailing of very complex relationships, feelings, how love and hate can exist at the same time, and she did a very good job with this. I also appreciated that while she discussed her religious beliefs, the growth and change she had in them, and the importance of them to her, specifically, which is a big part of her life and her conflict with her family. I was absolutely fine with that, and I very much appreciated her talking about having been judgmental of others in the past and feeling that was wrong, and also not dictating to anyone reading the book that they need to have the same beliefs as her in order to be “a good person.” She did an excellent job of discussing the importance of religion throughout her life, without evangelizing, thank you, Jill. Three cheers for your bravery, and I happily spent my money on your book. I wish you the very best in life in the future and that you have many more roses and a lot fewer thorns over time.
