It's a decent box, the models are a lot crisper in detail than I expected, though the trade off is there's some really fragile bits. Also, watching this makes me wish I'd tried NMM, although this model looks amazing in TMM too. Also,(pt 2:) good job.
Just started building mine, got Yndrasta built so far and really impressed with the miniature, although definitely one to approach carefully, so many fragile bits on there
I've gotta say, I'll be using the coffee filters instead of construction paper the next time I need leaves. Your base work here was fantastic and it follows a lot of what I know to be good basing process. You've looked at where the model appears to be set and further fleshed out the story of that location.
Now I know that I have to absolutely step up my gold nmm game. Your paintjob looks awesome and you did all that in just 5 days?! You really are a witch! ^^
Fist video of yours I've seen. Subscribed! Very educational. It broke me out of my usual way of thinking. When you were doing the wings, I was nearly crying and screaming "Y NO DRYBRUSH?!"
If you can't get ahold of an appropriately scaled leaf punch, you might have luck with snipping bits from a *snowflake* punch, which is much more common. I find them at goodwill often.
Wow! At this point in my mini painting hobby, Im not ready to try these techniques, but it still inspires me. I like that you explain this like a science. Well done!
I like the Yndrasta fig. I think GW is at least sort of moving in the right direction with their female sculpts. I love how much color you push into your gold nmm. I want to be that gutsy too, for some reason gold makes me kinda sheepish and reserved about sneaking in some color. My Kimera sets are on their way, can't wait to see them. Was stoked to see you trying them and commenting on how helpful they were. Thanks too for sharing your thought process on how to spend your limited time, and where you wished you had had more time to invest but chose not to. It's starting to feel like the bulk of my decision making process painting a model is just deciding what's going to be good enough and doesn't need a zillion more hours, lol.
Mini looks incredible. I’m a lazy painter, so seeing you go in and mark out shadows and highlights in Procreate so that you know where they go on the mini is amazing to watch. Have you thought about doing some basing tutorials?
I totally get the pressure of time versus quality ! I had to paint Yndrasta for display quality in a week to have it ready for display at my local game store and even though I spent a good 20 hours on it, I couldn’t get the freehand on the cape as good as I wanted it!! You did great tho and also record a video for us! Cheers !
I've been interested in Kimera colors, but haven't tried them. I'd be interested in hearing a full review on them. One thing you could do in time crunches like that for NMM is use oils. I'd experiment with them some time, but they can be amazing for putting together NMM blends very quickly. The way you are mixing your colors from Kimera isn't so different than setting up your oil blends. Often you would need to use less colors since the paint naturally blends on the model. It is a pretty big learning curve, but it's a thought.
What an awesome video. I think could title the video 3 different titles and could still would be great video 1) you cover color theory and project design/planning 2 ) could be complete video covering painting techniques ( glazes dilution , dry brushing , creating texture and cohesion 3) nmm techniques. Very thorough video Thank you for all your videos
Very nicely done! Especially for the quick turnaround. I'm planning to make a display piece out of my yndrasta, and this has given me some ideas. I want to use the core rules arwork as my inspiration as well.
Hi Lyla, Another great video. Have to say I'm not a fan of AoS and that is unlikely to change. Also just wanted to say thanks for all the other videos that you have done, you do a great job of explaining the processes used. I found your explanation of light and shadow have certainly made a difference to my painting. Thanks again and stay safe. Oh and if you haven't tried it, I find Panzer Putty works better for masking than poster tac (or what ever you guys call it) and you can reuse it over and over again.
Jaw dropping work. 😍 even with the time crunch this Is quite inspiring. I honestly like a deadline for painting models, i find I can dwell in a valley of hate and self loathing the longer I work on model...
Hey Lyla! Your videos and process are always fascinating, I think I've learned the most from you as a painter on youtube (and I watch quite a few, you're seriously great)! In this video, when you're cutting between the two audio recordings, I could really pick up on how some of the clips, your microphone gain might be set a bit high (maybe because you're capturing audio while you're on camera?) Really loved the editing on this video!
Very nice! I never thought to use a red wash on brown, but it actually makes a lot of sense. I’ve heard to shade red with brown for more subtle shadows, and the same seems to work if you reverse the colours. I’m no expert on colour theory, though. Thanks for the great video.
Excellent video! Subscribed! I'm going to go with a true metallic metal on mine (I've experimented with some Spaz Stixx color shift Green/Gold on a Stormcast Warband and am doing my whole army that way), but you've given me a lot of ideas, especially on the base.
This mini is a work of art. I swear you’re not doing your ‘do your minis suck’ video any favours 🤣 I’m currently painting the whole Zombicide 2nd edition box (with no speed-painting) #NotificationSquad
Looks terrific. Really nice work. Have you considered trying out the oil paint approach that's been trending lately? Might literally save you days on a given model... Just a thought. Still. Excellent work.
With all of games workshops issues with cursed city I wasn't sure if they would release separately, thats why I was so excited to paint her, even with only 5 days!
Paints this beautiful model in 5 DAYS. I push and pull my nmm FOR A FEW WEEKS before I'm happy with it (and usually I'm just giving up)... Cardamom magic confirmed.
@Lyla Mev - The Mini Witch Awesome video and fantastic explanations throughout. I'm nowhere near this level of skill, but there's loads I can take away from this. Thank you. I'm gutted that I foolishly glued on the wings to my Yndrasta figure, so it's goin to limit how much airbrushing I can do. My stormcast army was already and odd choice of green armour with red-orange accents, so I'll be a lil off-piste but the lighting tips regarding box art will help loads. If you have any advice I'd greatly appreciate it.
Lovely use of a variety of products and techniques, think you sold me on those leaf punches. What app are you using to color sample the reference images?
Amazing miniature (both the sculpt and your brilliant work on it), I love the silver and the leaves on the base especially! For airbrushing you used "poster tack", is this basically Blu-Tack (what I am used to) or is it a different product, does anyone know?
Hey, what's the app you use to create colour schemes etc that I see you use a lot on your videos, seems really helpful. I'm useless at picking the right colours for my models and it just puts me off painting them all together 😔 absolutely loving your content after finding you on YT a few weeks ago. You rock girl!
@@nicholasharmer7415 Nice! Good luck. I ordered Dominion and was not at all thinking, "I'll try NMM." Now...maybe :) It's my first AoS anything, so it could be cool to make it my first NMM too.
@@type6 Good luck to you too. It'll be my first NMM as well. Or more likely one of the other heroes will be to practice before going for the centrepiece!
Did you find the Kimera Colors paints to be too Matte of a finish for you? I won a box of them, and while I LOVE how well they coat, the matte finish is too dark, been thinking of using the bottle of satin medium just right into the bottles instead of individually everytime I use a color.
I usually do a matte varnish too... Yeah, I just have to get used to them I think. So used to GW and Vallejo paints that the extreme matte is a bit unsettling for my eyes, if that makes sense.
My first thought was ow! For her abs to be out like that wouldn’t she be like disemboweled? Next thought, is she wearing pieces of a pine cone costume? I am new to these things so please be patient with me, but my dear I believe you could have constructed her far better than the packaging graphics seen at 3:02.
Just a curiosity question. Why use a glove on you brush hand? And not a glove on the other hand as it gets a lot of paint? Also, great video. Really a great way to learn as you explain very well the process. :D
The oils from your skin can rub off the paint is the model isn't sealed. so if I have to hold the model itself when I'm paint I wear a glove or wrap or it in saran wrap.
@@LylaMev makes sense. But it’s not easier to use also glove to prevent getting paint in the hands? I’m fairly new but when I try to use an airbrush, if I didn’t use gloves I believe yet today I would be washing the paint. 😅

The fact that you pick out colours from an artpiece as sort of a "digital palette" is soooo satisfying.
you made NMM more approachable. great vid!
