Idea: this but instead of just making a grimdark version of an eternal, make it into a traitor one as a proxy Chaos Warrior.
Nice idea! They're plain enough to add lots of cool chaosy bits too.
I made a grimdark spacemarine with an lmg. Cut off his shoulder and replaced it with a plaguemarine shoulder. The one with the three skulls. Cut away his mag and scope from his bolter and glued a box mag underneath. Used a flag from a chaos warrior flagbearer to use it as a shoulder cape wich i shaped with a lighter. Doesnt wear a helmet. Spacemarine head with the short hair. Cut off his chest insignia and smoothened it. Chipped off some pieces of his normal shoulder pad, his neck protection and his kneepads, used a stanley knife to damage the armor even further. Grimdark styled paintjob on it and there we go.

I think Stormcast work well in a darker tone. As other people have mentioned, it gives them a dark souls vibe.
This came at a good time! Gonna be painting up some Gloomcast Eternals for my Death Army, and this scheme looks like it’d fit right in!

Thank you for taking the time to go through all the steps, I guess it must be boring to keep repeating the basics but it is very very useful to have everything summarized in a single video. Personally loved the fact that this paintjob had a lot of basic steps covered: green stuff management, varnishing, shading, contrast paints, filtering with watered down colors... also appreciated the soundtrack and the wow lighting during the final showcase. Pleasant video with its own personality. I dont have specific requests, as long as I feel that you are following your own style! Kudos

I also recommend you give it a go. It's cathartic to work with your own hands and essentially create something out of raw materials and have it conform to your vision.

dude this looks awesome and is a easy way of doing it, a lot of guides for similar stuff expect a lot of a casual painter but this looks doable.

How about some of those new high elves, that would be a heck of a grim dark challenge.
Idea: you could try converting a squad of Guardsmen into necromorphs from Dead Space.

Awesome video, really like the start -> finish style. I’d been thinking of doing similar when I can get these models , scraping off the shield symbol and using it as a canvas.

You somehow made them look even more like the DC Comics character Steel than they already do. Well done.
A lot of great ideas in this video! I've only built 5 of these from the Dominion set in the classic gold and blue and I'm not a fan so I stopped working on them until I find something I like. I like the idea of denting these up as they do look too new to be on a a battlefield. I also like the idea off getting rid of the shield emblam and I possibly will get rid of the lightning on the pauldrons. I found a Krylon brand 1401 bright silver that I experimented on with my Necrons so I might try that on these for a base coat. It is very metallic so I noticed that a few coats are required for any other basing colors. I also found a sallet helmet 3D .stl that I might try since I'm nopt really a fan of the normal helms.
Totally inspired now to paint my stormcast grim dark.

I don't play AoS, but I love the designs for the Stormcast Eternals. I have recently bought a box of ten Vanguard Hunters. Turned five of them into Space Marines and I will paint the other ones to sell on ebay. Wasn't sure about what colour scheme to do for them, but your video inspired me to do something more grimdark for them 😁
You should look into using enamel washes, Pete... Takes care of the wash, adds a nice mottled dirtiness and discoloration to the areas that you dont clean it off with white spirits... And once dried, you get a nice matte finish as well.

The hybrid video is great I wouldn't mind seeing them more. More complex ones could be done as a two parter

Really enjoyed this new format of conversion and painting guide in once! I have a question though regarding the last step with the varnish that protected the paintjob but dulled the sheen. How essential is this step? I'm thinking if you wanna keep that glossy sheen effect for your model if there's any alternatives or if you can just skip it?
you could just use another layer of the gloss varnish instead

This is another great conversion. Make that simple tilt-shield is a smashing idea. I'd have thought that apply the ground paste to the base, and then glueing on the mini, while the paste was still wet, would have made that stage a bit easier?
You should do an overgrown Storm Eternal, like with super mossy armour that was once gold with vines and things hanging off the spear, that would be an awesome conversion to do and the gold+green from the moss and vines would make such a nice contrast to the figure
It would be better described as a roundel, or better still a Besagew.
Roundels and Besagews were designed to cover the armpit gap in medieval armour.

/ Ad Mech to be Dark Mechanicus. I loved the Iron Warriors cultist conversion and I think that you could do a lot by loosely adapting that style.

I'm still not a big fan of them as a whole but at least it doesn't seem like this one will just be used for the bits box like all the others to me
I've been doing the same with my Custodes although more with a brownish yellow which I wipe off to leave in the recesses before going for really bright highlights on some of the exposed areas. Don't think I could bring myself to dent or chip their armour though. Custodes might get dirty, but they're never scruffy.
