I’ve watched so many of these on Dust, but this one really stuck with me. Not only because it shows how lucky we are to live on this beautiful blue marble full of life in a cold, dead universe, but it also reminds me that if we united as a species, we could become Type 3 civilization and actually master the galaxy. There should be a sense of urgency to become interplanetary species before we’re wiped out by a Great Filter. Unfortunately, too many of us are still tribal people, ignorant of the big picture.
100% agree. we got this tribe of baby pp cutting psychos running around lying about literally everything and it's insane i'm the bad guy for pointing out how obviously wrong it all is. you know who i'm talking about and why i can't name them.
Would you mind explaining what a great filter is?
@@awesomeawesome8350 A Great Filter is something that possibly explains the Fermi paradox, meaning basically, where is all the other life in the universe? Isaac Arthur has some really good content on UA-cam about Great Filters and the Fermi Paradox.
We will eventually become a Type 3 Civilization, and the good news is we'll have the ability to bring you back or something close to what you were to read this post and say WOW, we are a Type 3 Civilization.
Only issue to become a Type 3 Civilization is the hard limit of the speed of light (or speed of causality). It doesn't seem like we can go beyond it, which would break all our dreams of space exploration.
I really liked how Lufo rolled the moon through space time fabric 😀

Us being alone is terrifying to me.
To me, the possibility of not being alone in this universe is absolutely breathtaking in the most positive way that I can express. I have a very hard time thinking that this is "terrifying". Why do we always assume that alien life is going to be violent? It seems to me that any alien life that is advanced enough to reach us would have graduated beyond violence long ago. You don't survive a Great Filter only to de-evolve back into archaic violence. The thought is completely absurd to me. 🧑💜👽

I used to be ok with that quote from Clarke, but now days I think its kinda pessimistic... both possibilities are great. If we are alone, then we have an entire universe or at least the small fraction we'll be able to visit over its total life time to do with as we want, to make the alien life we hoped to find ourselves... or if we arent alone, we still get to do all that (its a big place after all) and get to meet others along the way while doing it.
Although not being alone would be preferable.
Aliens don’t exist. What we believe to be aliens are actually demons. There’s a reason they smell like sulfur & if abducted, if you can utter the name of Jesus Christ, you’re returned immediately. Look up accounts of this. God/Jesus Christ said that He died once, for everyone. With that being said, if He created life elsewhere, that means that He’d have to die for them on their planets. It’s just us & the supernatural; God/Jesus Christ, angels & demons. If you believe in aliens; life on other planets, then you don’t believe in God/Jesus Christ the way you should. My suggestion? Start reading the Holy Bible. You’ll get so you need out of that. Genesis 1 covers Super String Theory. Watch Weirdbeard Ministries on Genesis 1.
Well -- I'm a trained Astronomer, Geographer and since my teen days in the 80s a huge fan of Douglas Adams. There is no escape for me: I can't help but loving this movie! Bravo! I especially love the end... small step. There is so much packed into this short little gem. Well done.
Totally agree! And I am a simple retired nurse who's been an amateur science-maniac my whole life. I am enchanted by anything that helps us build ourselves up as a species, yet I worry that we spend far more on exploration than we do on solving our own problems as segregated, megalomanic, climberd who walk tight little circles of us-vs-them. It's gotten so out of control that even our leaders can't see past the ends of their noses (Yes, I am an American, can you tell? 🤪)
This was a wonderful movie and it gives me hope for our society as a whole. We, on the side of science, have nothing but hope for the future!

I don't have the slightest clue how many Dust videos I have watched. But this one is the best I've ever seen. The creator took a simple, unappreciated, and mostly unknown scientific fact that the Moon's stabilizing effect on the Earth allowed life to exist, and then made a film that it all happened because of a naughty smart kid decided to take the day off. What a video.

So the earth and moon were created by a skinny teenager with an attention deficit and sub-par knowledge of science compared to his peers who got tired of making rings but thought a double helix looked really cool. I can buy this - explains a lot.

I have watched this short film many times. I just love it! The concept, the storyline, the humour and the character of Lufo. Nice to see an uplifting take instead of the usual dystopian one.
One of the most wonderful movies I've ever seen. Lufo is such a sweet positive and inspirational character, it's magical. I'm hoping Eric Law Anderson will make a sequel or a full length film! I absolutely love this fantastic story! What a gem!
I wonder if they will make a video on how genders don’t & never can change from male to female & vice versa no matter the surgeries performed because chromosomes are impossible to change?

I find it interesting... humans are really drawn to the idea that there is purpose and meaningful design in things. It's not wonder that deep down, many struggle with the idea that we are an impossibly improbable series of millions of accidents.
@NappyHeaded_ZeroCombs Could be. But if we were a series of mistakes... it seems the mistakes were done extremely deliberately... in which case... were they mistakes or were they carefully planned. I love the start of this video... the moon is unusually large. It’s a pattern... one of millions of patterns that are just too perfectly designed to be ignored. I know people don’t like the “d” word when it comes to anything that humans didn’t do, but it’s hard to suspend disbelief and ignore the evidence as well.
The one who follows the herd is never remembered of. No two DNAs are the same and it's our calling to be Unique😊
It was one of the first Dust movies I saw and loved it, great to see it again, it still makes me smile. And thanks to Lufo that we are here. :-)

Hands down one of the best short vids ever. Takes me back to when I watched "Time Bandits" back in the late seventies . What a great wholesome story. I am a drop of water in the ocean of time.
Just freaking wow... This reminds me so much of the Dust Sunday night that we have missed for so long. You know it's good when you start watching it and wishing it was real even though you know it's not..... This felt like hope and the dreams yet to happen., thank you for giving us back the dust we have missed so much.

My God!! By far MOST beautiful animation I have seen in my life. Goosebumps all the way. I bow down to the talent of those awesome humans behind this work. This can and dare I say has to be made into a full feature film. LOVE!!
I discovered this wonderful short film by recommendation from a sci fi novel site on Facebook just a few days ago and already watched it for the third time - I'm rooting so much for Lufo but for mom and dad and his brothers too :D That's what I call brilliant storytelling and character building - also love the production design and the music and all the witty lines and references. Those just a little more than 15 minutes get me more invested than 2hr long and dreary Hollywood train wrecks with a bunch of pointless characters and stories that even kindergarten kids would find insulting for their intelligence . I admit I loved the fart sounds of the messed up asteroid, though and even godlike spacetime engineers are beings with their quirks - which makes them so loveable
I return to this nugget of unadulterated genius, each time it pops up in my notifications.
It's become like an old friend, who's company delights me.
I have watched The Looking Planet several times. I never tire of it. I know I will enjoy it many, many, times again. Many thanks to the creators

In some long-ago story, it was when humans were discovered by metallic being who communicated by radio waves. Their big surprise was when they discovered that we communicated by slapping pieces of meat together.
As I'm re-watching this for the fourth or fifth time, it's full moon and I'm looking at Lufo's creation with the biggest smile :)

This is one of my absolute favorite films. The way Lufo and his family seem just like us although they are so much more. The entire concept is amazing. The ending connects us all to that first creature that stepped out of the water onto land. Everything we are was reflected in its eyes.
This DUST short is SUPER under appreciated. One of the best. Thank you ✨

Having the “one small step…” recording for the first stepping out of the water is an amazing scene
This could quite possibly be the best 16 minutes and 5 seconds of my entire life. I'm blown away in so many ways that I can't even begin to express, but I'll try. #1 The visuals are transcendentally rapturous, I have never seen anything like it, except for in my dreams. #2 The concepts are so deliciously deep, that you've come around full circle. I am convinced you are enlightened, and could possibly be a deity of some kind. Seriously, I've watch this about 10 times now, and every time is just as blissful as the last, truly inspirational. I could talk for days about what's going on in this film, so I'm going to stop now, before I take up the entire internet. Truly amazing work! 😍😄👍

I drifted away from Dust a couple of years ago, but this masterpiece brought me back. It's beautifully made, charming, witty, and rather sweet. One of the best, IMHO.

I remember watching the original a few years back, this video is what got me subscribed to dust in the first place. Its a beautiful story and the aspect of our species and life being created in this way leaves a lot to think about. Thanks so much for all these great shorts.

This was an amazing short film!
I'm just gonna say though... the Earth-Moon system is not a double planet system. The center of mass between the two objects sits within the Earth's mantle.

@@niallfyfe5731 lol... but is Pluto a planet and what about that bugger that rolls around it's orbit and the other one that spins backwards? I presume they all orbit in the same direction except those blasted trans Neptuniums. Heard the other day that Jupiter was once our double star but went nova about 12 billion years ago and Jupiter is the ashes of the war between the Titans or something. Wouldn't surprise me at all. Fiction can't hold a candle to truth. I have faith in Lufo.

For me, the best DUST short ever.. there are few close, but this is by far the best ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Outstanding detailing, beautifully presented story, beautifully presented characters ; and at the same time, it's so relatable to humans wrkng for a project at present.. "It could have been this way and we sure hope that this is how it all began, the beautiful creativity of a God level alien trainee engineer who so perfectly placed the moon so that life can thrive" - this is how it makes you think ..

all of the films highlighted on dust show the amazing work of mostly independent artists.
it's the very few with positive story lines such as 'the looking planet' which which keeps me subscribed and makes wading through the overwhelming number of films focused on violence and horror worth the effort. what we find entertaining is personal and i'm not pushing my preferences on others - you do you - though if i was interested in horror and violence, i'd get it from the news, not content masquerading as science fiction (and yes, star trek (though not so much the recent movies) over star wars)

Just watched this for the first time last night and loved everything about it. Most Dust vids look like they are supposed to have a sequel to wrap things up but never are made so I rarely watch the channel anymore.
I would love to see this turned into a series. I can't get enough of this one.

The artwork & animation look so magical! That writing at the start said that, without the moon, there'd be no life on earth. It looked like Lufo created the moon by compacting the rings around earth together. Great story.
this is incredibly good. wow. this needs a full theatrical release. mindblowing effects, and so well put together.
I'm a sci-fi author (9 published, 10th is in final edit, working on the 11th) and I think this is THE BEST short video you've made -- the music score fits perfectly and coupled with the visuals, is quite moving. Growing up I watched every Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space mission, and your inclusion of the early amphibious animal coming up out of the water onto a shoreline with Armstrong's voice-over, zooming in on the critter's eye and going right to Apollo 11 heading for the moon with that choice of music...wow. If I can ever get to where I can hire someone to make a story related video for me, you folks are at the top of my list. It's still as moving as it was the first time I watched it. A big "BRAVO-ZULU" to you on this short!

It is as Probable as any other Probability 😅
I can't agree that the moon's stabilization of the earth's axial tilt allowed earth to have more complex life forms than it would otherwise, as the movie claims. The evidence shows that life been set back repeatedly by cosmic collisions - which are much quicker and unpredictable than the slow shifting of the earth's axis. After each collision, the surviving life forms have become more complicated. It is the hard knocks which have led to complexity, not the long, lazy periods of stability.
This is a subtle but good point. I agree. But you do need both. It's the combination of stable periods followed by short dramatic changes which have led to greater complexity. However, the prologue is necessarily limited to focus on what is essential to the meaning of the story. Thanks for the comment.

Alternative theory: the human race in the far future(those aliens) after mastering quantum mechanics came to the past to construct a more perfect universe, but the stupid alien boy ruins it, thus creating a pattern in which man becomes god and then creates itself, never ending mistake just like human thoughts

Amazing work!!!, this should be a series of independent shorts but in the same plot and context, or a movie if that's the case, this is a very underrated short
Definitely some Douglas Adams influences in there. Utterly enjoyable! Especially how the story is told, from the perspective of a child. Very original and uplifting. And as far as the science is concerned: this is just as good an explanation as any other :-)

@GP 1962 what a pointless statement. That's that govern us only hold meaning because we give them meaning, can be changed at will and evolve as what society considers acceptable changes.
The laws of gravity or photosynthesis don't change at will they're cast in stone. Even then what you're saying makes no sense. There is absolutely no relation between them.
