One of the issues with short films in general, NOT ALL, but especially when it's low budget, new filmmakers etc.. is that everyone wants to make that serious dramatic thought provoking short that really holds a mirror up to ....... blah blah blah ... but somewhere along the way we forgot to be entertained. This was entertaining. And didn't take itself too serious. THANK GOD. Very well done guys. 👍

From the overly paranoid dude to ordering the helmet and the drone trying to identify him, how in tarnation did I not see that coming! Everything in movies has a purpose, especially in short films! You guys got me good. Well played. Great cgi and acting, costumes and sets. Solid 9 out of 10.

I wonder how they managed to shoot the scene of bullets trashing the place though? Low power rounds? Camera trick? It has been a while since I went through basic but I did remember going full auto with 5.56, you can't really "sweep" the place, for one, 30 rounds only lasts about 3 seconds and controlling the recoil means that your shots end up landing in a basketball sized zone and drifts upwards rather than sideways. And the idea of shooting that many 5.56 in a confined room gives me the hebegebees, no telling when a ricochet is going to bounce back at you. So... low power rounds from a weaker weapon? Or something else?

This is just perfect in every way - I am a proud Southerner born and raised and I have known dozens of guys like the Everyman Hero protagonist here. The film reveals this side of the American spirit honestly, but without the rancor so often heaped upon these guys. Just as it should be.
I really enjoyed this send up of the prepper mentality (it duly notes that there's gold in them thar prepper marketing hills). I enjoyed the acting and extremely effective FX. An A+ for me.

I expected the delivery from the moment the order was made. A further irony could have been that, instead of it being a mind protection helmet, it was actually a mind control device.
I love the point of view shots on the part with the guy shooting all those guns at the drone, spaceship or whatever it is. Well done. LOVE the ending! You folks did a GREAT job!
I'm glad you liked this particular entry.. but I must point out.. all the filmmkers who present their work here are, I am sure, doing their very best with the resources and skill levels they have at the time of production. To subjectively say this one is more "creative" to any other does a great disservice to the content that doesn't appeal to your tastes or meet your standards. I'm sure in the many films you've made you've noticed just how difficult it can be to even get a finished product to a screen.. let alone be good enough to be selected to be streamed on Dust.
This short made me laugh so hard. It was "spamazing" on many levels, and made my day so much better on many levels. I'll be smiling every time I think about this short film. The headline scrolling on the TV was a nice touch about the weather abnormalities and gravity engines. That was a nice touch with a little foreshadowing. Really appreciated the "Spamazon" with the limp d++k logo. I sketched that out in a doodle years ago. Thanks for bringing it back!
A satirical illustration of modern consuming facilities and the possible unsuspected backlash which might go along with them ... I truly love the comedian impersonating the ex-service man gone paranoid , the derision of his frantic but pointless wild and desperate struggle and the final gag of the drone delivery service which acts less as a relief for poor Rick James than as a banana skin treacherously dropped under his feet !!!! Frederick Brown a science -fiction writer remembered for the dark humor and irony he used in his short stories to fustigate both human gullibillity and foolisnness would have loved your script - just as much as I did !!!!!
Absolutely loved this. From him taking a swig from his spit bottle ( I have seen that happen ) to destroying his home. Remember, if a droid kind enough to ring the doorbell then chances are you are not a danger, except from yourself ;-)

If you are really prepared then there is no need for all out panic with no reason or logic, just straight up manic. This is how most of the preppers are. No solar powered cameras with their own network, so he does not need to actually look outside. Also he is destroying his shelter without waiting to see what his opponent is going to do.
Actually, most preppers have the best solar power setups money can buy, and would never shoot without clear target identification. Get out of your city, drive to the country and meet some. Most will offer a cup of coffee and a slice of homemade pie.
@emptyCanFilms Well, I have to say, I really enjoyed this. Wasn't sure what to expect at the beginning. I do a bit of visual effects but this really looked good. In fact, if I were to guess, it was a combination of effects and some actual shooting. I'd be very curious about that in particular - a behind the scenes would be nice. Almost looks like you got hold of a house that was maybe going to be destroyed that they let you use. Great work!

The original 1990 'Tremors' movie (and the scene with preppers Burt & Heather in their underground rec room) is a great favourite of mine - so I absolutely LOVED this! 🤣
the chewing tobaccy was great. the cowboy boot thing was over the top. First DUST that did not have a 2-frame, artsy-fartsy, blip ending. this was the best. bravo.

I've seen 560 DUST Sci-Fi movies and your's the best. A perfect parody of American scared mind, with perfect acting, scenario, special effect and filming.

This was OK, and gave me a laugh at the end, but... "FTL" literally brought tears to my eyes at the conclusion. If by some chance you haven't seen it...SEE IT!

Third or fourth time I've watched this. I'm still laughing. This time I listened very closely to the music soundtrack. Excellent. It is hard to believe that there is only one actor onscreen, But I know he's got a great team behind him. Good work, everybody.
