Catching 5 Species of Fish in 15 Minutes!!! Catch and Release

  • After catching my limit of lingcod on a charter boat a few days ago, I wanted to go fishing again. Since I have so many frozen fish in my freezer I decided today would be a catch and release day. I wanted to scout a new spot and tried to find my way down, but every turn I took the cliff was too sheer. Once I gave up looking for a new fishing spot, I drove over to another spot that I haven't been to in years.
    ...
    Fishing was very slow for hours until the tide changed. I used squid as bait on a hand tied hi-lo right without the high on 50lb fluorocarbon because I forgot my mono and leaders in the car! I ended up catching 6 fish in 20 minutes. Two brown rockfish, 2 different types of perch, and two kelp greenlings male and female. No cabezon or lingcod today, but overall great catch and great day!
    ...

    I fell down a cliff in Marin County. I was 26 and stoned on pot. The Coast Guard had to rescue me from a helicopter. I had a hemo-pneumothorax. (Collapsed lung caused by blood in the pleural cavity) I also broke most of my ribs and left shoulder. Don't take chances. I spent a week in the hospital with tubes in my chest. I'm lucky to be alive.

    Can't wait till the spring and summer!!!

    Hey Matts, I believe that the dark kelp greenlings are males, and the light ones are fe-males. Those fish are real nice. That's a real good way to tie leaders. Congratulations on catching those giant ling cod and cabizon on the charter boat. I haven't caught fish like those in years. I usually cut my squid into chunks like you did. It does work the best. Cheers! Keith

    On Lake Erie, we call holding the fish by the mouth chinning it. Very hand for maintaining control of an energetic one. For the toothy ones, like Walleye, I always have a big plastic tool like pliers which has about a 3/4" spike in the upper jaw. Please, please tell us about the new boat and motor.

    • @CL-rm6sb
      @CL-rm6sb 4 роки тому

      Rock greenling is a different species entirely and not the one he caught. There are multiple different types of greenlings (even a lingcod is a type of greenling), from painted to rock to kelp, etc. The fish he caught was a female kelp greenling. The males are darker brown red with blueish spots.
