Nah, because you can cycle variants back and forth. WNt variant 3? Select gun, hit q. ShotgunswPping with the alt in your loadout? No problem. Have 2 shotguns, and cycle E,Q,E,Q. Bring able to swap vatiants backwards is unitonically the best change in the patch. It's super great quality of life.
The alt shotgun is the Pile Bunker of Ultrakill. Change my mind. (For those who don't know The pile bunker is weapon from the game Armored core 6 Fires or Rubicon. It is basically a big glorified poking stick)
pilebunkers are a general mecha concept thats been around since votoms & super robot wars, Lost Planet 2 from 2010 is another videogame with a cool pilebunker weapon
Actually though this has got to be one of the best feeling weapons in the entire game. I can't even BEGIN to describe how GOOD it feels with the brief freeze right as you fire, followed by a massive *BOOM* and just see your enemies OBLITERATED in an instant. Literally awesome
Thank god whiplash cancels will hopefully become more mainstream. Using whiplash in tiny bursts sacrifices almost no speed and lets you keep almost all of your health without it becoming hard damage.

i have now used this technique on gabriel, minos, and sisyphus. Its REALLY good, it does so much damage when you have all 3 alt shotguns and switch between them. Although, it's hard to get used to not regular shotgun swap parrying.

A red-gauge jackhammer hit on a mindflayer, plus a 4x alt-piercer ultraricoshot, is enough to kill. That might seem difficult to set up, but if you angle your jackhammer to launch you directly upwards, you can easily launch four coins directly above yourself, and freely hit them with the piercer beam. The mindflayer will follow you into the sky, essentially guaranteeing that it will be targeted by the coins. It's a very quick, safe, and efficient kill. One of my favorite techs.
this thing is so WEIRD man, it's so damn funky I really like the little intended grenade combo with the blue alt, it's so satisfying for some reason, even if my brain can't comprehend it half the time for some reason The pump makes the shockwave bigger which is... interesting but I don't see the use of it over just using knuckle blaster same goes for the overpump for it, the delay messes with my head since I'm already too used to the normal shotgun overpump
I haven’t used it enough to be sure, but this alt seems really good for people that spam whiplash, especially against sentries and virtues, but I’d probably only have it equipped for the sawed on so you could still shotgun swap
i’ve used whip cancelling to repurpose those green hook points as blue ones, if you let go before you hit them you go right through. now this tech has some actual good use, finally
It seems to keep the tradition of a shotgun being the main weapon and has some interesting points to concider. Its a big damage tool that requires you to be in melee range and a tad situational. It might be useful to squeeze out extra damage with with the rocket launcher, though firestarter may need a little buff in order to make this more worth using in some cases.
whip cancelling can also work with green grabbing points to simulate a weaker blue point or use it to change your direction, it should be used more tbh

That's the only knack I have with this way of killing Virtues or sentries, but I guess it's a byproduct of the whiplash. Worth a try.
a disadvantage this video unintentionally highlights about this gun is the fact that the recoil means you don't actually heal off the riskier close-range kills you get. shotguns are comparatively not just good for damage but are also by far your best option for quick healing too. it's probably not wise to switch fully unless you know what you're doing and know what to expect
There's just one note I'd like to add: this tech is way more effective if the knuckleblaster or feedbacker is used to cancel the whiplash. Otherwise, great video.
seeing how far you get launched i can see alot of time saves in that final P-2 area, you can completely clean out all of the sentries in that final room if you time and align yourself well enough
i found a technique that kinda is precise, but ONESHOTS MOST ENEMIES. (other than bosses and minibosses, still does massive damage) 1. Activate saw 2. Make sure you're in the yellow, and hold your m1 3. As soon as you get almost close (like a husk away from them), use the knuckleblaster's punch. If you have done all of these steps correctly, say goodbye to sentries, maurices, swordmachines, cerberi, guttermen, guttertanks, and much more.
Did some quick and dirty testing. Method was to hit a high HP enemy in the body and then finish them off with standard revolver shots. All tests done both on Cerberus & Ferryman to make sure there are no special modifiers (at least for these enemies). - Base damage is 3, and charge levels 2/3 add 3/9 damage (so 3/6/12) - A single pump added 3 damage, 2 pumps did nothing (at least no extra damage, could be adding a larger AoE to the blast), while the explosion from 3 pumps is 7 damage - The main fire can be used to launch core ejects and rockets, effectively making them hitscan, and rockets launched this way generate a red explosion
slam double pump is enough to get you high enough in the air to take down an entire early CG wave or two with just the slab marksman, very good strategy for reaching the wave 20 checkpoint your first time CGing on brutal

damn sick tech, it was pretty tough to slam storage around 10 billion enemies in brutal mode. now to find someone who found a practical use for the sawed-on...
i'm not very good at using it yet but the sawed-on seems to thrive in large groups of enemies. each enemy it hits also slows it down, giving you more time to use other weapons while you wait for it to come back. the main weakness i think is the lack of range, making it dangerous to use in said crowds where it does the most damage.
Currently it is bugged in a way that can trivialize bossfights. It sometimes gets wifi and just hits the boss no matter where they are. Though i'm sure that'll be patched soon and real tech will be figured out soon enough too. Until then it can serve as another projectile in the saw trap.
I thought I'd find more use from the core eject version but I found it a little too niche to put into my playstyle. Core nukes are too useful and easy compares to what you can manage with this. But I'm keeping the green and red variant. Green for cracked damage (the overpump on stage 3 is insane) and the double melee weapon with the saw.
Fun fact, the alt shotgun can parry most melee attacks with precise timing. If you make sure both hits are parries, it can two-shot a normal Swordsmachine on Violent.

I’ve actually done the same thing. Being able to quick cycle the blue and green variants to kill Maurices is super useful.
I found that I like having the blue as alt since you can use the red one for pro-boosting. The core-boost has some wacky tech

A dash jump can also get you Stage 3 if you wait about a half second after jumping. Useful if you don't wanna use the Whiplash

A neat detail is that the alt shotgun looks like it might technically be the third arm or atleast an arm mod

Just wanted to add that the pump will 2 shot Mindflayers if you pump it twice before hitting. You can also pump while its cooling down which is neat.

You can get consistent stage 3 hits if you dash jump at an enemy too
U can whip cancel with the knuckle blaster to cause even more damage with the shockwave, and even the initial punch will land if u time it right
