John was funny, but honestly I don't think he gave very accurate impressions. Like he's not exactly _wrong_ about Stevie Nicks, but given what he said, you're still not going to understand 80% of references to her. Like yeah, frustrated mom playing her music in the car is true. Weirdo sorceress vibe is true. But from his account you wouldn't know that she was a legit rock star first. Cover of Rolling Stone multiple times legit. To '60s and '70s kids, she's someone who is cool and who it's cool to like. Most of his other answers are similarly one-faceted accounts. Funny though.
Jennifer Vasquez. You know, that's actually a bit fucked up on your part. What...do you speak English with a heavy accent as well? It's really dumb that you grew up in such a cultural bubble. You should rage at your parents for their neglect to assimilate you into the America that surrounded you. Most American pop culture figures are well-known internationally as well. This would also go beyond the anglosphere.

I was going to say that! It’s the outfit Tan picked out!

It's so attractive

💯
Safi Ullah Khan he’s gen x so it’s awesome
Richard Dweck I think technically he’s early millennial, most places start millennials at 1980-2 and he was born in 82
@@jennifermcardle6029 yeah, he's about my age, born around or just after 80. read somewhere recently that some are starting to call us xennials? like a micro-generation between Gen X and Millenials, because we don't really fit in with either one. we've just always been lumped in with people either slightly older or slightly younger than us.
@@jennifermcardle6029 that's so surprising to me, he has such mid-40s energy
The nervousness in John Mulaney’s face when Hasan had his phone 😂 omgggg

I need a full netflix special of john mulaney explaining important figures in american pop culture cause as a first gen chicana i also dont understand who most figures are or their importance and id like to be in the know
It was weird af during that point in time where a bunch of these figures where dying n everyone was really sad about it n i had never even heard of most of them
Jennifer Vasquez 😂
I haven't heard of most of them, but I don't live in the US either so 😅
John was funny, but honestly I don't think he gave very accurate impressions.
This would also go beyond the anglosphere.

can we just appreciate the fact John Mulaney called up reception so people won't send Hasan Alcohol
No I believe other people probably did send Hasan alcohol (he can't very well stop them from sending it) but John just wanted to be sure to send up a gift Hasan could actually use/appreciate.

@@xx___x
I am trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, and say maybe she meant to say "don't act so young because it can come off as weird, in this day and age, to some people." but it came out "it seems weird" Especially if they don't know him.
The hesitation before she said "weird," and the instant regret of her choice of words makes it seem like she just kindof didn't know how to phrase it on the spot.
I myself was kindof like wtf? about the sack lunch bunch at first, but it's pretty wholesome to be trying to help the younger generation and give kids some relatable or healthy role models. M. Rogers type stuff idk. I'll withhold my judgment for now.
@@i-love-comountains3850 I feel like she was maybe just giving general "advice" to 37 year olds? Cause John's whole vibe tends to be older then he actually is. Aqilah Nasir ah, ok. I knew I heard the name somewhere.
British comedian Michael McIntyre regularly does this on his show with celebrities too, except he sends some weird-ass text to everyone in the person's contacts (often including like the builder that did their bathroom renovation last year). The episodes are on UA-cam, the bit is called Send to All.
Mulaney always sounds like a 40s baseball commentator. It's a treat.
The answer to all the kids’ questions about “why this person..?” was:
Baby boomers.
tuvoksg1 Welcome to my life as a Gen-Xer. It’s always about what Baby Boomers are into. 🙄
The only ppl these kids asked about were baby boomer era actors and musicians. Why didn't they ask about any gen x entertainers? Because they weren't as memorable or popular.
Also the baby boomers made some of the Best classic rock music produced. It's Still popular worldwide and used in movies for soundtracks/backgrounds.
