CROSSING BORDER with Rare Coral!!

- It is no secret that the "Weeping Willow" leather coral is one of the most sought after soft coral at the moment. There are different morphs out on the market but this particular strand of Japanese Weeping Willow from the Canadian reefer Josh (@rapfrog on Instagram) has got to be one of the most impressive that I have seen! Knowing that I have a Toronto trip coming up with the family, I reached out to Josh to see if he would be willing to part with a frag...

Inappropriate Reefer: what about the homework
Inappropriate Reefer is a Boy Scout😆 even his wife is like “be cool” lmao
CANADA baby!!! 🍁
Heck yeah! Amazing food, amazing people, amazing Asian Arowana!
i really admire people like you who take the rules very seriously and really try their best to do the right thing. it is a strong sign of someone with integrity... with that being said.. put the coral in the trunk, and leave a bag of oranges in the back seat. the officer will get a nice mid afternoon treat, and you can get all the corals you want! lol
lol, is that the secret to a smooth border crossing?
What an experience! Thanks for sharing 👌🏻
😂 your wife’s expression, star of the show 😂
This video really makes me appreciate my internal combustion engine.
What a helpful video!
Glad to hear it! 🙏
Your definitely my favourite tuber to watch atm mate keep it up
Thank you!!
Great Vid!!
Thanks for bringing this into Canada man!
Happy to see it spread! Now if you'd just take back the fallouts from the wild fires... 😂
@@InappropriateReefer Gonna have to hit rapfrog up he has a lot of nice corals. ya it's been crazy the last few days. I'm in southern Ontario and it just smells like a camp fire and is super hazy.
Man those tan tarts look delicious
Oh you know what's up.
So amazing ❤ Cada vídeo lindo, cada coral muito bonito, parabéns pelos seus vídeos. Sou do Brazil 🎉
I watched this with my wife and she completely can relate to your wife 😂
lollll!! I can't believe your wife actually watches reefing videos with you. Mine would never! (except for maybe Aquarium Info & Coralfish12g)
Also that 3D art behind your tank looks sick! You should show us a close up
I wish the next Bahama lama frag will come to the middle east if u pass by Dubai I would love to get a frag of it and for sure I can swipe it with another interesting coral
Ooh flying w/ a soft coral internationally would be a fun next-step challenge!
Next time in canada should go see Fragbox corals.
Best place to buy corals in Canada.
Nice filled tank. The Japanese deep water neon green is the one to have. I have both the Indonesian and Japanese versions.
Curious how the Indonesian ones look, I'll google!
Glad to hear that your flatworm problem is gone. Another great video!
Also how many gallons is that tank, its definitely bigger that a 120, maybe even a 200?
the display supposedly holds 135g, I am guessing the sump around 35; total + displacement is probably a wash. I have just been counting it as 135g
@@InappropriateReefer And you have managed to make it look twice as big as my 120. Beautiful tank, great job!
Dude…as a frequent Canada/US border crosser myself..my advice is to NEVER divulged or say anything other than what they ask.
LoL. I literally face palmed at the part when they waved you through but you spoke up about needing to declare something. Man no!
I get that you wanted to it right and all..but you’ll learn in time…it seldom pays to divulge or give more information than what’s asked.and it can cause real headaches.
In fact…I have a “Denied Entry” now because I volunteered that I was also going to help my Dad with some tile work.
(A Denied Entry is permanent red flag on customs systems and now causes me major delays every time I pass through US customs at airport when flying from Canada to US).
Great content though. Cheers
Thanks for the heads up! What, how does going to the US to help with some family tile work caused a denied entry?! Is it not OK for Canadian to cross the border even for actual work in the US? (asking because that's one of my potential master plan too if push comes to shove... live in Canada but keep my work in the US by crossing the border each day, lol)
@@InappropriateReefer No prob bud.
Yes like you mentioned, much is up to the individual border agent.
I can only assume that by law any mention of performing any unauthorized work qualifies for a Denied Entry.
I was going down to golf..and stupidly I also volunteered that was also going to help my Dad with some tile work in bathroom. (Parents only lives 30min away from me, but in US)
Agent said “well, we can’t have you taking a job away from US citizens. I told him my Dad was either doing it alone or with my help..so no job American job lost. But it didn’t matter.
I didn’t think it was worth contesting..and only realized the issues the next time a flew out of Vancouver for my daughters first flight and trip to Disneyland. To make is extra special I got business class tickets so we could have breakfast in Air Canada lounge first…but because of the red flag..we all had to instead go and spend next hour waiting in queue at customs to get green lit to travel. Ugh. And was told that would happen every time because of the denied entry record on system.
Btw. I used to live in US and had green card..but when going to college in Canada..I spent a few days past 6mos without returning to US..and it got revoked.
Hope you’re able to find a way to make things work..probably just takes the proper amount of homework and maybe immigration law assistance.
Thanks and Cheers.
@@Val_Halla777 Man, sorry to hear about your rough run-ins with both the USCIS and the border agent. That border agent sounds like a dick, and I don't use that term lightly.
WRONG. While you can import soft coral into Canada, it is mandatory to declare. Even if they don't ask, if you fail to declare it can be confiscated/fined. So, your risk if you don't want to say anything but I don't understand why you wouldn't declare something you're allowed to have?
@@Val_Halla777 Sorry to hear about your problems, past, present & future 🤦🏻♂️ . . . Next time fly to Mexico and come through the southern border. Free perks: you’ll get a free cellphone, food and hotels for you and your family. Sad to see what this fake installed administration is doing which is ruining America & the world.
Thanks for the videos! Do you know how much par you have on the golden rod anacropora ? I also bought one but kinda stays light green and not as close to yellow as yours… i thought might be not enough light…
I have two clusters, the one in the middle of the tank sits under around 250 μmol/s; the one further back and down is around 180 μmol/s. Before the crash, my main cluster is under around 310 μmol/s. I also have a frag that sits under about 140 μmol/s and retained the same color. I suspect it may have to do with nutrients or trace elements since mine has been under different light intensity with similar coloration.
Can’t wait to see how that green one from Josh grows. It looks insane in his tank!
I'm also curious how Remy's Willow will grow in his tank, maybe Josh could coax even longer tentacles out. Also excited to see how Josh's fair in mine -- he was generous with his piece, I should have some to share in a few months!
@@InappropriateReefer me too! Should be fun to see. I know remys had all the characteristics but the polyps leaning over the when the flow was cut. Can’t wait to see Josh’s maybe hit all the check marks that remy was looking at in his weeping willow video.
Can’t wait for you to share that strain around the us. It’s an insane toadstool!
would love more vlogging videos please
Should have more coming, now that the pandemic is over and we begin traveling & interacting again!
@@InappropriateReefer can't wait looking forward too it
Wow that anemone has made some great progress
Definitely took on some size! Now if it'd just go into it's gold phase..
Such a stellar tank! Question about your anthias, how long did it take for him to fully transform to male?
i think it’s called palawan nepthea. from the palawan peninsula/ reef system in the philippines
I will double check, thanks for the heads up!
Palau, not from the Philippines. No typo.
@@Joshthereefer palau is a micronesian island. palawan is an island and peninsula in the philippines
@@MACNTOSFAM Yeah exactly. The Palau nepthea was collected on the reefs of the country Palau.
Hi Inappropriate Reefer, I have a question to ask you, my red mushroom is getting smaller and smaller, it used to be very big, what are the reasons causing it becomes so small?
Tricky, as sometimes my Jawbreaker goes through the same and I'd scratch my head. First thought is too much light? Other corals / anemone a bit too close? Hope others chime in as well to help debug.
Hi, where did u get the magnetic frag basket?? Thanks in advance
The BTA is looking very orange. Did it change colors or is it a lighting thing?
Outline in detail the euphyllia did for brown jelly disease please. Thank you.
I will be creating a video on my experience once the Wall Hammer fully recovers to it's former glory, but I will tell you that it stopped the BJD on first dip, and polyp started extending again one day 2. Here's the regiment that I followed almost completely (minus the heater & sponge filter; I just stir the container once in awhile): kungfucorals.com/blogs/news/the-kfc-dip-a-game-changer-in-keeping-healthy-euphyllia
Thank you. Much appreciated. I can keep them just so long, then for no reason I get polyp bailouts and brown jellies
@@InappropriateReefer Excellent! thank you so much!!!
Just know spirit will not let you fly with it at all just happened to me this week they don’t wanna take responsibility for any damage
Unrelated but how do you like the Tesla model Y I’m considering one. Thank you!
I love it as a car, the autopilot (free) was particularly impressive; though if your car has cruise control + lane assist, it's essentially the same thing. No quality control issue with the MY so far, however, we can't fast charge at home yet (only slow charge ~3x a week, townhouse with no garage), so charging is the major pain point. If you have a garage to charge at home, or could charge at work, it's a no brainer for me especially at the new price point. The minimalistic interior is very nice, and power at the wheels on demand (no lag, no shift) is something that I did not expect to like as much as I do. The ability for the car to "update" over the air is a nice surprise as I feel like the car is consistently improving, and not feel left out when new features drop.
@@InappropriateReefer Thank you so much for the reply!!! I’m sold. Btw congrats on the new corals 🔥
Welcome to Canada where I am from (Vancouver).
Pros for Canada:
- Free health care,
- Great Asian food if you're moving to Vancouver or Toronto (one of the best worldwide)
- People are general friendlier
- Safer,
- Corals are cheaper than US.
Cons for Canada:
- Real Estate is UNAFFORDABLE in Toronto or Vancouver!! Where are you going to put your reef tank? Real estate is expensive!
- High taxes; lower wages,
- People are obsessed with real estate,
- Not as many reef stores around,
- Canada doesn't have as many places to travel compared to US.
Oh you hit the nails on the head for us! (only think I'm not sure is the coral price, have not had a chance to check!) Since we (my wife) loves good Asian food, we were casually looking right outside the Richmond Hill / Markham area that's a bit more suburb and aiming for good school, but wow, the real estate cost is no joke over there...!! No sign of slowing down?
@@InappropriateReefer Policymakers in Canada are addicted to high home prices in Vancouver and Toronto. Every time home prices should be dropping in Canada, the opposite happens because our Canadian government doesn't want it to drop. The policies in Canada are made to drive up home prices. It's not likely to ever become affordable. You know how Americans are into the stock market? In Canada, Canadians are addicted to real estate prices. Richmond Hill and Markham are not cheap.
If you love Asian food, Vancouver and Toronto are very well known for it. Vancouver is supposed to have the second best sushi in the world next to Japan. Your wife will enjoy dining out in Greater Toronto since she loves Asian food but it's ridiculously expensive to live in GTA and GVA. You'll also notice corals are much cheaper in Canada however, there is much less selection.
@@sandyraymondlowewong9705 driving back down to the US, we passed by Mississauga and was blown away by some of the townhouses there with the lake view. Housing seems more reasonable there though it is quite a distance from Toronto (and mainly Markham aka amazing Asian food). The search continues. Thank you for the insight!
what type of antibiotics you used for the brown jelly?
Google for brown jelly kfc dip corals...👍
It's the KFC coral dipping method; Antibiotic-wise it's Cipro, Amoxicillin, ChemiClean, Lugol among other things. We're throwing the kitchen sink at them corals! 😬 Not sure if I mentioned it in the video, I also had to dip the Yellow Fiji Leather as the frags and mother colony went downhill fast after fragging. It was dicey even with dip, but after 3 days they totally pulled through and turned around.
Oh no he is doing that thing with his hair again
Wahaha, Covid Hair is back baby.
@@InappropriateReefer 😂😂
We all know you pawned her jewelry for corals 😂
Based, also based wife for allowing it
😂😂😂
Yes, become a Canadian and keep Asian Arowanas ;)
That, I am ashamed to admit, is actually one of a strong reasons that I would, lol! Would love to at some point in my life at least keep an Asian Arowana (basic RTG) for awhile.
Whats the maximum time spent for full charge?
I usually try to find the 250 kwh superchargers, while in Canada most of the ones I used have been 150. Off the top of my head most stops are around 20 minutes. That'd bring my battery from the 20-something range to 80something range. If it happens to be a nice stop, we may stay longer to charge it even more. One thing to keep in mind is that once the battery becomes fuller, the charge speed slows down, sometimes drastically. This is probably to free up the super chargers for more cars in need.
I watch every episode, are those ai blades I see?
Dude are your banggais ever gonna breed?! XD
It is amazing how apparently brilliant minds of Tesla have not launched Tesla diner/coffeeshops together with the charging stations - they'd make billions by selling food to people charging their cars. 🤔
I think they are absolutely doing it! At least in the US where I am (East Coast), Tesla seems to have partnered up with a lot of Royal Farm & Sheetz gas stations to install their chargers there. Fantastic idea because those shops are my favorite even when stopping during a road trip to gas up & grab drinks + snacks. Further north though the Tesla chargers seems to be at random places, sometimes even in garages that I would need to pay to get in.
Reason why no electric for me when traveling. Good ole burning fossils for that.
But city driving cant beat and electric car.
Sell me a yellow Fiji leather frag 🙏
Not quite yellow yet, at the moment is still kind of tan-ish... however, I can see the cut / healing area is a canary yellow so there is hope! Let me know if you are in the DMV area?
@@InappropriateReefer would you mind sharing again where you purchased the Fiji Leather from? thanks!
@@Cycnoches2012 funny story, I found this posted for sale on a local FB reef group. Turns out, the seller bought it from me a few years back when I still had my 45g cube tank. Although I don't quite remember where I got it from from back in the days..
Nice video but convinced me to never buy an electric car...
bro, you and i have a tons of things in common - Corals and saltwater fish ! but you and i have one thing different - EV, esp a Tesla ! Im unsubscribing. Jk brotha i wouldnt just bc you own a Tesla : )
