- The Weeping Willow Toadstool can now be seen at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium!
This episode was so much fun. Mostly because I got to check in with where some of the frags ended up and how they are doing today. I also very excited for the new GREEN long polyp toadstool. It'll be nice when I can get it into a proper spot on the reef and off the glass.

Your Weeping Willow is one of the most prized coral in my tanks! Aside from that, I'd say the Space Invader Pectinia is one of my constant favorites. Thank you for the frag and amazing to see your coral at the Shedd!!
Good choice with the Space Invader! Thanks for your help with this video!
Xenia 😂 guaranteed a crowd favourite too.
Oh heck yeah! Regular people: OOOOOO IT PULSES!
I have a neon green "weeping willow" that has been growing for years and is now the size of a softball glove. It's so nice, and the long tentacles in the flow are so mesmerizing.
I'd love to see it! That's huge!
@BahamaLlamaCoral Absolutely!! I'll send it via IG if it's okay. Waiting for my lights to turn on. When it's fully open, I'll send it over.
@@BahamaLlamaCoral Just sent the photo on IG!
Inappropriate Reefer...that noise in your basement isn't me sneaking in for a frag. Nope. Not me. 🙂 Ah...that trip out west. The Jack In The Box parking lot RV pickup was my one and only Bahamallama in-person sighting. Need to fix that!
I mean, I'm gonna be in DC tomorrow -Friday late afternoon sooooooooooooooo
lets get to 20k!!! we need to unlock this giveaway!!! woot woot!!! awesome videos as always by the way lol
Very soon!
My Favorite right now is my red favia coral with yellow eyes. It's mounding up nice and the red flesh is super fluffy. Its really cool.
Favia are definitely underrated for sure!
I love my long polyp toadstool! Now I’m going to have to find a weeping willow!!
May our search be bountiful!
Leather coral are slept on. Filling a tank with a bunch of the less common varieties is definilty in my future.
Very slept on! I wish we saw them more at frag swaps!
Great video! I feel internet famous now. You definitely need to visit Jason and get a good tour in. I think I took up 3-4 hours of his work day last time I was there.
For sure! Thank you Tim for muling the goods. You don't need to be internet famous when you're already a celebrity.
I am fond of Goni and toadstool. Love the channel Remy
Thanks for watching Tammy!
Toadstool coral is hands down my favourite coral of all time. Great video!
You always rubbing this coral in my face lmao. I was in town for work and stopped by that LFS before flying back home. I ended up going with a few other things, but I always regretted not buying that toadstool...then I found your channel and heard you say you were STL based and knew you'd grabbed that same one I was frequently thinking about. I'm glad that you have it though, it's been a great representation of your channel.
From Art of Aquaria?!
@@BahamaLlamaCoral Yeah haha. Love that store, one the favorites I've been to in the country. Not huge but it's got a great great vibe and is in the middle of a neighborhood.
Remy I did The Shedd back in August 2022 with my amazing son. I was a little disappointed with the small size and number of coral displays. I really liked the SPS frag tank display with MHs and MRC skimmer. I hope you got some VIP treatment for your coral and I’ll be looking forward to seeing it next time I’m in Chicago.
Aquariums have to cater to the masses (for the most part) and unfortunately, there aren't too many people that are interested in the coral part. We have that same issue at our small aquarium here in STL. There's only 1 major coral tank...people like sharks. lol.
@@BahamaLlamaCoral Yes, sharks are a gas. Hopefully it will be just a matter of time before the masses discover corals.
Duncan's have always had a special place in my heart!
One of my first corals!
Blue cloves and purple star polyps are relaxing for me
Black sun coral is my favorite but I also really love GSP (everyone seems to hate it but I find it to be a good coral for boosting your confidence when getting started in the hobby 😅)
Black sun coral - interesting! Have you trained yours to be open during the day?
Even later in the hobby it keeps boosting my confidence personally, holy be GSP xD
I've got a 180 gallon mixed reef, just over 1.5 years old. Still growing out but I've got some cool corals in there, some acros, torches, beautiful hammers, zoas etc. Every time friends or family admire the tank I ask them which coral they like best. 100% of the time their favorite coral is my GPS 😂.
Smaller pieces that are up high with good flow and good lighting creates much longer thinner polyps. These can grow huge.
Two primary - Indonesian weeping willow long polyp toadstool and Japanese deep water weeping willow long polyp toadstools. I have a number of large mother colonies as well as multiple frags. Takes often weeks for a frag to attach to rubble or plugs.
A common Duncan would have to be in the top three for me it’s a great indicator if something is going on in my tank
Yes, one of my first corals! Takes me back!
I love the weeping willow leather. I want a weeping willow leather
It's AWESOME!
This is a hobby I'm in love with and my bank account hates! 🤣
Feel that!
Excellent video... Just excellent!
Thanks Matthew!
Tons of awesome content, thank you for the beautiful shots of the WW!
Glad you enjoyed it!
20k let's go. Will hope to be in that drawing
LETS GOOO!!
Another great episode, keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
Best reef videos bro 👌 💯 i need ones of those weeping willow frag bro lol
Thank you! Giveaway soon!
OMG that is the ultimate to have your coral in the Shed Aquarium. I am stoked to get your two and Tyler's toadstools in my new 240 in about a week. Cannot wait to see them take off to a whole new dimension. Awesome video as always...
Can't wait to see it!
Glad you trusted my advise and it worked out for you, Mok Yi. Keep up the good work 👏
Grow baby, grow!
Wow, that’s pretty awesome that you have a frag in the shed aquarium!
I know...It's actually pretty surreal.
My blue ridge coral is one of my favorite underrated corals. Great video. Can’t wait for the next one!
Good choice! You might like the next one...we'll see though.
Love The InappropriateReefer! Just started my journey so stoked to find y’all😊
Welcome aboard! Push through all the ugly stuff you'll encounter in the first year or so. It's very rewarding!
Congratulations on having your coral on display at Shedd for others to enjoy and appreciate. Super cool!
Thanks! I can't wait to see it in person!
Great Video! Absolutely love how you got the opportunity to share a special piece of your collection amongst many reefers and shedd!
Waiting on my opportunity someday! Got some goodies cookin 😮
Yes! It's an honor for sure. Not that I did anything special...just snagged an awesome coral! I've been getting update photos from Shedd and they are growing so well. Must be that Lake Michigan water...lol
That’s absolutely incredible that Shedd reached out and acquired the piece. I’m local and I’ll definitely be checking it out soon! My favorite corals are really mushrooms. There’s something about the bubbliness of ricordeas that I really enjoy, along with the bright colors of oranges and greens, two of my favorite colors.
YES!! I was pumped! Lots of colorations with mushrooms too!
Love the content man keep it up ❤
Would love find a frag of this coral one day
Thank you for the kind words! I'll release the contest info once we pass 20k on the channel.
Keeping our fingers crossed that we can get your channel up to the goal for you. Really enjoy all of your videos. And maybe we will see some of these frag’s at the next frag swap. Hope you’re going.
I'll be there!
2nd favorite next to the black widow nem!!! If you count that as a coral lol
Black Widow...very nice! I'll let it slide :)
How cool I was at Shedd a week or 2 ago and might have seen it!
Shedd is one of my favorite places on Earth! The best is when you go on a day nobody is there...which is rare.
I really like my Alien green cabbage leather. Leathers are just so easy.
Yep! Love those cabbage corals!
love the coral my guy ty for the vids love the content
You got it!
Went to the Shedd Aquarium today and found it!
looks like it's doing well. Took some pictures of it if you are interested
I really like gsp, it just looks really cool under my lights. Also I’m a new subscriber and I just set up a tank like 2 months ago bc of this channel so thanks for inspiring me :)
Thanks for the sub! Best of luck to you on your new addiction. Don't let the little things get you down to start. There's most likely an answer!
It is one of my favorite corals. I got a nice size frag a year ago from another hobbyist here in Austria. It has been closed for most of the first year, only opening a week or so and closing again. Now since 3 months in my new tank it is really growing. It was among the first 5 corals I have ever owned.
Very cool! Yeah, sometimes they can get frustrating. My mother closed for a couple months and then magically came to life again.
Leather corals are nice. I should have used them more back when I was keeping corals. I had issues with them on frags though...
They'll definitely get big if you let them. I've got one that's messing with the flow in my frag tank big time. It's just in the way wherever I place it, lol.
Once again thank you so much for my frag! It’s easily my FAVORITE coral I have.
I love the fact you got frags all over the country! #ReefingHoodOfTheTravelingWillow
That's right! Always happy to have you on the channel!
Ur tank looks amazing, I wish that my tank could grow in like that!
@@ricelittle I really appreciate that!! Thanks for that, sometimes you forget and always think the grass is greener!
I can’t wait to win a piece of the weeping willow, so awesome Remy
Manifesting...I like it!
Thats awesome! I work with Jason’s girlfriend and went to MACNA with them!
Nice!! Jason is a good dude.
How awesome and exciting a coral flag from your own tank ended up being housed in such a well known public aquarium! Yes it is just like getting a casting call from Hollywood! I am hoping to get this fantastic coral one day too, I know toadstool from Okinawa region in Japan is known for its extra long polyps just like yours or Jake's . Would be ideal if I can bring it back here next time when I go home in Japan...not sure if I can though, as importing animals is never easy. Actually there are many fishes and corals either only available or much cheaper in Japan, I feel always jealous hahaha.
It's an honor for sure! Japan has an awesome variety of toads. I like the green leathers.
I really like trumpet/candy cane corals. They’re overlooked by a lot of hobbyists but they have a unique look to them.
There's actually a solid number of color variations too!
I really like them. I have them in mint and neon green.
classic long polyped toadstool, you got to love it.
YESSS!
@@BahamaLlamaCoral finally got my hands on one they had at the corner reef pretty big one too.
I'm looking forward to you getting 20k and getting a chance at the weeping willow. It's really awesome that the shed aquarium has one.
I was so thrilled to donate!
I love zoas more than any other corals, but would love a weeping willow coral
It's a beauty!
I have a green one as well and was told it’s a Japanese green weeping willow. I’m a new reefer, so please correct me if I’m wrong. It’s my favorite piece and it’s growing huge in high light and flow. Love your channel!
I'll stand firm and say that there is only one true weeping willow and that was Jakes. (I'm obligated to enforce that, lol). I think I know the strain you're speaking of. Are the polyp stalks supple and bendy or are they more rigid?
Based on your previous weeping willow video, I disagreed with the person 😆 but I went with it because I needed to give it a name lol. They are more rigid, and they definitely don’t “weep” when the flow is turned off.
@@timgreek7094 Yes, I know the exact one you're talking about. Hey, bottom line..if you like it and can grow it, that's all that matters!
The Green one is not from Japan. These were sold by Dave Palmer of PAF who got them from an outdoor coral farmer (not Steve Garrett, which is ironic, I’ll explain later) as tiny dim sized frags. I purchased all 15 frags from Dave and sold them while saving some for grow out. This was back in 2014ish. They grew incredibly fast and are exceptionally beautiful. My shop is in Southern California. I showed them to Jake in many texts and eventually he saw them in person when he came down to visit. I started calling it the “mint green weeping willow”. Jake slapped me 3 feet across the room and made me cry but since I’m a triple OG reefer we can get away with stuff others can’t. Jk about Jake being upset. He was just like “mine get longer!” And I was like “yea yea I know I know” Anyhow, I still have several large colonies which I now usually give to Steve Garrett and have him cut it up for me in his outdoor system. I have sold hundreds of frags of this coral here out of my shop throughout the years. Its NOT from Japan, even though that name got thrown in there randomly one day.
@@AliAtapour_ProjectReef Interesting how that happens. Where would it be found in the wild?
Would love to win! The weeping willow is my all time favorite coral.
Agreed!!
Have a good day.
YOU TOO!
My favorite underappreciated coral is my softball-sized fox coral. Hardiest and least finicky LPS I've owned, and I've had it about 16 years in total. A year and a half ago I traded it in to the LFS when I broke down the previous display tank for a move. They fragged it periodically, and then returned it to me early this year when my new display was ready.
That's a great story! Awesome that you still have it!
@@BahamaLlamaCoral Thanks! I've very much enjoyed your videos, BTW, and look forward to new ones!
Your weeping willow looks amazing. It’s nice that a few people have been able to grow them in their tanks as well Shedd aquarium adding one of your frags in their system. I’d love to put one of your weeping willow frags in my display tank and watching it grow out.
Maybe with the giveaway! I'm thinking about turning all of my attention to making nothing but willow frags to sustain the demand.😂
@@BahamaLlamaCoral lol.. keep me in mind 👍
i have a cyphastrea that Jake bought me at a store during small business Saturday its my favorite coral
That's awesome!! What an awesome keepsake.
I was super lucky enough to get a frag from bensnems and it’s definitely the star of the tank. Loves the high light
Yes!! Would love to see it! Shoot me a DM on IG!
Crazy, I work at the Shedd! I’ll have to check out these frags at work tomorrow!
That's awesome! Jason is the one that kinda set it all up. The baby is on exhibit and the mother is back in the coral room. I'll have to give you a shout when I get up there!
@@BahamaLlamaCoral yeah I’d love to say hi! Love your videos!
I love me some rock flower anemones I feel like they don't get nearly enough love
They don't and there's SO MANY COLORS!
@@BahamaLlamaCoral I know I have a little garden started and just added my favorite one so far it's got a green skirt with yellow inside with a red/orange around its mouth
20k is here can’t wait for the giveaway!
Truly a legendary coral the weeping willow!
Truth! Thanks for watching!
I love Rasta zoanthid’s!
CLASSIC.
Well there it is 20k 🤘🏻💪🏻
Man I really wanna own a weeping willow toadstool. I've been looking for one for about a year or two. But, hopefully I'll be able to get one sometime or if you can. I'll be more then happy to buy one from you!
My toads also grow really slow.. just the way it is sometimes. So cool it's going to an aquarium!!
Right?! I was stoked!
I have that same green wheeping willow toadstool, much smaller atm but identical to that one.
It's AWESOME. I love it.
My favorite coral is kenya tree. It is a great filler and grows super easily.
Interesting! I have a ton you can have :)
Man.. had I known Remy was in my city at the Shed I would've went for an autograph on my skimmer or something 😖
Lol! The video of me at Shedd was some older footage. We have a lot of ties in Chicago still so I'll be back soon.
Oregon tort acro is my favorite I've been reefing a long time before LEDs. I believe there's a bunch of corals left out of modern blue light only reefing and my wife loves the yellow fiji toadstool. Our softy tank grows so fast I hope I have room to win one. lol
Yellow fiji!! Nice! Maybe we can just swap frags.
I have Jawbreakers one of my favorite frags to grow
Ohh! Yes! I love those shrooms.
I need that frag but I love the JF Lime Light Hydnapora
YES!! Love that coral too!
I have that same neon green toadstool it’s amazing in person
I can't wait to put it in a proper location...lol. As much as I like the glass...
@@BahamaLlamaCoral I’m sure it’ll thrive anywhere in your tank but I found they look the best when the flow is low to moderate and the light is medium to high. The polyps extent really long and mines tripled in size within the first year
Remy I hope you get a peice of Jake's WW some day.
Idk if the reef builders studio has a BLWW but maybe you should send a peice there
Good point! I should definitely send some their way. I still hope to visit the studio someday.
definitely me favorite corals had to be GSP and after that zoaes because there are so many to collect.
GSP is underrated. Keep it under control and it's so STRIKING!
I know right. I absolutely absolutely love the look of a back wall coverd in gps I'm about 15% coverd on my 20 AIO and can't wait till is stretches across the hole back wall
Nowwww I get it. 😂
Dang, I didn't realize that was your frag. I was there about a month ago, and I recognized that tank and I was wondering where I could get that coral from.
Yep! There she is! I can't wait to see where they put the larger colony I donated. It's still in the coral room.
I am very excited for the giveaway and I loved the video btw
Thanks for watching!
It's quite awesome that Shedd wanted one! Just curious since I don't live too far away, do you have a favorite LFS in STL?
I am partial to Corner Reef. It's nice that the one I like the most is the closest to my house. We have 6 in the area. Gateway Aquatics and Seascape are also nice! If you're out west, Corals N' More is in St. Peters.
@@BahamaLlamaCoral I'll have to check Corals N' More out sometime. I'm in central IL. About 80-90 minutes from most lfs. And I've been to the Corner Reef twice in the last 2 months. Great place!
Im not too big into softies, but man this one looks crazy ! I just put a small tiny toadstool into my pico
Before you know it a couple years have gone by and it'll be the size of a dinner plate. They always try to be the center of attention. lol
Hey Remy, If you decide to sell any frags of the willow I would love to purchase one! I have been watching your videos since I got started in the hobby! Your content has taught me so much!! Thanks for all the videos
I donated a misbehaving emerald crab to my local aquarium and it now lives in their seahorse display. Of course, I refer to it as the emerald crab display.
Correction... "YOUR" Emerald Crab display...lol
green toadstool
Dude those gotta be around my area los angeles somewhere...
Keep your eyes open! I'm sure they are around somewhere!
Wish we could get a frag in Vegas
There might already be one there!
I bought one. Supposedly. But watching your video I need to get in higher light and more flow and see what happens.
Yeah, the name is used a lot in the hobby so it can get confusing.
Hi Rami wish if one of the frags can reach the middle east spicialy to Dubai we all love to have a frag of this beauty
What a trip that would be! I don't know the first thing about international shipping.😬
Just 14 hours away from the US maybe I will check if one of my buddies in the airline can pass by to get one for sure it worth it
I love torches but as far as non trendy I cannot have a tank without a clam and lobos
Yeah, can't beat a solid torch. I've actually never had a clam...they intimidate me for some reason.
Love this video .. I have been looking for one for 2 years here in Florida.. I will love to have one for my tank.. please can I have one
Green slimer I love this coral but it's everywhere now.
Classic. For SPS it's a good beginner too!
Yes very much so! Thing grows like a weed.
🧐 I’ll take that frag please 😂
You got it! lol
mmm I want one
YES!
I have a couple of those green long polyp toadstool. I thought they’re also called weeping willow. 😅
11:42
i would love a weeping willow but i would be afraid to kill it. right now my tank only has a rbta that split twice, zoas, mushroom and blue ridge coral. i need to insulate my house better cuz that winter is brutal on my reef tank
They are really tough. You'd probably be just fine!
Gsp is my no.1
I would love to buy a frag of your weeping willow. I’m in the STL area about 45mins from there if you have anymore. I’ve lost several corals last year and really trying to get going again.
the purple and green one at the end is a Japanese toadstool, im fairly certain.
Do you know where I can get a frag of this weeping willow ? I been looking for one !
I need a frag of this willow...
So bad. You gonna bring a frag of it to a swap I can go to? I'm in Peoria, Illinois. I bounce over to St.Louis from time to time.
Colt coral, pink nepthea
Pink nepthea is awesome! They are stunning in white light.
