Purchase corals at www.cmaquaticsky.com
This video is all about mushroom corals. Mushroom corals belong to the family Fungiidae of the class Anthozoa. Their name comes from their resemblance to mushrooms. We will talk about different types of mushrooms and the care that they require. Discosoma mushrooms are in my opinion one of the most readily available corals available for purchase in the marine aquarium hobby. They are the best coral for beginners to start with due to the fact that they are almost impossible to kill. If you are killing mushrooms then there is something really wrong with your aquarium. We will touch on ricodea mushrooms and some of the differences. We will also show how to propagate mushrooms with a few different techniques. If your new to coral propagation or have never tried it, then starting with mushrooms is your best coral to start with. They are cheap and I can honestly say that I have never lost a mushroom to propagation. That is the only coral I can say that about. I hope you guys enjoy the video and if you have any questions please leave them in the comments. Don't forget to subscribe and hit that notification bell.

Very interesting. Worth a try when I finally buy a mushroom, maybe at Reefstock 2021 in Sydney, Australia. Thank you so much.
They are great corals and make for a good first coral.
Amazing video, just got into the hobby and this is more informational than most of the other vids out there. thank you very much C:
You are very welcome. Welcome to the hobby. Try not to get overwhelmed because there is a lot to learn, but it is a lot of fun too, happy reefing!
Thank you!! I started reefing in March 2020. I absolutely love this stuff. I just started getting mushrooms. There really is not much stuff on mushroom. Like lighting schedule and parameters. But this video is absolutely what I am looking for. Please do more on mushrooms? I will be watching this video over and over as well
Thank you for the reply and I am very pleased to hear that you enjoyed the video. welcome to the reefing community, it will bring you great frustration and joy (lol) but there is nothing like it. I think mushrooms are an under rated coral and are beautiful. im sure ill do more videos on mushrooms in the future and there will be more coral videos for sure. If you ever have any questions or issues you need assistance with send me a direct message. Happy reefing!
This is what Ed Gein did, but made lamps and belts and stuff. HAAA!
I dig the mushroom look for sure. Thanks for the vid!

Interesting video cheers
Thank you Tony, really appreciate it!

Thank you!
Im aiming at a coral only nano and trying to cycle without fish. Do you think i can introduce a few mushrums during the cycle? Im using very low Lightning to prevent alega
The safest bet is to wait until you have 0 ammonia, but if you just can't wait a discossoma mushroom would be my best recommendation. They are very hardy and can live in just about any conditions and are cheap as far as corals are concerned.

It depends. How new is the system, where are you at in the cycling process. I typically don't put any coral in until it is cycled, that is the safest thing to do. If you absolutely have to get something in there I'd go with a discosoma mushroom. They are very hardy and would probably survive. Stay away from radactis and other mushrooms until fully cycled. The discosoma is the best bet in my opinion if you have to get one now.
Hi and thank you for your video, I was wondering if is possible de propagating all mushroom. rhodactis, discosoma, ricordea, interstellar.
Hello. Yes you can pretty much cut any mushroom. Remember there is always a risk when cutting any coral. For that reason I usually do not cut high end mushrooms I will let them grow and split on their own. Practice on disco mushrooms to get comfortable. It is best if you can cut directly through the mouth this will give the mushroom a better chance at healing and it will grow back faster. They do well cutting just below the cap and leaving the foot to grow back too. I have never lost a disco before but I am sure it is possible. I have had very good luck with ricordea through the mouth as well. Rhodactus too.
As always clear and efficient. Thank you so much to be there.@@cmaquatics7428
Anytime! We will try and help whenever we can and if I don't know I'll say so. Good luck with those mushrooms 🍄😉
Great video any tips to get zoa’s to open
Hey whats going on. First make sure they are not getting blasted with too much flow that will keep them closed. Make sure parameters are within normal ranges. Also with zoanthids, if they get detritus built up on their matt it can make them unhappy and they can remained closed. . If they are dirty use a turkey baster to blow them off and then adjust the flow they get accordingly. I hope that helps some.
@@cmaquatics7428 thanks so much it’s my first frag so im still leaning I probably should do some testing on my water
Yes that is important. I recommend testing calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, nitrates, and phosphates. Did the aquarium cycle properly before adding the frag? If not then that can be an issue.
@@cmaquatics7428 my last test showed that cycling was done I really appreciate the feedback I’m trying but not. I have a full time job and I do photography on the side lol I have a lot going go just trying to find some time to play with the tank thanks again 🙏🏾
No problem thats why I'm here. If you ever have any questions feel free to ask. My email is on the website www.cmaquaticsky.com. Send me a message anytime. My best advice is just take it slow and do your research. Good luck to you!
The only issue in this vid, you need a mic
Hello Kel, thanks for the feedback. The more videos I do the more equipment I realize I need to make them better. I'm slowly building it and working on it.
