[Cut to medium shot of Parisa Mahboubi speaking in a seminar room in front of a window. Camera angles vary.] Parisa Mahboubi: PhD in economics at the University of Guelph trains you very well to be prepared to start your career in academia or industry.
    00:10- 0:19
[Cut to medium shot of Thansis Stengos speaking outdoors beside Johnston Hall on the University of Guelph’s campus.]
Thanasis Stengos: The length of the program is between four or five years. Five years is the typical completion rate for a PhD student here.
    00:19- 00:55
[Cut to Parisa.] Parisa: I had a very great relationship with my advisors. It had a very important impact during my studies. [Visual cuts to footage of Johnston Hall and returns to Parisa] They understand the difficulties of this type of research. [Visual cuts to wide shot of Macdonald Hall and returns to Parsia] They didn't put any pressure on me to finish the research or put a deadline for that, but they expected me to do my research at the best quality. Anytime that I needed to meet with them they were available. Although my advisor was the chair of department, he was willing to take time to speak with me and go through the topics of the research. [Cut to wide angle footage of Macdonald Hall].
    00:56 - 01:29
[Cut to Thanasis. Camera angles vary.]
Thanasis: We've been extremely successful in terms of placing our students academically. I would say eighty percent of our graduates find academic jobs. We are working very hard at doing that, and working at placing our students, at the end of their program in the best possible academic positions that we can place them. The other areas of placement are government jobs, of course, and some of them, they have found jobs in the private sector. [Visuals cut to “Changing lives, improving life” banner and wide angle shot of Macdonald hall then returns to Thanasis] Given the analytical tools and their skills they are much more prone to getting jobs in academia.
    01:30 - 02:03
[Cut to footage of “Social security reforms” being typed into a search engine on a computer, followed by footage of Parisa talking about her research.] Parisa: For my PhD research I looked at social security reforms, and their impact on an individual's decision over their life cycle, with an emphasis on their human capital accumulation and labor supply decisions. This topic is really interesting because it involves policy implications. Especially these days, because of the hot topic of aging population, it is really important to investigate other types of social security reforms that improves the welfare of individuals. [Cut to wide angle of Macdonald Hall]
    02:04- 02:31
    [Cut to Thanasis.]
Thanasis: The department is a very friendly department. It's a department where professors are very accessible. They work with the students. It is a department that is based on one-to-one relationships and work with their professor. And that's something that essentially creates an atmosphere where they improve their research skills, and they start understanding what it means to do research on their own once they moved into their position of academia down the road.
    02:31-02:45
[Cut to brief footage of University of Guelph sign. Return to Parisa.]
Parisa: I've had a wonderful experience at the University of Guelph. I've met different people, and received encouragement and support from my advisors, my friends, and even the staff at the Department of Economics.
