This video is severely misinformed on so many levels. I am a PhD candidate here in the US. 1. No, all schools do NOT give you a masters degree automatically. Many do, but many don’t. My school does, thankfully. A previous school I almost got into, did not! 2. Yes, your PhD education is free especially when you are getting a STEM degree and you can save a lot from the stipend if you are by yourself. The stipend is definitely not enough for two people who want to live a comfortable life. Yes, people do have children with only a one stipend and that is absolutely not recommended if you want a good life for your child. At least, not here in NYC. Also, stipend depends on your location, as well as your program of study. 3. Yes, you can get a job in the industry but you have only 3 years of work permit in STEM and 1 year when it is a non-STEM degree. If you get into the industry, you get into the visa lottery and if you don’t get picked up, you pack your bags and leave. This applies mostly for those born in India because of over a 100 years waiting time in certain green card categories. Academia is your best bet, but I agree that many don’t want to be in academia. That is a different thing altogether. 4. No, you cannot work wherever you want because your OPT has to be a practical training for what you were trained in. If you just work in something that is unrelated to your field you are violating your F1 status and you could be deported at any moment and given a lifetime ban. If you are monetizing your UA-cam channel without a green card, prepare yourself to get into trouble any moment. I seriously hope you have a green card. I did not listen to the rest of this video because it is one of the most irresponsible and uninformed videos I have ever seen. Please do your research before putting things out there and misinforming/misleading people. Thanks!
Thanx for the info. Do u have your own UA-cam channel? Whilst running a PhD program, can one work in the Labour Market(company) and still earn a stipend as a student(from the school)? Thank you
Sorry , getting a PhD in STEM only end up getting stipend and Only 10 percent of her info is correct. All she is saying is “Alice in wonderland story”. 😢
Hi Namrata, Just want to correct that fact about MS along with Ph.D. Not all universities do provide this facility. For example, in my university, RIT, this is different. No provision for MS with Ph.D. You have to do separate courses to complete MS. If you leave Phd, for MS, you need to spend money from your side to do courses as the department won't fund you for that.
I amdoing Masters from China, If I do PhD from USA still i will get Masters degree at the end of my phD and still it will take 4 to 6 years to complte PhD. I am very ok with phD lasting for 6 years as long as i am given the stepend and i am supporting my family.
Hello Thank you so much for this video. I am a holder of a MSc degree living in Paris and I am thinking about applying for a Ph.D. in US. Thank you so much, I am going to subscribe right away to your channel. Could you please make more videos on this subject?
nah apu I am not convinced , you will always be getting an opportunity cost in the industry compared to doing a PhD in CS, because in CS its not all about coding, its also about making and understanding connections as well

Hey Namrata! Is the stipend in the form of TA/RA? And is tuition waiver included in that itself? In that case, people moving from India, how do they stay for the first few months because RA/TA positions can be availed only once we join the lab physically!
Hello Sonika Prasad, STIPEND: You will either be appointed as a GTA or GRA (and this includes a tuition waiver). You need not pay anything. Do not worry about the stay: University will pay you biweekly. For example, if your stipend is $2600 per month and say after-tax deductions it is $2400, then $1200 will be paid every two weeks.
Actually, not all US universities give a Masters along the way to a Ph.D. In fact I would say the majority of institutions don't do that. Foreign students will normally be offered a stipend and a tuition waiver. However, particularly in the non science disciplines stipends may have time limits which can put significant pressure on the student. Also funding options vary a lot from discipline to discipline. For example in the humanities faculty seldom have grant funding for research assistant positions. So humanities funding is generally limited to Teaching Assistant positions. Post Ph.D. opportunities are also strongly dependent on discipline. Science Ph.D.s have the most options and social science and humanities Ph.D.s the fewest. Note, I am a retired science professor and had lots of experience with foreign graduate students.

Hey! Most PhD programs in the US offer stipend once you are enrolled in the PhD program. Stipend does not depend on your previous qualifications. It is a standard amount of money. But most PhD programs in the US require 4 years of undergraduate education. I am not sure about the DU undergraduate tenure but as most colleges in India offer 3 years of undergraduate degrees, people come for PhD in US after getting a Master's degree. However, there are exceptions, if you have a stellar undergrad profile, you can still apply and get a stipend.
I finished my masters in 2022. Busy making money in the corporate world and I have done very well. Now my kids are in University, not ready to retire , but ready to quit corporate career. Interested in Phd. Not sure where to begin. Most videos are geared towards younger students. Any tips for 49 year old Vice President of IT services with an MBA?
Age is not a barrier. Indeed, those who are more experienced might have more opportunities to have clear ideas on research.... because they know what the real problems are.
I am also planning phd in fall time in 2025, having 25 years of corporate cyber security experiance, not intrested to retire, but pursue Phd in cyber security.

It does not matter where a student gets a PhD provided the university tries to maintain a high standard.
