Amazing video, I'm currently studying for my master (I already passed the exam, but I have to pass the first two months before the program begins), and I really want to do a PhD in the future and I love watch inspirational videos related to this area. Thanks.
Thank you for this video! I found your channel last year and being an econ undergrad, it really motivates me. I will try to adapt your tips to my master application this year, but if you could mention the main differences between the applications (besides the need to have an already strong research training) it would be very helpful. Also, I'm applying to HEC Lausanne economics program! Hoping to get in!
Thanks a lot, glad that it s useful! All the best for your application. Let s grab a coffee if you end up here. For the master, there are fewer elements, and I m afraid, the grades (with respect to the uni of origin might be very important). But indeed, projects and experience is research would be very useful as well. I m less sure though about the condition for ma master.
When I done my undergrad, I really didnt put any effort in and I graduated without honours. Since then I have completely changed my opinion and I have got into an applied econ masters degree. I am trying extremely hard to get the highest possible grades in order to maybe apply for a PhD. If I got a distinction and a good GRE score, would that be able to make up for my mistake and get into a good program? thanks for any advice!
Hi, great video! very usefull. I have to decide between Bocconi un. (milan, where i did my Bcs) and he graduate school in Geneva (international econ.) for my master. It's a personal choice, of course, but I would like to hear if you have an opinion on which school is the best environment for this process. thank you in advance!
Dear Quentin: I love your channel and content. I would live to ask you a specific question. I am a masters´s student in Economics and starting the process of applying to top Phd programs. I understand that the Gre´s quantitative section is determinant and of course I am working on this very carefully, however, since the verbal part is vocabulary focused, I struggling a lot with this part and have very low scores with no serious outlook of improvement because english is not my first tongue. Having a near perfect math score but a very low verbal one would affect my application? is this a major concern? How was your personal experience? Thank you very much for your time and attention. Have a good one :)
Good job on the math part! It s a real pain! Definitely secondary, some will not even look at the English part. Check if you can submit only the math score also. However, as you are going to work in english most certainly and the writing, presenting part of a phd is absolutely key , it s anyway important to work on that. Also, be sure that your letter and research proposal are well written. Ask someone to help and someone else maybe to proofread. Cheers. And good luck!!
Hi, thanks for the video. I’m doing my BSc in England at the university of Nottingham and would like to apply to some competitive graduate schools in the US. Will doing a masters first substantially increase my chances of getting in or do I stand a good chance with just a BSc? Thanks very much
Sorry, but I m not sure I fully understand your question. Let me try anyway. Yes, you should apply to numerous universities. No, you don't have to say this in the letter. I said that in my because it was a very peculiar situation where I was all in for one place. But that s rare and not the best strategy.
Trying to put in you in the shoes of someone who want to hire you. This question might serve several roles. 1. Assessing where you are shooting and your strategy (this person has a plan or aim for anything and is clueless), 2. Assessing if you have other choices (if you have an MIT offer, they better hire you quickly, trying to assess with who they are competing). But let me ask around if colleagues see something else.
Two colleagues confirmed but it might be a bit of a trap.. like if you say that you also tried in other places how bad you want to go in this one specifically.. it depends of the person. An honest answer always wins..

No chance without a master to go for a phd and even less in the US :).
@@the_causal_mindset Thanks very much :)
Interesting video, if I have math, statistics and economic teaching experience in university, will this hello too?
Sure! It s a good proof of your knowledge
In application, if they ask you which other institutions you have applied
What should I do?
Should I write a list of other universities or not?

@@the_causal_mindset I heard in interview they ask you about if you applied to other universities

I also got this question. I realized it may be a trap. Too bad I didn't see this video before the deadline
