The contact sensor is very solid, but slightly wider than I would like for the main part of the unit, but not a deal-breaker. I actually don't mind the substance of the HS2 but because of it, I'm hesitant to mount it on a wall. It may end up on a horizontal surface in an open area where it can control a variety of devices in multiple rooms. Great review as always Simon!
@@edndomotique9556 hi, you can’t trigger Siri Shortcuts with any smart switches or buttons unfortunately. Maybe in ios18 you can do it, but not at this time.
Since I got my onvis button, it has been non-responsive in Apple Home. I tried removing/installing the battery and deleting and re-adding from Onvis app and Apple Home. Anything else I should try?
The first question I need to ask is do you have an active Thread Border Router in your home. I’m sure the answer is yes, but it’s best to check. Additionally, have you updated the firmware since having it? If you’ve had it and it was working prior to this, you may need to factory reset it before re-adding it. This seems to work usually.
Sorry to hear that. That hasn’t been my experience with the motion sensor, and I’ve had it since early 2019. I’m waiting for the Thread version to come out to replace it, but the original Bluetooth model has been great.
@@gzoechi Thread is the Wireless protocol (like Bluetooth, WiFi, Zigbee etc), whereas Matter is sort of the framework, essentially. You can get Thread devices that are Matter compatible, but this isn’t one of them unfortunately, hence HomeKit over Thread as opposed to Matter over Thread.
Which Alexa device are you referring to? Some devices that work with Alexa also work with HomeKit, it just depends on the manufacturer and the product in question.

@@homekitnews thank you for the quick response! I had to remove the battery again, re-add it and do the firmware update
@@jay-jay017 is it working again?
@@homekitnews it is! thank you
IDK about onvis. I have an onvis motion sensor and you practically have to jump up and down waving your arms from two feet away to set it off.

My first Eve Motion doesn't report movement at all (I didn't try jumping yet though 😉)
It will go back.
Does it work with anything but homekit?
It’s only HomeKit compatible unless there’s an update for Matter in the future, which would then make it compatible with all four major platforms.
It should support Matter now. I unboxed it, but I can't find a Matter QR code.
@@gzoechi it’s only HomeKit over Thread so it can’t be used with Matter.
@@homekitnews I came to that conclusion as well. Seems I mixed up Thread with Matter. I don't use HomeKit at all

Is there any way I can expose Alexa device to homekit ? Is there any hardware Hub (or software) product available?
Which Alexa device are you referring to? Some devices that work with Alexa also work with HomeKit, it just depends on the manufacturer and the product in question.
You probably need to be checking out Homebridge, which allows many non-Homekit devices to get exposed to Homekit
