I'm about to wrap up course 5. I have zero tech background, like avoided technology and its been great. I love how they continue to go into more detail and show how things you learn in earlier courses tie in.
I took the IT helpdesk cert and they had to cut out a chapter on automation because it became outdated right away and they lied about it.
Presenters knew their subject but most were terrible presenters.
@@Freakazoid12345 I can agree with some of this for sure! There are some presenters that have the personalities of wet mops. The further I get into this, I can see its not going to get me a job with this alone. But for me, I needed to start at basically the tech kindergarten and this has done that for me. Their course is giving me the foundation I need.
I always say, no certification or training will get you a job. The knowledge you gain will get you a job. There are CompTIA certs that are required to work, but having them still won’t guarantee a job if you don’t have knowledge.
Why do you, "always" say that when H.R. makes certs a barrier to job entry?
@@Freakazoid12345 Because while some (not all) employers will require a cert or degree, having that cert or degree doesn't mean you are the best candidate. If 200 people apply and 150 of them have the cert, the other 50 will be weeded out before screening for anything else, but you are still up against 150 people. Not having a specific cert will limit who you can apply to, but even people with 25 certs and a Master's degree are not guaranteed a job... especially if they lack either critical thinking skills or people skills.
Thank you for sharing. I was on the fence. I think I'm going to do it. :)
It's good for someone that wants to learn more about cybersecurity. It won't get you a job but it has great information.
Hey Kev great tutorial keep up the good work.and yes I been subscribed to your channel a long time ago.and I like an look at mostly all the content you put out.once again thanks..😀
Thanks
I appreciate u
Hey Kev, I got the cert in about 6 or so days. I did not do the portfolio assignments because I thought they were a bit weak. If you have any IT experience you can breeze through this. I will say that my Linux knowledge was a detriment in completing the labs as I instinctually did some of the tasks to get the answer in an easier way, but the answer wasn't really what they wanted. So, I skipped two of the Linux labs as a result.
I would not consider that this course prepares you, in any way, for Security+. It's taken me, about, an extra month of prep and study to be at a place where I am comfortable taking Security+, despite having a decade of IT experience (with a focus on cybersecurity).
The biggest boon from this is the coupon code for 30% off the sec+ test. I think that that alone is worth the price of admission (particularly if you can complete it quickly).
It helps with security+ but you definitely need more than that to study it. I think the course is pretty good for someone new who's trying to understand cybersecurity, cybersecurity concepts, and cybersecurity tools.
So it was 24 hour grinding?
@@Freakazoid12345Yea im curious how long it takes someone for whom the material was easy.
@@ultravioletiris6241 I wouldn't know.
I have traumatic brain injury and lots of things in life that make it much more difficult to study than the average person.
But there are people who claim to get through courses in 1/4 of the average recommended times.
I'm too embarrassed and ashamed to say how long it takes for me.
Hey Kev, you mentioned about scholarship in the video. Do you know the requirement to be eligible for the scholarship course? Great content as always. Keep up the good work!

@@KevtechITSupport thanks a lot!
Thanks Kev
Great video. I'm going to back up and go for the Google IT support professional certificate first. Being that it's 5 years old. Do you think the material is still relevant? Or does it need to be updated?
Google support cert is good for someone who has no work experience. It's useful for someone trying to get a+.
If you are a brand-new person trying to get into IT, look for other things like the free Professor Messer A+, Network+, and Security+ videos, the "Certified in Cybersecurity from (ISC)²", or other free material before you spend money on anything more advanced. There are even free classes for CISSP online.
I would agree generally however one of the benefits of the Google program is that you come away with several demonstrated projects to include in your profile for prospective employers. I think having actual substantial examples of competence in a particular subject helps tremendously and shows desire and effort.
