I totally agree to this comparison.
Please make a comparison if you can @Nicole Enesee , thank you
@@ProBallerJordan3 is there a video about that for the moment?
I took Google's and am now taking CISCO's SOC Fundamentals and Microsoft's Cybersecurity Specialisation concurrently and I have to say that I somehow like all of them - they all have some particular stuff that I like😅
But I'm a hobbyist C++ SWE and I love C++, so, I'm still checking whether a full move to Cybersecurity is what I'm going to do
Is the CISCO one new? Haven't seen it. I'm also leaning on switching from web development to a soc analyst job
@@dantejs1938, I got a Coursera Email on July, 20th about MS's Cybersecurity Program and then it goes over "Check other programs", etc. and places a "new" label on Cisco's Program. However, when you take a look at the some of the videos, you can see that some of them are from 2016, others from 2020 - but still, I don't think that changed much of the essence of it. They managed to pass on the main idea. One can then proceed further to learn about newer Tools and Systems on their own, as this is the case with anything else anyways. Even if the program had been 6 months old or so.
Even IBM has one similar, which is from a couple of years ago, but still relevant.
I actually recommend Cisco's Program as a follow-up on Google's or MS's Program(btw: Cisco kinda offers the same Path on their Learning Academy - it's called Cybersecurity Operations "Associate"; the next step would be the "Professional", which is also available as a Learning Path on their Academy).
It helped to consolidate a lot of what I had learned on Google's Program. I just finished course #5 outta 7 and intend to finish the Specialisation.
MS's Program is well done, and huuuuuge. I completed the first course and then decided to finish Cisco's first and then maybe go back to it, if I haven't got an Internship until then.
All the best.
@@dantejs1938 may I ask what is promiting you to switch from web development to cybersecurity? Money? The fun part? Job security? More potential for cybersecurity in the future than for web development? Thank you!
may I ask what is promiting you to switch from software development to cybersecurity? Money? The fun part? Job security? More potential for cybersecurity in the future than for software development? Thank you!
@AlexMedvediev-t9f, it turns out I didn't full-switch and I still do and learn a lot of SWE things [my love for C++ hasn't decreased a single bit; though I have also picked up other languages like TypeScript, Rust, etc.]
Now, the thing is: I like Cybersecurity, too. And I like learning about Blockchain. Which got me into learning Cryptography [and (proper) Networking🫤], and so on and so forth.
So, the truth is: I'm into sooooo many things, you know?!, and the hard part isn't learning them per se [as a street kid who homeschooled himself (I even have Electrical Engineering Degrees), I mastered the art of learning how to learn - that's the most important thing in my life - being able to learn anything I want], the hard part is actually finding the time to learn all of them haha.
I'm going through these tangents and talking about this in my reply is because the amount of people talking about having several interests, switching careers, not having CS degrees, etc. is huge.
Now, to your question: switching from SWE to Cybersecurity would be first due the pay, then the amount of jobs [securing stuff|ensuring security is basically needed everywhere, so, if you've gone through your basics and have something to show, finding a job should be doable], and because I think SWE can get you burnt-out real quickly, if you can't separate and nanage things. Depending on your Cybersecurity position, you can get home and have some actual non-job time. That's hard in SWE, depending on what you do.
Excellent review, I am currently working on the Google Cybersecurity course, maybe I tackle this one after I pass the Security+ certification, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Nicole. I think doing projects are as valuable as the certificate itself.
would you recommend this over the google cert.?
What courses would you suggest to take for beginners but for AWS???? Thank for your video's. Always providing great tech info!
for Mac users do i need to install windows to pass the certificat.
Sometimes people fail in interviews due to lack of basics
Hello! Great Value as Always
You said almost the same thing for Google's Cybersecurity Certificate
Isnt this one not completely out yet?
Nicole.
What kind of experience/how many years of CS do you need to get that high 6 figure remote job?
I'm making $120K/yr with my current job, only like 6 months of experience previously with a temp job. I have 11 years of IT SysAdmin experience prior and only made like $85K after all that time. I went for an online bachelor's degree.
My certifications are just basic CompTIA ones, A+, Net+, Security+, Server+, Linux+, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator, and an expired CC A. I would say Net+, Sec+, and Linux+ are applicable to what I do now. The MCITP just makes me good with Windows Server, Active Directory and that sort of thing.
I don't think my 11 years prior factors much other than I know Windows really well as a result. I'm currently a temp hoping I get hired when my contract expires by the end of the year. It's a really great company so far, I'm just used to being super busy as a SysAdmin, so the slower, project based work I'm doing now feels awkward and slow. Plenty of time for UA-cam at least! lol
I’d love to know too!
does it lead to employment
Appreciate the info! Thanks
Thanks for the info!
You are so authentic and sincere. Thank you for sharing @Nicole!
Link to your site is broken
Did she covered Google Cyber security certificate review?
yes
Hi Nicole and all! 🙂
Love your material Nicole!
Just wanted to ask you or anyone who may also have an answer.
My goal is Cloud Security Analyst and maybe Engineer down the distant road.
I have been studying, researching, planning etc etc but just need to know what would be the best cert(s) for Cloud Security Analyst and best entry level job(s).
I'm very open to any suggestions and recommendations.
Really hoping anyone can help me.
Thanks! Appreciate it.
Mass
Did you get an answer by any chance?
@AlexMedvediev-t9f no but I figured it out
@@AlexMedvediev-t9f no
@@AlexMedvediev-t9f Ive changed my goals and working towards Linux and then DevOps....found the answers :)
With someone who has a bachelors in cyber security and information technology, would you suggest adding any certs?
Did you get an answer?
Just am fyi certificate does not equal certification. You get a certificate for completing this course you get certified (certification) for doing Security+
ya, I know. they are too similar 😭
Nicole I am a Navy Service Member. I have you heard about MSSS? (Microsoft Systems Software Academy) can you make your next video about that program? I want all transitioning military members do know about it.
😍
❤😊
Aye!
