One of my favorite things about the first Xbox is so many of the games are still cheap enough I can walk into my local shop with $50 and walk out with a stack of games. Some I’ve heard of, some I haven’t. For $8 I’ll try something random and not worry about having risked too much. Fun stuff.

Grabbed By The Ghoulies and Whiplash right at the start, excellent choices. Still Life looks like my kind of game. I love adventures and I had no idea it even existed, so thanks for that. I wasn't big into the system and even when I got one years later I only had a handful of games for it. I ended up giving it to my brother and nephew to play with.

Quick note about Gunvalyrie, the control scheme is really weird. I heard it was originally meant to be controlled with combination of pad and light gun, but Microsoft put the kibosh on the light gun so it ended up with this bizarre control scheme. Quite unique, but maybe not for everyone.
I have to recommend Armed & Dangerous. I know it wasn't on your list but it is so perfect and doesn't overstay it's welcome plus the humor is THE BEST. Still Life is a tough one to love. The puzzles and the ?!*@$ cookie recipe is just WTF! Good moments but not great....at least in my amateur opinion.
The only ones I heard of and played are; Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Whiplash, Gunvalkyrie, and Breakdown (last 2 games I mentioned are backwards compatible to Xbox Series X). The Original XBOX really needs more love 🥰💚.

I grew up a SEGA fan and what a tragedy it was to watch SEGA die. Their acquisition by Sammy, to this day, is an absolute devastation to the gaming world. What SEGA would be today having not been picked up by Sammy would be a vastly superior company not held back by a company that wants to market slot machines and using SEGA and Sonic to cover up their shady practices, it's like mixing business with politics, or the Yakuza with the gaming industry and it's sad. So, I fortunately got a start on PlayStation during the SEGA Saturn years and have since learned that as awesome as the SEGA Saturn was, how in trouble SEGA was where SOA and SOJ just weren't getting along, it was a sign of bad things to come and by the Dreamcast, it was too late. But, I was with Sony watching PlayStation grow so when SEGA lost it, Sony were there to pick up the pieces running their business with the same mentality. Now, for a brief moment, SEGA lived on before Sammy acquired them and SEGA went downhill and the Xbox kind of felt like the Dreamcast 2 so, while all of my buddies had a GameCube and PS2 consoles, I ventured into the unknown with original Xbox. It wasn't as great as the PS2 or Dreamcast, but it had some superior experiences, ya just had to know what rocks to turn up. By the Xbox 360, Microsoft was starting to figure it out and Sony just got lost in all of the marketing, the PS3 wasn't a bad machine by any stretch of the means, it was really ahead of its time, an architecture that is influencing gaming today, the Xbox 360, not really at all, but Xbox took advantage of the disadvantage Sony had starting out, but we saw Xbox and Electronic Arts getting together and creating some really bad business decisions that have really hurt the industry today and used their influence to push that agenda we really didn't see Sony want to venture into but, to try and stay relevant, they did, but then winded up seeing them sort of abandon those in favor of PlayStation's strength. Xbox and EA developed paid content, HORRIBLE! but with their lack of long term developer relationships that has been cultivated by Sony and Nintendo over the years, it's all Microsoft really had, buy exclusive content, not exclusives. Sony didn't have to do that anymore, their consoles were huge and where consumers were, but starting with the Ballad of Gay Tony, it was all Xbox could do and thus DLC, Microtransactions, and Lootboxes and Game Packs were born, YES! Xbox brought it into the mainstream. SEGA had tinkered with it a little, before Rock Band you had Samba de Amigo on the Dreamcast where you could get extra songs, but Xbox and EA took off and ran free with it, Sony was still opporating off of the Old mentality that what you paid for was yours, one purchase gets you it all and games has to be quality tested because you had one shot to impress. Xbox did away with all of that, and Xbox was buying out devs, devs were getting lazy, and the PS3 was too advanced, too new and devs didn't know how to deal with it, Xbox was the easy way out. That all changed come 2009, about two years later when Sony began coming into their own and digging in, but Xbox was kind of figuring out how to dig into Sonys open wound. Like it or not, the man that killed the Xbox brand, was their biggest key to success on Xbox 360 to stab Sony repeatedly. Kojima is on Xbox today because of Don Mattrick, not Phil Spencer. Final Fantasy was on Xbox because of Don Mattrick, not Phil Spencer. Peter Moore got Xbox through a difficult time, but it was Shappert and Don Mattrick, ironically both former EA execs that got EA support and sent Xbox 360 through the roof. Phil Spencer isn't even in the same league as them, Don Mattrick just made a big mistake that was a fatal mistake. Gears of War was HUGE! And Xbox is just letting it go. Cliff Blezinski has asked Xbox to come back and theyve brushed him off, all that money to spend, and they turned him away. Why Sony aren't at his door asking him to come work for them and build a Gears clone using Unreal Engine on PS5, is beyond me, but would be a smart move. Phil Spencer is too busy trying to win over Sonys talent and be PlayStation rather than being Xbox. The truth of matter is simple. Microsoft just doesn't belong in the gaming industry, they really don't. They've found some talent, but they have no clue how to manage that talent. See, PlayStation is built up of gamers. Shu Yoshida was a Japanese boy that played games, constantly. He ought to be a bigger name, but I think he's smart to fly so low key, PlayStation 's hidden treasure is Scott Rodhe. PS Studios Game Designers and Directors praise this man, they evangelize his name because he shows up and gives them amazing feedback and guidance. Rodhe used to work for SEGA and started out as a QA Tester so when he shows up to Santa Monica Studios, they trust and know what he's doing. PlayStation is run by gamers thatve learned how to be suits over time. Xbox? Xbox is run by frat bros and sorority girls (in a minute) that spent their weekends on college getting wasted and doing drugs and made it through school with help from frats with degrees in business and business management and marketing. Sony, under Jim Ryan had it too cushy and were sliding back into that same style and now we're seeing Remasters and Remakes up the wazoo, where under Tretton and House (under Kaz Harai) they were about quality and original content. With Neil Druckmann running Naughty Dog, his ego will be Naughty Dogs undoing. Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra had open minds, Druckmann wants it to be about him so all this emphasis on his creation, his baby (The Last of Us) is snuffing their creativity with new IP that was their signature for a long time. Crash lasted as long as PS2. Jak and Dexter for PS2. Uncharted for PS3, but, not anymore, that's gone it's focusing on what Druckmann wants now, not good. The point is, Xbox is SEGA. They're struggling and you have to know when to quit. It seems Phil Spencer is starting to understand that. They have some good development teams but their suits, their businessmen. Rod Ferguson just returned to Xbox for the third time. He was running his own studio FOR MICROSOFT with Black Tusk that became the Coalition and he left to go work with Bioshock before brought on by Microsoft and it was so bad he left Xbox pay and retirement to go to Blizzard, and guess what? Guess where he's back too, because he didn't like working under Xbox. Phil Spencer is no great Savior, he's just managed to keep Xbox a float, but he knows he can't compete with the big dogs, even with infinite money and bottomless pockets because that's not what Xbox does, they're not gamers, they're suits and devs really can't stand working with them and can't stand their business practices. Xbox was an interesting experiment and they had SEGA support, they really grew with Xbox 360 but, Sony learned fast where they fell short and when Naughty Dog and Insomniac came into their own and they acquired Sucker Punch, it turned fast. You're right, Xbox had their moment, but they're SEGA right now and gamers can see while they spent $69 billion, gamers know they don't know what they're doing and Phil Spencer knows it's only going to do so much. They're going to have to yield to Sony and Nintendo. Sony knows hardware, they know games, and they know game development. They know gamers because they are gamers. Xbox are suits pretending to be gamers, they're not. They learned charts and graphs and spreadsheets in college. They didn't grow up hardcore gamers, that makes a big difference. I'm just saying

I love how you started off the video, calling it like it is for Xbox’s current climate. A massive step backward from how the OG Xbox and Xbox 360 fared with strong titles, versus the X1 and XSX being a complete wasteland in terms of actual exclusives worth investing in the consoles for. As for the list of games here, excellent picks man! Gunvalkyrie looks badass! That Special Forces Nemesis Strike and Shadow Ops are games I’ve never heard of before, but seem cool! I wanna replay goulies again its been like 6 or 7 years. I also wanna play the 3d platforms that you mentioned, we don't get those as much any more. I also wanna play crave and gun valkery.
Yeah, now is the time to snag up all the awesome original Xbox gems. I got 200 of them for $200 at a closing down game store a few years back. The sad part is I can't seem to find a working Xbox, they all seem to shit out soon after purchase. I hope some third party company creates a clone console that plays them one day. I doubt it with it being Microsoft.
Kinda to the point of the video, though, Still Life looks interesting, never heard of that, and that's kind of the problem with the Xbox. There was so much of a focus on Halo, that it drowned out everything else. Elder Scrolls was big because it was a PC game and Xbox is for PC enthusiasts that wanted to look at consoles. But, Xbox just didn't know how to push games. Gun Metal Wolf was amazing! You can play it on current Gen now, but that was a From Software game on Xbox they didn't want to bother with in the West. Xbox could have had more From Software games today but, wouldn't take it. Metal Wolf Chaos was already in English, it shipped in Japan as a full in English game but, Microsoft wouldn't localize it. Metal Gear could have been bigger on Xbox sooner but, everyone stuck their nose up at Metal Gear Solid 2 IT WAS ON XBOX!!!! Kojima was ok Xbox but they buried him with Halo and Forza so he just went right back to PlayStation and stayed there for a long while. Otogi and Otogi 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta, screw jet skis, Xbox had AMPED! Something to challenge Tony Hawk. He mentioned Fun Valkyrie. The Hunter series with Hunter: The Reckoning and Hunter: Redeemer THE REASON I GOT AN XBOX IN THE FIRST PLACE. Xbox had the superior version of Soul Calibur 2. It got Dead or Alive 3. It had Steel Battalion and Murakimo, but everyone was playing Mech Assault. IT HAD NINJA GAIDEN BEFORE PLAYSTATION COULD EVEN SEE IT! It has Painkiller: Hell Wars. Gamers on Xbox didn't know what they had, they were too busy drooling over Halo, and that was Microsofts marketing teams fault. Sure Halo made them a lot of money, but look what happened, they ran Bungie out. At the end of the day, though, how do you compete with: Final Fantasy, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid 3, Rule of Rose, Clock Tower 3, Haunting Ground, Xenosaga, Tekken and Street Fighter, Gran Tourismo, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, Guitar Hero, Virtual On, Virtua Fighter, Resident Evil, ALL of the Onimusha games, Silent Hill (all of them), Twisted Metal and on and on. Nintendo didn't fare as well as PlayStation, but was still a huge hit having taken Resident Evil from Sony, having Super Smash Bros Melee, F-Zero X, Eternal Darkness, Mario Sunshine, Super Monkey Ball, Sonic Adventure and Adventure 2, Skies of Arcadia, etc. Xbox had a long hard fight ahead of them but made it. At the end of the day, though, as is usually the case, those that had all three consoles got the best of it because they got to see and experience it all. Today, it's the best way to be and how gamers ought to be. Having an Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo console makes it possible to play it all and experience it all. When all I had was my Xbox, fortunately, all of us were different enough that all the bases were covered. I had the Xbox, my best buddy had the GameCube, and the rest had PS2s so we were all fortunate to spend time together as friends and play games on each other's consoles and experience, see, and appreciate it all and what they all brought to the table. Today, we all own it all and get to play from each camp and see the varying experiences there are and that's the way to be. To be so closed minded is such a disservice to ones self. Not sure how long it will be until everyone games on the same thing, hopefully it doesn't become smartphones or we're screwed. That's the biggest and most frightening thing there is to gaming I think. My smartphone has nothing on it because smartphone games are the devil! If all I have left is the PC, I'll take that any day over my smartphone. But, there's no point in console preference, or fanboying ourselves to a single place because it's us that misses out and they that win. Whenever there's gaming State of Plays or Treehouse or Showcases, we want the best from all three because in the end, it's not Xbox or PlayStation or Nintendo that should win, it should be US, we should be the ones that benefit from them appealing to us and giving us what we want, not letting them screw us over or pick our pockets. We're the ones that should win, the gamers
Feels like we have a blind spot when it comes to certain consoles being viewed as "Valuable and collectable". I feel like the xbox 360 and PS3 went the same way. Nobody really cares about them.
Excellent 10 games you shared! They are all bangers. The OG Xbox is a gold mine for sure! I started collecting for it back in 2020 and am working to complete my collection with it hopefully this year. I’m glad that it has flown under the radar for collecting while getting some attention here and there.
I'll be honest, I own both, and although the Xbox is a way better value (the best for consoles.) I really disagree with you. Personally I'd probably give up my x box first before my switch or playstation.

Sony, under Jim Ryan had it too cushy and were sliding back into that same style and now we're seeing Remasters and Remakes up the wazoo, where under Tretton and House (under Kaz Harai) they were about quality and original content. With Neil Druckmann running Naughty Dog, his ego will be Naughty Dogs undoing. Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra had open minds, Druckmann wants it to be about him so all this emphasis on his creation, his baby (The Last of Us) is snuffing their creativity with new IP that was their signature for a long time. Crash lasted as long as PS2. Jak and Dexter for PS2. Uncharted for PS3, but, not anymore, that's gone it's focusing on what Druckmann wants now, not good.
The point is, Xbox is SEGA. They're struggling and you have to know when to quit. It seems Phil Spencer is starting to understand that. They have some good development teams but their suits, their businessmen. Rod Ferguson just returned to Xbox for the third time. He was running his own studio FOR MICROSOFT with Black Tusk that became the Coalition and he left to go work with Bioshock before brought on by Microsoft and it was so bad he left Xbox pay and retirement to go to Blizzard, and guess what? Guess where he's back too, because he didn't like working under Xbox. Phil Spencer is no great Savior, he's just managed to keep Xbox a float, but he knows he can't compete with the big dogs, even with infinite money and bottomless pockets because that's not what Xbox does, they're not gamers, they're suits and devs really can't stand working with them and can't stand their business practices. Xbox was an interesting experiment and they had SEGA support, they really grew with Xbox 360 but, Sony learned fast where they fell short and when Naughty Dog and Insomniac came into their own and they acquired Sucker Punch, it turned fast. You're right, Xbox had their moment, but they're SEGA right now and gamers can see while they spent $69 billion, gamers know they don't know what they're doing and Phil Spencer knows it's only going to do so much. They're going to have to yield to Sony and Nintendo. Sony knows hardware, they know games, and they know game development. They know gamers because they are gamers. Xbox are suits pretending to be gamers, they're not. They learned charts and graphs and spreadsheets in college. They didn't grow up hardcore gamers, that makes a big difference. I'm just saying

A massive step backward from how the OG Xbox and Xbox 360 fared with strong titles, versus the X1 and XSX being a complete wasteland in terms of actual exclusives worth investing in the consoles for. As for the list of games here, excellent picks man! Gunvalkyrie looks badass! That Special Forces Nemesis Strike and Shadow Ops are games I’ve never heard of before, but seem cool! Breakdown is a great unique one too! Now, time to grab a few of these games while on the cheap side lol. Seriously, amazing video as always man!!

Yeah, now is the time to snag up all the awesome original Xbox gems. I got 200 of them for $200 at a closing down game store a few years back. The sad part is I can't seem to find a working Xbox, they all seem to shit out soon after purchase. I hope some third party company creates a clone console that plays them one day. I doubt it with it being Microsoft.

Kinda to the point of the video, though, Still Life looks interesting, never heard of that, and that's kind of the problem with the Xbox. There was so much of a focus on Halo, that it drowned out everything else. Elder Scrolls was big because it was a PC game and Xbox is for PC enthusiasts that wanted to look at consoles. But, Xbox just didn't know how to push games. Gun Metal Wolf was amazing! You can play it on current Gen now, but that was a From Software game on Xbox they didn't want to bother with in the West. Xbox could have had more From Software games today but, wouldn't take it. Metal Wolf Chaos was already in English, it shipped in Japan as a full in English game but, Microsoft wouldn't localize it. Metal Gear could have been bigger on Xbox sooner but, everyone stuck their nose up at Metal Gear Solid 2 IT WAS ON XBOX!!!! Kojima was ok Xbox but they buried him with Halo and Forza so he just went right back to PlayStation and stayed there for a long while. Otogi and Otogi 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta, screw jet skis, Xbox had AMPED! Something to challenge Tony Hawk. He mentioned Fun Valkyrie. The Hunter series with Hunter: The Reckoning and Hunter: Redeemer THE REASON I GOT AN XBOX IN THE FIRST PLACE. Xbox had the superior version of Soul Calibur 2. It got Dead or Alive 3. It had Steel Battalion and Murakimo, but everyone was playing Mech Assault. IT HAD NINJA GAIDEN BEFORE PLAYSTATION COULD EVEN SEE IT! It has Painkiller: Hell Wars. Gamers on Xbox didn't know what they had, they were too busy drooling over Halo, and that was Microsofts marketing teams fault. Sure Halo made them a lot of money, but look what happened, they ran Bungie out.
At the end of the day, though, how do you compete with: Final Fantasy, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid 3, Rule of Rose, Clock Tower 3, Haunting Ground, Xenosaga, Tekken and Street Fighter, Gran Tourismo, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, Guitar Hero, Virtual On, Virtua Fighter, Resident Evil, ALL of the Onimusha games, Silent Hill (all of them), Twisted Metal and on and on.
Nintendo didn't fare as well as PlayStation, but was still a huge hit having taken Resident Evil from Sony, having Super Smash Bros Melee, F-Zero X, Eternal Darkness, Mario Sunshine, Super Monkey Ball, Sonic Adventure and Adventure 2, Skies of Arcadia, etc. Xbox had a long hard fight ahead of them but made it.
At the end of the day, though, as is usually the case, those that had all three consoles got the best of it because they got to see and experience it all. Today, it's the best way to be and how gamers ought to be. Having an Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo console makes it possible to play it all and experience it all. When all I had was my Xbox, fortunately, all of us were different enough that all the bases were covered. I had the Xbox, my best buddy had the GameCube, and the rest had PS2s so we were all fortunate to spend time together as friends and play games on each other's consoles and experience, see, and appreciate it all and what they all brought to the table. Today, we all own it all and get to play from each camp and see the varying experiences there are and that's the way to be. To be so closed minded is such a disservice to ones self. Not sure how long it will be until everyone games on the same thing, hopefully it doesn't become smartphones or we're screwed. That's the biggest and most frightening thing there is to gaming I think. My smartphone has nothing on it because smartphone games are the devil! If all I have left is the PC, I'll take that any day over my smartphone. But, there's no point in console preference, or fanboying ourselves to a single place because it's us that misses out and they that win. Whenever there's gaming State of Plays or Treehouse or Showcases, we want the best from all three because in the end, it's not Xbox or PlayStation or Nintendo that should win, it should be US, we should be the ones that benefit from them appealing to us and giving us what we want, not letting them screw us over or pick our pockets. We're the ones that should win, the gamers
Feels like we have a blind spot when it comes to certain consoles being viewed as "Valuable and collectable". I feel like the xbox 360 and PS3 went the same way. Nobody really cares about them.

Excellent 10 games you shared! They are all bangers. The OG Xbox is a gold mine for sure! I started collecting for it back in 2020 and am working to complete my collection with it hopefully this year. I’m glad that it has flown under the radar for collecting while getting some attention here and there.
