I was in High School when this great record was released. I accidentally put side two on, thinking it was Side one. This was my introduction to this great album. What a fantastic song. I went a few years thinking that was side one lol.....it didn't matter. This album is so symmetrical.
Okay, I'm one minute in and I already wanna yell, "Show off!" over the stick spins and spot on percussion. (I once saw Neil throw one up into the lighting rig and NOT catch it - made me feel good that he's human after all) But anyway, WELL DONE.
Just saw Rush last Saturday in Newark NJ...haven't missed a tour since Grace Under Pressure......you totally nailed a very difficult Peart drumming song! Cheers Sir!!!
Well, I've always air-drummed in the car and when Signals came out, I learned the basic beat, even though I never touched a drum until 6 years after that. The only difficult part of this song is the middle part where there are all kinds of fills during the guitar solo. It's hard to remember where everything goes. The only other hard thing I had to actually 'learn' were the very fast, intricate snare rolls near the end of the song.
I clicked almost right on the sweat droplet part lol . I wanted to see the hi hat work on the instrumental section . I just played it for the first time in years . Trying to get educated . TY fir your work & sweat , and the post .
This guy is really a fan. I'm a drummer myself and I' ve been listening to RUSH since childhood and I'm still quite unable to play any of RUSH songs, shame on me. Though, I vastly use Neil's techniques and approach to the drumset, I'm pretty much play at my own pace. One of this days I will upload one of my videos, just for fun of course. Well done I appreciate this guy a lot.
That was unbelievably great dude. Thanks Neil for giving us so many great moments and things to be in wonder about, Thank you. RIP Professor, You were and still are the greatest drummer of all time, and an incredible lyricist as well. 3 geniuses 19 amazing records { I know, Neil wasn't part of the band for the first album so 18 if you want to be precise }.
when I first bought this record in the fall of 1982, and yes it was a record lol- I was a soph in high school at the time and was already a rush fanatic- I didn't pay attention and played this track first as it was the first song on side 2. So I went months thinking this is how the album opened and it gave a different perspective for some reason. Anyway, I always pay attention to your videos and love your work. I'm not a drummer, just an admirer of great music. Love what you did on this video.
Nice job with the twirling! I've seen a ton of cover bands and other videos and no one ever does things exactly like Neil, it's all up to interpretation. Haters are gonna hate so just keep doing you!
fantastic!! aside from nailing every note, your drums and cymbals sound exactly like the actual recording!! love the chinese and splash's the best! great work! post as much as you can!!
In an imaginary scenario, if you had played like that while swirling your drumsticks when auditioning to replace John Rutsey in Rush, you may have got the job over Neil Peart.
Excelente tu trabajo amigo. Te felicito. Soy fanático de Rush desde 1974 cuando tenía 13 años. Y no te equivocaste en ninguno de los toques a la bateria.
I believe that in the early days of electronics (Grace Under Pressure tour), Neil wore a bicycle helmet with headphones on that piped in a click or some time-keeping device for both of those songs so that he wouldn't get out of synch with the newly experimental sequencers and samples that the band was tenuously relying on. Nowadays, the whole band has in ear monitors, so any problems like that are solved by the discreet earpieces being able to pump anything into the ear.
I learn the songs by ear. I sometimes look at drum-tabs or transcriptions of what other people think Neil was playing at certain crazy parts. I get some guidance from that but it's not always totally accurate so I have to interpret for myself. As for the muted drum track, I just try and play as exactly what Neil is playing so you don't hear his drums. I'm just listening to the studio albums and what you hear is Rush + me. If I do it right, you don't hear Neil because my drums drown his out.
I mostly play to a very selective audience of ghosts, spiders and shadows across the window. My beloved 5-piece stage custom Yamaha and a few zildjians and sabians (they are cousins you know) are a good source of solace gratification. When the house is empty and I feel alone, how much I love to drive my neighbors crazy for two or three hours, playing my unstable rudiments and thunderous bass drum foot work until the sunshine finally arrives.
it's great to appreciate Neil along with Alex & Geddy 🥁🎸🎹🎸 Neil's lyrics here could have fought the entire Vietnam war into the dustbin 🗑️ for both sides
Being a self taught drummer (at least for the first 5 years) and way back in 1984, The Weapon was THE song that taught me to strive for independence between my bass drum (constantly hitting the 1-2-3-4) and my hands and hi hat foot doing all kinds of other stuff in and around that kick drum pulse. I've had a lot influences over the years from a thousand different sources but this song, for me, was/is a top 10 learning experience. Oh yeah, this guy really learned his parts. I don't think there is any deviation at all from the Grace Under Pressure studio version. Fun fact: When Rush went in the studio to record this song (remember it's 1984) they needed a computer to map out the the arrangement.
This guy must be a diehard core RUSH fan. I am so envious, I have been a RUSH fan for years and I am also a drummer myself (well...bedroom drummer). But still I am unable to play any of RUSH songs due to time, studies or other interests. I play mostly by instinct and have a reasonable drum vocabulary, and Neil is pretty much present in my drumming (in a very small scale indeed). Not to mention jazz drummers like Tony Williams, Buddy you name them. All of them make up my humble bedroom drumming.
Omg dude, you are seriously a beast. Your stick flipping reminds me of the P/g DVD version of this song on youtube, idk if you've seen it, but it's awesome as hell. Superb job on this near impossible drumline:)
I’ve seen this video of you before, but not sure I ever noticed that the CD version you’re playing to is the Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs 24K Gold CD of this album. Inexplicably it is missing a vocal right before the break down leading into Alex’s ripping solo.
The particular copy of The Weapon is from the Signals Gold Ultradisc and for some reason they left out the vocals in that part of the song when they remastered it.
The Weapon is one of my favourite Rush tracks! Drumming is spot on!

But anyway, WELL DONE.
My fav drum composition, performed by someone who clearly loves it even more than I do.
This has my vote for the craziest Rush song, as far as the drums are concerned. Nice work!
Just saw Rush last Saturday in Newark NJ...haven't missed a tour since Grace Under Pressure......you totally nailed a very difficult Peart drumming song! Cheers Sir!!!
The Weapon is difficult to nail perfectly......can be faked easily, but to get it perfectly.....whew, you da man!

You should be proud of this performance. So very well done, sir! Thank you for working so hard to master it and then sharing your performance with us.
now that Neil has retired, the boys can call you for the next tour. enjoy your drumming. you rock!
I come here every now and then to watch you absolutely nail this. Thanks!
Neil is the master but you are the master of twirling those sticks

@@juanlayton2848 em, no its not
@@maziu27 no es not what..homosexual...
@@juanlayton2848 no it's not
@@juanlayton2848Neil often threw his sticks up and caught them. Not so much on twirling.
Just watched it again from start to finish... Never gets old.... Perfection!
The Professor would have been proud good job on one my favorite songs.

i have no words man that was awsome playing i love the stick work as well i canot tell you how may times i will watch this vid unreal.
I didn't think anyone but Neil himself could get through that song! That was insane! Well done! Time to check out your newer version!
That was unbelievably great dude. Thanks Neil for giving us so many great moments and things to be in wonder about, Thank you. Very nicely done! 5:23 --- out of this world, man.

Jesus H Christ....are you serious? That was absolute insanity! Wow...well done sir...Neil would be proud.
That was awesome my brotha! I really enjoyed watching you play too that song! Excellent job!
Most flair of any Rush cover I've ever seen, but all in all, great cover. Timing was spot on
Been a Rush fan for over 30 years. Nice work on this!!!!!
Very amazing! Thank you for sharing your talents on what I would think is a very difficult song to play the drums to.
Nice job with the twirling! I've seen a ton of cover bands and other videos and no one ever does things exactly like Neil, it's all up to interpretation. Haters are gonna hate so just keep doing you!
A complex mind created that drum piece
yes, geddy lee came up with the main hi-hat snare figure on a drum machine
Specially my congratulations men, first time i saw you... waooo nice drums..
friggin rights man! superb job!
Dude, that stick-twirling is BADASS!
Dude props!!! Anyone who can play Rush has my mad crazy respect!!!👍

Outstanding sir.
Pleasure to witness

Amazing job, loved every min. You nailed a very hard song.
On a 1 to 10 scale... this is 11. Brilliant!!!
You nailed it. But how could Neil created this, so good, and end it with that jazz feel in the ending, master creation, RUSH...
Great recreation of awesome drum-work!!!
One of the best Peart play-alongs I've ever seen . Well done mate.
Holy CRAP! I've seen this one performed live and (as much as I love the Prof)... YOU ROCKED!!! Great stick work...
Excelente tu trabajo amigo. Te felicito. Soy fanático de Rush desde 1974 cuando tenía 13 años. Y no te equivocaste en ninguno de los toques a la bateria.
Jezus Paulie, now you're just showing off! Just playing this song so casually isn't enough...stick twirling on a TWO BEAT pause? ...

awesome Paul. Thks for doing this one. It's one of my top ten fav Rush songs. What do you consider the most difficult of all the Rush songs to play?
dude, I love watching you play Neil. ROCK.
Wow, that is incredible. Great job. I can only dream.
Way to play man!!! this song brings me a lot of memories
@Pauliewanna thats great stuff. ive watched alot of your drumming on here. be fun to play with someone thats accomplished. keep up the great work.

He's having fun, that's what it's supposed to be about. Don't hate, instead practice to get good like him. Peace.
Awesome job Pauli....The Weapon is my fav. And I love the stick twirling!

Amazing , this song is brutal and you nailed it !
Looks like you put some time into this and it paid off.

No matter what people say Paul don't let them get to you, keep playing your heart out neil isn't easy but enjoy what you play
You kicked the literal s*** out of that song! Great freaking job!

You´re a great drummer! incredible!
Phenomenal Paulie u did it again bro!
Real nice! I've never seen a drummer using both hands on a ride cymbal.
I wish I could twirl that great! Good job, man! A tough song.
Omg dude, you are seriously a beast. Your stick flipping reminds me of the P/g DVD version of this song on youtube, idk if you've seen it, but it's awesome as hell. Superb job on this near impossible drumline:)
Learning advanced trigonometry or the drum part to The Weapon. You choose.

Yeah, I heard that, wondered WTF???
wow, and the stick twirling. Great job
Well done; Very...well done! Not an easy selectipn to cover, I wouldn't think.
Master of twirling
without a doubt Pauliewanna is fucking impressive... I have to always be in awe of how great his covers are.. great skill and talent.. wow.
wow!!! amazing my friend.
@sjolzy The man is allowed to twirl his sticks if he wants. As long as it doesn't get in the way of the music, I don't see the problem with it.
Hella good expecially with the stick work.
Neil would be proud of you... Awesome to watch you
I'm no drummer... but that looks like some very difficult timing. Bravo!
What time? Probably about 6 p.m. This one was done in sept 07. Fly by Night was in May 07.
Great job you did that song perfect keep it up!
The composition of this song is so ingenuis . You think it's simple until you try it yourself.......
Top stuff - great vid and effort!!
