“Only Neil would think up a drum pattern like this.” This is precisely why Sterling’s vids are so expository of Neil’s brilliance. Even a song like “Stick It Out”-a hard, driving drum part, so evocative of the grungy ’90s sound, but he never hits a single tom, it’s just the snare and bass drum.
And I've never heard another drummer do anything close to what Neil originally played in this song ever ! I called this the ''Drummers Song"....it taught me what I called "hi hat integration" and help me to add some more variety to my playing style. And i saw in your playing style something my 1st drum teacher could never assist me to over come. Being able to play the high hat completely left handed. I tried for years to learn how to do that.....just never could get the timing to do so. I admire and hate drummer that can do that...but respectfully tho.
"We’ve got nothing to fear - but fear itself? Not pain or failure, not fatal tragedy? Not the faulty units in this mad machinery? Not the broken contacts in emotional chemistry? With an iron fist in a velvet glove We are sheltered under the gun In the glory game on the power train Thy kingdom’s will be done And the things that we fear Are a weapon to be held against us… He’s not afraid of your judgement He knows of horrors worse than your Hell He’s a little bit afraid of dying - But he’s a lot more afraid of your lying And the things that he fears Are a weapon to be held against him… Can any part of life - be larger than life? Even love must be limited by time And those who push us down that they might climb - Is any killer worth more than his crime? Like a steely blade in a silken sheath We don’t see what they’re made of They shout about love, but when push comes to shove They live for the things they’re afraid of And the knowledge that they fear Is a weapon to be used against them…"
Crazy good cover! Such a tough beat to keep timing with, then add all the syncopation, constant variations and different fills. Very accurate, and you made it look smooth and easy.
I think the spirit of Neil Peart jumped into this guy. Absolutely fabulous. Neil Peart is widely regarded as the Jimi Hendrix of drums. I think Neil has earned it. Well done lad. You are a credit to your nation ...and your parents who let you pursue your passion.
Can’t stop listening to the cowbell at the end of the chorus. As a music lover myself, I say that this is the closest cover to the real song drums on UA-cam 👏🏻
Oh man you pulled this off Sterling. Long time rush fan here and you nailed it. I'm not a drummer but this song has always seemed so complicated to me. I know there's a steady 4 beat throughout the song but the rest just doesn't seem to follow suit. I've always wondered how it was played and you did a wonderful job. Perfect! Keep it up man!
Spot on. Think this is one of your best. This sort of a "flyover" song that I don't think of much, yet seeing it performed perfectly makes me appreciate on a whole new level. NPs Drum composition is just so unique. Thi Hi Hat work is something else. Funny but Neil often spoke of inspiration from other drummers. I see some Stewart Copeland in the HH work. Keep up the great work Stirling
Just watched p/g concert vid. I love how Neil was able to do the stick flip. He was truly out of this world. I can play this, but can never get the stick flip consistent. Thanks Sterling!
Love it. I'm a huge Rush fan and love everything they've done. This has always been one of my all time favorite Rush songs specifically because of the drum part. The way the kick is this constant driving force while the snare, toms and cymbals are sporadic and hitting on odd beats is so awesome. Plus the snare work is super cool. Your rendition is spot on!
Phenomenal playing once again. I think I yelled out at least 3 times.. "holy shit!" You killed it! Wow, such a complex beat, and again a beautiful performance.
Of course Neil's drum setup sounds totally different with his adjustments and studio embellishments. nice job. I love the intro on this one in spite of how simple it seems to be. Signals might be my favorite album of Rush. Moving Pictures is good too.
You've sold me dude... and now you have another sub! Absofrigginlutely perfect! One of my favorite Rush songs, but EVEN Neil never made me cry playing it. I guess it must be because he's not with us anymore, but you have moved me to tears with this one! Not ONE SINGLE MISS! PERFECTION! LOVE IT 😍❤️ RIP Neil Peart 🙏💔😭...👍👌🇨🇦✌️🎶🎶
Awesome in the pocket and in fact played with similar muscle memorty For what its worth ...i transcribed all the interviews with Neil Peart for the only official biography about RUSH...Visions
I accidentally told another Peart coverist that he should apply to replace the Great One when Lifeson and Lee reform. In fact I was trying to say this to you, but the video moved on while I was tying it 😅. Love your drumkit too, Sterling. The other guy's kit was a lot less Peartesque than yours.
Excellent rendition... there's so much that Neil thinks about when he puts an arrangement together. I think you captured the emotion/ thought process that he would have used. :)
Great job. Hitting on the off beat and keeping that up must be really difficult then switching back to the "on" beat. Wow incredible stuff. You nailed it.
I don’t think any band can release a series of great albums like Rush did, for example, A Farewell To Kings-Hemispheres-Permanent Waves-Moving Pictures-Signals.
play the drums. its fun. don’t play every day, though. you’ll play every day for like 8 months, 7 months, then you’ll run out of gas and start play call of duty 15 hours a day, and not acknowledge your drumkit. play every other day. TRY IT. take lessons first
Let me raise my (hi?) hat to you Sterling! You perfectly reproduced all the subtle nuances of that highly involved piece on all the toms and especially on the hi-hat itself. Kudos to you sir! If I may be very picky for a moment, the only thing missing is you flipping your right-hand stick in the air like Neil does during the verse parts of his live rendition (ua-cam.com/video/iTBx0P0zOqA/v-deo.html ). Very picky I said!😉
Only Neil would think up a drum pattern like this.
Everything is out of order yet it falls perfectly into place.
Fun fact, the intro was composed by Ged on a drum machine

@@2TUFSS Yep !!!!
Come on Sterling speak to us !!!
I tell you right now, you are the only drummer on UA-cam that even comes close to Neil Peart on UA-cam. This cover was amazing, Sterling !!! 😎
Amen

if heaven exists, he's now with jimi and jaco making music. geddy and alex were close seconds to them to be fair though
Watching you play made this song so much better.
The first song I learned from them. So good.
Always a killer performance! Neil would definitely be proud🤘
This looks, and sounds....great. Well done. Great song. Great job.
Can’t stop listening to the cowbell at the end of the chorus. As a music lover myself, I say that this is the closest cover to the real song drums on UA-cam 👏🏻

WOOOOWWW!!!! Amazing Professor! Claps on stand ...
My absolute favorite rush album of all time. RIP Neil.🙏
One of my favorite songs to play. This striking bass drum is awesome! Tks!

love the right to left cymbal crashes at 3:03 - great visual-cool choice
Just watched p/g concert vid. I love how Neil was able to do the stick flip. He was truly out of this world. I can play this, but can never get the stick flip consistent. Thanks Sterling!
You are such joy to watch and listen to!! The Professor would be proud!!
Holy Cow Batman...this guy was spot-on! GREAT JOB Mr. Sterling!
Awesome 😮 magnificent 😮

Fantastic! Never realized what a great song this was til I saw this drum cover
Neil would toss his stick in the air to keep time during the verses! Watch for it on the 1984 tour video.
Yeah, lol, I was gonna ask about this.
One of the best cover of this song!! Well done! Impressive!
Neil would be really proud of your work and dedication!
That was awesome. Great camera angle showed that you were spot on. Very cool
That is incredible, much appreciated!
Phenomenal playing once again. I think I yelled out at least 3 times.. "holy shit!" You killed it! Wow, such a complex beat, and again a beautiful performance.
HOLY SHIT !
Incredible playing. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I like the the hi-hat pattern with the left hand. Nice.
Love the hi-hat sound. Hold on to those hi-hat cymbals! Nice job!
Wow. Pretty damn accurate! Killer job on a song originally performed by a human drum machine out drumming a drum machine.
Incredible. Soooo much to remember. Amazing , Neil Peart
That was excellent. Your mid and low toms sound great. Also the China and open snail are perfect.
This was so such a good cover that tears are in my eyes. A flawless cover of a genius, underrated drum composition.
Excellent work, I'm really enjoying this one. Thank you
Right foot is a metronome. Such a great drum piece and well played, Sterling! Must be fun doing that “snare work” on the hi-hat like that. 👍✊
Sterling did a great job on that track you would make Neil very proud...
Of course Neil's drum setup sounds totally different with his adjustments and studio embellishments. nice job. I love the intro on this one in spite of how simple it seems to be. Signals might be my favorite album of Rush. Moving Pictures is good too.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. One of my favourite Peart performances
PARABÉNS irmão. Admiro seu trabalho. Excelente. Muito obrigado por nos presentear com seus vídeos.
Great job

I believe Neil was quoted as saying "The Weapon" was the closest thing to a dance song Rush had ever written
Was that before Scars? I always thought of that as their 'club' song.
@@bozimmerman Yeah "The Weapon" came out in '82, "Scars" was off Presto 1990
He also said it was the first time he played "four on the floor" and it worked. He would end up doing it for several songs afterward.
I'd say "Emotion Detector" off Power Windows IS an 80's dance song. And a good one!
@@joconnell8145what’s that?
OMG!!!! The best e fiel interpretação!!!
Great cover. Bravo.
Fking brilliant!
Cara, vc toca demais !! Seus cover são um dos melhores da banda!
Sua técnica e execução é invejável! Parabéns!!
Such attention to detail. Very impressed.
Watched it again tonight..Still impressed Sterling...you keep Neil alive for me.
Astonishing.
I miss those guys
This guy is the next Neil Peart

And I am back, again Nice one :)
Signals best album ✌🇧🇷
Nice m8
Just simply awesome, as usual.🍻
Beautiful work..
fantastic as always.
GOOD JOB!!
really well done. thanks.
And this is why Niel was the best drummer he was a living clock machine
Pretty tight!...except for missing the stick toss during the verse, but I think we can let that slide LOL.
it shows the influence Copeland had on Neil in the early 80's
Dam dude straight up
Sterling, have you heard the version of “The Weapon” from the Signals DVD included in the Sector 3 box set? If not, you might want to.
Signals is underrated
agreed
I don’t think any band can release a series of great albums like Rush did, for example, A Farewell To Kings-Hemispheres-Permanent Waves-Moving Pictures-Signals.
Awesome!!
Lovvvvve it!!!
Rush goes disco....
Flawless!!!
This is a song that still inspires me to start playing drums
play the drums. its fun. don’t play every day, though. you’ll play every day for like 8 months, 7 months, then you’ll run out of gas and start play call of duty 15 hours a day, and not acknowledge your drumkit. play every other day. TRY IT. take lessons first

Your left snare drum sounds incredible, identical sound. Very well 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 How did you get it ? Please share it
it’s a Paila. they usually come in pairs, and are also known as “timbales”
I just want to play this and then I will die happy.
Are you self taught? How long have you been playing?
Let me raise my (hi?) hat to you Sterling! You perfectly reproduced all the subtle nuances of that highly involved piece on all the toms and especially on the hi-hat itself. Kudos to you sir! Excellent . A difficult tune to play.
"Dig those drums...."
WOW.
