When I was a kid, people used to complain about Christmas being over commercialized. These days, Christmas is one giant commercial. I doubt half the people in America even know what it means, besides shopping and acting out their childhood Christmas again.
I mean it’s normal to hate the corruption of a good thing. Viewing Christmas through the older perspective as a holiday of the hearth where families all get together and be merry makes it much more positive philosophically.
I used to be apathetic to holiday music, then I worked retail for 4 years and learned to hate it because I'd get to listen to the same songs minimum 5 times a day. Shit made me want to run full-speed into a wall head first.
Dude, YES! And in my city I’m pretty sure every store shares the same exact Spotify mix because not only is it on repeat, it is the same EXACT songs every. single. time. in. every. single. store.
THANK YOU. was literally just about to comment this lol. vince guaraldi is so goated for christmas charlie brown ost. it’s just so beautiful and full of warmth from the sort of lofi quality that just never goes away no matter how much i listen to it. Hell i’d even say christmas time is here is one of my favorite songs in general of all time
The only Christmas music I listen to semi consistantly is Julian Kostners Singing Saw Christmas, Its just classic Christmas carols but played on a quartet of sing saws
That, I am become christmas by lemon demon, winter music from video games, and Christmastime trainwreck by outward alien are the only exceptions to the rule imo.
The only christmas song I do like is Sabatons Christmas truce. Not just because it's a Sabaton song but because it doesn't focus on christmas too much but of the temporary truce it brought on on the western front. It sings of one of the greatest gifts of that time, a momentaty peace in a war with no end in sight.
Lmao it's like the same concept as putting your favorite song as a wake-up alarm. But yeah any music played at work will automatically be bad, unless it's something I put on haha
I remember working retail and listening to a different rendition to "Baby it's cold outside" for the fifth time in a three hour shift, during the third week of December. Corporate asked how we felt about it, and when we complained, corporate replied, "bUt iTs wHaT tHe cUsToMeRs wAnT!" So glad I don't work there anymore
first of all, i am so sorry that sounds like hell. second, whoever these customers are have the same energy as whoever apparently likes fake pockets enough to incentivize clothing manufacturers to keep making them.
To be honest the only Christmas Songs I really enjoyed growing up were the ones from the old 1950's and 60's Rudolph Films and that one "One Foot in front of the other" with the Ice King. Other than that mainly enjoy the Holiday for the home cooked spread and time w/ the Family.
My first "real job" was stacking product in a grocery story. The real hell was hearing the same generic bland music playlist that played in the store, because the store manager though it would be nice to have some background music for shoppers... which I guess is okay when you come there to shop for about an hour and leave, but not when you have to be there for 40 hours a week.
Despite the cartoon and especially Jim Carrey movie completely missing the simple point of Christmas from the book, "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is honestly the one Christmas song I love.
I'd say I actually enjoy christmas music up to the point of owning a few christmas albums. What I find tremendously annoying though is the inescapable Christmas music in public spaces, where they seem to consistently blend the most awful classics with the most annoying christmas songs of this year to make shopping an even more awful expreience than it usually is while giving you no way of escaping it and getting it stuck in your head (the mere metion of all I want for christmas in this video has it playing on repeat in my brain rn)
There is so much good Christmas that goes unheard. Oi to the world, James Brown Christmas, Bad Religion, Badd Santa compilation has so many Christmas bangers
Yall ever think bout how much you hate christmas music but the second a Rankin Bass movie comes on your eyes are glued to the screen, is is that just me?
maybe I might be considered an idiot for saying it in a circle like this since most of my taste is mostly influenced by the fact I don't go outside much or listen to anything considered "normal"; I enjoy Charlie Brown Christmas music, maybe if it was played day in and out 24/7 I'd probably go mad since some stores play them but as of now I think it's probably safe to say, I'm also thinking that Christmas carols
after working in retail for 10 years, christmas music does my head in. i don’t mind a little bit at home on christmas day but other than that its like vietnam flashbacks to lugging christmas trees around at b&q
Sure, Christmas music are integral to make people happy, cuz December is the darkest month of the year, but I despise it when Christmas music were constantly played on the poppy radio stations I adore. Like with Christmas specials, the constant plays of the same song/program over actual shit we're into was a huge issue before streaming existed. I'm just thankful that Spotify and other music platforms exist, so I can listen to anything I desire without 'UP ON THE ROOFTOPS, CLICK CLICK CLICK!' blasting through my eardrums. But aside from Halloween and Easter, Christmas was butchered to become corporately clean and innocent, as consumerism overflowed these holidays, and turned twisted to make a profit. My series made for streaming would have non-canon Halloween and Christmas specials detailing the problem, and how they veiled their true intentions(whether it's Halloween being of Celtic origin to celebrate the Fall Equinox known as Samhain, or Christmas renowned for it's title of Jesus Christ's birth, with certain phrases such as Noel or Yuel originating from Christianity).
in my country chistmass music is only playes for like 3 weeks a year cause theres another holiday before that. maybe thats why i dont hate it. i dont look forward to it, but when they come on theyre pretty catchy. the radio at my workplace just pretty much plays the same 20 pop songs all year. mixing in some christmass actually makes it more diverse.
I blame it on 3 things: Christmas stuff starts way too early. I'm always absolutely sick of Christmas in general before the holyday has even started. Would be fine if it lasted 2 weeks, but we're subjected to this shit for 2 months! I'm sick of hearing the same set of songs endlessly repackaged and replayed every single year. There are some Christmas songs I actually like, but I never get to hear those. Nothing but obnoxiously cheerful music at the time of year that my mental health is always at its absolute worst, and I am borderline incapable of feeling happiness. A perfect setup to maximize alienation. I need more Christmas themed black metal!
The soundtrack for A Charlie Brown Christmas by Vince Guaraldi, the I Am Become Christmas album by Lemon Demon, Christmastime Trainwreck by Outward Alien, and winter music from video games are the only christmas music I enjoy. Everything mainstream I hate. "All I want for christmas is you", "Hark the herald angel sing", "Santa Baby", "Little Drummer Boy", etc all drive me nuts
There is a lot of great Christmas music, shops just dont know how to pick good playlists. Frank Sinatra made some really great Christmas songs back in the day, and today there are even some good metal christmas songs like Christmas Truce from Sabaton or that Christmas Carol album by Majestica
A big thing for me with the Christmas music is two fold it's the fact that I would never normally want to listen to the majority of Christmas music at any time anyway cuz ya know it's lame and then to have it forced on you like "this what you should be listening to at this and only this specific time of year, and you're a Bah Humbug if you don't like Bing Crosby" just makes me turn music I'm otherwise indifferent towards into a source of hated
There is a Finnish christmas song called hei tonttu-ukot hyppikää (hey elfs, jump) wich basically tells about how much suffer and misery christmas elf's life is:DD
My favorite Christmas song is "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas." It's my favorite because hippopotami are some of the deadliest animals in Africa and I pretend that the singer wants one to use on her bully at school.
When I hear the opening notes of "Jingle Bell Rock" and Rockin Around the Christmas Tree (not looking up the name) it feels like someone is opening the back of my pants and actively shitting in them without my consent. I live in the South, I can't even remember what snow looks like and I sure as hell don't want to hear sleigh bells.
im not opposed to christmas music or hearing the same 3 songs or so. Quite the opposite it helps me set into the christmas mood especially if the ground is already heavily covered in snow which is not guaranteed every year like in my childhood. Thanks climate change and humanity 😐 But looks like it will be a snowy christmas this year which I'm happy for
I enjoy some Christmas music, mainly Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney. I'd rather listen to other actually good music instead of Christmas music, but Christmas generally does make me happy for some reason, despite all the consumerism.
As a Christian, I’ve for have become more disillusioned by the generic, commercialized “holiday” music. But I’ve found splice in the hymns of old that actually contain a religious connection.
Im somewhat conflicted. The company I work for has to branches near each other and while one of them is undeniably better its also really annoying to have to listen to the same song 5 TIMES IN 8 HOURS. Its ludicrous that they cant simply find good music, given that they are a huge supermarket chain.
All jokes aside, we should start promoting good music for Christmas. The album "Christmas Songs" by Bad Religion it's a great choice for these holidays.
Earworm's, those tunes that get stuck in your head, that play over and over till you're on the verge of suicide. Still not sure what that is? Think of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey. Oh sorry, forget I mentioned it.
I hate Christmas music. I was never the biggest fan of it but now i can't stand it. I decorated my daughter's Christmas tree to metal. The only exception for me is Christmas truce by sabaton, maybe tso.
As someone who worked retail for seven years, I HATED it because I was forced to listen to it at around this time. Now, I’m just kinda neutral to it because it’s not shoved down my throat. Doesn’t mean I’m gonna go out of my way to listen to it. I still don’t think that much of it is good
I like "White Christmas" "Carol of the Bells" "O Holy Night" "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" "Do You See What I See" "Silent Night" "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime" "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" and "O Come O Come Emmanuel"
When you hear so many ads you start hating them on a philosophical level that is when you start disliking Christmas music.
When you work retail its impossible not to develop PTSD from them
When I was a kid, people used to complain about Christmas being over commercialized. These days, Christmas is one giant commercial. I doubt half the people in America even know what it means, besides shopping and acting out their childhood Christmas again.
Relatable

If Die Hard is a Christmas movie, does that mean Screaming Eagles is a Christmas song?
Why screaming Eagles? The story of that song doesnt happen during christmas time, its about the allied push against the German during WW2
My first "real job" was stacking product in a grocery story. It's worse now that they use a stream playlist. Every single store has the same list running on a different start time.
