ALLLLL THE PEOPLE
Blurs Modern Life Is Rubbish is genuinely an amazing record, really forward thinking for 1993 and kinda set the trend for bands to come after that. Criminally underrated record in the Britpop space.
100% 👍, Chemical world is insane!!
Yes, Blur was by far the best band in that scene anyway. Parklife was also great, then they went experimental with the self-titled and even more so with 13. This change in sound made Damon want to venture into other genres too, and so Gorillaz was born.
@@laurisaarinen1126 I also like Elastica
Britpop is like pop, but Brit. Idk I think so I’m just doing my best to make sense of the chaotic world I was thrust into against my will.
nice pfp
Pulp's This is hardcore is also pretty representative of the death of britpop. It draws from the usual influences of britpop, but it's DARK, bloody disillusioned.
And unlike Be here now it's a fantastic album
Blur beat them by 1 year on their shite self titled album

My favourite creation from britpop is the single "Wibbling Rivalry" by Oas*s (not a joke, that's who it was released under). It's literally just an argument between Noel and Liam during an interview. It holds the record as the highest charting interview in the UK (52nd on the singles chart)
why did you put an asterisk in Oasis
@vbgfcdrtdggtfjhugyufry That's who it was released under, the person who released it literally released it as being by Oas*s
@@vbgfcdrtdggtfjhugyufry I looked it up and the single was released by Oasis under the name Oas*s. So OP isn't being silly, it's just literally how the name it was released under
lmao noel and liam were a recipe for disaster from the start, noel always got pissed off super easily and liam enjoyed pissing people off (probably still does)

Yes
Definitely Maybe is the best album to come out of Britpop- it’s so great.
I'd honestly go with Suede's Dog Man Star released the same year. But I love Definitely Maybe as well.
Def maybe, morning glory and urban hymns are masterpieces
The Stone Roses debut album is better than all of them
@@GNAL1610 I didn’t know that counted, if so then definitely. The Stone Roses album is the best album of all time.
@@lamondlense Yeah it's not really Brit Pop although Oasis (mainly Liam) modelled themselves on The Stone Roses (or Ian Brown)
Not to be that guy factchecking a comedy video, but one of the core facts here is backwards-- Blur's Country House outsold Oasis's Roll With It by 50k copies, not the other way around. Oasis would go on to sell more records as a whole, hence the common perception that "one won the battle, one won the war" (and then the ensuing debate about the rest of their careers making that even murkier) but that specific singles battle which coined the name "The Battle of Britpop" went in Blur's favor.
Blur won the battle of britpop not Oasis. Country House outsold Roll With It by 58,000 copies
Oasis won the war

This video is the only concrete evidence we have that British people are real. If it didn’t exist we wouldn’t know
Blur sold 50,000 more copies of country house than roll with it, i think you got it the wrong way round; oasis didnt sell more copies of roll with it than blur. Doesnt change the fact that a few months later oasis swept blur under the rug with whats the story morning glory!
I remember hearing this about the battle-”Blur won the Battle, Oasis won the Wonderwall”
i gotta say that altho blur was definitely more influenced by shoegaze at the beginning they were still very much drawing from british music on leisure and it’s pretty noticeable.
I’ve been waiting for this one !!
Ok but in fairness, the universal from blur is a genuine masterpiece and I will not allow its slander
I like Be Here Now...reminds me of prog rock
Same a lot of hidden gems in that album
There are definitely good on the album that I enjoy
Really good video, would be interesting on your take on the Libertines
13 is the greatest Blur album.

I'm an American and I always liked albarns style. Jarvis was a little ridiculous but his music kinda made up for it
One of the best American indie bands nowadays, IDKHOW, has a frontman that looks almost exactly like Jarvis Cocker
@@aprofondir yeah lol discovering Pulp as an IDKHOW fan was wild! suddenly a lot about Dallon's stage persona/general vibe made much more sense.
Thanks for this video, I really enjoyed it while using the toilet
I would hate to 🤓 but I think what made the Britpop battle between oasis and blur such a fascinating piece of history was the almost war between the represented middle vs lower class British Citizens. I'm Australian so initial I didn't give a fuck for 90s British acts but that was such an explosion of creativity and media the likes of which I honestly don't think we will see again. Like honestly go back and listen to the great escape by blur it is fucking insanity the fact that album not only topped charts but had massive singles off it like a song like Country House could not succeed today it is just so strange and corny but so catchy. Its my go to song whenever I'm stoned tbh but man what a fascinating time of music history that was. Don't get me started on Jarvis cocker taking the piss on MJ before he was even outed and the masterpiece that is This Is Hardcore (goat)
Please do a video on Sonic Youth
In addition to the Spice Girls, Radiohead and The Verve, The Prodigy also dropped "The Fat of the Land" in 1997, an album that almost definitely acted as a gateway for a lot of former Britpop fans to get into electronic music
Did u make the backing track to this vid
Can you do power metal?
Why do people think they are superior because they don’t listen to oasis like it ain’t that deep
Bro what music DO you like
Love britpop, greetings from Brazil!
What do you think about Placebo who was also pop and brit and around about the same era but kinda of an outlier in the scene. I was a big fan during my teenage years but their music has been underwhelming ever since they went to therapy or got old or whatever.
I love Placebo too!! I wouldn't call them britpop though, as only 1 member was actually British despite forming in London, a lot of their influences are American (no britpop band cited Sonic Youth or the Pixies as an influence) and Brian Molko stood against a sexist(?) undertone of the britpop scene at its prime.
Also, they only overlapped with britpop by 1996-97, later the scene was over but Placebo still went on. Their first 5 albums are very special to me. Sorry for the really long reply ;)
They were alternate rock.
i loved when you called Sleeper "Sleepy"
You gotta appreciate at least the media was selling musicians that were being themselves, instead of so many musicians that are made for sales from the start today.
I actually would love to hear you rip into Cold Play.
whats the name of the i love sough meme
Blur won the battle of Britpop, not Oasis. The whole last two minute is just not really accurate. WTH?
I think this is to signpost that this is- in fact- largely a joke. I, for one, am grateful for this.

I am so happy
Blur won that chart battle with Oasis btw
epic vid
In all seriousness though the songs were awesome and Oasis is one of the greatest bands of all time.
Imagine a world where there is no UA-cam or Spotify or any kind of social media and the outlets for music are out of your control with what they play. Then imagine a type of music that is not really your thing, but it's the only music that is played everywhere. I mean everywhere; radio, TV, record stores, clubs, pubs even buskers in the street. Was your favorite rock night at one of the clubs in town, now replaced with a load of drunk blokes shouting the lyrics to wonderwall in your ear. Even in the newspapers and national news you have to hear about who will get number one blur or oasis. That is what it was like living in the world of Britpop. Don't even get me started on TFI Friday.

PUPL MENTIONED 😦
Coolea please PLEASE make a video about hipsters
Why did you say quote on quote culture???? Britain is an ancients country with so much culture its unreal, so many different cultures alone and the modern art exports have probably made British culture the single most popular....
Genuine question, could Pablo Honey and The Bends by Radiohead be considered Britpop? I've seen numerous people say they're britpop albums but I genuinely don't hear it
Yes. Most british indie bands from the early to late 90s were considered Britpop. Although Britpop imo isn't really a real genre since bands in the Britpop era were of all different genres. Suede were glam, Supergrass were punk and Radiohead, before Ok Computer, were more grungy. Hope this helped
Pablo Honey its more like a grunge album. The Bends in my opinion fits the "Britpop" label. From OK Computer onwards its a diferent thing
i think it’s just because they were a popular british indie band in the 90s, and there was a lot of overlap between radiohead fans and fans of classic britpop bands
HP Sauce.
Mmm
1:49 That transition though lmao
As a British kid my dad would hate this video but I think it's halarious 😂❤

0:34 might be the most honest and relatable seconds in yt history
So I see what you are doing here.. however some corrections
1) it’s Sleeper and not Sleepy
2) Blur won the battle with Country House going to number one. I think however the resulting albums did the reverse
3) I think you’ve missed some cultural context. Britpop was of course tied up with the ‘Cool Britannia’ scene, which wasn’t just about music (and you rightly say the Spice Girls picked it up and ran with it), but it was wrapped up in the country just feeling good about itself for the first time in decades - think the genuine joy in the country around Euro 96, the Labour Govt ending decades of Conservative rule with their ‘Things Can Only Get Better’ moment. Was it marketed up the wazoo? Definitely. But Blur, Suede, Oasis, and Pulp resonate and still create music to this day (and Pulp existed a long time before this movement). I’d also suggest it wasn’t so much a reaction against Shoegaze, but a continuation of ‘Madchester’ with big record labels trying to recreate The Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses
*YES*
didnt country house outsell roll with it
