I have a real soft spot for the 3DS and the Wii U. To me, they represent a time when Nintendo was struggling and they were purring their heart out in everything they did.
I think so too. Now all nintendo cares about is pushing switch and it's not like it's considered the best console ever. I liked the switch in years 2017-2018 but the wii u and 3ds are the prime kings of nintendo in my opinion.
I really enjoyed how the games are great because of what they mean to you and not just technical stats. I've taken my 3DS around the world and it's meant so much to me.
Your videos made me buy a used, mint condition new 3ds xl for way more money than I should've spent. I had an OG 3ds which I gave away around MK7, but I've missed dual screen gaming A LOT, after owning every Nintendo handheld since the GBC. It's probably my favorite solo way to play, way more than big screen gaming. Thank you, and happy holidays.
I'm so sorry I was part of the reason you spent so much money. I just love the 3DS so much. It's my favorite way to play solo as well. Thanks for coming back to watch.
@@NeanderMeander it's okay I got it no scratches IPS top screen new battery and original box for 220 with a few boxed games, i think it's a good deal. Keep up the good content.
@@charleskuhn382 that’s great you got it for around $200. It sucks how nowadays Nintendo and the people controlling the market for Nintendo consoles have kept the 3ds/2ds prices pretty high. As high of a cost as a new switch system and even 2x the price of one for an older console which is just not worth it at all for those prices.
I don't think I've gone more than a week without playing my 3DS since I first got mine in 2013 with A Link Between Worlds. To me, it represents the Nintendo spirit far more than something like the Switch, and I'll always cherish the many memories I made with this lovable little system.
This was an incredible video. I loved the storytelling and visual aids. Watching this made me want to go back and find my 3DS just to play these games again!
Man I never comment but I had to let you know! The quality and story telling of your vids are superb. I personally love all the 3ds content since I have many similar memories with the system myself. Keep up the great work!
The 3ds is very special to me as well, the 999 series and the phoenix wright series especially are gems I always replay, but theres just so many good ones to name as honorable mentions, devil survivor, smt iv, bowsers inside story, fire emblem echoes, etc. It just keeps on giving!
Still playing it right now. Went into a complete ATLUS binge (SmT 4, 4A, Soul Hackers, Etrian Odyssey Untold 1 & 2, both Persona Q). And there are still games I still have yet to play (Majora's Mask, Luigi's Mansion, Fire Emblem Fates, plus a whole backlog of retro games). Such a beautiful little device
Unpopular opinion: Majora's Mask is better, and holds better, by today's standards. I also played Ocarina the first time just recently and too be honest at some moments it was a chore and I had to look things up. Majora's Mask could be remastered and sold today to new players.
The quality of this video is out of this world, so I'd like to share my appreciation by commenting. The 3DS holds a special place in my heart for being one of the few things that actually filled me with wonder. It made me experience amazing worlds and allowed me to take my first steps in franchises such as Super Mario, Zelda and Pokémon. I got to play all time classics as well as more modern ones with that console. It was such a great console that when my OG 3DS got stolen I didn't flinch to get a new one. Now my New 3DS XL is one of my most cherished possessions. So thank you a lot for highlighting what an amazing and lovable little thing it is.
Thank you so much for saying such nice things about this video. The 3DS really brought me back into gaming. If it hadn't have been for the excellent library of games and having access to the retro games on the Virtual Console, I probably wouldn't be playing games today. It's a wonderful little device. I'm glad you like it too
The 3DS is and will probably always be my favorite handheld ever. While I love and play my Switch a lot, it’s because I have a backlog of new games I want to go through. But as far as the device itself goes…. The way the 3DS XL feels in my hands is unmatched. I do prefer the more stable solid feeling of the original 3DS, the XL is just curvy and fits perfectly. The game library is unmatched and that is more than nostalgia speaking when I say that. Usually once a new gen console comes out I move on to that almost exclusively but I’ll never let go of my 3DS. It’s gotten me through so many tough time and where it doesn’t rely on Wi-Fi nearly as much as the Switch and battery life is still killer, when I’m on a long haul flight or ride there is nothing else I’d rather have. I remember I’d get so excited when my StreetPass notifications popped up. That was such an awesome feature. I’m 36 now and my son will be 18 tomorrow. I remember when her was 5 or 6, he and I both wanted a DS or 3DS. I saved and saved and saved, going to college and working as a single mom at 23 with a 5 year old, picking up overtime and odd jobs until I could save the money. I wouldn’t buy myself one until I had the money for both of us to get them. I remember him doing chores for allowance from me and other family, and he was so so so intent on helping me save up the money, not realizing the allowance he got from me wasn’t just coming from thin air and it was coming from the same place. I never told him and we did it together. We both got DSi XL’s and we had a BLAST! It taught my son the value of hard work, money and saving… and I got a priceless treasured experiences with my kid that we still hold dear today. Now I log into his account on Switch to cook meals for him in BotW to make sure he always has enough lol. I’m sorry for the long convoluted story but these memories just kept flooding in. The DS and 3DS will forever have a special place in my heart and I have no reason to not keep playing it today. ❤
Wow, this was a great read. Thank you for sharing! I can't even imagine having a 5 year old at 23. It's sounds like you've grown through the tough times. It's really nice reading that gaming brought you closer to your son. That's really great! The 3DS mean so much to so many people. It's sad to see Nintendo leaving it behind. Though, through modding, it will never go away. Thank you again
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a video like yours, and in the age of constant content oversaturation, that is sincerely a compliment. Keep up the awesome work!
Randomly found this channel by chance, and it’s quickly become my favorite channel. I love the camera work and vibe you’ve got going on with your work.
I’m excited to dive into my 3ds more in 2023. I played Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon last year and loved it. I’m a big Donkey Kong fan so I’m excited to play through that game as well. Great list and love how you related them back to times in your life
I haven’t played Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon yet. I’ve had it for a while, just haven’t prioritize time for it. I’ll have to do it this year. I’m a big Donkey Kong Country fan too! Hopefully you’ll like DKCR. Thanks for watching the video! It’s always good to see you here.
Man i just discovered your channel and just loving all the videos, youve created this homely/interesting/nostralgic superblend of Nintendo videos im just vibing too! Look forward to more!
Watching your videos really inspired me to re-buy a new 3ds xl after 7 years. I bought the hyrule themed new 3ds xl, and funny enough, it has dual ips screens.
I can agree with you to a point. I played DKC Returns on the Wii many times before the 3DS version was released. It's very playable on the Wii. But, for me, it's better on the 3DS. Changing the Wii remote waggle to a button press was something I wanted to badly on the Wii version. I'm excited to play the HD release on the Switch.
Thank you so much for coming back to watch this video. I loved working on it! It's first one I did with the black background. Most of my videos have followed that format since I made this one. I'm was happy to read that you've watched it more than once. That means so much to me.
Yo dude! Just found your channel after just getting my first 3ds and wanted to find some good games for it. It is absolutely criminal that u only have 8k subscribers! Great video and outstanding production quality!! Keep it up!
@@nukazee1251 I really appreciate you saying such nice things. I really try and make my videos interesting. I created to channel to change how people look at gaming videos. Instead sitting in front of a shelf of games or gaming consoles, I thought it would be nice to just showcase the games and consoles, if that makes sense. Because they don't move, the camera does. I'm in the process of shooting another video right now. I just got a new camera and lighting rig, so we'll see how this one goes. It's a much newer camera than the one I was using, so it's taken some time to get used to it. You'll have to let me know what you think of the new video.
@@NeanderMeander I don’t know how it can get much better but I will be counting the days till it comes out!. But also Dw man, you deserve all the praise and your videos are everything they need to be and more.
Thank you so much! I honestly appreciate your kind words. They take a lot of work to make, hearing nice things about them makes it worth the effort. Thank you again
One game that I think is worth recognizing along with the rest of these is Kid Icarus: Uprising. This game had a full, well-voice-acted story, 25 chapters, interesting gameplay, multiple online modes, multiple gameplay types, and well over 100 weapons that can be fine-tuned through a massive weapon crafting system. Every level is fun, the gameplay is snappy, completion feels both fun and rewarding, thanks to the completion illustrations, and this was all wrapped up in one of the most charming, well-developed presentations that Nintendo has EVER pulled out of an original IP. Take ALL of this, and compact it into a 3DS game from 2012, and you somehow end up with one of the most engaging experiences on the console, and even within Nintendo history, if you ask me.
I love the 3Ds-Family of consoles and have too many of them. To be honest, i dont have enough of them, i want them all >:) The 3Ds was my childhood. Without that console, I wouldnt be the person I am today. My grandma had one and played Animal Crossing on it. Recently got her a Nintendo Switch so she can continue her Animal Crossing shenanigans on her own Island ^^ The 3Ds was just perfect. Thank you for making videos about them and keeping them alive, Neander. Edit: and much respect for answering to every comment there is. Edit2: you are one of the first channels I subscribed to. Thank you yet again for all of the 3ds videos!
That’s amazing to hear that I’m one of the first channels you decided to subscribe to. Thank you so much! It really means a lot. I don’t think I’ll ever have enough 3DS systems either. I just love them so much. Your grandma sounds like she is a really fun person. My grandma doesn’t play any video games. I bet it’s great to be around her. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I hope to see you here for future videos.
I recently finished buying every physical copy of 2DS/DS games I want to play, after I bough my first 2DS at the start of November. I set myself a goal to play them all in 2023, can't wait to have a great year with it!
@@NeanderMeander For sure! Thanks to you I fell in love with the DS consoles again in the first place. So far I've played Super Mario 3D Land, Kirby Planet Robobot and Monster Hunter XX...I absolutely love my 2DS. Thank you for convincing me through your content, keep up the amazing work!
@@A_d_e_k That's so awesome! I'm glad my videos had some positive impact on you. I'm just glad you're getting into the DS and 3DS. I recently bought Planet Robobot. I've heard it's really good. Did you like it?
@@NeanderMeander I am very big fan of Kirby. Also bought the Amiibo of Robobot recently. I cried at the ending...it was genuinely one of the best games I've ever played. Kirby has such a unique flair and charm, that for me personally (when speaking solely about Nintendo products) only Metroid surpasses. I haven't played any Zelda game yet, so I exclude Link from the discussion (for now, as I will play many Zelda titles in 2023). Kirby is an alien creature, strong, brave and always on the way to help others...but also looks cute, and doesn't really understand how difficult, full of hardship and universal proves of strenght his achievements actually are. These elements combined with the low key sense of darkness his games have...it's really a unique and deep contrast. I could go on for hours talking about how Kirby is in my opinion a miracle in the industry of videogaming (thanks to the amazing creators and workers at HAL Studios) alongside Samus from the Metroid series. I am sure you will really like Robobot.
What an amazing video and really amazing console, i remember i bought it in the 2016 the new 3DS in bundle with Xenoblade Chronicles 3D and it was one of the best investments of all time for me, i really enjoyed almost all the games that were released, those you mentioned are really really great, but there are many others like kirby, paper mario, metal gear solid snake eater, super smash bros, ever oasis, dragon quest VII and VIII, luigi's mansion and many others. Man what a console! You got a new subscriber :)
I wish I had thought to bring one of my portable consoles back when I got stuck in Minneapolis, Minnesota a few years ago flying home. We got stuck for about 5 hours waiting for a rain storm to clear in Houston so we could take off. So I understand what you went through. All I had at the time was my phone though but no charger so I couldn’t play games on it.
Oh no! That's rough. I was lucky to have my 3DS with me at the time. I've been stuck in Minneapolis a few times because of weather. It's super cold up there in the winter.
(I'll leave a proper comment in a tick!) Anyway I reside in St Paul Minnesota, and HOLY PEACHES ITS COLD! I totally understand! I type this as its 1 below at current and it was -10 F last night! Then again we're so used to it (couple years ago it was even -41 in the cities and a record -61 in International Falls(wayy up north-but holy peaches brrrrrr!!!)and currently there's always snow plows and other measures.
@@SkakinBaconMedia It's crazy cold up there! I've had to travel to Minnesota every 6 months for the past 9 years. I dread getting up there at the end of February. I've never been so cold in all my life.
What i love most is modding it for DS games. Every Nintendo handheld in one device is incredible. 3DS prices are starting to skyrocket, and im not surprised. Ill be hanging onto mine no matter what.
We have very different tastes. For myself it’s the sega games like outrun, super hang on, galaxy force 2, sonic 2, streets of rage 2, and shinobi 3 which look amazing in 3d and with a decent pair of headphones. I also have a soft spot for the Kirby games and all the virtual console stuff as well.
I was so anxious to see a new video from you, Ive played Super Mario 3d land, I loved it so much! Metroid Samus returns was amazing, that game and dread made me fell even more in love with the franchise, all the games that you mentioned are fantastic. Love your videos.
Your videos and your love for the 3DS always bring a smile to my face. You're the reason that I decided to chase variants for the 3DS. A decision I definitely don't regret. Your passion is infectious. My list is very similar to yours. In no particular order 1. Super mario 3D Land 2. The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time 3. Kirby Planet Robobot 4. Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology 5. Pokemon Ultra Sun Thanks for another banger of a video. Happy holidays and I hope your 2023 is full of awesome 3DS experiences. ^^
@@NeanderMeander Oh man you will definitely love it. I also put it off for a long time and was kind of going into it not believing the hype. But its definitely worthy of all the praise. Enjoy it my dude!
The best part of the 3ds is that it fits in your pocket!! Taking my switch or Steam Deck out feels like such a chore, I've left it at home most times because it's just not practical to carry around with you. I can throw my 3ds in my cost pocket and totally forget it's even there until I need to use it
I agree with you 100%! I’ve also left my Switch behind because it’s big. Even with a backpack, the 3DS takes up hardly any room and delivers high quality gaming.
What I like the most about NEW 3DS XL, and what makes it my favourite handheld ever, is that games are designed for handheld gameplay, something Switch lacks. For example try playing the castle level of Luigi Mansion 3 on handheld on the switch, and you will realize the difference between a game designed for TV gameplay with handheld option, and playing Luigi Mansion 2 on New 3DS XL
I'm really curious what you mean and what makes luigi's mansion 3 or other games better suited for tv console play, could you elaborate please? I've never played luigi's mansion, neither 2 nor 3, and I've never owned a (3)ds - I'm inspired to buy one from watching these videos tho. But all the games I play on switch I play on handheld mode and they're fine that way. It only feels weird to me when I'm playing some retro games, e. g from the NES/SNES collection, not just the aspect ratio that doesn't fill the screen but also the feeling that they are meant for a very different controller form factor and size and it just feels like I'd enjoy them more on their original console with the original controllers
i Absolutely love this video and i couldn't believe that you do not have at least 1 mil subs judging by your outstanding production value and the quality of your vids keep up the awesome work
Great video as always. There's a 60FPS Mario64 hacked 3DS version out there I can recommend if you wanna give the whole game a shot. Plays really well and even the 3D effect is super immersive.
My new nintendo 3ds falled and didn’t work anymore. Yesterday I ordered a brandnew new nintendo 3ds for 150 euro! Thanks for another great upload. Have a great holiday!
@@NeanderMeander Respect My Guy....I respect your top 5 as well....I own them all except 3D World...Now what I'm in search for is the double pack amiibos of Samus and The Metroid...I beat the game on both difficulties but the Metroid amiibo unlocks 🔑 the final difficulty.
Most of my 3DS consoles are not modded. I don't really have a reason why other than I don't play them all the time. I play my Fire Emblem Fates special edition New 3DS XL regularly. I like keeping that one stock because it's a special edition. I know that's a silly reason, but it's my motive. I did mod my purple New 2DS XL. It's been great playing games on it.
@@NeanderMeander Thank you for responding I really do appreciate it, the real true reason I asked that question is because of something that is dangling around my head for almost a week now. Before I was buying physical games for my 3DS but now i'm baffled if I should continue so. Now that I realised their is something where you can just easily mod your 3DS and play any games i'm confused if I should continue buying physical games or just mod my 3DS. I also before was gonna buy my very first switch and since I knew about that you can mod your 3DS I realised if I should even buy a switch anymore because of emulators. So i'm currently in a tight situation if I should buy a switch and buy physical games for my 3DS or just mod my 3DS and use an emulator. I just wish it was like old times it was simple as if you buy a game you have it forever no emulation or mods. If you know that what I should do please do not hesitate to respond and I would much appreciate it.
@@MrRixMan344 I guess it depends on your budget. I personally buy games whenever possible, but that's just me. I have modded my New 2DS XL, but have rarely used it after I modded it. That's partially due to me really getting into the Switch lately. I love the Switch and recommend it to everybody. The games available for it are unlike any other ever made. The two Zelda games alone are worth buying a Switch. Let me know what you decide. Do what you think is best.
@@NeanderMeander thank you for responding, i'm now highly sure that I will get a switch, but i'm just wondering because you said that you will buy games for your 3DS whenever possible but you have a modded 3DS so i'm not sure what's the best, because I see people have a modded console and as well buy games for the console so what's the point? I just want to play titles like Mario & Zelda but just getting confused by the minute because of mods and emulators. Apart inside is telling me that I should just buy the offical product or use mods or emulators its a mix. What do you think is better getting the offical product or using mods and emulators?
Hi, this is the first time that I come across your video and the storytelling and music is mindblowing. really good quality content. I'll look into your other video
@@mezomoza7 The music in the factory levels is so good! I loved getting to that one. Knocking the robot chickens down when you press the switches was amazing.
I just discovered your channel, and it is absolutely amazing. I love the arts, and your camerawork/cinematography combined with the pacing of your voice make these videos actual art! And your genuine passion really comes through! So, bravo! Regarding the 3ds, I actually only have a 2ds, and I havn't gotten many games for it. While meditating on your videos, I realized that I was kind of waiting to get a New 3ds before playing some of the great games that you mentioned here! But they are pricey! So, I am treading water at the moment. But I just wanted to say that you are great! And I loved your video about the Switch as well. I kept delaying in getting one, because I thought the price would come down. That was a mistake, lol! But your point about how Ninetendo used to make double the games when they had two systems was something that I have not heard any gaming media outlet mention. Nor have I heard any big youtuber mention it. And I have not heard anybody mention the uniqueness of portable games from the past -- and how sad it is that we don't get them anymore. So, not only are your videos great, but you always have a unique perspective! Keep up the great work!
Wow, this was a joy to read! Thank you so very much! These videos are really involved, taking a while to put together. Reading your lovely comment made it all worth it. I’m also happy you watched my other video about the Switch. I love the portable games Nintendo made in the past. I wish they were still making those portable focused games. Hopefully they will go back to making those great games. Thank you again for watching and leaving such a wonderful comment! I honestly appreciate it.
@@NeanderMeander Awesome!!! I'm happy that my comment made you happy! And yeah, it makes sense to me that these videos would take a long time for you to make. They're some of the most visually striking pieces of content that I've seen on youtube! And yeah, I wish Nintendo would make portable games too! Keep up the truly excellent work!!! :)
I absolutely LOVE the 3ds! Super mario 3d land, mk7, link between worlds, luigis mansion dark moon, metroid, kirby ect. So many memories. Also i had pretty much the same experience as you did with OOT, hated it at first when i played it in 2011 for the first time. I put it down for a few years, came back to it and loved it so much. It is the best version of the game imo also!
I’m glad I’m not the only one that didn’t like OOT at first. It turned out to be one of my most favorite games. There’s so many other 3DS games I need to play, including Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon.
3DS is the one thing I don't think I could live without. I've had this thing since I was 7. Now I'm 18, trying to buy all the games I've missed over the years because I either couldn't afford them or didn't realize the greatness of them at the time. I've got about 3 months to scrap together around $500-$600. So far I've gotten Oot, FE: Awakening, Ace Attorney Trilogy, Kid Icarus Uprising, and RE: Revelations. Next up will probably be Majora's Mask, SMT IV, Bravely Default, and some Pokemon game.
It's nice to see someone else with such an appreciation for handheld gaming. Your job seems to have you travel a lot; mind me asking what it is you do?
I travel quite a bit for work. I work for a factory that has products in stores and online across the US and Canada. I mainly stick to overseeing how the product is doing in the lower 48 states.
This video is great, you picked some excellent titles and this was a joy to watch. Even after March 2023 I will still be playing mine, even take it with me just in case i get a street pass. Hands down my number 1 portable console.
There are so many people that think like you and me. The 3DS is an amazing handheld that really should have lived on longer with a successor or new revision. The Switch is great and I love having those games with me, but Switch games weren't designed to be portable games. That's why I'll be carrying my 3DS around with me for the foreseeable future. Thanks for watching
DUUUUDE NO WAY!! I’ve been trying to figure out what 3DS games I want to pick up for the past couple of weeks, scouring through a bunch of lists, so this is perfect bro. Merry Christmas homie 🎄
Bravely Default and Bravely Second are the best RPGs on the 3DS! Best turn based combat you'll ever play, that it'll ruin erry other game for you lol. Plus, the game is 99% fully voice acted! I no-lifed those 2 games back-to-back and completed them both in the span of 30 days a few months ago
I spent so many hours playing monster Hunter 4 ultimate, fire emblem, super smash bros, and Zelda. It’s a beast of a console with some of the greatest games on there that could last you a lifetime
Dang your b-roll shots are so good! Especially that reflection shot of the galaxy 3DS 10:30 I believe I own all of these games but have only played half of them. In a similar way that you waited to play ocarina I feel like there is a time and place to play the best of the best. I especailly am waiting to play a link between worlds untill I beat a link to the past. Ocarina I have started several times both on emulators and 3ds. I always find a point where I get that "stuck" feeling and put it down. Each time however I get farther, and enjoy my time playing because I know where I'm going. I think on my current save I'm at the shadow temple. I will say that Ocarina 3D has some of the best visuals I've seen on the 3DS. The green just feels so vibrant in kokiri forest (especially with IPS) and the 3D really jumps out at you I also completed Samus Returns. I try to complete games but usually get burned out in the process and put them down. This game however made it so intuitive to explore with it's wonderful map system that I had no issue getting all the collectables 3D Land is just down right well executed, especially the boss fights. the lava and 3d graphics make the whole scene super epic and cinematic. It's hard for me to speak about specifics because the whole felt universally good. Thx for another great vid! As always your channel is criminally underrated
Thank you so much for coming back! I was wondering if you had watched this video yet. I really like how that shot turned out too. Sometimes things lineup with the lighting and make it look like I know what I'm doing. Waiting to play A Link to the Past before A Link Between Worlds is a smart idea. I think you will appreciate the game more. I actually played A Link Between Worlds before I played A Link to the Past. It was fun seeing that version of Hyrule in 16 bit graphics. I fell in love with both games. I think you are right with Ocarina of Time having a time and place to play it. I had the hardest time getting into it for many years. Then one day I popped it into my 3DS and I couldn't put it down. It's very strange how things like that happen. The greens really pop in the 3D version. I completely agree with that. The 3D is also really immersive. Some of the best on any game made for the 3DS. Again, thank you so much for coming back and commenting. I love seeing what people think about my videos. Especially if they've see a good amount of them.
I usually watch your vids day of, it just takes a bit to find time/mood to write long comments like I normally do. Especially the TMNT one since don't have much experience with that console (loved the vid though). I always harp on how you're underrated. Though on a more selfish note I do appreciate that you can find time to give thoughtful replies to a lot of the comments that we post. I'm often waiting eagerly for your replies, like a package that won't come soon enough. At the same time I'd love to see you get some adsense compensation for your effort. I'll be happy with either as seasons change Lastly I've been meaning to ask since I haven't heard you say it. Is your name pronounced: A: Knee-an-der Mee-an-der B: Neen-der Meen-der C: A mix of both lol
@@CreamyCaesar491 I really appreciate you always coming back to watch my videos. It makes the effort worth it. Thank you so much for the kind words. I’m glad they are people who like what I make. I love my DSi and I'll always keep it, but I had a 3ds and I got rid of it and have regretted it ever since. It's one of the few consoles I have ever sold. I think it's time to start looking for one. great video.
I bought my first 3DS in 2017 the New Nintendo 2DS XL. Love it. Now 5 years later and still buying 3ds games and recently bought a used New Nintendo 3DS XL in blue and it has a IPS Top screen and all the accessories + charger for €119. I saw it in a big game shop and immediately bought it. Rlly love the 3ds effect!
That's a really nice find! I'm glad you bought it. The closure is sad, but it had to come at some point. The 3DS won't ever stop being relevant. Modders have really opened up the possibilities for the 3DS to live on for as long as people are interested in it.
Story time: So I got my first 3ds shortly after it came out and I remember absolutely loving mario 3d land. I was obsessed with it and was playing it so much that my eyesight got so bad because I was constantly using the 3d effect. I think I had it for around 2-3 weeks before my parents took it away from me permanently because of my eyes. I never got to finish 3d land... Fast forward to around last week, me being in college now and having my own money, I started thinking about the 3ds and how many great games I missed out on playing and wanted to buy one (not just for me but also for my future kids to give to them). Funny how this video came up in my recommended as I am currently in a bid for a 3ds of my favorite color (same model as the one I had as a kid) that comes with over 280 games and is in prestige condition, not a single scratch. I really, really hope I can get it and start the magical journey again.
I hope you get it! Which model did you have? It's so great to get in touch with people who appreciate the 3DS system. For a while, it seemed like people were treating it like a joke. Then the pandemic happened and the mindset was completely flipped.
@@NeanderMeander I remember having the aqua blue model since blue is my favorite color. I currently have the highest bid (super cheap considering all the games I would be getting) and it ends in 4 days so I'm crossing my fingers!!!
I’m so glad to know you like the games I picked. Some people have been saying my game choices are basic and boring. I think they’re amazing! I think we would be good friends too
@@NeanderMeander Nonsense! There's so many good ones to pick, and you basically picked out what you would want on a deserted island. Plus, you backed up all your choices with your own special personal memories. And isn't that what gaming is all about? I started collecting more 3DS physical games when all the eShop stuff was announced and can proudly say I have all these games in my library! Your video wants to make me get around to finally playing DK and Metroid, but otherwise I've played the rest on your list.
@@JOMvasion Yeah, you're right. I haven't taken what those people say to heart. There are some that think a game is only good if it's an obscure title that nobody has really heard about or an RPG that takes over 30 hours to beat. Not that those games are bad, I like those types of games too. There's just something about the 5 games I listed that make me want to go back and play them over and over again. That's awesome you've started getting physical games. What are you favorite games so far? I think game prices will start to increase in price after the eshop closure next month. It still blows my mind that the 3DS has gotten so popular the last couple of years. For a while, nobody cared about it. It's great to see it having this rise in popularity. I hope it keeps going.
@@NeanderMeander I absolutely loved A Link Between Worlds and now I really want to revisit 3D Land since I traded that in before I upgraded from the 3DS XL to the new 3DS XL. Animal Crossing was a staple for me on my childhood og DS and enjoyed all the major upgrades in New Leaf. I played OOT for the first time on my 3DS like you since I never had a N64 and greatly enjoyed that. My friend gifted me a copy of that to get me to play his favorite childhood game. I also enjoyed lots of questing in MH3 and MH4 with my college friends. I'm currently loving the Luigi's Mansion rerelease (which I also never got the chance to play when I was younger). Just so many good games that you'll never be able to replicate the experience with an emulator if you enjoy playing with the 3D effect (plus touch screen). That's why I felt it was important to scoop up games since it feels like such a unique handheld, and Nintendo will probably never make a true dedicated handheld again. I still have my GBA SP and DS and love to revisit them from time to time and remember simpler times.
I recently got a New 3DS after my original 3DS was destroyed a few years ago, and it has been my favorite gaming system... period. This was a really well done video, and though there are other games I would have included, all of these are amazing games.
I love it too. It's a toss up for me between the New 3DS XL and the New 3DS. They both look and feel great. What games would have added to the list? Thanks for watching
@@NeanderMeander I would have included Super Smash Bros, Fire Emblem Awakening, Mario Kart 7, and Star Fox 64 3DS on the list as well as what you mentioned. However, that could have easily nearly doubled the length of the video.
I have. It's a great game! I first played it on the Xbox 360. When it was released for the 3DS, it was one of the first digital games I ever bought because I didn't want to wait to buy the physical at a store. Awesome visuals and fun gameplay
I love a link between worlds so much, I grew up in the 90s and I used to play a link to the past a lot so a link between worlds quickly became my favorite 3ds game! ❤️ I want Zelda games like that instead of 3D open worlds like breath of the wild
How awesome was it to get a sequel to A Link to the Past so many years after the original game!? Amazing if you ask me! Although I had the opposite experience. I played A Link Between Worlds first, then went back and played A Link to the Past. I thought it was awesome!
@@NeanderMeander it's great! Idk about the quality control issues that people with the RP3 had, but this RP3+ works great and hasn't skipped a beat yet. Runs everything 64 and under perfect with good battery life. Some 3ds and GameCube but does require some tinkering. Samus returns plays about 90%. But that's not acceptable to some. But windwaker on dolphin mmjr runs .9 resolution pretty well. I've only gotten to the forsaken fortress so I haven't tested with tons of enemies on screen as of yet. But yes, so far so good! Highly recommend - especially if you want to play all N64 at 4x resolution.
My top 3DS games are all tied to memories. Kid Icarus Uprising: I remember buying this game at Gamestop and playing it nonstop. Similar to your experience with Ocarina of Time, I thought the game was about to end when I reached a "fake out" final chapter about 1/4 of the way into the game. The game then kept going, and it blew me away every step of the way. Between the excellent online multiplayer (RIP) I sunk hours into with my best friend and the sliding difficulty scale that makes replayability exciting, it's a game I'll likely keep coming back to and getting something new from. Fire Emblem Awakening: This was my first Fire Emblem, and it's still my favorite. I remember how exciting the idea of permadeath was to me as somebody who was just beginning to push myself into playing "hard" games for the first time. Between the sweeping narrative and customizable relationship factor, the music and the creative levels, I fell in love with the series. A Link Between Worlds: I played it through once and had a good time with it. Then I did a minimalist 3-heart challenge while attending San Diego comic con and waiting in lines all day, and I fell in love with the game. Some weird factors contributed to this minimalist joy (You can do odd stuff like restrict yourself to a single item slot in that game by never choosing to get a second. You can rent one item at a time so you are constantly under-resourced, and you can refuse to upgrade any of your weaponry). I just had a ton of fun with this challenge and will always associate it with that comic con. Metroid Samus Returns: Man, this was a weird period of time. The Switch was out, but the only game I played on it was Breath of the Wild. Meanwhile, I was in the Metroid fanbase of people who jumped on the bandwagon in the awkward years shortly after Other M. My introduction to the series was Metroid Prime, but I played it super late, and I didn't realize until a few years later that the series I had grown to love was essentially dead in the water. All that changed with one weird 3DS remake that totally reinvigorated the franchise and brought it back to life. Playing it today, it feels like a bit of a test-run for Dread, my all-time favorite Metroid, but it still holds its own as an excellent remake of a game I never expected to see remade. And all that after the Switch had already hit shelves. Mario 3D Land. This is the Mario game I replay the most to this day. It's a fast-paced, clever, breezy platformer that's a joy to 100% and I love it. What's even more exciting to me is all the games I have yet to play on my favorite console of all time. As the eshop is about to close, I went back and bought the games I was always interested in trying, and especially the digital-only ones. So now I get to play Fire Emblem Fates for the first time in 2023. I'm also on a huge Kirby kick right now, and I'm about to play Robobot for the first time. Weirdly, 2023 feels like a great time to play the 3DS, even if Nintendo wouldn't agree with me.
Thanks for sharing this! Great list! I've been meaning to play Kid Icarus Uprising for a long time. I might have to spend the big bucks to get one with the stand. I've also wanted to jump into Fire Emblem Awakening. I have it, I just need to start playing it. I've been on a Kirby game buying spree. Again though, I have yet to start them. I'm planning on making a follow-up video to this later this year. Maybe some of these games will make the cut.
@@NeanderMeander That is so hard to answer. I love Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, TLOZ: A Link Between Worlds, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology, Kirby: Planet Robobot, and Pokemon Sun/Moon SO MUCH.
Just a little nitpick here... motion controls did not make Re4 better. It made the game easier. In my opinion, too easy. I think original controls are much better, because its how the developers designed that masterpiece of a game. Its supposed to be tense. Its supposed to be difficult aiming multiple shots at multiple enemies running towards you. Its not supposed to be an easy arcade light gun game.
Samus returns has a special place for me. I've never liked metroidvania games. I've tried so many, but always just found them frustrating, I didn't get the appeal. But for whatever reason when I tried samus returns something just clicked and I finally understood the appeal. Now I love metroid and have a new appreciation for this whole genre.
Wow the quality of your video, and your voiceover! Love it, wouldn't have realized this was a small channel and totally forgot I was already subscribed haha keep up the good work
i tried playing samus returns but i just kept getting stuck and i just hated the controls. ive tried a handful of times, since everyone says its amazing, but i just dont get it.
I was in the same boat. I didn’t understand why people liked it so much. It finally clicked with me after giving it another solid try. I also rarely got stock, even though I had in the past. I don’t know why, but it just happened
As someone who bought a New 2ds XL in April, the first game I got was Fire Emblem Fates. Also you can’t go wrong with any of the mainline Pokémon games.
3DS was great, and you didn't even need to mention it's fun built in experiences like streetpass (huge in college and at conventions for me) and the (albeit low-res) 3D photos! A shame to see the eShop go, but the little 12 year old handheld still feels decidedly modern in 2023, and that's really comforting to me, haha
@@NeanderMeander I have a good variety. I SNES, Galaxy, standard black with an IPS. 2 of them are actually the door wedge 2DS Pokémon center Japan exclusives. I swapped an American 2DS motherboard in one of them. The last 3DS I have is the 20th anniversary Pokémon edition that’s CIB. I also have the diamond & pearl DS. Do you have a video up of what you have?
@@NeanderMeander Wild collection! Very impressive! I’ve owned quite a bit of special editions and regretted getting rid of most of them. Super jealous of the Hylian shield 2ds. I saw it multiple times for sale when it released and passed it up every time.
@@JMedly I was working quite a bit during the 3DS era with little debt. I was able to pick them up brand new. I have a few that are second hand that work perfectly fine too. I have a few regrets though. Like you, I passed up a few special editions I wish I could go back and grab, like the Samus Edition. That still haunts me to this day.
OoT 3D was great. I feel like Ship of Harkinian is the definitive way to play OoT though, as it's a full PC port with tons of extra features. 144FPS. Lots of graphical enhancements and HD texture support. Modding support. Gyroscope support. An entire built in randomizer. Enemizer. The cosmetics editor, sfx editor, save editor. Built in cheats & all the debug tools from the debug rom. General enhancements like statistics, timeless equipment, bindable items on D-Pad. Bindable equipment like Iron Boots. The ability to turn certain fixes on/off or restore things from 1.0. Most enhancements made to OoT 3D are in SoH. I don't have to keep separate roms anymore for when I want to fuck around with debug tools or play through another randomizer, it's great. It's actively being worked on as well, so imo it's no contest really. Now if SoH somehow made its way onto the 3DS? That's a different story. Unfortunately I don't ever see this happening due to limitations. SoH is definitely worth checking out if you love OoT.
As someone new to the 3DS system my game experience is somewhat limited but my favourites would be Bravely Default, Mario Kart 7, and Shantae and the Pirate's Curse. In regard to the Wii it was a system that was sold by motion controls but so many games were made worse by them. I will never understand why the Wii version of Spider-Man Web of Shadows was motion controls only when the Classic Controller was a thing, would it really have hurt to have both control methods in the game?
I really wish Nintendo hadn't added motion controls to every game just for the sake of having motion controls in them. I'm not huge into emulation on my computer, but I have really started to delve into emulating Wii games. Being able to map the motion controls onto buttons has made those games really shine.
Happy Holidays 🎄 the 3DS will always have a special place in my heart. It's such a system and it will be missed and remembered fondly. Here's to a bright 🔆 2023 for you and your amazing content.
I have a real soft spot for the 3DS and the Wii U. To me, they represent a time when Nintendo was struggling and they were purring their heart out in everything they did.
This is so true! They had to figure things out. The games made during this time are so good!
This. I will always consider that era my favorite in gaming
@@NeanderMeander u missed out on kid icarus uprising and the world ends with you and so much more
my cat purrs his heart out too.
That’s awesome! It’s a gray probably console. I still take mine everywhere I go
so happy people are still making 3ds videos
It’s amazing how many people still adore the 3DS!
don't see enough people mentioning the nice clean edits and high production value of this video, well done. love the camera shots especially.
Much appreciated! Thank you for watching

@@charleskuhn382 That's a really good deal! I would have bought it if I had come across it.
Love it.
I'm glad I grew up with the 3DS, it really was a time to feel nostalgic about.
Thanks for the quality video and may Mr. Iwata rest in peace.
It had a long lifespan. I think that helped it gain a ton of fans. Thanks for watching and commenting

The opening theme to Ocarina will always be perfect to me!
It's so good!
Thank you so much for watching! That’s awesome that you want to play your 3DS after watching this video

Thank you so much! These take a while to make. I appreciate the kind words.
They are legendary 🙌🏾 👏🏾
The 3ds is very special to me as well, the 999 series and the phoenix wright series especially are gems I always replay, but theres just so many good ones to name as honorable mentions, devil survivor, smt iv, bowsers inside story, fire emblem echoes, etc. It just keeps on giving!
There are so many! I’ll have to revisit this subject again in the future.
Loved every single one of these games. Recently got into New Leaf for the first time. If only I played it back when it was active
Thanks! New Leaf is really fun. I have family that really got into it.
One that I can not live without is fantasy life. Such a underrated gem.
A few people have said that game is really good. Maybe it's time for me to find a copy
Jeez I've just recently discovered and started playing fantasy life. I am hooked! Totally agree
My backlog is huge too! After making this video, it's even bigger. So many great games are being suggested everyday

As someone who grew up with DKC Returns on the Wii (first game i've ever played) I gotta say. Controls ain't that bad once you start playing lol
I love coming back to this video for motivation to finish some 3ds games, plus the quality is a 10/10

I sold this game pretty quickly after playing it. Your comment has made me want to get it again. I'm afraid to look at the current prices for it.

Man what a console!
You got a new subscriber :)
Thanks for watching the video! All those games you listed are fantastic! The 3DS has an almost never ending amount of quality games to play.
Don’t forget Kid Icarus Uprising! I feel like it’s not talked about enough.
It’s a great game!
I play on my 3DS almost everyday! Had it since release and loved the fact you could download older Pokemon games on it!
Yes! Being able to download those game officially has been amazing!
What i love most is modding it for DS games. Every Nintendo handheld in one device is incredible. 3DS prices are starting to skyrocket, and im not surprised. Ill be hanging onto mine no matter what.
My too!
That’s awesome! We all don’t have to all like the same things. That’s what makes things interesting.
I was so anxious to see a new video from you, Ive played Super Mario 3d land, I loved it so much! Metroid Samus returns was amazing, that game and dread made me fell even more in love with the franchise, all the games that you mentioned are fantastic. Love your videos.
Thank you so much for watching my videos. It really means so much to me to know people like what I make.
Your videos and your love for the 3DS always bring a smile to my face. You're the reason that I decided to chase variants for the 3DS. A decision I definitely don't regret. Your passion is infectious.
My list is very similar to yours. In no particular order
1. Super mario 3D Land
2. The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time
3. Kirby Planet Robobot
4. Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology
5. Pokemon Ultra Sun
Thanks for another banger of a video. Happy holidays and I hope your 2023 is full of awesome 3DS experiences. ^^
Great list! I still need to play Planet Robobot. I just got it and I can't wait to give it a playthrough
@@NeanderMeander Oh man you will definitely love it. I also put it off for a long time and was kind of going into it not believing the hype. But its definitely worthy of all the praise. Enjoy it my dude!
@@Transientimage That's good to hear! Now i just need to make some time to play it.
Awesome job man, you got a new sub. My favorite 3ds games are Pokémon Sun, Metroid Samus Returns and Fire Emblem Echoes!!
Awesome! Thank you! I need to jump into Fire Emblem Echoes. I've heard it's really good
What I like the most about NEW 3DS XL, and what makes it my favourite handheld ever, is that games are designed for handheld gameplay, something Switch lacks.
For example try playing the castle level of Luigi Mansion 3 on handheld on the switch, and you will realize the difference between a game designed for TV gameplay with handheld option, and playing Luigi Mansion 2 on New 3DS XL
Very well put. 3DS games were designed to be played on a handheld. Maybe that's why I like them so much
I'm really curious what you mean and what makes luigi's mansion 3 or other games better suited for tv console play, could you elaborate please? I've never played luigi's mansion, neither 2 nor 3, and I've never owned a (3)ds - I'm inspired to buy one from watching these videos tho. But all the games I play on switch I play on handheld mode and they're fine that way. It only feels weird to me when I'm playing some retro games, e. g from the NES/SNES collection, not just the aspect ratio that doesn't fill the screen but also the feeling that they are meant for a very different controller form factor and size and it just feels like I'd enjoy them more on their original console with the original controllers
i Absolutely love this video and i couldn't believe that you do not have at least 1 mil subs judging by your outstanding production value and the quality of your vids keep up the awesome work
Wow, thank you so much!
Very dramatic editing and narration, feels nice xD
I'm glad you liked it.
Great video as always. There's a 60FPS Mario64 hacked 3DS version out there I can recommend if you wanna give the whole game a shot. Plays really well and even the 3D effect is super immersive.
Whoa that really cool! I'll look into it
My new nintendo 3ds falled and didn’t work anymore. Yesterday I ordered a brandnew new nintendo 3ds for 150 euro! Thanks for another great upload. Have a great holiday!
That's too bad. I'm glad you got a new one! That's a great price too!
I respect you my brother....I've had my NEW 3DS XL for almost 7yrs and still play it to this day....the only game I never played is Mario 3d World
Thanks for watching! 3D world is a great game
@@NeanderMeander Respect My Guy....I respect your top 5 as well....I own them all except 3D World...Now what I'm in search for is the double pack amiibos of Samus and The Metroid...I beat the game on both difficulties but the Metroid amiibo unlocks 🔑 the final difficulty.
broo the time stamps got me like good mood very good mood crazy good mood
I thought more people would have said something about them. Thanks for noticing
This is really helpful. I just got a 2ds and don't know what games to play. This gave me answers. Thanks really good background music too
Awesome! I'm glad this video helped you out
I got a question for you, do you mod your console if you do or not why?
Thank you so much! Let me know if you like my other videos too
3ds is incredible i absolutely love mine. there are so many awesome games and you can play the entire DS library on it too.
Couldn't agree more!
Donkey Kong Country Returns on 3DS is my favourite game on the system, and my favourite DK game of all time
It's such a great game! Have you played Tropical Freeze?
Of Course, and I think Country Returns 3D is better, my favourite level in the game is (Switcheroo 7-6)
@@mezomoza7 The music in the factory levels is so good! I loved getting to that one. Knocking the robot chickens down when you press the switches was amazing.
I liked this video very much. Personal stories with the games and actual gameplay. It was pleasant to watch
I'm so glad you liked it.
I just got my first 3DS after missing the boat on all of this. I’m loving it
Awesome! What made you get one?
Always love seeing a new upload from you!
Thank you! It's always good to get something new out there
3DS is the one thing I don't think I could live without.
You've picked up some good ones! I need to get a few more as well.
Sounds like it was perfect timing! I’m glad I could help
@@cqllel5186 Amazing! I love hearing things like this!
I spent so many hours playing monster Hunter 4 ultimate, fire emblem, super smash bros, and Zelda. It’s a beast of a console with some of the greatest games on there that could last you a lifetime
Great game choices! Well said!
Dang your b-roll shots are so good! Especially that reflection shot of the galaxy 3DS 10:30
I believe I own all of these games but have only played half of them.
The green just feels so vibrant in kokiri forest (especially with IPS) and the 3D really jumps out at you
I also completed Samus Returns. I try to complete games but usually get burned out in the process and put them down. This game however made it so intuitive to explore with it's wonderful map system that I had no issue getting all the collectables
3D Land is just down right well executed, especially the boss fights. the lava and 3d graphics make the whole scene super epic and cinematic.
I'll be happy with either as seasons change
Lastly I've been meaning to ask since I haven't heard you say it. Is your name pronounced:
A: Knee-an-der Mee-an-der
B: Neen-der Meen-der
C: A mix of both lol
@@CreamyCaesar491 I really appreciate you always coming back to watch my videos. It makes the effort worth it. Thank you so much for the kind words. I’m glad they are people who like what I make. There’s the occasional hater, but that’s to be expected.

really like your cinematography and editing
Thank you so much! I really appreciate reading comments like this
i came across this youtube channel by coincidence, and i love the content, i love how the videos are made and specially the honest feedback, in fact i just bought a new Metroid Samus returns right after i heard you talking about it :D, looking forward to seeing more videos from you :) cheers
I'm so glad you like my videos! They are quite a bit of work, so it's always good to read thing like your comment. have you been playing Samus Returns?

I love my DSi and I'll always keep it, but I had a 3ds and I got rid of it and have regretted it ever since. It's one of the few consoles I have ever sold. I think it's time to start looking for one. great video.
I've sold two of my 3DS consoles and have regretted it ever since. If only I could get them back somehow
wish i wouldve got one while they were still available
Nobody could have predicted how expensive they would become. I'm amazed at how much people are spending on used consoles.
your video is just amazing ! I got my first nintendo 3ds this year so I hope that you wil keep making videos about it
Thank you so much! There's no doubt I'll be making more videos about the 3DS.
Now buying some Virtual Console games and themes on my 3ds. Cuz the Eshop is closing very soon😣
That's a really nice find! I'm glad you bought it. The closure is sad, but it had to come at some point. The 3DS won't ever stop being relevant. Modders have really opened up the possibilities for the 3DS to live on for as long as people are interested in it.
Story time:
So I got my first 3ds shortly after it came out and I remember absolutely loving mario 3d land.
I feel like we could be really good friends based on video game taste alone. Awesome video!
This video was a great help. I’m looking to get a new 3ds xl soon and wanted to get Mario 3d land as well. Now I have a few more titles to try out
Awesome! I'm glad you watch it. Let me know which ones you end up playing
have you ever tried Rayman Origins? If not you should, its definitely one of my favourites
Yess, Merry Christmas! I needed a video to set up the cita emulator on my retroid pocket 3+
Awesome! Do you like the Retroid 3+?
I absolutely LOVE the 3DS, and tomorrow, Christmas day, will be the 7th anniversary of me getting mine for the first time.
That’s awesome! What’s your favorite game?
Thank you for sharing this. I'm not a huge Resident Evil fan, so I'm not an expert on any of it. I'll take your word for it.
This review convinced me to buy some LoZ games for my 3DS before the eShop closes, just in case there are updates I need to download.
I'm glad I was able to inspire you to play more Zelda games. You'll have to let me know what you think of them.
I had the exact same experience! Samus Returns just clicked with me. That's so cool you went through the same thing.
Fantastic and very clear explanation. This console will forever be definite on the original system.
Wow the quality of your video, and your voiceover! Love it, wouldn't have realized this was a small channel and totally forgot I was already subscribed haha keep up the good work
Thank you so much! I do what I can to make it look good
i tried playing samus returns but i just kept getting stuck and i just hated the controls. ive tried a handful of times, since everyone says its amazing, but i just dont get it.
I really need to play the Fire Emblem games. There have been several comments about them. The Pokémon games are great too!
You’re right, it does feel very modern for how old it is.
Glad to see others giving the 3ds the respect it deserves. I have 5 of them and multiple other Nintendo handhelds.
Which ones do you have?
@@NeanderMeander I have a good variety. I SNES, Galaxy, standard black with an IPS. 2 of them are actually the door wedge 2DS Pokémon center Japan exclusives. I swapped an American 2DS motherboard in one of them. The last 3DS I have is the 20th anniversary Pokémon edition that’s CIB. I also have the diamond & pearl DS. Do you have a video up of what you have?
@@JMedly That's awesome! Those are all great! I do have a video of the ones I've picked up. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/4jnu413tvWo/v-deo.html
Many people have told me to play Ship of Harkinian. After ready your comment, maybe it's time a do. Thanks for writing such a detailed comment.
he's right. All you need is a 3DS. Gameboy, GBC, NES, SNES, and so SO much more. Truly a beautifully crafted piece of hardware.
I hope Nintendo finds a way to make a console that is made as well as the 3DS.
@@NeanderMeander right? I agree
It will definitely be remembered fondly. It seems to be getting more and more popular as the years go by.
@@NeanderMeander I agree! So glad I built my 3DS library before everything went up in price.
@@fredrick8691 Yes! Who works have thought it would be so crazy? Do you remember when 3DS stuff was dirt cheap?
Such a well made video
Thank you so much!
