The discourse around the Clark Big 3 situation is so weird to me because the WNBA players should take it as a good thing. Was the deal done solely for business purposes? Yeah, duh. But that means that there is a business man out there wanting to put $5M behind a single individual woman player. That means you have legit interest in women's basketball in some form. Use that info to realize what the market likes about her game, bring it into your league more, and make the WNBA what y'all want it to be: profitable

The problems with the offer is:
-Pushing it to one player is actually pretty insulting to other college and pro players that are jist as if not more deserving. Considering the talent coming out of college this year and stars in the wnba who are deserving as well is bad. You can her and maybe 4 other players to have at least 1 female player per team makes more sense. Overlooking ionescu, Wilson, reese, etc doesn't make sense
-it also makes a bad argument that they can play in a men's league. Big3 is more physical than the nba. She will not be able to deal.

Lol, they need to rebrand to the "LNBA", because apparently they just want to complain and keep taking L's in every conversation instead of any W that people are trying to hand them smh. WNBA players and their extremely small fanbase should all be supporting a player like Caitlin who everybody men & women seems to want to watch. But instead these people involved with the WNBA throw shade Caitlin's way, don't support her offers and/or success. Tbh, it probably just makes the millions of people who enjoy watching Caitlin play, outright not want to support anybody involved with the WNBA altogther. It's truly a failed league entirely, and it starts with the whiny players, their negative attitude and the fact that most can't actually hoop in a way that's entertaining to people that really enjoy and have respect for the game of basketball. No disrespect, but watching a WNBA game is similar to watching basketball in the special olympics. Yes, there may be a level of satisfaction watching disabled people play and have a passion for basketball, but at the same time it's not likely going to be intense, the players are going to be less skilled, and less athletic. Basically it's not going to be entertaining you, you'd basically be just cheering to cheer, because you're being nice and NOT because their play is moving you in any way. Everything they can do, you and/or 20-30 dudes down at your local gym that hoop can do the same or better with more intensity, more skill, and more athleticism and you and/or those 20-30 dudes at your local that hoop are extremely far from being NBA level. People watch the NBA because the players are impressive and what they do cannot be easily replicated against that level of competition. People watch Caitlin Clark because she is also impressive. People don't watch the WNBA because they are fully grown professional basketball players that are not even as impressive as the real hoopers at your local gym smh. It's really as simple as that. What makes things worse for WNBA players is they have the audacity to talk about how good they are and what they are worth. But we all know there's several non-NBA and non-professional players at any given local gym across the would be more entertaining to watch.

@@CahlilWesson Yep. As the NBA stars have been getting more and more talkative and whiny, the viewership has gone down. Their money is now being made on brand deals and advertising at better rates than ever, but the viewership is going down. If they stopped talking about anything other than the sport and played a slightly more physical game with defense, I'd bet their viewership goes back up. I know I'd start watching again if there was more defense. Better defense also means more explosive and awe inspiring offense.

I didn't know that about the WNBA requiring women to play for 4 years in college before they can be drafted... that is one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard of in my life. If any sport/team/organization values someone's talent in a given sport and is willing to pay them to play on their team or whatever, ones education level, etc, should have absolutely nothing to do with anything. I just looked it up and there is one exception, a player must be 4 years removed from high school before they could play in the WNBA, which is ridonculous as well.
Just in general, i absolutely detest the fact that the educational system has a monopolyesk control over certain sports, but that's a long argument in which I think has a sinister basis, but the principle is the same regardless, someone talented and showing promise to becoming pro in a given sport, that's cool if they want to hedge their bet and get an education as well in case it doesn't work out, but it shouldn't be mandatory. Some people aren't going to have the skills aptitude for the class room, yet if they have the talent to make it as a pro in a given sport the class room should have no baring on it whatsoever. Most of society has been programmed with this (football/basketball/baseball highschool sports/education being one in the same) because that's all we've ever known, but it's really goofy if you stand back and analyze it.

    • @dinglbarry1275
      @dinglbarry1275 Місяць тому

And to anyone who disagrees with my second argument. Imagine if someone who excelled in academics looking to get an engineering degree or whatever was required to to excel at a passing rate in competitive sports before they could get into that profession or get their degree? It's redic. Not everyone is going to have academic skills or even academic opportunities at a young age and the notion that an athlete talented enough to play pro or even continue there athletic journey as a pro hopeful without getting passing grades is obscene.

Here’s the thing bro. It’s documented, players in the NBA that were vets in 1979 didn’t like the hoopla and so forth bird and magic got when they were rookies. People definitely didn’t like that $25 million contract magic got in the 80s
The execs just didn’t care and still marketed them. And it worked out because they both won multiple titles and multiple MVPs.
This right here is a moment where the wnba execs gotta do the same thing. Do what’s best for their league regardless of what existing players feel about it. And market Clark and Reese like it’s nobody’s business!
That article talked about juju but juju won’t be out of school for like 3 more years. By that time, if things are done right with Reese and Clark, more eyes will be on the league for an exciting highlight reel player to take over…
If that sounds familiar, it was 5 years after bird and magic came into the league that a 6’6 guard from NC electrified the league and basically became the most famous figure the following decade.
Not saying that will happen in the WNBA, but I feel this is their moment.

That said, if you haven’t been watching, TONIGHT is the night to take a peak at women’s NCAA basketball scene. You’re about to see one of the most exciting double headers in quite some time.
This year’s WNBA draft is like the ‘03 draft of Bron, Melo, Bosh, Wade, etc. there’s so many great characters and story lines that it’s just incredible to watch. - and 2 years ago, I would have told you this shit was like watching paint dry, so I get it.
In regard to your NBA take, I don’t think it even needs to be “post-lebron” I genuinely think, if he wanted to, he could play a more “supportive” pg role for the next 5-10 years and have a Legendary “2nd career” in that role and I KNOW that sounds asinine, but if 1 person could do it, it’s that creature. - and I’d kind of love to see him out there making these great players even better in that role. - but I think his interests will eventually transition to ownership/management, but who knows
The problem is also that it would very likely destroy his all-time averages and most players wouldn’t do that.

Caitlin Clark, Paige Buechers, JuJu Watkins, Angel Reese and many others are the reason NCAA women's BBballer's are changing viewing habits. WNBA play style is dismal, with an attitude to match. This current generation of women's college basketball is the most entertaining the game has been for long time.

I totally get where she is coming from, with Ice Cube coming up with a false sense of care for helping out players in the WNBA (by recruiting a college bball player) being annoying. But it still tracks with the odd tendency of the WNBA feeling offemded on behalf of *anyone* trying to suggest any changes to the league so that it becomes better!
I feel bad for Caitlin largely because I can totally see the WNBA self-sabotaging her arrival into the association by taking her for granted and failing to they market her right.

If the draft goes the way it is projected, Cardoso will end up on the same team as the player who won the Niasmith Defensive Player of the Year, Cameron Brink.
