Props to a couple of these (McQ, True Lies, The Devil's Own, etc.) for getting it mostly right - other movies always make the sound effect for these buzzguns too slow because "that's how machineguns are supposed to sound" just like how they get they always used to get the sound of silencers/suppressors wrong.
The Heckler & Koch MP5 was originally going to be the base of the M41A Pulse Rifle from Aliens (1986), but it didn't show enough muzzle flash during testing, so they moved onto the Ingram MAC-10 until they finally settled on the Thompson M1A1 submachine gun.

McQ was the very first time it was on screen. To be the Duke to fire it for the first time on screen made the gun a legend.
