“Everything else about him was so wonderful so I let his evasiveness about his work go” Girl, how a man earns his money and does for a living is a big deal! Let’s not make these mistakes again. Especially just for some fancy dinners and gifts we can also buy ourselves.
Sad she married him for the wrong reasons, seems like thats why she didn’t take the res flags seriously. She is really blessed to be alive, hope she has developed a better judgment to keep her and her family safe . giving up dating wont solve anything unless she understands that.
What are the right reasons? She is right to stop dating. She has 3 kids to raise abd no time to date. It is hard to find a decent man to pick up a woman with 3 kids, no assets and living with her parents. Everlasting love from first sight only happens in the teen movies.
You don't know how crazy women get over their wedding. My wife's family paid $4000 for her wedding and reception dresses. I repeat: 4K for two dresses she wore for a day
a wedding dress can typically take anything from 6-12 months to be made actually! So it wouldn't have been enough time to get a new dress that would fit, and maybe it was important to her to have an actual wedding dress and not just a maternity dress. Who knows?
If there’s uncertainty about the basics like “what they do for a living” and no sign of any family or friends don’t be so quick to overlook that and jump into marriage. (I can’t believe people need to be told that, but it ought to be seemingly) Marriage is taken so lightly, it’s scary 😑
Apps_ Gumm - It’s a 30 minute show. They can’t go into great detail about everything. He went to elaborate lengths to con her. Plus this was 2002. It’s a lot easier to verify things today then it was back then. Especially if your partner works 600 miles away
Honestly, something seemed off about her personality. The way she spoke about things and her previous life gave me bad vibes. She is the type of person that I would meet once and wouldn’t want to be friends with.
I think people let emotions be a big part of who they date rather than having a thorough understanding of the background of the person who they want to date. Adults now a days are no better than children.
Jarrod The little speech she gives at the end where she says that “she’s not interested in dating anyone and that her children are significant enough” is the way that she should’ve felt before she got involved with that guy. She’s very lucky that her children weren’t abused by him. It’s amazing to me what women (and men) expose their vulnerable, innocent children to all because of their selfishness. I can speak from the perspective of these children.
This woman has 3 kids and 2 parents. Why didn't she say kids got hurt, need a hospital visit to cancel boat trip or parents had an emergency she had to attend to ASAP?
I think she did the right thing. If she called and cancelled on him, he would of known what was up and killed them. If she rang the police... like her mum said, it was out of her states jurisdiction which would send her into a panic, maybe they’d take her in for questioning which again... he would know something was up and would hide evidence. Many arrests are thwarted because people jump the gun and have no evidence for their claims but are so close to the assailant that they notice something’s up.
"we had a couple of boats". really, why do you need more than one? also, i find it hard to believe that there was nothing else going on at the time, 200k doesn't seem enough to maintain that lifestyle.

I feel sorry for joy. I feel her pain. My mind mirror her. She is emotionally scarred for life. She will treat man with avoidance and disdain for the rest of her life. People can carry hurt, grudge and distrust for a lifetime. It is a heavy burden taking its toll on them. People harm themselves tremendously, simply by assuming a feelings mind set. Sometimes ,they are not even aware of it. Its like being crippled emotionally. Joy would never love/trust a man again. How many out there? How many? How many people walk through life, without living, for being emotionally crippled out of abuse and abandonment ? I see them all.

It is weird when women, married or in relationships with their men lavishly spending and inundating them with expensive gifts, yet they don't know the source of this wealth. These women are blinded by materialism. Often the story ends up like this, or worst still, they(the women) end up being murdered with their children. Joy escaped with her children alive because the man was incarcerated.
They are love bombed! It’s harder to end a relationship with a narcissist, than with a normal human being, they are cunningly manipulative! Better off not engaging at the start, once you’re love bombed you’re blind but still have to pay a hefty price, up to even your life! Usually, if a narcissist targets you, they want your life overall!

First question: you think you are being too picky because you wonder what your husband does for a living? And who goes on a boat trip with her kids and a man you know is a murderer??!!!

Grammar. Embrace it and the appearance of your intelligence level will skyrocket!
Angeline D 🙄 do you feel better now?
Angeline D the grammer police boo boo boo you can’t read without the period mark 😂😂😂
Angeline D I think this quarantine is making you a tad crazy.
Rebecca Farley I so agree! They have nothing better to do than correct peoples grammar. Not an English class, just comments
Anytime you "put your concerns aside" in other words...(he is taking care of me/us so) then you are in for a world of trouble
They glossed over a major red flag. When they were planning their wedding Joseph only invited one friend and wife. Where is his family??
He bludgeoned his family.
Such crass and cheap presentation. There's an awful trend towards trivializing events such as this with dramatic corny music, bad puns and an atrocious script. Producers and writers are so blinded by ratings (clicks) that they forget, A: The events are dark and tragic and that the victims deserve respect. B: The content is already engaging (present it better).
roblongstaffmusic I couldn't have said it better myself
+1
roblongstaffmusic that intro is absolute hideous
This woman had gone thru this type of terror and url worried about the script?! Wow🙄🙄 some humans never cease to amaze
lesego mahapa My disgust at this “Disney documentary” is based purely on respect for the victims. Glad I amaze..
Dear Joy
You are fortunate to have your loving understanding parents to support you through this time of emotional distress and suffering.
He is pure evil and I was fooled by a man in a similar way. I know I am lucky to be alive today.
You are extremely brave. I wish you Joy and Peace.

With each dissolved relationship she said, "I was so relieved when it was over" dang girl, just stay single!
“Everything else about him was so wonderful so I let his evasiveness about his work go”
Girl, how a man earns his money and does for a living is a big deal!

I know this is a silly question. But why cancel a wedding over a dress that doesn't fit?
Because they'd have to have the gown retailored which I guess would be pretty pricey since wedding gowns are usually rip-offs
You don't know how crazy women get over their wedding. My wife's family paid $4000 for her wedding and reception dresses. I repeat: 4K for two dresses she wore for a day
@@daniellee1722 Americans can be truly unreasonable.
@@happinin07 Indians are much more extravagant than Americans when it comes to weddings. I heard weddings in India last 3 to 7 days!
a wedding dress can typically take anything from 6-12 months to be made actually!
(I can’t believe people need to be told that, but it ought to be seemingly)
Marriage is taken so lightly, it’s scary 😑
Apps_ Gumm - It’s a 30 minute show. They can’t go into great detail about everything. He went to elaborate lengths to con her. Plus this was 2002. It’s a lot easier to verify things today then it was back then. Especially if your partner works 600 miles away
She didn’t care what he did for a living so long as the money kept rolling in.
Galaxie1967 Ford ... to be honest that’s how a lot of humans are in the world today. Money runs the world and that’s all ppl care about. 🤷🏻♀️
HUGE red flag!!
V P not everyone . Not something that should be normalized
Galaxie1967 Ford - She was lied to and his story seemed credible. Guess you didn’t watch the story
Honestly, something seemed off about her personality. The way she spoke about things and her previous life gave me bad vibes. She is the type of person that I would meet once and wouldn’t want to be friends with.
Why wouldn't u go to the police instead of spending the night on the boat with him?
with the kids....crazy
I think people let emotions be a big part of who they date rather than having a thorough understanding of the background of the person who they want to date. Adults now a days are no better than children.
Jarrod The little speech she gives at the end where she says that “she’s not interested in dating anyone and that her children are significant enough” is the way that she should’ve felt before she got involved with that guy. She’s very lucky that her children weren’t abused by him. It’s amazing to me what women (and men) expose their vulnerable, innocent children to all because of their selfishness. I can speak from the perspective of these children.
Always have a cop with you when you are going to talk to a person about something so serious..
Is that possible where you live?
Or witnesses and a voice recorder
How? Offer some random cop a tip to sit in on it? Genius.
where do you live? cops here wouldn't do that
debra - lol. Some of y’all think cops are your person customer service
This woman has 3 kids and 2 parents. Why didn't she say kids got hurt, need a hospital visit to cancel boat trip or parents had an emergency she had to attend to ASAP?
and why didn't any of them CALL THE COPS?!?!
I mean, so foolish!
I would have forged any emergency not to come to the boat as the police investigated
"we had a couple of boats". really, why do you need more than one? also, i find it hard to believe that there was nothing else going on at the time, 200k doesn't seem enough to maintain that lifestyle.
blueladylikeable I was thinking the same thing. The way they were talking I thought he spent 200,000 in the first 6 months.
Yes, 2 boats and upgraded the house. How much does a maintenance man earn? No wonder he stole some of the money.
@@valerieosborne he should have stole then invest then gain more money and secretly return the investment money he stole lol. If he just build a business he could be jailed but could bail eventually.
I totally agree with everything you said.
Well you can have a fishing trawler, and a pontoon boat, and a speed boat, and a yacht.....
Doesn't know his job, doesn't know his family, her naivety is appalling, he chose you for a reason 🤷♀️
Hmm...idk if i would've risked going on a freakin boat with my kids with someone i thought was a murderer. She had the opportunity right then to go straight to the police 🤦🏽
How they filed taxes?
Well said!
That's not a real love
They are love bombed! It’s harder to end a relationship with a narcissist, than with a normal human being, they are cunningly manipulative! Better off not engaging at the start, once you’re love bombed you’re blind but still have to pay a hefty price, up to even your life! Usually, if a narcissist targets you, they want your life overall!
Exactly it is that simple!
It's a true shame that the Wagner's didn't discover the theft sooner than a loss of $200,000.00 and that they didn't confront him with others present (witnesses).

Tragic, lost money and lives. They are the true victims problem with old people is the talk to the suspect and confront tham to report right away
She said that the fact that other people are always reminding her how perfect her husband was made her doubt her own gut feelings that he's doing something suspicious. But other people know him even less than she does, how dare they tell her that her feelings are wrong?
First question: you think you are being too picky because you wonder what your husband does for a living? And who goes on a boat trip with her kids and a man you know is a murderer??!!!
She just ask for a boat trip to confused his husband that she knew that his husband is the suspect
im been told the same..or if I say there is a weird vibe coming off the guy..im told 'Dont read too much into things' ..once I told a friend that man is not nice..and my friend said he seems nice..I told her..no the comment he made wasnt..long story short me and my friend got on the train..and that man was arrested by the police..when we change trains. I would only trust my own judgement now..
I don't understand how people would look for a date on line, it's really dangerous, if i have a kids specialty a daughter never bring a step father home for them, i rather be safe than sorry 😊
Joy had a loving mother who supported her during her hard times.😇
If I am getting married and my groom has no one there, then I would definitely not be down.

So if someone has no friends then...?
Many people are orphaned and really have nobody.
Huge red flag.
What an ordeal! To play along with that sociopath long enough for the law to catch up to him was extremely brave.

Cannot stand the music in this documentary. Makes it almost unwatchable, too distracting and humorous.
This story inspires people and warn people to be much more wise enough in choosing partners. Well played😊
Why do you need partners? Stay solo, you may live longer.
I'm still trying to get my head around how she married a man who she didn't even know. No one in their right mind would marry someone who doesn't disclose what they do for a living... red flag right there as it screams secretive, dishonest, and untrustworthy.
Gotta watch before it gets removed!
Why would it get removed?
That actor who portrays the husband role is spot on .😳
I used to be against office/workplace romance, now I understand that be with someone u meet and know at school/workplace . U have time to observe the person in everyday and learn about them.

yaxi zhang what does the fact that she was 26 and he was 59 have to do with innocence? it’s actually more sick of him to marry a 26 y/o woman than the other way around. (they’re consenting adults so the age gap isn’t necessarily important but if one thinks it is, it’s more odd for the 49 y/o than the 26 y/o)
You do take a chance, even when you supposedly know someone. Often, after the wedding, the man turns into a different person.

@Brooke L. yeah because other way around doesnt happen
So after a painful divorce she jumped into online dating and married the first "interesting" guy she met who didn't introduce her to his family or wouldn't tell her what he did for a living. What a perfectly sensible thing to do!!

Evey Every investigator says I have never seen anything like this in all of their interviews.

I love these docuseries/dramatizations because it shows that anyone could really be not what they seem. Not saying that everyone or anyone in your life is a psychopath, just saying. I'm happy that she was able to get out of this horrible situation in her life, sadly some don't get to.
It’s amazing to me how she ended up pregnant and married to someone that she barely knew
Exactly. And y not ask the 2 elderly ppl questions about their relationship to her man. She would of known of the top he was only the help. They were considered friends!
It only takes seconds to impregnate someone, so that part isn't really a shock! Marrying someone you barely know is a bit weird, though.
