I'm so glad he responded well to your care. my son recently purchased a Caiman lizard and it is not doing well. I was hoping you would have some advice for my son. He recently purchased a caiman lizard. He did a lot of research to make sure that the tank was a great environment for his new Lizard. And according to the veterinarian we have been taking him to he did a really good job. However when the lizard came it had an abscess where one of its front legs meets its body. When we took it to the vet he ran some tests on the fluid inside the abscess and said it had an infection. He put the lizard on antibiotics that we gave it for think about 7 days and the abscess did go away. Then after it had been off the antibiotics for a couple weeks it stopped eating. We had been giving it canned snails. So I took it back to the vet and the vet said that he thought it had parasites. So the vet gave it medicine to get rid of the parasites and had us give a/d Science Diet through a syringe until he started eating again and then had us go back to the snails. He ate the snails for around 2 weeks and then he stopped eating again. He is now back in the vet's office and we are all very upset because we have grown very attached to him. We are hoping when the vet calls he will still be alive. However, I am concerned about what is causing him to stop eating. And I am worried that are veterinarian does not really know how to care for a caiman lizard. When I took the lizard in to the vet the first time they told me that they had never seen a Caiman Lizard before. when they told me they had never seen a caiman lizard before, I searched for a vet that had experience with Caiman Lizards. However, I have been unable to find one. I found your videos online and it looked like you had so much success with the emaciated Caiman Lizard that was brought into you. Could you provide any advice? I could talk to my son to get the specifics about the tank the lizard is in. I would be incredibly grateful if you could provide us with any advice on how to help us save this beautiful lizard.
Their care is very much like an iguanas (arboreal, humid) + bearded dragon (hot, burrowing) + turtle (very aquatic) + very specific diet (snails, seafood). This is an expert-level lizard as they require basically everything, make sure you do your research and don't buy wild-caught.
