Love Great Mis Tor. Hemery described it as the Dominant Peer of Walkham Country. It's one of my "go to" places for a short stroll. You are in danger of inspiring me to get out in my old tent! Keep up the vlogs, very enjoyable!
Another enjoyable video and great Petra cam footage, I spent Saturday night just below Berry Pound myself in my bivvy bag a tarp setup and was rewarded with a beautiful view of the plough all night. And as you mentioned was quite chilly with the strong nw winds in the night. ATB Jason.
Yes it is the Widecombe side, I started at Bennett’s Cross by the Warren House Inn at sunrise , onto Birch Tor, Hookey Tor then Grimspound and then the two moors way to have a check pub lunch at The Old Inn at Widecombe and then back onto the moors to Berry pound and broke camp at sunrise before driving 240 miles back to North Kent.
I've watched a couple of your videos now and subscribed as they are so well made, informative and entertaining. Great Mis is a lovely Tor to camp on but a bit of an arduous walk from Roos Tor! Not an approach I'll be trying again in a hurry. All the best to you and Petra, John.
Hi John, thank you, that's very much appreciated. The route from Roos to Gt Mis is steep and strew with rock isn't it... I remember being up there with a team when one of them lost her contact lens in the dark amid 'Mis Tor Clitter' - oh, what a hoot that was - and she found it 😂
Fab video Shamus and Petra! You are a great presenter and the Petra shots just add a little bit extra. Great angles from your shots such as when you are first getting your gear into the tent. Its great to see that someone puts a lot of thought into their videos! I am going to highlight a couple of points as I know that you have a sense of humour!! I like the way you almost run when you have set the camera up to do a walk by!! Finally according to Petra (The real one!) you are not supposed to stand on the pegs as you push them into the ground! Keep up the good work and get back out soon. Tom
Haha 😂 That's cool with the peg thing... I've bent a few in my time. I've seen that Petra H video recommending a rock, but you know, somewhere in the back of my mind I also remember a Hilleberg video recommending using the ball of your foot as well 😂 - I may be wrong? Anyway, Tom, you know how it is when you've done something for 40 years you just keep doing it. Thank you for all the positive feedback - top chap 👍
Where have you gone Shamus. .? I hope you are ok,You are a natural at making camping videos and you’re sidekick Petra is too, hope to see new video soon !
That was great. I didn't think you were both going to fit in the tent! The sunset, moon and first-light were stunning. I am glad you were warm, I really thought you would be cold! Loved it, thanks.
Another great video Shamus (and Petra) always a joy to see a new video. The weather has certainly become autumnal, my favourite time of year. Keep up the videos and looking forward to Thursday - fingers crossed for the competition ! Take care Shamus and Petra.
Windy on Saturday evening not far from you as I was down in Walkham valley nr the prison leat. I see you have not lost the dog handler in you. 😀 take care Gavin
Hi Gavin, I was trying to figure your campsite from the photo you posted. I hope you had a good night - that wind was biting - In reality not that cold but flipping' unseasonably cold (if you get my drift) - Yes Petra has a fantastic sequence, once I can get her to stop posing for photographs. I still think back fondly to that day up under Kneeset Foot while we searched away for a casualty who long since vanished - ATB Shamus :)
Another place on Dartmoor I've not been to but have seen so many videos from there. Glad you didn't accidentally let go of the tent when you moved it although that would of been funny watching you chase it😂 I keep forgetting to ask what is that bit of music when you got up in the morning and where did you get it from? Thanks mate and take care😁👍
Cracking video shamus always lots of information on your videos that's what I like about your channel can you do more videos about budget kit as everyone can't afford the hilleberg atvb jimmy 😎😎
Hi Jimmy, thank you 😊 of course budget kit is on the list, it's the most important part of all of this - making wild camping accessible to everybody. I can't believe the price of premium tent these days it's astronomical!
Great night sky, were you there the same night as me? Saturday? Proper bitter wind coming in from Okehampton. We were on Wild Tor, as you know, taking the full force of it I think. Beautiful clear skies though
Another very enjoyable video Shamus. I like the short Petra-cam views. Would you consider an Essentials video on sleeping systems? What sort of temperatures do you get on Dartmoor at night in a tent? I believe the r value of the sleep mat affects the comfort rating of a bag but not fully how that affects what I should choose. I wriggle a lot at night, does that affect what I consider buying? So much to figure out when I don't yet have experience camping 🙄
Hi Caroline - sleep systems are on the cards for a Thursday night. it will be in few weeks - I need to break it down because to do the lot in one chop would be too much - so... It'll start with sleeping pads and mats, I would think. I'll be honest, the most comfortable and warmest mats, for me, always cost an arm and a leg - but you have a good nights sleep. Anyway - yes is the answer :)
Really enjoyed your video. I think im going to do Great Mis tor for my first dartmoor camp. How is the dark sky, any good for milky way spotting, cheers
They do make some really luscious tents. However, there is lots of stuff out there to do the job at a fraction of the price. I guess as long as we enjoy the wild camping experience, that's what really counts :)
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 I found my budget hilleberg, it's a salewa litetrek 2, 3 pole freestanding design with the same sleeve and clip system even has the same heavy duty leathery zip cover like the soulo. Worth a look!
EXCELLENT channel. Thoroughly recommended. Cheers from Newquay.
Rewatching miss your videos. Such a great channel

Thanks again, Robert 😊 It is a magnificent tor. You know that old tent is calling to you for an outing 👍

Great video. Just working my way through your videos. How have I not seen any before!
Take care both.

What a magical landscape - I can see why you love it so much. You‘re privileged to call it your home.

No wonder you had such bad night's sleep :)
Wild Tor is quite exposed isn't it. I love Wild Tor, no idea why but I just like it. :)
Another fab video..can I ask what cameras you are using..maybe a video on those and tripods for vlogging?.cheers 🍻
Hi Ian - I use a GoPro Hero 8 and a GoPro Max for 360 / PetraCam. I think that's a great idea re: video 👍👍😊🐶
Myself and my boy did sat not far from manaton trail east. In bivvy bags. Was very clear super starry night helluva windy tho. V cool
Hi Roy - It was that wind that was so cutting. Sound's like a lovey experience for your son :)
Outdoors Inspiration he loved it. But harder this time. He’s only 11. He suggested it lol. Love the videos

Yes dogs can Curly up nice and tight. Hope that sounds right 🤣
Yes dogs can Curly up nice and tight. Hope that sounds right 🤣
I visited here recently parked and walked up a track seems a good place to camp?
What's series is the montane down jacket?
Well that stumped me, I had to look it up 😂 I think it's a Feathelite. It was a comfy jacket that fits.
Are you sure Petra isn't part mountain goat. She adores climbing stuff it seems. Or does she just want to be queen of the castle !!.
It's true, she does like climbing rocks - she has done it since she was a pup 😊👍🐶
What’s the pole on top by the water hole.
It's a military training area flag pole used to denote when firing is taking place 👍
@@outdoorsinspiration9284, what we call a range flag. You hang a red flag on it to let everyone know live firing is going on.
Nice one, it's getting back to long starry nights which are my favourite for wild camping 👍🏕️
Mine too, Duncan - a bit of bad weather will be an added bonus :)
