I've done Snowdon, Cadair Idris, Pen Y Fan and the three peaks of Fan Brecheiniog and the Beacons, mostly solo. Awesome to see Clare packing that rucksack like I pack mine. Very impressed with kit and packing 🔥👌🌳🔥👌🌳
I am so glad, you are not using a Lanshan tent in those conditions. The Hilleberg will keep you safe in high winds and the worst of storms in the winter. Safe travels. Always. =)
I'm 45 years old and considering doing camping for the first time (for some reason unknown to me) - picking up some valuable tips from these videos
Practice pooping on the floor. Make sure to take a trowel too so you can bury it. I take a lot of food and all the walking with the weight on makes me poop. I'm still not great at pooping outdoors but my friend keeps a look out for me and sings me soothing songs. He keeps a logbook and is coaching me on it. He's a very experienced pooper but I'm getting there, I'm getting there.
@chucknutly3290 I'm not gonna tell you I'm an expert at pooping on the ground, but I will say that all my neighbors believe I have a dog.
@@lucymoody4927 This pleases me immensely. Thank you for sharing that with me Lucy.
Claire, you are amazing. You make winter hiking look fun again.
Thank you for taking the time to show the viewer all the items you take and how you pack them away . Very informative and helpful ! Love how you express your love for the out of doors and your joy for solo camping . Your videos are very ‘artful’ and shows the viewer your proficient use of filming equipment ! Mary Shepherd of Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦
As a nature person myself I appreciate your video, exploring nature and promoting its care is done beautifully here. Your cinematography is simply flawless!🔥🔥
Heyy Nature Friend 🌿 Thank you so much :)
Hi Claire. Received an odd reply from you or not you asking me to whatsapp? You maybe getting hacked. 👍
@@Garncec I've just got the same message. So it looks like she's been hacked .
@@bsajoss cheers pal
@@Garncec I have a reply to mine, however it does not show when I click it. Wonder if it too was a spam attack?
Not sure where to start with the comments…first off, omg your rapid evolution to one of the top UA-cam channels, you should have a million subscribers. The gear choices show an obvious series of choices based on USE, not some armchair BS. I’ve never even seen a Hilleberg tent but from what I can tell they are the Gold Standard of bomber tents. You post some of the absolute best videos on UA-cam, I hope you continue! I’m still not sure how your partner can leave you to do these solo adventures, be safe!
Ahh thank you, you are too kind! 🤗 The growth of the channel has shocked me too and is still something I struggle to get my head around (I'm actually quite introverted believe it or not haha!) but I'm very grateful for it :) Yep this gear is serving me well for winter, it's a constantly evolving thing I find. Hope you're having a great week! 🌿🐻 Claire
You've got quite a comprehensive set of gear there, just 1 change I would recommend is to exchange the opinel for a multi tool, small swiss army knife or similar, couple of extra tools there, incase you need to tighten a screw up on your tripod or similar. Just a thought, the wife an I always look forward to your delightful videos. Thanks Ant
Really glad to see you have a personal locator beacon and drew attention to its importance.
Lots of thoughts, as usual. I’ll stick with two. 1. A beautiful winter camp. 2. You make me smile. 🥰 All the best. Be safe.
It’s good to see you have a routine packing and unpacking it helps to make sure you don’t forget something.
A tip I learned from my grandma, she put scented soap in drawers at home, when you open a drawer it had an amazing smell so I pack my stuff with a bar of my favourite soap it’s so nice.
Ahh that's nice, I totally get that ☺️ I don't wear perfume but one of my photography clients gave me a tiny vial of lovely fragrance. So I spray it on a sweet elephant I keep on my bed, I also spray it on my camping pillow so it makes my tent smell like my bed at home. It's a simple comfort that can make all the difference in a stormy or unfamiliar territory 🤍
I hear the voice of experience speaking here. Tried and true equipment gives us all the best opportunity for success.
Quality tent for keeping you safe in winter I was getting a bit worried with some of those pole tents Nice layout
Thank you for sharing, in detail, your winter kit load out. Everything had purpose and quality. I was especially impressed with your meals being much, much better than anything Mountain House ever produced. Again, the best part is that you have a glow about you, you radiate a joy of life that is quite attractive and very rare in today's world. Well done 😊
Thank you for sharing this video Claire. You do an amazing job packing your ruck sack. You are an amazing woman and encouraging to many of us. Looking forward to seeing your next adventure. Take care and stay safe and have fun 😊
Aw thank you Terry :D it's a big ol' thing with all that winter gear 🌨 you too, have a nice week :) Claire 🐻
Winter wildcamping? You are a badass Claire! Thank you for continuing to inspire us to get out there and have adventures-
Haha, love the sound of the local mountain goat at 1:22 xD
Good for you getting the Hilleberg Soulo. It’s a bombshell of a tent. It will keep you safe in really bad weather. I speak from experience, when I say it can take definitely take on horrible weather , and come out on top. ATB 🇳🇴
Been waiting on this video
What a find!!! I’m planning my first proper solo camp and hike and some of these tips and items I’d never have thought of! Very well presented and clear - concise! New subscriber!
It’s almost as if you’ve done this before! 😂
Excellent attention to detail. Anything that helps keep you safe and comfortable so that you can continue to make your lovely videos is fine by me.
Thank you, Claire.
Hehe thank you Perry 😊🏕 Have a lovely week :)

Very interesting Claire. Amazing what you can fit in a ruck sack. 👍🏻
Merci Claire...pour cette vidéo " rafraîchissante " ! ! ! Salutations de France...😄😀😘
I recommend you bring a space blanket too, it can absolutely save your life and warm you up within minutes.
Claire, your dedication and creativity truly shine through in every video! The way you seamlessly blend your B-roll with your A-roll is not only refreshing but also incredibly engaging. It feels like we're right there with you, experiencing every adventure and gear review firsthand. Keep up the fantastic work-it's such a joy to follow along on your journeys! I can’t wait to see where you take us next and hope you keep making videos for many years to come!
Absolutely fantastic video again Claire, you really know how to get the wild camping story across. Very much appreciate the effort you put in, and always look forward to seeing the next trip. Best wishes.
Thank you, means a lot 🤍❄️🌨 have a lovely week :)
There is no bad weather only bad gear. I love camping in the snow it’s so quiet and peaceful.
I was planning on doing a video about my stuff and how I pack my rucksack, great minds think alike!!!
I laughed at digging a hole for your nuts! 😂🤣😂
Great video and I always love seeing what other people use! Happy adventures this weekend my lovely friend!! 🥰
Loved this video Claire. I've been hiking for over 40 years. Although I have lots of quality gear, I have never been able to afford the Hilleberg Soulo tent. Just checked prices, with the base liner, nearly one thousand pounds !! Who in this modern day can afford to spend that much on a tent ? It's almost as much as my old car ! Not realistic today for most.
Cheap as chips
@Theorangeman. nope just realistic and practical
There are other tents out there, and if you go used, you can get a deal. If you have a local outdoor club, you may also be able to split costs with other members. REI in the states rents winter gear; not sure if there's a UK equivalent, but it's a good way to get into it if you only do it once or twice a season. Still gotta have the clothes, though.
One of my fav outdoor UA-camrs and when I am looking for good information I always end up on your channel ❤ good the same snow cleats and they are great!
That's a great winter setup... Worth the extra weight, to be safe, warm and dry in those conditions. It isn't cheap, as you said, but you need gear to be able to do the job for which it's intended, and be reliable in winter. Cheers Claire.
Thanks I do feel nice and prepared with this :) Yep no way around the expense really in freezing temps. Thanks for watching, have a lovely rest-of-the-week 🤗🌨🤍
your best equipment is your smile and top of the range niceness and the world leader in cheerfulness
Good to see how much you have learned over many trips, these life skills will be very useful in life as well as camping, thanks for sharing Claire 😊👍🏽⛺️♥️
It's really impressive how you have developed such a comprehensive set of kit, all so essential, especially considering the very real hazards of winter exploration. Without any detail what would you say, everything you have as your stand-up kit as described, would cost. By the way glad we haven't heard any more about your previously troublesome ankle. kind regards.
Another great video as always, and I've learnt a few new things... and that I need to buy and couple things and also consider getting in the near future!
So not only a good watch but informative as well so 👌😉
Now that's a great cold weather gear setup you've got there Claire! And you really have everything all dialed-in too by the looks of it 👍 Hopefully you're able to get in a few more awesome snowy winter adventures! I hope that the rest of your week is absolutely amazing my friend :)
Stay wild.... 🐻 -John
Thanks John, ahh I'd love one more this Winter if circumstances allow, but if not I'm just very grateful for this one 🌨🤍❄️ Hope you're having a nice week too 🤗 Claire
@@WildBeare You're very welcome Claire 😊 I can certainly relate to your gratitude... each trip like this is one to be cherished without a doubt. Still... I'll send some snow your way just in case ;) we definitely have plenty here! The week's been a great one by the way (thank you). I hope that you have a wonderful weekend! Much love.... -John
most excellent especially the safety oriented comments. All is well when all is well, but when you need things great to have it close to hand in all the right places.
Great video. I like your use of the bottom compartment for cook kit etc. I’ll try that on mine. A suggestion for you regarding the tent…,don’t put it into the nyloflume bag since the tent, even thought it’s in its own stuff sack, can be damp. Close the pack liner first without the tent inside it and this will give you more of the pack liner bag to twist closed. Then toss the tent in on top.
Heavy is not all that bad if you need to have the weight for a purpose. Thanks for sharing with us Claire.
Brilliant gear systems! shelter system, sleep system, cooking system and great pack and packing system.. 👍 🥰
This is a very practical loadout. That ice axe looks like it could even protect you from wolves.
Thanks for buying all that expensive gear and testing it out for us :) The video is LOVELY (as always)
Thank you 🤗🌿🐻
If it isn't obvious from Claire's video, always pack the bag in the reverse order you need the stuff. Tent first, in case it,s raining or snowing. Then the floor/mats, and the sleep system to unroll onto it. Unless you plan to cook enroute, cooker and food come next, followed by other gear you'll want in the tent.
I do admire you, so gutsy and so well organized, you do know what your doing, and so confident, I'm a bloke and I couldn't begin to do what you do!!!
De France ... surtout en France, c'est un réel plaisir de suivre vos aventures en pleine nature, de vous écouter. Quelle fraîcheur!
This is literally the best winter camping video 👍 💙❤
ClaireBeare!!! I was mostly amazed that you put your tent INSIDE your rucksack! I usually strap mine on top. Thanks for the video!
I really enjoy your video's. No critism because I personally am dyslexic but can remember from my St Johns first aid from over 55 years ago, @5:52 taw · nuh · kay - it is from the French from tourner “to turn”. Keep up the brilliant work anyway.
Nice one girl. Great vid. Good info and loved the way you pack your sack Cheers.
Wow!! Looks super cozy. Lovin the drone intro. ty for sharing!!
You are an inspirational light in the world of camping and backpacking.
By gum that’s some kit ..😊 I must be slumping it when I disappear on a trip . Very good I’ll nip out shopping read for next winter 🥶. Enjoy
Good point about keeping your first aid kit accessible. Last week I accidently cut off part of the tip of my finger with my knife. Carelessness on my part. Digging around one handed for the first aid kit was pretty difficult, and also discovered how difficult it is to open a wound dressing with one hand! I think I might look at getting a mini first aid pouch to keep clipped to my belt.
Thank you for a very good video. I will pass this along to anyone who is thinking about winter camping. Love your stuff.
Excellent! You read my mind! :) After watching your last video, my daughter and I were wondering about your gear list and how you go about packing everything to keep it dry. This is incredibly helpful! We are fair weather backpackers but you have inspired us to attempt a winter backpacking trip. Probably not in the snow just yet. :) Thank you!!
Ahh yay, so glad you found it useful :) I love winter, much less bitey, stingy things. Happy camping you guys! 🤗🌨🤍
It's all awesome! Thank you for sharing.
GREAT video! I'm so happy to see that you are very well prepared for the elements, Claire! Nothing left to do now,, but to have fun! Take care, Wild One!
Yass, absolutely :D Thanks you too Russell 🤗🌨🤍
Love the Ocoopa handwarmer. I suffer from raynaunds and winter is unbearable for me to go out and walk my dogs in so l have two of them and they really are a godsend. They get so warm
Great video. Right to the products without a lot of chatter before.
I do enjoy your combination of lightweight backpacking and the use of modern equipment. I do hope that you keep that jovial, positive method in all your uploads?
Practical advice and no doom.
Yey the disappearing jump thingy is back 😊 great video, you can tell lots of thought goes into your trips! Thanks for sharing
A great guide to people thinking of doing this sort of stuff. I would suggest putting the ice axe through the loop at the bottom of the rucksack and then tip it up and secure with the rucksack bungee so the tip points upwards. It keeps it further out of harms way on the back of the rucksack, should you fall your pack will protect you.
Thank you WildBeare. That was interesting and really useful for someone like me needing a bit of guidance on what gear to consider when there is so much choice out there.
She loves her gear. So young and so strong.
I like to try the Seal Skin gloves. The ones in the past trapped too much sweat. A light disposable plastic bag liner. Good idea.
I like my gear but I learned over the years I like being pain free even more.
I have ditched the floor liner. Let the tent get damaged. A small sewing kit and sealant. Or just duct tape.
Thermarests tend to be very sensitive to puncture, even when its stored away, I use a different brand now.
Only one bag, for the wet tent. Everything else gets tossed in the backpack.
No walking stick, just a real stick and I toss it when not needed. No ice pick. Never ended up using it. It's for climbing.
And the HIGHEST fill down. It's warmer per pound. 650 is terrible. I use it now as a home blanket. 800+ for trips. And one that is snug, it's warmer and lighter.
And wait for it .....
Want a hot tent to dry the gear but don't want to pack a stove? Install a large window with transparent material in the door of the tent.
Make a big campfire outside. A reflective on the inside to reflect the radiation back in. A good 30F warmer inside.
Campfires aren't allowed in many of the places Claire camps--they're the antithesis of "leave no trace" unless there's already a designated fire area.
your such an inspiration and strong woman. Well done you
I love your channel and the enthusiastic way you have of counting your routes. A greeting from Spain!
Hi Claire, tis Irish Bob.
Love your YT Channel and your efforts, and persona bear this out with increasing subscribers and views.
Enjoy your overall composition amongst the environment. Enjoy the narrative as well. Interesting gear choices.
Your spirit and appreciation of your environment is a most endearing quality.
You're a young woman of fine calibre. Bloody marvelous and genuine to boot.

Hello Mr Irish Bob! Ahh thanks so much, I'm very happy out there, glad you like my lil channel and I so appreciate your continued support 😊 I hope you are having a most wonderful week! Beat wishes from England (and Wales) ❄️🤍🌨 Claire
@@WildBeare Always appreciate and love your replies Claire.
Life is about enjoying each moment vigorously. This you do well Lass, this you do well
Ha got the same mat and bag . Use it here in Sierra navada Spain. Used it in kyrgyzstan last year and was sleeping in underwear and t shirt and was warm . Most of the other people on the trip were having to sleep in layers of clothes . Gas can be an issue, you need to remember cold weather gas and if there is no water and you are melting snow you will use 4 x what you would use if water was available. Have used 390g for an evening and breakfast + melting drinks. Very dangerous here at the moment as the snow has consolidated into ice and there have been 4 fatalities due to falls and hypothermia. A tip with your ice axe is if you are approaching risky ground tuck it down between your body and rucksack so you can deploy it without tacking your rucksack off which can unbalanced you. Lesson learned the hard way while snowshoeing. Great video as per usual.
Hi is this you or have you been hacked 😁
I'd love to wild camp in the snow. Another amazing video. Thankyou for posting it.
After all the occasions you’ve been flooded out or blown away I hope your Soulo will give you lots of sleep filled nights!! At risk of adding to your pack weight I decided recently I needed a bright light in case of emergency escape. I went for the Petzl Actik Core which gives 600 lumen.
Clare you are the greatest it’s just a joy to see you. Blessings to you from eastern Hungaria
Enjoy your posts. Have no intention of camping at all. But, seriously love, learning about the kit you use. Time Wildbeare, to let your fans make a contribution & give something back. Please.
A good video, I enjoyed it!
One tip I have is that don't pack your tent in the nylofume bag, because if it's for things you want to keep dry and your tent gets usually somewhat wet so it brings moisture in the bag. Greetings from Finland!
Cracking list Claire. I use an Osprey 50-70l dry bag instead of the plastic pack liner. I double it up instead of a bivy bag I put my down bag footbox in it.
Yes! When I saw your last video I said to myself, "self, that's an expensive tent"! I know folks that have them and for cold weather camping they say the Hillebergs can't be beat! I was going to ask why you don't use two trekking poles, but then realized you need a hand free to record with. Aren't those rechargeable electric handwarmers the best? Great video Claire!
Super efficient and well thought out. My pack weighs in at I'd say 30kilos minus food and water. Every time I tear it apart to lighten the load, I end up justifying putting it all back. Go figure.
Watching this as I cook my tea. You’re so good at making these videos, and wonderful company!
Very informative Claire. It gives everyone - and especially a novice like me - a clear indication of the sort of essentials required. Many Thanks - Rob.
Claire when I used to go out hiking or Elk hunting I would take a hot hands and put it under my hat. You show everyone the beauty of nature, Nature is GODS handiwork the reason I say that is because I dont need a man made Church when I'm out in Gods greatest cathedral. It is amazing how much gear you can get in your backpack. When I pack I spend more time packing than hiking. Take care and be safe.
Hey Claire once again a great video! Your attitude an humour always gets me. I noticed how you store your ice axe and was wondering why you didn’t use the dedicated ice axe storage straps?
However keep up the great work, I’m excited for whatever is next!
Love your videos. Keep them coming.
Like you I am also a cold sleeper, here in the Canadian Rockies you can camp in the middle of summer and wake up in the morning and it's minus 5 degrees and 2 inches of snow or more, you’ve help to make up my mind to buy the thermarest neoair xtherm max. Thanks Claire you're wonderful.
Ahh the Canadian Rockies look so amazing 😍 wow that's crazy! The xtherm mat is really good, hope you enjoy it :) Thank you 🤗 hope you're having a lovely week 🌿🐻
Again a fantastic review of product, how to pack, what to bring and how to stay safe. I felt nostalgic as i have one of the last New Zealand made mac pac packs. Which is mint. Ive always carried a cup of rice for emergencies. Also- I was reclecting on you falling into a bog and I recall the bogs in Shetland particularly the island of Yell. Very nasty. Took me a while to get the hang of walking them. Im going to put this gear review on twitter. Trust thats ok 👍
Hello 👋 Claire, greetings from Northern California. Thank you for sharing another outdoor adventure. You're certainly well prepared for a winter outdoor adventure. All the best to you. Stay safe and healthy out there. 🤗 👋
Hi Ronald! 👋 Hope you're good, best wishes from UK 🇬🇧 🤍🌨
Claire,
I just got back from a two week desert camping trip in Nevada, USA! Unfortunately, we had a huge wind storm blow through the camp, but because of your videos I was able to use your advice to reinforce my tent, calm myself down, and prevent any damage. After the storm, it turned out to be an amazing trip. So happy to watch your videos and learn from them!!
Sarah
Heyy Sarah! Ahh sorry about the storm but sounds like you handled it marvelously.. great experience too :) and so glad the rest of your trip was amazing 💚 thank you for watching my lil vids and hope you're having a lovely week :) Claire
Spare bootlace 👏 excellent idea. Great video!
I absolutely LOVE my Rab Ascent sleeping bag. Warm and puffy, like sleeping on a cloud. Pretty heavy though.
The expense of such kit is immaterial when your life is at stake. Well presented lass and hopefully the new to the camping fraternity will enjoy a safer and wonderful pastime. Thank you.
Thank you, yep I agree :) summer can be done on the cheap, winter not so much. Hope you're having a lovely week 🌿🐻
Thanks for the information and showing us what you like to use Claire. I always figure that if your gear keeps you warm and (most importantly) safe the price isn't that big of an issue. Love and respect from lower Alabama..!
Helloo from UK :D yep warmth and safety is paramount, although this isn't gear that I could have afforded before youtube, so I understand that it can be out of budget for many, as it would be for me too as a lone parent. Thanks for watching my lil vid, hope you're having a lovely week 🤗 Claire
Been looking forward to this one.
Fantastic video. I love the idea of using a dry bag for the tent. I think I’ll be looking at the Highlander foil mat. I will say one thing. If that’s ok? I think the axe you have is for climbing, as the lanyard is attached at the bottom. If you get a straight ice axe, that will have the lanyard attached near the top. So you can walk with it rather than climb. 🏕🏕
Thanks Neil! Ooo is it? I got this one because it's light and it seems to do the same thing, but I don't know anything about ice climbing so I'm probably missing something haha. My previous one had a straight shaft but it was a bit heavy for my liking. Thanks for watching my lil video and hope you're having a lovely week :) Claire 🌿🐻
Excellent kit, essential stuff right down to the spare boot lace 👏🏻😁 love it. 💪🏻
Great gear Claire. I don't normally camp in the winter, but your detailed description of the gear makes me think that I could do it. Stay Beautiful, ingenious, and warm.
Great location and filming wild beware , some stunning views and you seem to have a great set up ❤, buy the best you can afford you need it and depend on it to not let you down , a set of good night vision goggles is a must , in case you need to move on in the night or are disturbed , it’s the difference and gives you and edge and stops you walking of cliffs , stay safe and warm on your adventures
Wow, you got some 'really cool' gear there, as you said in the video. So much into that one rucksack!
Great winter kit, some very nice little extras which make things more comfortable and good to see normal food instead of the more expensive made-for-camping stuff. Instant pasta is a camping staple!
Thanks I freakin love my instant pasta! 😍 Chuck some herbs & spice in, so comforting hehe
Wow thank you! Got my shopping list going. You're so much fun !
Bravo. Your kit and skills continually improve… well done you..❤
