"First of all, the first pharmacies that had [the vaccine] were CVS and Walgreens and they had a long-term care mission, so they were going to the long-term care facilities. They got the vaccine in the middle of December, they started going to the long-term care facilities the third week in December to do LTCs," DeSantis told Alfonsi. "So that was their mission, that was very important and we trusted them to do that. As we got into January, we wanted to expand the distribution points.
"So yes, you had the counties, you had some drive-thru sites, you had hospitals that were doing a lot, but we wanted to get it into communities more. So we reached out to other retail pharmacies: Publix, Walmart, obviously CVS and Walgreens had to finish that mission and we said we're going to use you as soon as you're done with that," DeSantis continued.
The Republican went on to say that Publix was the "first one to raise their hand" to say they were ready to distribute the vaccine. They rolled out the vaccine on a "trial basis" in three counties, which was met with "100% positive" feedback from seniors.

Long term care is the term for retirement facilities. They were not offered at CVS or Walgreen's locations themselves. And the four Publix locations were in communities of elderly conservative households. You honestly trust a 100% satisfaction rate from a pharmacy?

Publix received those contracts in conjunction with various other partners. CVS and Walgreens actually received priority when the vaccine first rolled out and are continuing to get the lions share of the contract. If anything, Publix is late to the party.
As for prioritizing “rich areas” over rural areas..... there’s no merit to your argument. Rich areas aren’t being prioritized. “Rich” areas.... think you meant high population density areas... like Panama and Jacksonville (Jacksonville being primarily low income mind you) are more prone to the virus spreading than say, Melbourne or belle glade. As such they should and are receiving priority vaccination. That’s the most logical way to do it.
You fell for sixty minutes fake news. That’s not your fault. You can retract your original statement. No one would mock you for admitting sixty minutes got you. We have all fallen for fake stories before. But don’t double down on it.
DeSantis is quite arguably one of the best leaders through the pandemic. The spread was no worse than in California New York or Texas, yet we sustained a level of normalcy that made Texas look like California.

I grew up watching 60 minutes and can’t believe how a story like this under the 60 minutes brand could air and be defended by CBS! They need to do the right thing and issue a retraction.

@@bwhaz Quick edit: I messed up my math on deaths vs state population, should be 0.17% for FL and 0.25% for NY. Having two calculators open at the same time is bad m'kay.

Okay let us see if we can find other factors that could play into that, although New York has a smaller population than Florida lets look at how populations of cities could affect this, New York city is the most densely packed city in America, case in point New York city has 8.33m people in 301 sq mi for a grand total of 28,317 people per sq mi, the largest city in Florida is Jacksonville with 911k in a area 747.4 sq mi for a grand total of 1,178 people per sq mi.
With a virus that spreads from human to human via the air, a more densely packed area with have a higher case count leading to a higher number of death
-So I just crunched the numbers and looks pretty sad- Messed up my math, New York city alone has a -0.7%- 0.375% death rate vs its population, Jacksonville had a -3.6%- 0.14% death rate vs its population.
-Whole state death rate is 0.14% for Florida and 0.05% for New York.-

@@BlackCat6285 You don’t calculate death rates by population size that makes no sense. That’s like saying the Black Plague has a 0% chance of death because no one has it so 100% survival rate, wow! You divide the deaths by the number of cases. The only reason this thing seems deadly is because anyone who doesn’t understand statistics fudged up numbers and makes it sound like it’s super cereal. Did you know if you are healthy you have a 30x greater chance of a car crash taking you out? I mean if we shut down over something that is 30x less dangerous, why are cars even legal? We have millions of cases of vehicle travel every day. Literally millions more cases a day than Kung pao kovid and each case comes with a 30x risk.
