I so love the way you describe and demonstrate in a slow and easy to see and understand way. I've been sewing for years but am learning lots from your videos. Thank you for taking the time to do them. ✂😊
Laura, Thank you so much for this series. I have a five year old grandchild and would love to start her on a love of sewing. This series will give me a way to start her early and safely. Love the first session about no thread sewing, it was terrific. Thanks again Laura! You taught a grandmother some good information! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Wow packed with information. I too have a Bernina, and after purchasing from a dealer, the shop closed......therefore, I did not receive owners classes. Your visuals were priceless, thank you for doing this.......
This has been really helpful. For those of us that taught ourselves to sew, it's satisfying to have the gaps filled. Thank you for taking the time to go over the basics. You're my favourite.
This is great! As someone who has the beginning knowledge but wants to really understand sewing, this information is such a help!. Keep up the good work! We certainly appreciate it!
Thank you so much for your tutorials! I've completed a few projects and I love to sew but learning on my own has been difficult at times. Your information is easy to understand and I love how thorough you are. I hope to see more... bless you.
This was great. I learned some really great information, especially about spool placement. Please keep recording these for people like me without a solid sewing support system. The bobbin and needle tips were also very helpful. Thank you. You're the BEST.
I've been sewing over 5t years now since I was 13 and I really enjoy your Learn to Sew series. I'm putting them on a playlist for when I start helping my gteat niece learn to sew this coming summer
I'm a newer sewer. First year and self taught/UA-cam viewer. I love how in depth you're going with these videos, its nice to know why we do the things we do
Thank you so much for your tutorials. You are very clear, concise, and easy to hear. I learned to sew on a singer machine, but recently bought a used Bernina 210. Your tutorials are helping me learn this machine. Thank you!
Thanks, Laura! I don't consider myself a beginner but because I am self taught I don't always know the particulars about the reason why or how the sewing machine works. I am so glad I am able to watch your new series! I learned so much from this episode!!
Thank you, Laura! Great review and I learned something new - how to use the spongy thread supports 👏. Thanks too for the links to the super SCHMETZ needle/thread and trouble-shooting guides: very helpful. 😍
Well, I have to say that I am a self taught sewer for close to 40 years now and honestly you taught me a few things that I never knew! Thank you for sharing with us 😊
Laura: (** I have to write notes as I think of them - memory is horrible) OK WOW - been sewing for two years and no one every asked me about my needle. It they were broken, it was changed. If not, it was staying. I didn't know the importance of it. Learning so much - THANK YOU!
This has been so enjoyable. I have this particular Bernina sewing machine to take to classes and have really not had an opportunity to learn/practise with it since buying it. I have learned quite a bit today thank you
Thank you Laura. I’ve only recently discovered your tutorials but I’m slowly working my way through them. I’ve already learnt so much from you. I just wish I had access to all the amazing fabric and accessory suppliers that you have in the States. So far, I’ve had to order everything online from the U.K. as there isn’t much available here in rural Ireland. Can’t wait for the next episode in this series. 😁
Thanks for this series! I found you just as I’m starting to know a new machine (that replaced an ancient one). I especially appreciated information about the thread spools. I only have one horizontal spool because it came with my machine and I had no idea of the differences or the spool covers.
Thanks for such an easy video to watch and follow video. Now understanding how the different spools of thread and disk go together I'm sure a lot of my tension problems will disappear. Thanks
Loving this series so far. Excited to see more. In all your spare time...can you add to a list of possible videos for making a simple garment from start to finish on a regular sewing machine?
I’ve been sewing for many years and have been confused about the placement of thread and the thread locking disks you showed. I’ve watched this video twice and will watch it again.
I have this particular Bernina. Can you please do a video on using the heavier top stitching threads like for denin and setting up the bobbin. What thread to use in bobbin so there is a perfect outcome.
Be sure to always read your manual! My bobbin goes in with the thread tail on the left side of the bobbin like the letter P. On the winder, my bobbin has the thread come from the inside of the spool through the top hole. Each machine seems to be different in some small way.
Good information Laura, Thank you :-) I just bought a new Singer machine and the thread lays down like on my embroidery machine. Like the tip for thread so it doesn't get caught on the little notch. I have filed those off before, now I don't have to :-)
Thank yor for sending me an email, I did forget. Enjoying the good tips. Thanks again. I have a singer automatic threader, but can't figure how to work it.
Could you expound on how to set up a larger cone of thread and a free standing thread stand? Another important note regarding bobbin spool types is that each sewing machine maker will say whether to use a metal or plastic bobbin. They both can have the same size (example class15) and both will fit BUT if you use a metal bobbin in a machine that a plastic is to be used it will damage the area the bobbin sits in as it spins, conversely, a plastic bobbin will get chewed up in a metal bobbin recommended machine because it can’t withstand the way the bobbin mechanism works! I have an older metal bobbin machine for many years and recently obtained a newer machine recommending plastic bobbin ~ I asked if it mattered and that was the explanation why they aren’t interchangeable.
I think as a ‘rule of thumb’, front loaders using a bobbin case use metal bobbins and top loaders without a separate bobbin case prefer plastic bobbins.
I now have 2 machines and there are a couple of things that are different, not by much though. One has a front loading bobbin and needs pressure on the foot pedal to fill up the bobbin. The other loads the bobbin from the needle area, doesn't need to be powered by the foot pedal and stops automatically when the bobbin is full. Also, when the bobbin is poorly wound, there will be issues with the machine jamming once the sewing begins. Ask me how I know 🙃 Lol. Thanks for these wonderful videos, Laura ♥️
I have never sewn or used a sewing machine but would like to learn. This was very helpful. I had no idea that sewing machines needed a thread from the top and also one in the bottom. I'm not sure why ? It was difficult to see how you threaded it as the camera was too far away, but hopefully it's more obvious when you get closer to a machine :-) I also couldn't see how you got the top cotton through the needed. Was there just a lever that threads it ?
Oh, there are so many different ones, you can even get them that you can put your own design cover on them. www.bernina.com/en-CA/Products-CA/BERNINA-products/Accessories/Accessories-for-Sewing-Machines/BERNINA-DesignSkins%C2%AE

BRAVO! Superb and thorough explanation about topics I had found confusing, Laura! Thank you!!!

I can't say enough about how informative this was. Looking forward to the next video.
Thanks for having the information about the Bernina 215. Perfect sewing machine for a very young lady❣️. Thank💕
Loving this series, Laura! THANKS for taking the time to teach new sewers like me!
I've been sewing over 5t years now since I was 13 and I really enjoy your Learn to Sew series. I'm putting them on a playlist for when I start helping my gteat niece learn to sew this coming summer
As usual this was so helpful and interesting, I learnt so much, thank you so much for all your videos I have learnt so much from you.

Thank you , Laura for the info regarding the tension plates being engaged when the pressure foot is down. I wondered what kept the thread tight.
Thank you Laura. I’ve only recently discovered your tutorials but I’m slowly working my way through them. I’ve already learnt so much from you. Brilliant info and tips yet again. Thank you so much
Great. Enjoyed this one also. Looking forward to next one

Thanks for the charts!
Great video Laura!

You are the very best Laura in your presentations and teaching. I found the same when you attended our guild dinner in June.
thank you :)

PS. The demo needle is a hoot! :)
I love that big needle and you can see it in the back of some of my videos :)
Good information

5 thumbs up Laura!

I think we all have had that happen :)

I am interested in getting a laser cutting machine for cutting applique pieces. What should I look for?
At this time I do not have one, so, unfortunately, I can not help
Great info, loved the giant sewing needle, where can I get one,
It is from Schmetz needles www.schmetzneedles.com/category/SCHMETZ-SUPER-Needle-40
I have subscribed but are no longer getting videos automatically?
The bell icon needs to be clicked to get the notifications :)
I must change my needle more often than just when it bends or breaks.🙄
I'm sorry but that colour scheme of red and white on the sewing machine is awful. Can't Bernina do better than this?
Oh, there are so many different ones, you can even get them that you can put your own design cover on them. www.bernina.com/en-CA/Products-CA/BERNINA-products/Accessories/Accessories-for-Sewing-Machines/BERNINA-DesignSkins%C2%AE
I really like it but then my first machine was pink and white. 😁
I had an older pink machine too
