    Thanks to your video (and some of your introductory sewing machine vids) I was able to remove and replace a zipper in my son's favorite winter coat with my wife's grandmother's sewing machine which I have never used before. I felt a great sense of accomplishment, made even better by the joy on his face. Thank you "sew" much! :)

    Man anyone who is just learning to sew now is so lucky. This is great information for a newbie. I inherited a machine way back in the day and learned by trial and error and it took me long time to produce anything of quality. Not for me but thanks Laura for posting this series for brand new sewers.

    Thank you, Laura, for more great tips. Instead of a paint brush, I use makeup brushes. The big ones, normally used for loose face powder, are great for cleaning my bobbin area. The lint sticks to the brush, and when you take it out of the bobbin area, you can clean the brush. This way you don't spread your lint I your sewing area. The smaller, stiffer brushes are great for the feed dog areas. They fit between the feed dogs so you can "flick" the lint out of your machine, avoiding the chance the lint that may fall down into your machine. Hope this helps someone. Happy New Year, and blessings to you for all you do to make sewing so very easy. ❤️

    Hi Laura, your videos are so helpful. I am hoping you might do a review of rotary blade sharpeners and if they are worth the time and effort.

    I bought a tiny, super mini attachment for my hoover and I use it to vacuum my machine. My technician said my machine was the cleanest inside he's ever seen. The attachments are so tiny they fit into many parts of the machine once the baseplate is removed. I think it was a wonderful buy and I just can't do without it!

    I love frixxion pens for marking when I do quillts. The colour disappear by heat.
    To mark darts on garments or otherthings, I use carbon paper and a copy wheel.
    For cutting I use always rotary cutters because the fabric shifts when I'm cutting with scissors.

    Hi Laura. I recently purchased the greatest tool. It is a mini attachment I can use with my vacuum cleaner to clean out the lint from my sewing machine and serger. Absolutely wonderful and fairly inexpensive. I bought it through Amazon for just under $12.00. Schneider Industries Micro Vacuum Attachment 7 Piece Kit
    by Schneider Industries. I thnk it came from the UK.

    I have been having such a hard time trying to figure out the rulers I really need to start my quilting supplies. They aren’t cheap so I didn’t want to waste money. I have got an 8x12 mat but find it aggravating. I think it’s too small. What size would you recommend? I have yrs worth of sewing supplies but there are many other things I need as well. I do have something I would love for you to cover and that is all the feet and their purpose. Oh, also what size needles for different fabrics.
    Thank you so much for your time and knowledge you so freely share.

    I love your channel! I've learned so much from you and look forward to each episode. In my You Tube wandering I came across a channel called Bridal Sewing Techniques. She had a great time-saving tip I thought I'd pass along - using a razor blade instead of a seam ripper to undo mistakes. I tried it recently and couldn't believe how easy and fast it worked. Not only that, but I didn't have to tug on the material as I usually do. Keep up the good work and have a wonderful 2019!

    • @SewVeryEasy
      @SewVeryEasy  6 років тому

      Yes, a razor blade is a great seam ripper, :) thanks for shaing!

    • @blebecky
      @blebecky 5 років тому

      There is a quicker and safer way of ripping out those seams. It requires a little bit of practice so you don't cut your fabric. Put the ripper between the 2 pieces of fabric with the little ball pointing to the right ( or outside edge) and the blade next to the thread. Lay your piece flat and rip along the seam. If you tip the blade up you might cut the fabric (which I have done), but it rips very quickly.

    • @dale3404
      @dale3404 4 роки тому

      I have a tool I bought from Joanne fabrics which looks like a scalpel. It has replaceable blades. Another seam-ripping tool is electric hair clippers (if you can find them during the pandemic). Like any other tool, be careful you don’t cut your fabric. Take it easy.

      Susan Rascone hi i think that is the fons and porter marker. If so you simply pull the red top off. Where the clip is. And drop the lead in.

    Hey Laura, check this out. It's tiny vacuum cleaner attachments originally made for car detailing, but work great for cleaning lint and debris from your sewing machine. Micro Tool Kit for Dyson Handheld Cordless DC16 DC30 DC31 DC34 DC35 DC44 DC58 V6. You may have to copy and paste the link as I'm not that computer savey vs clicking on the link. I think it works for other vacuums as well, not just Dyson. I also purchased an oil bottle with an extendable straw for sewing machines, made specifically for sewing machines. Works great for getting into those really tight spots!!! By the way. You have the most informative vidieos for sewing!!! You set the bar. Awesome!!!

    Thank you, Laura! Very informative. 🥰 I have not found Alan effective marker for dark fabrics. What is the brand of your red and white marking pencil that accepts thin white leads?
    Also, I’m not partial to the green color of Olga cutting mats, even though the quality is high. I am looking for a high quality mat that is 40 by 60 inches. Can you recommend a brand? What is the brand of your gray/white mat?
    Thanks :)

    One question I’ve always wondered about is because you use a paper pattern to pin out on your fabric. Do you use your fabric scissors to cut out your items or not, because the paper pattern will dull your scissors?

    • @SewVeryEasy

      Cutting out your pattern first is the best way to go, :)

      Hey Mother hen. Just a word of experience, I sew as a hobby. I am a mechanic by trade. I'm here to tell you. If there are moving parts. They need lube. I don't care what the manufacture says. Just don't oil it too much. Perhaps they have run into this issue too many times, and decided to tell the general public not to oil their machines. Just a drop or two in the right area will work wonders. The main shaft where the needle is driven/controled where it goes up/down and incased in a guide is a good spot. I know it worked great on my machine. Was also told it did not need oil. Manufactures make appliances/vehicles/and most everything to last seven years, in case you did not know. That being said, if you oil it, it may last twice that long. They do not want that. They want you to buy a new machine every seven years. Hope this helped! But, then again, a new machine every seven years isn't a bad thing either. I prefer to keep mine substatially longer.
