Putting the pond theory to use this evening. Cold front came through last night, very light winds this evening but I’m on a pond bank. Hoping my scent pulls over the pond

Hot air RISES, other air (typically cooler) rushes to fill the void. Shade, terrain, water can all influence it but it is the changing AIR temp that causes the rising and falling. Land reflects sunlight, heat, energy far more, water absorbs it (exactly the same reason why people are far easier electrocuted in water than on land) .... This is why land, especially open land with no canopy, will effect air temps quicker.

Im my experiences, some lakes dont cool down over night, esp in the north. Well have 76° water and 50° air. Thats consistent up here.
Also any pool in the woods here tends to be spring fed and usually friged cold.

Hard to believe anything from someone that doesn't know how to wear a hat.
