  • Advertising can really mislead you when it comes to your health. Thinking a certain cooking oil is good for you can ruin the quality of your dinner, and harm your health.
    Huge corporations farm huge GMO crops, then highly process the seeds to get "vegetable oils". After spending all the money to do this, they have to convince you the oil is healthy so you will buy it.
    Your health is too important to buy this crap from big-food, based on the silly recommendations from big-medicine. Here is a list of the oils you Should use to cook with, and a list of the ones you should avoid. And, I'll also tell you the one you should get out of your house right now.

All that i knew was shitty margarine and halvarine which seemed like plastics in comparison. People literally feared eggs and butter when i grew up. Sounds like you are on a good path. I only use EV olive oil, butter and beef/pork fat. They spike cholesterol but that's actually a good thing. Back in the day, the only people eating plants were those who couldn't find an animal. Scientists talk about finding plant matter in the stomachs Of the prehistoric humans but I don't think we should form any health beliefs based on what we find in the dead. In the past, we had no way of consuming significant amounts of plant fat. That's just not natural. I think they use solvents to extract it. There's a reason hardly anyone has a meat allergy or intolerance.

    Don't throw that stuff out, use it to make candles! (Plenty of instructional videos on how to do it.) Just tested Crisco in a candle and it burned hours. Much longer than any other candles I've made and considering I only used a couple of tablespoons of the stuff I was amazed. Fantastic light source during emergencies.
    As far as eating, I tried Canola oil about a decade ago because I'd been told it was healthy. Felt queasy every time and stopped using it. Now use a very small amount of olive oil to put a light coating when air frying, lard for pan frying. Butter for eggs and fish.
    Thanks to all the apparently bad advice from the experts connected in any way to the government of food industry during the pandemic I've began to question everything I hear from them. At 71 I still shoot baskets and can hang long enough to do a full set with a granddaughter, who is in high school, on a tennis court so I don't think I've made too many bad decisions on my health.

      You cannot cook with EVOO, it is a cold prep oil for very low-temperature foods. As for refined olive oil, the refining process removes its health benefits. The problem with avocado oil is that so much of it is adulterated or blended. I choose coconut oil for cooking and EVOO for cold prep uses.

    Canola /rapeseed is a very good substitute for diesel in older cars. Or use it to oil garden fences
    That should be evident in the avoidance of eating it. Another indicator is the smell of the crops. It grows near me and it stinks. Further to the smell is that if your dog runs through it it will burn your dogs ears and eyes like mustard gas.

      just a heads-up....Kerrygold was sued because their box says "grass fed" but it turns out when it's raining or there's not enough grass they'll feed their cows grain and soy just like the rest of the commercial farms. So if you think you're getting 100% grass fed butter cows you're not. Now...some is better than none...but you're paying a premium price and they're fudging a tad on their labeling.

    • @user-no2bp4mn5i
      @user-no2bp4mn5i 5 років тому +8

      @@bloozedaddy There's nothing labeled 100% true or sure anywhere especially here in the US( I can't speak for other countries),unless you have your own farm and make EVERYTHING yourself, nothing you're buying is as amazing as they say it is. I have read about Kerry gold and it had close to perfect reviews and I buy it every once in a while. I usually make my own butter but sometimes I buy it too,when I need to make something that requires a stick or two of butter,for example. There's no company in the entire world that hasn't been sued by at least someone for any reason. We can't keep up with all the crazy stuff they to do make money. At least we started to realize the difference between butter and vegetable oil since the American heart association tells us more and more how bad butter is and how great vegetable oil,canola, soybean etc are for us. Respect!

    • @bloozedaddy
      @bloozedaddy 5 років тому +9

      AM ...you're missing my point...the suit was because Kerry Gold charges premium prices and their box clearly leads people to believe they use only grass fed cows....it doesn't say "mostly grass fed cows" or "as best as we can " ...it just says "milk from grass fed cows". It's deceptive while still being true. That's why the lawsuit. So the point is if you're gonna spend twice what you spend for other butter you should at least know you're not necessarily getting what you think you're getting. We all know some terms like "free range" and "cage free" are just gimmicks for the most part. Reviews are worthless if people aren't informed. I'm sure those reviews were based on flavor which is fine. I use Amish Roll butter which isn't from grass-fed milk...but I'm aware of that...and I've taste-tested it up against common store butters and it's more flavorful...that's why I use it. Many people think it's somehow nutritionally better because of it's packaging and the use of "Amish"...but the package doesn't make any such claims...so I don't have an issue with it.

    I am glad I just found your videos. I have subscribed and shared several of them tonight already. I have been doing a keto woe for 13 months (and down about 90 pounds). But I wanted to let you know about a great use for those bad oils. I just bought a small bottle this week...but I don't consume it. I am not kidding when I tell you...canola oil and other "vegetable" oils make excellent guns cleaners! I found this while searching for more affordable options to firearm cleaning and in my research, found a patented cleaner that is basically vegetable oil with an added chemical to make it "smell like gun oil"...because no one would pay $28 for a 4 oz bottle if it didn't smell like chemicals (actually what they charge). Its works great. My $2.50 investment should last several years. Anyway, I thought you may get a kick out of that. Keep up the great videos! Much appreciated.

    Thank you, it is good info, but extra virgin olive oil is better for being cold pressed. if you heat it it becomes a bad oil that hardens in the veins. Some recipe for getting rid of gallbladder advise to warm it before drinking, but drinking it cold mixed with lemon juice and having some warm water, would do the same. So served in salads at the table is advised, instead of refrigerate salads with it. Also, to avoid fried food is ideal, but if you need it use coconut oil, but be not so frugal. Never use Canola oil, which instead of been good, may cause so many health problems.

    Damn, you videos are dead on!!! I think if you explain in detail what canola oil and vegetable oils do to the cholesterol in our bodies, people would immediately chuck those bottles out the door or light them up! I am going through your videos little by little, so I do not know if you already touched on that topic but I know it will really shock people enough to start reading ingredients labels on EVERYTHING in their cabinet. Almost everything in the grocery stores has canola or soybean or some vegetable oil in the ingredients, ESPECIALLY those vegetarian/vegan products. Talk about cholesterol and what HDL/LDL/VLDL and Triglycerides mean by their numbers and ratios to ones overall health.
    It amazed me that after several years of having pretty damn low HDL, I could not raise it on the DASH diet, even with copious amounts of exercise and at some point with the aide of Metformin, it would increase! And now I do keto diet for 7 months and it is up 12 points! I am now only 2 points shy of being in normal range! My LDL was also increased to above normal, but my doctor didn't even bat an eyelash at the LDL because there are no markers of inflammation, plus my HDL increased and my blood pressure normalized! Go figure!
    What about sesame oil. Is it alright to eat it on salads? I just like the taste of it, and would not eat it daily.

      Габрюша I routinely ask my doctor to run labs because I'm proactive about my health now. last time my cholesterol levels came back, my hdl was 28. A couple weeks ago I restarted strict keto, and I had a dental emergency. I went to the er and since it involved my jaw they checked my heart and labs. When the nurse took my history I was describing my new meal plan; she commented on me eating eggs with off cholesterol. It was all I could not to literally laugh in her ignorant face. All my labs recently were vitamins, bun, protein and other nutrition counts and a complete blood count. Please correct me if I'm wrong Dr but I think my alt and ast levels are liver? My alk phos. was 71, now 89. My alt is was 12, its now 29, ast was 12 and is now 20, both say normal. My bilirubin is .4, same as before. My hgb went from 10.5 to 12.5 in 3 months, and my crit went from 31.5 about average for me, I'm anemic. Now its 36.1, (the first time in my entire life). In march my platelets were 115,000, now they're up to 137,000. That's better than they've been in months, maybe years. It took me 7 years to recover my platelets after I had a baby. Just last December I was told by my doctor that I can get blood counts every 6 months and see a hematologist just once a year. I used to have to get my blood checked quarterly and see him every 6 months. I know my platelets are probably still climbing; he released me from 3 and 6 month checks because they finally stopped falling. Keto works. All the meat greens and eggs are kicking my anemia's ass

    Rapeseed/Canola oil was used as machine lubricant. It has a natural bitter taste and must be processed to become palatable.
    Fun fact, coconut oil is great for removing sticker adhesive residue.

    How about palm fruit oil? I’m new to Keto and have enjoyed many of your videos but haven’t heard you mention that particular oil.

    Dr Berry I have a question for you about cooking oils. Is the cold press Canola & Sunflower oils that are made from small specialty companies and not the large manufacturing companies okay occasionally? They are more expensive and more difficult to find because of the different manufacturing process.

    I make my own butter, salted, unsalted, honey butter, garlic herb butter. I got a catalog that had a small hand crank churn from a company called Kilner and I bought it for about $32. They also sell and recommend wooden paddles, which I bought but don't use. I make one stick at a time. If anybody is interested, I'll be happy to share a recipe or 2 and some important tips I learned thru trial and error. PS: this is the best butter ever-even beats Kerrygold.

    Hi Dr Berry! Love your videos! A quick question: Is flaxseed oil bad for me? I like to pour a bit on tuna, packed in spring water. Cheers, Dale in the UK

    Hi dr just a quick question re extra virgin olive oil , I was under the impression that it’s not good if heated to a high temperature as it breaks down and can be a problem, is this the case ? Thank u

    Growing up in a Mexican household, my late mother ALWAYS cooked with lard. Until my dad was diagnosed with high cholesterol and we changed to corn oil. The food didn’t taste as good and we were unknowingly consuming poison

      The high cholesterol was from the carbohydrates and Sugers not the lard. I hope you dad is doing well.

    I have a shelf full of COSTCO canola 6 or 7 gallons. I used to cook and fry with it. It was supposed to be better than EVOO. Now it is going to be a diesel mixer in my tractor.
