What if I want to build up stamina and improve my endurance, which work out should I go to aside from HIIT every other day? Will just HIIT and resistance training be enough?
Dr. Sten Ekberg I’ve been doing low carb and intermittent fasting and my A1C has gone from 9.4 to 7.0. My insulin use has gone from 40 units to 5 and I’ve lost twenty pounds. My doctor told me last week she wants to take me off of insulin. I would then be med free. I’m 59 and went thru a quad bypass two years ago and felt like my life was over. I haven’t felt this great in decades!!!
I've lost 70 pounds in a year and it took about 6 months for my fasting glucose to get under 100 and it took 9 months to stop metformin. going to have my insulin, glucose and cortisol bloodwork done in September to see what my insulin resistance is. A1c has gone from 7.1 (on max dose of metformin and trajenta) to 5.2 with no meds. Hopefully in September it is under 5. Your videos explain the mechanisms occurring in our bodies very clearly. please keep putting out relevant and important videos for us. We all need nutritional and lifestyle education. Since I started my lifestyle change and my family has seen my improvements members of my family have also committed to the LCHF lifestyle and are also seeing benefits to their health. The advantage he has is a specialty, in depth studying of one field. It's too bad this wasn't a field years ago, instead it is treated as a simple disease that can be understood with little study on the side.
Not shocking... "Doctors" are getting paid to prescribe... Doesn't matter what the cause or real cure is.. I have a friend my age that will prob die from obesity and diabetes.. he eats total garbage in huge amounts and chugs it all down with diet soda.... he is on meds for all kinds of problems, gout, reflux, etc and his doctor has him convinced that nothing but medicine can help... I have tried to suggest things and he continues his ways... Sad..
The doctor in the clinic is more interested in getting you back. Thw internet docs are solving it and gaining popularity and reputation. They also offer you nothing that you can sue. You follow and fail, no problem. The clinic is a full business

Same here although I'm only 5 weeks in. So I cannot legitimately say "broken the addiction". However, this is the only 5 weeks in the past 40 years I've had practically 0 sugar. In 5 weeks I've not eaten more than 100g carb on any day, and I have had precisely 0 sugary foods or used any sugar/sweetener in any drink, and have only had small amounts of pineapple or blueberries as fruit, once daily, about 1/2 cup.
Very informative! I’m 63 yo male. It’s working for me. Off 4 meds now, A1c from 8 to 5.0 now. Lost 70 pounds. Keto and IF and exercising. Took a year so far but very happy about the results.

I've been diabetic for 10 years and I was taking 3 different meds a day and my A1C kept going up. I didn't want to go on insulin, so I started search for my own answers. In April I found UA-cam - Dr. Jason Fong and listened to his long discussions in reversing Diabetes and started eating meals with no breads, pastas, or anything with sugar. I subsequently found your channel and find it so much easier to follow. You pack alot of information in a relatively short period of time. In May my A1C was 7.9 and we had to reschedule our Dr. Appt till the end of July at which time I explained to my Dr what I was doing and he did another test and my A1C went down to 6.4. His words were WOW. I am trying the Keto/low carb diet and IF and my weight loss has been slow, but for me it is more about reversing my A1C. You are correct that everyone's experience is different. Thank you for all the understandable information that you have given those of us who are searching for a natural healthy way of healing.

@@oilinmylamp I was determined that I wasn't going on insulin. My weight loss is slow but forme it's all about reversing diabetes. I may have a piece of bread once every few months and I go right back. I must admit that I don't do all the counting, just eliminated sugar all bread and all pasta and sometimes depending on my schedule which is busy, I make keto deserts and meals. It is not easy so keep trying Heather!
Do you use a blood glucose meter to track how food reacts with your system? If you don't you should because you can pin point trends and figure out without a doubt what foods drive IR back up.

Thank you Glenn for sharing that. I'm 57, eat healthy, no grain, no milk since I was 21, skinny, I've worked out every day for years, in certain periods of my life. I only eat what comes out of the ground, no sugar and no salt my entire adult iife. Beer is what gave me IR. It started in 2007, after a divorce, I also went into the single party scene with a lot of social friends drinking every night beer. I've been some horrible events since and deaths in the family, accidents, and left my career to care for sick parents, and just drank beer in my free time. Last year my Sister died, and I realized when my neighbor said I don't even look the same as when he met me 4 years earlier, I realized I wasn't eating, I just forgot to. I started losing strength in my legs. Today is the first day I've gone all day without a beer. My feet swelled and I got some neuropathy and redness, more in my right leg because of an accident. My right foot I smashed in 2016 is my indicator light, and I cracked that ankle in December again on stairs. I've lived on an alkaline diet for years and I am skinny, I don't eat carbs, pasta, chips, nothing in a bag, no candy or anything from a factory or in a freezer. If my electricity goes off, my diet remains the same. I haven't been sick or to a doctor in 10 years, not even for a broken foot, ankle or pulled ligaments in my knee at the gym this summer. I even think I had Covid for two months in December of 2019 coughing up phlegm and came out fine. This year my Mother died of COVID, or better said the jabs after she recovered, and I drank literally all day long this summer until I have trouble walking and now peeing. I'm at my low point, and I'm going to speed up my recovery and stop beer completely. It's the only factor there is for me, and I saturated myself this summer after she died in May and my knee laid me up for two months. I'm glad to hear in 6 months probably I will feel transformed, even if I'm not cured for more years, I can manage that with my normal diet which is alkaline and keto already.

@@AlexAquarius963 take 100mg of b1 for a few days, then switch to 25mg of b1 the mornings after you drink. This will change your life. You will get your energy back. Thiamine gets depleted by alcohol and you can only store 18 days of it in your living. Once you are depleted, you cant convert food into energy very well.

I hope you’re doing better. I cut back completely or substantially on a lot of things that spiked my blood sugar, like ice cream, white potatoes, cereal, and sugary desserts. I had stopped bread at home for years now, and stopped eating white dinner biscuits and other bread items at dinners while dining at other people’s’ homes, but I would have bread on occasion, if eating at a restaurant. I also lost 9 pounds. My A1C went from 6.4 to 6.9 at my last physical, three weeks ago and I couldn’t figure out why. So, I sat down and made a list of things to eliminate completely . All items I still ate on occasion were listed: Bread at restaurants, including sandwich bread Restaurant croutons on salads Tortillas and tortilla chips Potatoes, including sweet potatoes Pasta (which I rarely ate) White rice Crackers Cookies (already reduced) Race Trac or Menche’s Yogurt The occasional chocolate shake Occasional McDonalds sundae Any fried foods Coffee creamer containing sugar Even those after-dinner mints at restaurants. I’m also adding more muscle at the gym, as it helps to reduce blood sugar and A1C levels. I want to lose about 40 more pounds, as well. Let’s see what happens. 🤞🏼🤞🏼
I wish you all the will one needs to take the first steps. After that the rest is easy. As you not only see results but feel better and full all the time I was doing 2mad the first 10 days but then I found myself no longer hungry for the second meal in my 6 hot window., And am Omad most days. As Dr sten tells you your body will tell you. My brain fog is gone and my energy is through the roof! Although it's possible my results were a little faster as I was prediabetic and not taking insulin yet. I have no doubt if I continued the standard American diet instead of making these changes, I would be well on my way to drs saying I had to go on insulin. I watch at least one video a day of Dr. Stens in order to keep myself on track, vigilant and hopeful. As well as absorbing the knowledge so this way can be second nature for me. If we were all walking around see through and could see the actions and reaction of foods on ours bodies, it would be so much easier to undo the many years of misdirection and misinformation on this
Since 12th February 2023,I stopped eating 1. Table Sugar 2. Rice ( All types) 3. Bakery Products ( Refined Carbohydrates) 4. Flavored Drinks ( Nescafé, Nestea etc ) 5. Soda drinks ( Coca Cola, Sprite, Fanta etc..) & adapted to a 12 hour Fasting at Night. Recorded Fasting Blood Glucose Every Morning and graphed with excel & monitored the fluctuations & managed to maintain it two months average of 96.5 mg/dl. Increased intake of Protein (Chicken, Fish, Eggs,Salmon), Olive oil & Green Leafy Veggies (Mainly Cauliflower, Beans, Okra, Brokali & Parsley). During the day I had some milk with added coffee and dark chocolates ( 50% of Cocoa made in Sri Lanka) & occasionally some curd with one or two teaspoons of Honey. My HBA1c dropped from 9.3 to 5.7 by 12th April 2023 (Within exactly 60 days). Weight loss exactly 8kg. My BMI is exactly 22. I am so happy to bring down My HBA1c to None Diabetic level without any doctor fees, Prescription Drug Fees, Unnecessary Lab Report Fees & without time wasting. I am planning to drop it to 5 by 12 th May 2023. Meantime, I got my Lipid Profile, eGFR (Kidney Function Test), Complete Liver Profile, Full Blood Count & Specially the C - Peptide Report that measured the functionality of pancreas & all reports are almost perfect. My husband and I have been eating the suggested foods and are down to 2 meals a day. We exercise 1 to 2 times a day by walking and bike rides. We are also intermittent fasting. Husband Kim went from 220 to 192, I went from 198 to 184! The inches not the weight is what is even more amazing. We both sleep better. My husband slowly has stopped his statin and blood pressure meds. We have removed 90% of our sugar and bread intake and my arthritis has improved 90%. We are blessed to have found your videos and appreciate your work in presenting life saving and changing ways to eat good quality food and feel great. Thank you 😊
I was morbidly obese for years. I finally paid the price. I'm down nearly 80 pounds and am no longer morbidly obese. I still need to lose weight though. My glucose readings are going down. So that is good.

The low fat, high carb diets that were touted for years, were so destructive to me and many others. This is the most informative and useful video and explanation I've seen.
@@adrianavram4911 not really. I ate a lot of whole grains. We are all an experiment of one. What works for you does not necessarily work for me. There is no "one size fits all." But I agree processed foods and some oils are very destructive. .
I agree 1000%! I believe mainstream medicine is nutritionally ignorant and made an very ignorant decision in the 1950's to tell us all (and the entire US food industry) to cut fat, eat carbs and protein and hence mainstream medicine has created an epidemic of diabetics in the USA.
That was the diet advice I had for years. It made me fat and ill and my blocked gall bladder had to be removed. The statins and blood pressure etc drugs all contain lactose and make you fat and insulin resistant with a fatty liver.
My blood sugar was at 12.5. I got serious about losing weight, I was on Lantus and another insulin, and taking Metformin. I went Keto/Low Carb, added some exercise, and now I'm at 6.5 and am not taking any meds. It took two years. Everything you are sharing is very informative and as far as my research is well said. Hey, I noticed you brought your A1c down to 5.2 in four months. I'm curious, has your body returned to how it used to be? For example, are you able to eat some sweets without any issues, like you did before, without having a severe reaction to carbs or your insulin levels getting out of control?
I've been eating Keto for 3 months and my weight loss had plateaued. I started intermittent fasting and my weight loss has really taken off. I've lost 40 lbs so far (250 to 210). After a 48 hr fast, I lost 6.2 lbs. I was on a walker after having a hip replacement last August, then found out that a lot of my problem was sciatica from degenaterive disc disease. I am completely off blood pressure meds now (was on 2) and I am walking almost normally again. I go to the gym 2 or 3 days a week, and I generally feel better. I feel like I was on a downward spiral to a slow and painful death. Now I am on my way back to being a young man again. I love watching your videos as inspiration to keep going. Thank you so much!

4:25 may have taken 5-20 years to become insulin resistant. 9:06 may take years to reverse insulin resistance. 3-14 day repeat fasting may be necessary 10:26 takes years to change cell memory 'body weight set point' 12:12 genetic predisposition

Great video. Your closing point is especially important. We live in an instant gratification society. Changing your body/health is not instant. It takes time. There's no quick fix.
I’ve done things right my whole life, gave birth and raised five healthy babies to adulthood, maintained my weight and and figure, and have never been on medication...the reason is because I’m literally terrified of entering the medical system. Unless you break a bone, medical doctors have NO IDEA what they’re doing. They are scary. Once you get under their care, you NEVER get out. Thank you Dr Ekberg for being my doctor.
Absolutely right Athena, my brother has lung disease and dementia I'm always interjecting with doctors who want to over medicate or do unessesary testing. He's 5 years off cigarettes survied covid. No more x rays with ionizing radiation. I thank god were in Florida much better here.
I've not had a health insurance policy/plan for almost 30 years (I'm 73yo). So I'm forced to take care of my body -- I'm not so good at it, but, fortunately, haven't needed hospital care since 1986. I, too, am extremely leery of American-style medical care. They're great for trauma care, but horrible for lifestyle advice. It's kinda like, MDs know just enough of the health maintenance lingo to be a danger to others. A fulsome understanding of health maintenance is sadly not in their pharma toolshed. They are transactional technocrats. I can't beat them up about it. It's always been that way, going back hundreds of years. As one doctor I know says it, 'Your doctor may be the nicest person on the planet; but he/she still doesn't know how to cure the common cold.'
Wow. I have been watching keto/ iR/ fasting videos for years and this is the most informative video I think I’ve ever seen. The real gem is your explanation that it can take months to right your damaged blood sugar/ insulin so all those people who get upset and quit because after 3 weeks they hit a stall (after losing 5-10lb wAter weight) thinking it doesn’t work , when in reality it’s a huge wake up call that your body is so damaged you need to stick to it until it works. Because one things for sure, quitting never helps .
I had no idea how bad sugar and carbs (in the quantities I was eating) really were. Watching your videos has helped me reverse years of neglect and I'm happy too say I'm a much healthier person now. Keep up the good work doc!
Thank you for going into detail about reversing diabetes! I’m in the stubborn category of being diabetic for 25 years (I’m 60 y/o, hispanic). Based on what your observations are, I started getting insulin resistant probably in my late teens! Yikes! My mom & dad fed us a lot of carbs: jelly donuts, tortillas, tamales, Mexican sweet bread. My A1C is still high and I’m severely addicted to carbs (aka sugar). I’ve been doing keto, on& off, and IF. I’ve got to put forth more effort 😢! I’ve lost 25 lbs and still have 20 lbs to go. My liver is fatty & I’m certain my pancreas is also. Nonetheless, I know what I need to do. No more excuses. IF and keto has helped me regain my energy and I feel strong & fit.Thank you once again for your help!! I’ve been exercising and I’m pretty active, but I see now, that my condition requires strict adherence to a healthier keto lifestyle. Forever

This finally explains a lot me. My parents generation didn't start getting heavy till they were in their middle age. Born in the twenties they ate very little processed food. It started in the fifties and sixties when all the junk was introduced. Fortunately our mother fed us mostly whole foods. While working full time!!!
Brought my A1C down from 7.2 to 6 in 3 months and lost 32 lbs by eliminating white everything -sugar, flour, rice, etc and swimming 4-5 times a week for an hour. Also fasting once a week and IF every day. Long way to go but feel so much better. I’m 65 and ready for a healthy “old” age!

To me Keto is not a diet its' a lifestyle. I've only been on Keto for a few months and I am diabetic and have been since my early 30's and it runs heavily on both sides of my family. Since being on Keto I haven't felt this good since my 20's....I have more energy, my sugar cravings have stopped, my blood sugars are better and I've lost about 8lbs. I know I have extreme insulin resistance and that's why I haven't lost more but I'm not focused on that I'm focused on getting healthy and the rest will come.
Be patient and it will get better and better, it took me about 6 months to work keto into my lifestyle without making mistakes here and there. Also to really figure out what to add back into my diet after taking a lot out of it. I am now 2.5 years into it now 72 lbs lost and feel great. Keto cookbooks are helpful to get ideas on changing things up. Good luck to you!

Very accurate information. I am been fighting my stubborn prediabetes for almost 2 years ( prediabetes for 2 decades without knowing. Got blood work done every year but no doctor ever mentioned). I am an active lifestyle practicing sports, tennis, swimming since young age. When getting older I walk 2 hours daily and swimming 30 laps, 5 times a week. I have the history of diabetes from mother and research constantly for a remedy. Since 2021 I started fasting from 18 to OMAD variation, daily, cut completely all refined sugar, restrict carbs as much I can. I can finally bring down blood glucose to the 80 from 118, A1C 5.2 from 5.8. But take only a couple days to jump back to the high over 110 fasted when breaking the rules. It's not a joke. High blood glucose and insulin resistant do take a long time to reverse with a proper nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, discipline and persistency. There is no short cuts or fast remedies.
It took me about 4 months to drop my A1C from 6.0 to 4.6 and to loose about 40 lbs. After a year I am down 55 lbs to about what I weighed in collage (I'm 70 now). I had been insulin resistant for quite some time and I know that I probably will always have a tendency to be that way. I watch what I eat and try to stay Keto as much as I can. Every now and then I will cheat (usually at social events). I have to say that I learned so much from UA-cam doctors. I know a lot more than my everyday physician does. Unfortunately there are no physicians around my area in TN that deal with nutrition as a cure. They are all pill pushers and most of the people are extremely overweight and probably type 2 diabetic . Even some of my friends but I can’t seem to get them to understand or care.
My sister went from insulin to no insulinon Keto diet and I was impressed....so I finally listened to her and now my morning blood sugar is averaging 110 without medication. if I take medication its as low as 70

I couldn't agree more. I'm in the Chattanooga area and diabetes is almost an epidemic around here. It won't be until the health insurance providers include holistic, functional medicine practioners in their networks that it'll change. Until then, the allopathic industry will be on top.
Thank you Dr. Ekberg for all the explanations and information. My A1C just tested 5.2, down from 5.7 last year. I cut back on carbs the middle of December. That was 4 months ago. I feel much better. My joints, circulation and energy are better. I lost about 14 pounds but didn't suffer hunger eating fish, meat, nuts, peanut butter and lots of fresh vegetables. Had berries and some oatmeal.
One time a Dr told me I was too fluffy, but didn't educate me on HOW to lose weight. But with the help of your videos Dr. Ekberg, I have gone from 278 to 248 and I'm still doing IF and LCHP. Thank you for saving my life and educating me!!

I saw a great enlightening explanation of why A1c measures your long term progress and they only test it every four months or so. It’s because it takes your body 3 or 4 months to replace its entire supply of red blood cells. So that finally makes sense.
I agree with everything in this video and have found this to work... coming from someone with type 2 and brought my A1c from a 8.3 down to 5.3 I feel I am able to comment on this from experience... I eat two means a day with 18 hours of fasting and only eat 25 grams of carbs a day... it just works! And NORMAL IS NOT NORMAL! My new normal is NORMAL!
Congrats Brian. I did the same...took a full year to reverse my T2D. I am OMAD now mostly meat, seafood with a few veggies 2x a week. Zero sugar for a year, zzero processed , use only butter and olive oil. Never hungry any longer, tons of energy and feel 30 yrs younger at 63

Hi. I'm from Greece.I have genetic diabitis,so I got diabitis type 2 almost 27 years ago.I' m on tablets to control diabitis and blood presuse for at least ten years.I'm 67 years old. Thanks to you ,Dr Sten Ekberg and your videos,that i'm waching on youtube,I have stoped taking my medication for diabitis and blood presure,I;m on keto diet,intermitend fasting (OMAD)and fasting for 48 hours ones a week.I was and I am exersizing every day.I'm doing 7-8 km evryday and 10-15 mountain walking every Sunday.My blood sugar is back to normal so my blood presure.Thank you very much for your great help...!!!!
Loved this information! The thought of returning to 75+ carbs a day does not seem realistic for my personal lifestyle. I've done keto for 2 years and went even stricter when I transitioned to carnivore. Depending on my mood, I'll throw in some roasted brussels sprouts or wrap my burger in lettuce. I also have gotten used to eating one meal a day. I feel amazing but still have a long way to go. I'm most proud of my changed relationship with food.

Thank you for sharing that. I am just starting keto (1 month) and check my weight, blood pressure, blood glucose, and ketosis (pee strips.) It is quite exciting AND serves for me as very good incentive to move forward in my journey back to excellent health. I ate pretty much what I wanted for all of my life. Everything you say makes so much sense. I started watching you a few months ago. I no longer buy fruit juice - I used to drink a (small) glass - or more - every day. I eat a fraction of the fruit I used to. I buy rye or other ancient grain breads. No longer afraid of butter and cheese (though I have to resist the urge to eat them in the evening, which I'm inclined to do even if not hungry :0) ). IF 2-3 times a week; I find 18:6 easy and once managed nearly 24h without much difficulty. Coffee now almost always black. Diet Coke replaced by fizzy water with fresh lemon juice. ACV every day. Makes me feel great and the change is permanent. About 4kg down on four months ago. Thanks!
One more amazing video! My A1C was 5.2 so my primary care refused to check my insulin. I decided to pay a private physician to do it, the result was an alarming 39.3. With just keto and IF it went down to 27.7 in 90 days. I refused medication after watching your videos. I have a long way to go and your videos are helping me understand the whole process. Do some 74 hour fasts. That will drop it too. Also what your protein. Look up the "insulin load" of food. You can basically determine how much insulin your body needs to process what you eat. If you try to keep that low, you can lower your insulin levels.
ineedhoez thank you for your advice but since I sent this message I was able to bring my insulin down to 7 😃!!! I was never able to do a fast that long but intermittent fasting surely helped!
It took me 2 years on a very strict keto diet to get rid of my insulin resistance. I was 70 when I started. I eat potatoes sometimes now, or beets on occasion with sardines, balsamic vinegar and olive oil (one of my favorite meals) and the occasional bread stick with cream cheese. But I have to say I feel 200% better than I did 5 years ago.

@@shermanelder2354 First, this only works for Type 2, the most common Your focus will need to be on insulin response. This isn't a "quick fix". Your glucose readings will take several months to really come down, but they will. 1) Keto. This is pretty critical as it cuts the carbs, which basically act like sugar. There are lots of keto channels, including Dr Sten's ! 2) Introduce Fasting . I chose Intermittent Fasting, and still do that. Really, it comes down to a)skip breakfast and b)skip the snacks after dinner (popcorn and such). You can do this. If you don't see results within 3 mos, I'd consider googling "Optimize your thyroid" or similar. You may have a Thyroid issue, that doesn't "tip the scale", but its just not "tuned up" . Good luck
For years I’ve been trying to tell the doctors that i feel awful after a carb heavy meal to the point that I feel like I’m going to faint. All they do is looking at my fasting blood sugar. I’m over 30 and finally i feel normal with Keto.
For years and still today I cannot get a handle on my problem. I do not drink any sodas or fruit juices. Do not hardly eat any breads, cakes, cookies, candies. I keep gaining weight and look very pregnant. It is so frustrating! I will not even bother wasting my time seeing a MD. I have anxiety issues, insomnia regularly. I will start taking the 5- HTP again, instead of Melatonin.
For a year now I have been telling my doctors that I feel off. I have something that is imbalanced I feel it. I never in a million years thought about diabetes. I started gaining 5 to 7 lb a week this year I kept saying I need to go see it endocrinologist give me a referral because something is imbalanced no one listened to me. Doctors will be the first ones to say listen to your bodies now my question is why didn't they listen to me. Now I just found out that I am insulin resistant 🤷🏿♀️🤷🏿♀️🥺😥

It took mi 3.5 years of persistent “work” on my A1c 5.3 and fasting insulin 2.4...Yes it is reversible, but required a lot of discipline! Once you reach your goals, to stay there, you become smarter, and what doctor Ekberg said, you cannot eat food anymore that you get there in first place! But good news is: you don’t need it, because you are already adapted on new “food style”! I didn’t even do keto, just regular eating with low carbs without sugar with a lot of walking. My philosophy is: Whatever goes up slow or fast, to get back you need almost the same time (ask heavy truckers about speed going up or down hill)! Something else, all these kito diets are OK for people from their 35-45-50, but for us elderly, different approach is needed.Thank you doctor Ekberg for your nice explanation about things as you did in your previous videos. I brought my A1C down from 6.3 to 5.8. First I lost about 14 pounds. Then I started weight training & built muscle. I added things to my diet that are supposed to help insulin resistance like chia seed, cinnamon & creatine(I take 5 mg every day). I also started eating a lot of pickled food for lunch. So far, so good.
I lost 40 lb in 3 months base on your video ,no sugar no carbs no alcohol no fruits and only olive oils , no fried food and i just walked 30 min a day. Thanks to you?🙏
It took me over two years to go from 300 lbs to 210 lbs and then I tried the fasting from 6 PM until 12 PM the next day with eating a few radishes or a stalk of celery for breakfast. I started to get glucose readings in the 80's and even a couple of times in the 70's.
IMHO: it took me decades to "break" this body, so it will take decades to "fix" it. If there is any absolute, the sooner I start, the better. Thanks for all the options Doc.
@@ineedhoez You can repair a lot of damage in three months. It will not take decades to fix it. That's ridiculous. One year of fasting and strict keto should be enough for most people. Then just continue.
with a inflamatory arthritis it took me one year of potato soup only to made it possible to eat other food without swollen joints and pain - next five year potatosoup with garlic was daily -20 years later i dont need to eat it at all
I saw my doc yesterday and told him I wanted the HOMA-IR test. He didn’t know what it was, looked it up and said, “yes, ok that makes sense”! In 9 weeks I’ve lost 35 pounds, and every level has come down. My A1C was 5.8 yesterday, it was 6.4, so things are headed in the right direction. Hubby is on this journey with me, with similar results. I told him, that this is our new way of life, and that we will always have to do some fasting, and simple eat less, while avoiding sugar and carbs like the plague. At least we’re in it together! Lucky there.

I’m 30 and have been insulin resistant since I was 20. After my mom was diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, it really woke me up and had me making big changes. Glad I found your videos before I got too far!

My A1C went from 9.8% to 5.1% on the last check. It's taken me about 1.5 years to get my "A1C" & blood sugar levels into the "normal" range. Still on my meds, which I'd like to reduce and eventually get off of if possible. I did it by dropping the sugar, refined carbohydrates, and dairy out of my diet.
This was an excellent explanation! I am a health care provider and since we are doing more advanced metabolic testing we are finding severe insulin resistance BEFORE diabetes. I will recommend this video for my patients to watch.
Thanks for such a great video! I was pre-diabetes with my fasting glucose at 6.2. I tried for months to lower it with no avail, but then decided to go low carb and no alcohol for 6 weeks and my fasting glucose it now 4.7. Not to mention I have lost 11 pounds, 6 of those in the last month!
Your fasting glucose is different than a1c, blood glucose is never stated with a decimal point. So that means your A1c is 6.2, and that is bad. Your fasting glucoces will be measured as a whole number like 90, 100, 125 etc, never ever as a number in single digits and a decimal point.
@@TheRoadhammer379 There are two different ways of measuring blood glucose levels: It can either be in terms of a molar concentration, measured in mmol/L or a mass concentration, measured in mg/dL. Most blood glucose meters are prefixed to measure in one or the other. mmol/L in mg/dL, conversion factor: 1 mmol/L = 18,018 mg/dL
I am 48 years old, I just started to follow your channel. Started to practice yoga and applied your recommendations. Now making 16-8 IF and feeling very energetic during the day. Thank you, the information Flow is priceless to me. I have lost 3 kgs. in 1 week. :) Except for the first night I started IF, did not feel pushed. I still get very low carbs though.. I love the way you think and talk, thanks. I'm insulin resistant, I'm doing low carb and keto, and intermiting fasting for about a year, I'm very happy with the results. I lost 25 lbs and my glucose is getting better and better in the morning. Fasting is critical for me, it saves my live. It is not something that happened over night.. I remember when I was around 11 years old I was a little over weight, and I decided not to eat breakfast and I went back to my normal weight in a few months. Thanks
Your advice is working for me, I was 114.5 kg I am now 106 working my way to goal of 100kg. My BMI suggests I should be 90kg but working towards first goal atm. Low carb and intermittent fasting is my approach and can be hard to start with,but being more conscious of the food I'm eating I'm now making better choices. After watching this vid taking on board how the insulin system works, I went onto a keto plain food only diet and increased my daily exercise slightly. It took 3 weeks to fine tune. This brought my fasting levels down from 7.3 to consistently 6.3. Then I added 500mg of Berberine per day. Now at the end of week 4, blood glucose levels are sitting at 5.9 after 10 hr fasting, and 5.7-9 2 hours after a meal. This guy is on the money, remove the sugar and lower your crap carb intake.
@@wab_ It’s all gone rather well. Some minor changes like dropping Berbarine after a month. Balsamic vinegar rather than apple cider. Just did 6mth blood test. Fasting down to 4.6, A1C at 4.3. Potassium at 4.6. Cholesterol is excellent with a little low on HDL. I’ll up the virgin olive oil from a 30ml shot to 50ml shot. I watched other UA-camrs to get the general diet I could live with. Intermittent fasting was basically 2 meals starting around 1pm and second at 7:30-8:30pm. I still have 2 cups of coffee with milk in the morning (bonus!) I tried introducing carbs like standard white bread (bacon sandwich white bread) or half a cooked potato (hot) once a day for 2 weeks Digestive system was not happy. Very cleansing, regularly remained the same.

I've been diagnosed 2 months ago with T2D with 10.7 a1c and a fasting bg of 300mg/dl (~17mmol/L) and now I'm trying to maintain a fasting bg of 75-85 mg/dl (~4.2-4.7) but I'm having a hard time doing that.. I'm off meds and I'm on keto and OMAD diet and my blood glucose goes down very slowly and it takes up to 14 hours to start going down after a meal.. I hope that would change if I continued on what I'm doing
@@wab_ Be patient, I used MyFitnessPal to work out roughly what I needed to eat, I then took the data from my glucose meter and graphed it. That way you know your reaction. Potassium levels seem to be relavent. After 3 months I dropped the my fitness plan as you sort of start to know what to eat. I too had issues with breakfast. I solved it by eating an avocado and a small bit of cheese and maybe 20ml of olive oil. About half an hour later, not hungry. Weight drops off pretty quick, so you need to watch calorie intake. Too much to soon is not good. Basically it’s retrained your system, it takes time, but you are getting a result. Which is way better than the alternative of diabetes or insulin resistance. Very nasty business. I have dead friends who had no feet.

I have just discovered your videos and can't thank you enough. I am 62yrs old, diabetic and I have started intermittent fasting and your advice is helping me understand the science behind it. My question is, how much fat should I be eating a day for it to be enough to replace carbs? I am not a great fan of fatty meats, but love cheese, fresh cream and nuts.
I'm picky I am not a fan of fatty meats either SO... I DO eat alot of ground meat and / or lean steaks or rump roasts AND then slather it with butter. Lots of eggs. And some cheese when i want some. I for one, do not over think, at all, the protein to fat ratio, which there's ALOT of discussion around this out there however it stressed me out so, I trust my body. Sometimes salmon or other fish with ALOT of delish butter and lemon or lime juice.. delish. Basically, almost 100% carnivore diet however I suppose not due to i do use spices i.e. Italian seasoning or garlic or onion powder ... and or avacadoes or a simple salad if I want once in a while. Oh and i love my black coffee... but, Keep it simple. Your life and health will turn around for the better. Fast. Break it down, keep it simple. Only suggestions ... oh ENJOY your crispy bacon ... don't forget LOTS of eggs. Enjoy.
Thank you for this video. It has answered so many questions I have about reversing my insuline resistance and getting my diabetes under control. I was diagnosed twenty years ago after years of thrush and ITUs. I had gestational diabetes too which seemed to disappear after delivery. I have managed to keep "goodish" control for a long time taking I gram of Metformin and using low carb diets when numbers began to shift. Now I am 75 and my diabetes nurse wants to give me another oral drug. Recently I had to have a CT scan and stopped my Metformin for 48 hours before and after. My blood glucose went way out of wack and I deperately want my next AIc to be good so I an embracing 16:8 intermittent fasting. After 3 weeks I am getting used to it and my glucose fasting readings are beginning to respond. I hope they will be good enough by June for me to be able to argue for trying to keep myself healthy through lifestyle changes. Better late than never! The good news was that my CT scan showed that my fatty liver has markedly improved as I have gradually lost weight over the past 3 years. Carol UK Carol
Thank you so much Dr Ekberg. This is possibly the best video I have watched on this subject and I've watched a lot. I'm 61 and started taking my type 2 diabetes seriously using a combination of diet and medication (Januvia 100mg a day) and in 2 months my blood sugar levels dropped from 13.2 to 7.2 which is incredible. I have an A1c check in 4 months time. I am intolerant to Metformin, the side effects are awful. You also get a feelgood factor from your achievements. Unfortunately exercise is difficult for me due to arthritis. Keep on rockin' in Atlanta !

I’ve been struggling with my weight for years and it took a physician specializing in orthopedics to educate me on this. My regular doctors pacified me and all but gave up hope for me. Life changing information this is. Thank you for explaining it so well, I finally have a mental grasp on this.

Something that I wish people would talk about more is anti-psychotic-induced insulin resistance. This was something I wound up with and almost nobody acknowledges it except for the side-effects on the bottle. It took me ten years to find a doctor who was even willing to acknowledge it as a medical problem for me. Everyone else assumed I was eating too much.

I've been losing weight on my waist, so that has me optimistic! Dr. never has said I'm pre-diabetic. been pretty low sugar, high vegie all my life. Now I'm doing IF, maybe too many vegies to be strict keto, but having good results. 5'10'', 152 lbs. 66 yrs old, going on 35!

When I was diagnosed as diabetic I was told that it was impossible to reverse the disease and, in fact, it would always get worse. This type of medical information keeps diabetic patients in a "victim" status. It wasn't until I found some videos by Jason Fung, Eric Berg and others that I realized that there is hope and that a plan can be followed to reduce and/or reverse diabetes. I'm not quite off of insulin yet but I'm close (had a lot of stumbles along the way).
In April 2017 I was obese, Type 2 Diabetic, with high blood pressure and high triglycerides. By the end of September, 2017 I was at normal weight, reversed the Diabetes and lowered to normal blood pressure and triglycerides. All blood markers were normal, except liver markers were low. The liver markers took a couple years to normalize. Within two weeks of starting my journey I was off the Metformin and blood pressure medications. I started with extended 2 day, ate one day, then 5 day extended fast. By that time I was off medications because blood pressure and glucose got too low. Followed that with 17 days eating whole fruits and above-the-ground vegetables only. I then fasted from 1 to 7 days a week, while eating low carb, high fat whole food diet. I ate zero sugar and zero processed foods during that period. I never went back to eating processed foods, junk foods, sugar, or grains, i eat virtually none. I avoid grains like a poison. I made a list of 23 health issues that were reversed. From April through November 2017 I averaged 3 out of 7 days fasted. My weight and health are maintained by eating on the low carb / keto / carnivore protein-focused diet, with daily intermittent fasting. I still occasionally do extended water-only fasts. I am very consistent in my eating. Never will I eat the Standard American Diet again. If there is no other option, I just won't eat. I have gone as long as 10 days without eating, so missing a meal, is not an issue.
I'm glad I found your videos before it was too late. I'm a 32 year old, male, overweight with bmi of 29, just before obesity. Started out with restricted feeding window over a week ago, manage to keep a regular schedule between 10-11 o'clock to 18-19 o'clock and have cut out anything with massive amounts of sugar and artificial sweeteners, and cut down on carbs. I also do daily morning exercises, 15min on stationary bike for a warmup before doing 10-15 min of core exercises, plus HIIT exercises at least once a week.

Dr. Sten Ekberg I’ve been doing low carb and intermittent fasting and my A1C has gone from 9.4 to 7.0. My insulin use has gone from 40 units to 5 and I’ve lost twenty pounds. My doctor told me last week she wants to take me off of insulin. I would then be med free. I’m 59 and went thru a quad bypass two years ago and felt like my life was over. I haven’t felt this great in decades!!!
I've lost 70 pounds in a year and it took about 6 months for my fasting glucose to get under 100 and it took 9 months to stop metformin. going to have my insulin, glucose and cortisol bloodwork done in September to see what my insulin resistance is. A1c has gone from 7.1 (on max dose of metformin and trajenta) to 5.2 with no meds. Hopefully in September it is under 5. Your videos explain the mechanisms occurring in our bodies very clearly. please keep putting out relevant and important videos for us. We all need nutritional and lifestyle education. Since I started my lifestyle change and my family has seen my improvements members of my family have also committed to the LCHF lifestyle and are also seeing benefits to their health. Not shocking... "Doctors" are getting paid to prescribe... Doesn't matter what the cause or real cure is.. I have a friend my age that will prob die from obesity and diabetes.. he eats total garbage in huge amounts and chugs it all down with diet soda.... he is on meds for all kinds of problems, gout, reflux, etc and his doctor has him convinced that nothing but medicine can help... I have tried to suggest things and he continues his ways... Sad..
The doctor in the clinic is more interested in getting you back.
Thw internet docs are solving it and gaining popularity and reputation.
They also offer you nothing that you can sue.

Same here although I'm only 5 weeks in. So I cannot legitimately say "broken the addiction". However, this is the only 5 weeks in the past 40 years I've had practically 0 sugar.
In 5 weeks I've not eaten more than 100g carb on any day, and I have had precisely 0 sugary foods or used any sugar/sweetener in any drink, and have only had small amounts of pineapple or blueberries as fruit, once daily, about 1/2 cup.
carnivore diet breaks all addictions, even if you only do it 6 months to 1 year

I've been diabetic for 10 years and I was taking 3 different meds a day and my A1C kept going up. I didn't want to go on insulin, so I started search for my own answers. In April I found UA-cam - Dr. Jason Fong and listened to his long discussions in reversing Diabetes and started eating meals with no breads, pastas, or anything with sugar. I subsequently found your channel and find it so much easier to follow. You pack alot of information in a relatively short period of time. In May my A1C was 7.9 and we had to reschedule our Dr. Appt till the end of July at which time I explained to my Dr what I was doing and he did another test and my A1C went down to 6.4. His words were WOW. I am trying the Keto/low carb diet and IF and my weight loss has been slow, but for me it is more about reversing my A1C. You are correct that everyone's experience is different. Thank you for all the understandable information that you have given those of us who are searching for a natural healthy way of healing.

I may have a piece of bread once every few months and I go right back. I must admit that I don't do all the counting, just eliminated sugar all bread and all pasta and sometimes depending on my schedule which is busy, I make keto deserts and meals. Do you use a blood glucose meter to track how food reacts with your system? If you don't you should because you can pin point trends and figure out without a doubt what foods drive IR back up.

Thank you Glenn for sharing that. I'm 57, eat healthy, no grain, no milk since I was 21, skinny, I've worked out every day for years, in certain periods of my life. I only eat what comes out of the ground, no sugar and no salt my entire adult iife. Beer is what gave me IR. It started in 2007, after a divorce, I also went into the single party scene with a lot of social friends drinking every night beer. I've been some horrible events since and deaths in the family, accidents, and left my career to care for sick parents, and just drank beer in my free time. Last year my Sister died, and I realized when my neighbor said I don't even look the same as when he met me 4 years earlier, I realized I wasn't eating, I just forgot to. I started losing strength in my legs. Today is the first day I've gone all day without a beer. My feet swelled and I got some neuropathy and redness, more in my right leg because of an accident. My right foot I smashed in 2016 is my indicator light, and I cracked that ankle in December again on stairs. I've lived on an alkaline diet for years and I am skinny, I don't eat carbs, pasta, chips, nothing in a bag, no candy or anything from a factory or in a freezer. If my electricity goes off, my diet remains the same. I haven't been sick or to a doctor in 10 years, not even for a broken foot, ankle or pulled ligaments in my knee at the gym this summer. I even think I had Covid for two months in December of 2019 coughing up phlegm and came out fine. This year my Mother died of COVID, or better said the jabs after she recovered, and I drank literally all day long this summer until I have trouble walking and now peeing. I'm at my low point, and I'm going to speed up my recovery and stop beer completely. It's the only factor there is for me, and I saturated myself this summer after she died in May and my knee laid me up for two months. I'm glad to hear in 6 months probably I will feel transformed, even if I'm not cured for more years, I can manage that with my normal diet which is alkaline and keto already.

Thiamine gets depleted by alcohol and you can only store 18 days of it in your living. Once you are depleted, you cant convert food into energy very well.

I hope you’re doing better. I cut back completely or substantially on a lot of things that spiked my blood sugar, like ice cream, white potatoes, cereal, and sugary desserts. I had stopped bread at home for years now, and stopped eating white dinner biscuits and other bread items at dinners while dining at other people’s’ homes, but I would have bread on occasion, if eating at a restaurant. I also lost 9 pounds. My A1C went from 6.4 to 6.9 at my last physical, three weeks ago and I couldn’t figure out why. So, I sat down and made a list of things to eliminate completely . All items I still ate on occasion were listed:
Bread at restaurants, including sandwich bread
Restaurant croutons on salads
Tortillas and tortilla chips
Potatoes, including sweet potatoes
Pasta (which I rarely ate)
White rice
Crackers
Cookies (already reduced)
Race Trac or Menche’s Yogurt
The occasional chocolate shake
Occasional McDonalds sundae
Any fried foods
Coffee creamer containing sugar
Even those after-dinner mints at restaurants.
I’m also adding more muscle at the gym, as it helps to reduce blood sugar and A1C levels. I want to lose about 40 more pounds, as well.

I wish you all the will one needs to take the first steps. After that the rest is easy. As you not only see results but feel better and full all the time I was doing 2mad the first 10 days but then I found myself no longer hungry for the second meal in my 6 hot window., And am Omad most days. As Dr sten tells you your body will tell you. My brain fog is gone and my energy is through the roof! Although it's possible my results were a little faster as I was prediabetic and not taking insulin yet. I have no doubt if I continued the standard American diet instead of making these changes, I would be well on my way to drs saying I had to go on insulin. I watch at least one video a day of Dr. Stens in order to keep myself on track, vigilant and hopeful. As well as absorbing the knowledge so this way can be second nature for me. If we were all walking around see through and could see the actions and reaction of foods on ours bodies, it would be so much easier to undo the many years of misdirection and misinformation on this

Since 12th February 2023,I stopped eating
1. Table Sugar
2. Rice ( All types)
3. Bakery Products ( Refined Carbohydrates)
4. Flavored Drinks ( Nescafé, Nestea etc )
5. Soda drinks ( Coca Cola, Sprite, Fanta etc..)
& adapted to a 12 hour Fasting at Night.
Recorded Fasting Blood Glucose Every Morning and graphed with excel & monitored the fluctuations & managed to maintain it two months average of 96.5 mg/dl. Increased intake of Protein (Chicken, Fish, Eggs,Salmon), Olive oil & Green Leafy Veggies (Mainly Cauliflower, Beans, Okra, Brokali & Parsley). During the day I had some milk with added coffee and dark chocolates ( 50% of Cocoa made in Sri Lanka) & occasionally some curd with one or two teaspoons of Honey.
My HBA1c dropped from 9.3 to 5.7 by 12th April 2023 (Within exactly 60 days). Weight loss exactly 8kg. My BMI is exactly 22. I am so happy to bring down My HBA1c to None Diabetic level without any doctor fees, Prescription Drug Fees, Unnecessary Lab Report Fees & without time wasting.
I am planning to drop it to 5 by 12 th May 2023.
Meantime, I got my Lipid Profile, eGFR (Kidney Function Test), Complete Liver Profile, Full Blood Count & Specially the C - Peptide Report that measured the functionality of pancreas & all reports are almost perfect.

My husband and I have been eating the suggested foods and are down to 2 meals a day. We exercise 1 to 2 times a day by walking and bike rides. We
are also intermittent fasting. Husband Kim went from 220 to 192, I went from 198 to 184! The inches not the weight is what is even more amazing. We both sleep better. My husband slowly has stopped his statin and blood pressure meds. We have removed 90% of our sugar and bread intake and my arthritis has improved 90%. I was morbidly obese for years. I finally paid the price. I'm down nearly 80 pounds and am no longer morbidly obese. I still need to lose weight though. My glucose readings are going down. So that is good.

I agree 1000%! I believe mainstream medicine is nutritionally ignorant and made an very ignorant decision in the 1950's to tell us all (and the entire US food industry) to cut fat, eat carbs and protein and hence mainstream medicine has created an epidemic of diabetics in the USA.
If you look at the food pyramid from the Clinton years, it is the same as the one given to farmers to fatten their pigs!
That was the diet advice I had for years. It made me fat and ill and my blocked gall bladder had to be removed. The statins and blood pressure etc drugs all contain lactose and make you fat and insulin resistant with a fatty liver.
My blood sugar was at 12.5. I got serious about losing weight, I was on Lantus and another insulin, and taking Metformin. I went Keto/Low Carb, added some exercise, and now I'm at 6.5 and am not taking any meds. It took two years. Everything you are sharing is very informative and as far as my research is well said. Everyone is not the same, you have to find your own balance.Thank you Dr. Ekburg for sharing your videos.

Hey, I noticed you brought your A1c down to 5.2 in four months. I'm curious, has your body returned to how it used to be? For example, are you able to eat some sweets without any issues, like you did before, without having a severe reaction to carbs or your insulin levels getting out of control?
I've been eating Keto for 3 months and my weight loss had plateaued. I started intermittent fasting and my weight loss has really taken off. I've lost 40 lbs so far (250 to 210). After a 48 hr fast, I lost 6.2 lbs. I was on a walker after having a hip replacement last August, then found out that a lot of my problem was sciatica from degenaterive disc disease. I am completely off blood pressure meds now (was on 2) and I am walking almost normally again. I go to the gym 2 or 3 days a week, and I generally feel better. I feel like I was on a downward spiral to a slow and painful death. Now I am on my way back to being a young man again. I love watching your videos as inspiration to keep going. Thank you so much!

I’ve done things right my whole life, gave birth and raised five healthy babies to adulthood, maintained my weight and and figure, and have never been on medication...the reason is because I’m literally terrified of entering the medical system. Unless you break a bone, medical doctors have NO IDEA what they’re doing. They are scary. Once you get under their care, you NEVER get out. Thank you Dr Ekberg for being my doctor.
Absolutely right Athena, my brother has lung disease and dementia I'm always interjecting with doctors who want to over medicate or do unessesary testing. He's 5 years off cigarettes survied covid. No more x rays with ionizing radiation. I thank god were in Florida much better here.
I've not had a health insurance policy/plan for almost 30 years (I'm 73yo). So I'm forced to take care of my body -- I'm not so good at it, but, fortunately, haven't needed hospital care since 1986. I, too, am extremely leery of American-style medical care. They're great for trauma care, but horrible for lifestyle advice. It's kinda like, MDs know just enough of the health maintenance lingo to be a danger to others. A fulsome understanding of health maintenance is sadly not in their pharma toolshed. They are transactional technocrats. I can't beat them up about it. It's always been that way, going back hundreds of years. As one doctor I know says it, 'Your doctor may be the nicest person on the planet; but he/she still doesn't know how to cure the common cold.'

Wow. I have been watching keto/ iR/ fasting videos for years and this is the most informative video I think I’ve ever seen. The real gem is your explanation that it can take months to right your damaged blood sugar/ insulin so all those people who get upset and quit because after 3 weeks they hit a stall (after losing 5-10lb wAter weight) thinking it doesn’t work , when in reality it’s a huge wake up call that your body is so damaged you need to stick to it until it works. Because one things for sure, quitting never helps .
I had no idea how bad sugar and carbs (in the quantities I was eating) really were. Watching your videos has helped me reverse years of neglect and I'm happy too say I'm a much healthier person now. Keep up the good work doc!
Thank you for going into detail about reversing diabetes! I’m in the stubborn category of being diabetic for 25 years (I’m 60 y/o, hispanic). Based on what your observations are, I started getting insulin resistant probably in my late teens! Yikes! My mom & dad fed us a lot of carbs: jelly donuts, tortillas, tamales, Mexican sweet bread. My A1C is still high and I’m severely addicted to carbs (aka sugar). I’ve been doing keto, on& off, and IF. I’ve got to put forth more effort 😢! I’ve lost 25 lbs and still have 20 lbs to go. My liver is fatty & I’m certain my pancreas is also. Nonetheless, I know what I need to do. No more excuses. This finally explains a lot me. My parents generation didn't start getting heavy till they were in their middle age. Born in the twenties they ate very little processed food. It started in the fifties and sixties when all the junk was introduced. Fortunately our mother fed us mostly whole foods. While working full time!!!
Brought my A1C down from 7.2 to 6 in 3 months and lost 32 lbs by eliminating white everything -sugar, flour, rice, etc and swimming 4-5 times a week for an hour. Also fasting once a week and IF every day. Long way to go but feel so much better. I’m 65 and ready for a healthy “old” age!

Hey, I noticed you brought your A1c down to 6 in three months. I'm curious, has your body returned to how it used to be? For example, are you able to eat some sweets without any issues, like you did before, without having a severe reaction to carbs or your insulin levels getting out of control?

To me Keto is not a diet its' a lifestyle. I've only been on Keto for a few months and I am diabetic and have been since my early 30's and it runs heavily on both sides of my family. Since being on Keto I haven't felt this good since my 20's....I have more energy, my sugar cravings have stopped, my blood sugars are better and I've lost about 8lbs. I know I have extreme insulin resistance and that's why I haven't lost more but I'm not focused on that I'm focused on getting healthy and the rest will come.
Diabetes runs in the family because of diet. We tend to eat what we ate while young, living with our parents.
Be patient and it will get better and better, it took me about 6 months to work keto into my lifestyle without making mistakes here and there. Also to really figure out what to add back into my diet after taking a lot out of it. I am now 2.5 years into it now 72 lbs lost and feel great. Keto cookbooks are helpful to get ideas on changing things up. Good luck to you!

Very accurate information. I am been fighting my stubborn prediabetes for almost 2 years ( prediabetes for 2 decades without knowing. Got blood work done every year but no doctor ever mentioned). I am an active lifestyle practicing sports, tennis, swimming since young age. When getting older I walk 2 hours daily and swimming 30 laps, 5 times a week. I have the history of diabetes from mother and research constantly for a remedy. Since 2021 I started fasting from 18 to OMAD variation, daily, cut completely all refined sugar, restrict carbs as much I can. I can finally bring down blood glucose to the 80 from 118, A1C 5.2 from 5.8. But take only a couple days to jump back to the high over 110 fasted when breaking the rules. It's not a joke. High blood glucose and insulin resistant do take a long time to reverse with a proper nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, discipline and persistency. There is no short cuts or fast remedies.
It took me about 4 months to drop my A1C from 6.0 to 4.6 and to loose about 40 lbs. After a year I am down 55 lbs to about what I weighed in collage (I'm 70 now). I had been insulin resistant for quite some time and I know that I probably will always have a tendency to be that way. I watch what I eat and try to stay Keto as much as I can. Every now and then I will cheat (usually at social events). I have to say that I learned so much from UA-cam doctors. I know a lot more than my everyday physician does. Unfortunately there are no physicians around my area in TN that deal with nutrition as a cure. They are all pill pushers and most of the people are extremely overweight and probably type 2 diabetic . Even some of my friends but I can’t seem to get them to understand or care.
My sister went from insulin to no insulinon Keto diet and I was impressed....so I finally listened to her and now my morning blood sugar is averaging 110 without medication. if I take medication its as low as 70

I couldn't agree more. I'm in the Chattanooga area and diabetes is almost an epidemic around here. It won't be until the health insurance providers include holistic, functional medicine practioners in their networks that it'll change. Until then, the allopathic industry will be on top.

Thank you Dr. Ekberg for all the explanations and information. My A1C just tested 5.2, down from 5.7 last year. I cut back on carbs the middle of December. That was 4 months ago. I feel much better. My joints, circulation and energy are better. I lost about 14 pounds but didn't suffer hunger eating fish, meat, nuts, peanut butter and lots of fresh vegetables. Had berries and some oatmeal.
One time a Dr told me I was too fluffy, but didn't educate me on HOW to lose weight. But with the help of your videos Dr. Ekberg, I have gone from 278 to 248 and I'm still doing IF and LCHP. Thank you for saving my life and educating me!!

I saw a great enlightening explanation of why A1c measures your long term progress and they only test it every four months or so. It’s because it takes your body 3 or 4 months to replace its entire supply of red blood cells. So that finally makes sense.
I agree with everything in this video and have found this to work... coming from someone with type 2 and brought my A1c from a 8.3 down to 5.3 I feel I am able to comment on this from experience... I eat two means a day with 18 hours of fasting and only eat 25 grams of carbs a day... it just works! And NORMAL IS NOT NORMAL! My new normal is NORMAL!

Congrats Brian. I did the same...took a full year to reverse my T2D. I am OMAD now mostly meat, seafood with a few veggies 2x a week. Zero sugar for a year, zzero processed , use only butter and olive oil. Never hungry any longer, tons of energy and feel 30 yrs younger at 63
@Taiwo Omotosho I eat only beef , bacon eggs and occasional salmon. Only eat veggies if we eat out at restaurant...broccoli, brussels sprouts, salad, or green beans as a side tou burger or steak.

Hi. I'm from Greece.I have genetic diabitis,so I got diabitis type 2 almost 27 years ago.I' m on tablets to control diabitis and blood presuse for at least ten years.I'm 67 years old. Thanks to you ,Dr Sten Ekberg and your videos,that i'm waching on youtube,I have stoped taking my medication for diabitis and blood presure,I;m on keto diet,intermitend fasting (OMAD)and fasting for 48 hours ones a week.I was and I am exersizing every day.I'm doing 7-8 km evryday and 10-15 mountain walking every Sunday.My blood sugar is back to normal so my blood presure.Thank you very much for your great help...!!!!

Loved this information! The thought of returning to 75+ carbs a day does not seem realistic for my personal lifestyle. I've done keto for 2 years and went even stricter when I transitioned to carnivore. Depending on my mood, I'll throw in some roasted brussels sprouts or wrap my burger in lettuce. I also have gotten used to eating one meal a day. I feel amazing but still have a long way to go. I'm most proud of my changed relationship with food.

Thank you for sharing that. I am just starting keto (1 month) and check my weight, blood pressure, blood glucose, and ketosis (pee strips.) It is quite exciting AND serves for me as very good incentive to move forward in my journey back to excellent health. I ate pretty much what I wanted for all of my life. Everything you say makes so much sense. I started watching you a few months ago. I no longer buy fruit juice - I used to drink a (small) glass - or more - every day. I eat a fraction of the fruit I used to. I buy rye or other ancient grain breads. No longer afraid of butter and cheese (though I have to resist the urge to eat them in the evening, which I'm inclined to do even if not hungry :0) ). IF 2-3 times a week; I find 18:6 easy and once managed nearly 24h without much difficulty. Coffee now almost always black. Diet Coke replaced by fizzy water with fresh lemon juice. ACV every day. Makes me feel great and the change is permanent. About 4kg down on four months ago. Thanks!
One more amazing video! My A1C was 5.2 so my primary care refused to check my insulin. I decided to pay a private physician to do it, the result was an alarming 39.3. With just keto and IF it went down to 27.7 in 90 days. I refused medication after watching your videos. I have a long way to go and your videos are helping me understand the whole process. Do some 74 hour fasts. That will drop it too. Also what your protein. Look up the "insulin load" of food. You can basically determine how much insulin your body needs to process what you eat. If you try to keep that low, you can lower your insulin levels.
ineedhoez thank you for your advice but since I sent this message I was able to bring my insulin down to 7 😃!!! I was never able to do a fast that long but intermittent fasting surely helped!

It took me 2 years on a very strict keto diet to get rid of my insulin resistance. I was 70 when I started. I eat potatoes sometimes now, or beets on occasion with sardines, balsamic vinegar and olive oil (one of my favorite meals) and the occasional bread stick with cream cheese. But I have to say I feel 200% better than I did 5 years ago.

Your focus will need to be on insulin response. This isn't a "quick fix". Your glucose readings will take several months to really come down, but they will.
1) Keto. This is pretty critical as it cuts the carbs, which basically act like sugar. There are lots of keto channels, including Dr Sten's !
2) Introduce Fasting . I chose Intermittent Fasting, and still do that. Really, it comes down to a)skip breakfast and b)skip the snacks after dinner (popcorn and such). You can do this.
If you don't see results within 3 mos, I'd consider googling "Optimize your thyroid" or similar. You may have a Thyroid issue, that doesn't "tip the scale", but its just not "tuned up" .

For years I’ve been trying to tell the doctors that i feel awful after a carb heavy meal to the point that I feel like I’m going to faint. All they do is looking at my fasting blood sugar. I’m over 30 and finally i feel normal with Keto.
For years and still today I cannot get a handle on my problem. I do not drink any sodas or fruit juices. Do not hardly eat any breads, cakes, cookies, candies. I keep gaining weight and look very pregnant. It is so frustrating! I will not even bother wasting my time seeing a MD. I have anxiety issues, insomnia regularly. I will start taking the 5- HTP again, instead of Melatonin.

For a year now I have been telling my doctors that I feel off. I have something that is imbalanced I feel it. I never in a million years thought about diabetes. I started gaining 5 to 7 lb a week this year I kept saying I need to go see it endocrinologist give me a referral because something is imbalanced no one listened to me. 3 and a half years of keto for me then went low carb. As soon as bad symptoms came back I went back to keto. All went better.
It took mi 3.5 years of persistent “work” on my A1c 5.3 and fasting insulin 2.4...Yes it is reversible, but required a lot of discipline! Once you reach your goals, to stay there, you become smarter, and what doctor Ekberg said, you cannot eat food anymore that you get there in first place! But good news is: you don’t need it, because you are already adapted on new “food style”! I didn’t even do keto, just regular eating with low carbs without sugar with a lot of walking. My philosophy is: Whatever goes up slow or fast, to get back you need almost the same time (ask heavy truckers about speed going up or down hill)! Something else, all these kito diets are OK for people from their 35-45-50, but for us elderly, different approach is needed.Thank you doctor Ekberg for your nice explanation about things as you did in your previous videos. Great from you is: You don’t pounding people to do this or that, you just explaining difference between good and right or bad and wrong...

I brought my A1C down from 6.3 to 5.8. First I lost about 14 pounds. Then I started weight training & built muscle. I added things to my diet that are supposed to help insulin resistance like chia seed, cinnamon & creatine(I take 5 mg every day). I also started eating a lot of pickled food for lunch. So far, so good.
I lost 40 lb in 3 months base on your video ,no sugar no carbs no alcohol no fruits and only olive oils , no fried food and i just walked 30 min a day. Thanks to you?🙏

It took me over two years to go from 300 lbs to 210 lbs and then I tried the fasting from 6 PM until 12 PM the next day with eating a few radishes or a stalk of celery for breakfast. I started to get glucose readings in the 80's and even a couple of times in the 70's.

with a inflamatory arthritis it took me one year of potato soup only to made it possible to eat other food without swollen joints and pain - next five year potatosoup with garlic was daily -20 years later i dont need to eat it at all
I saw my doc yesterday and told him I wanted the HOMA-IR test. He didn’t know what it was, looked it up and said, “yes, ok that makes sense”! In 9 weeks I’ve lost 35 pounds, and every level has come down. My A1C was 5.8 yesterday, it was 6.4, so things are headed in the right direction. Hubby is on this journey with me, with similar results. I told him, that this is our new way of life, and that we will always have to do some fasting, and simple eat less, while avoiding sugar and carbs like the plague. At least we’re in it together! Lucky there.

Very true, should be an educational video prescribed for all pre and diabetic patients and utilized in health classes at early ages along with pics and testimonies of victims.
My A1C went from 9.8% to 5.1% on the last check. It's taken me about 1.5 years to get my "A1C" & blood sugar levels into the "normal" range. Still on my meds, which I'd like to reduce and eventually get off of if possible. I did it by dropping the sugar, refined carbohydrates, and dairy out of my diet.
Did you have high blood pressure and any kidney problems when your A1C were high?
With a 5.1 A1C, I think you can phase out the meds. Check with your doctor.

This was an excellent explanation! I am a health care provider and since we are doing more advanced metabolic testing we are finding severe insulin resistance BEFORE diabetes. I will recommend this video for my patients to watch.
Thanks for such a great video! I was pre-diabetes with my fasting glucose at 6.2. I tried for months to lower it with no avail, but then decided to go low carb and no alcohol for 6 weeks and my fasting glucose it now 4.7. Not to mention I have lost 11 pounds, 6 of those in the last month!
Your fasting glucose is different than a1c, blood glucose is never stated with a decimal point. So that means your A1c is 6.2, and that is bad. Your fasting glucoces will be measured as a whole number like 90, 100, 125 etc, never ever as a number in single digits and a decimal point.
@@TheRoadhammer379 There are two different ways of measuring blood glucose levels: It can either be in terms of a molar concentration, measured in mmol/L or a mass concentration, measured in mg/dL. Most blood glucose meters are prefixed to measure in one or the other. mmol/L in mg/dL, conversion factor: 1 mmol/L = 18,018 mg/dL

I love the way you think and talk, thanks. I'm insulin resistant, I'm doing low carb and keto, and intermiting fasting for about a year, I'm very happy with the results. I lost 25 lbs and my glucose is getting better and better in the morning. Fasting is critical for me, it saves my live. It is not something that happened over night.. I remember when I was around 11 years old I was a little over weight, and I decided not to eat breakfast and I went back to my normal weight in a few months. Thanks
Your advice is working for me, I was 114.5 kg I am now 106 working my way to goal of 100kg. My BMI suggests I should be 90kg but working towards first goal atm. Low carb and intermittent fasting is my approach and can be hard to start with,but being more conscious of the food I'm eating I'm now making better choices. After watching this vid taking on board how the insulin system works, I went onto a keto plain food only diet and increased my daily exercise slightly. It took 3 weeks to fine tune. This brought my fasting levels down from 7.3 to consistently 6.3. Then I added 500mg of Berberine per day. Now at the end of week 4, blood glucose levels are sitting at 5.9 after 10 hr fasting, and 5.7-9 2 hours after a meal. This guy is on the money, remove the sugar and lower your crap carb intake.

It’s all gone rather well. Some minor changes like dropping Berbarine after a month. Balsamic vinegar rather than apple cider.
Just did 6mth blood test. Fasting down to 4.6, A1C at 4.3. Potassium at 4.6. Cholesterol is excellent with a little low on HDL. I’ll up the virgin olive oil from a 30ml shot to 50ml shot.
I watched other UA-camrs to get the general diet I could live with. Intermittent fasting was basically 2 meals starting around 1pm and second at 7:30-8:30pm. I still have 2 cups of coffee with milk in the morning (bonus!)
I tried introducing carbs like standard white bread (bacon sandwich white bread) or half a cooked potato (hot) once a day for 2 weeks Digestive system was not happy. Very cleansing, regularly remained the same.

I've been diagnosed 2 months ago with T2D with 10.7 a1c and a fasting bg of 300mg/dl (~17mmol/L) and now I'm trying to maintain a fasting bg of 75-85 mg/dl (~4.2-4.7) but I'm having a hard time doing that.. I'm off meds and I'm on keto and OMAD diet and my blood glucose goes down very slowly and it takes up to 14 hours to start going down after a meal.. I hope that would change if I continued on what I'm doing
Also, I'm not sure if I'll be able to maintain a good fasting bg level if I ate two meals a day. Haven't tried

I used MyFitnessPal to work out roughly what I needed to eat, I then took the data from my glucose meter and graphed it. That way you know your reaction. Potassium levels seem to be relavent. After 3 months I dropped the my fitness plan as you sort of start to know what to eat. I too had issues with breakfast. I solved it by eating an avocado and a small bit of cheese and maybe 20ml of olive oil. About half an hour later, not hungry. Weight drops off pretty quick, so you need to watch calorie intake. Too much to soon is not good.
Basically it’s retrained your system, it takes time, but you are getting a result. Which is way better than the alternative of diabetes or insulin resistance. Very nasty business. I have dead friends who had no feet.
Dr. Ekberg, I have to say this is one of the best videos I have seen on treating insulin resistance, and I have watched many. You are one of the only people that talk about maintenance. Everyone needs to watch this video. I learned some new things as well. Keep the videos coming.
I have just discovered your videos and can't thank you enough. I am 62yrs old, diabetic and I have started intermittent fasting and your advice is helping me understand the science behind it. My question is, how much fat should I be eating a day for it to be enough to replace carbs? I am not a great fan of fatty meats, but love cheese, fresh cream and nuts.
I'm picky I am not a fan of fatty meats either SO... I DO eat alot of ground meat and / or lean steaks or rump roasts AND then slather it with butter. Lots of eggs. And some cheese when i want some. I for one, do not over think, at all, the protein to fat ratio, which there's ALOT of discussion around this out there however it stressed me out so, I trust my body. Sometimes salmon or other fish with ALOT of delish butter and lemon or lime juice.. delish. Basically, almost 100% carnivore diet however I suppose not due to i do use spices i.e. Italian seasoning or garlic or onion powder ... and or avacadoes or a simple salad if I want once in a while. Oh and i love my black coffee... but, Keep it simple. Your life and health will turn around for the better. Fast. Break it down, keep it simple. Only suggestions ... oh ENJOY your crispy bacon ... don't forget LOTS of eggs. Enjoy.

Thank you for this video. It has answered so many questions I have about reversing my insuline resistance and getting my diabetes under control. I was diagnosed twenty years ago after years of thrush and ITUs. I had gestational diabetes too which seemed to disappear after delivery. I have managed to keep "goodish" control for a long time taking I gram of Metformin and using low carb diets when numbers began to shift. Now I am 75 and my diabetes nurse wants to give me another oral drug. Recently I had to have a CT scan and stopped my Metformin for 48 hours before and after. My blood glucose went way out of wack and I deperately want my next AIc to be good so I an embracing 16:8 intermittent fasting. After 3 weeks I am getting used to it and my glucose fasting readings are beginning to respond. I hope they will be good enough by June for me to be able to argue for trying to keep myself healthy through lifestyle changes. Better late than never! The good news was that my CT scan showed that my fatty liver has markedly improved as I have gradually lost weight over the past 3 years. Carol UK

Thank you so much Dr Ekberg. This is possibly the best video I have watched on this subject and I've watched a lot. I'm 61 and started taking my type 2 diabetes seriously using a combination of diet and medication (Januvia 100mg a day) and in 2 months my blood sugar levels dropped from 13.2 to 7.2 which is incredible. I have an A1c check in 4 months time. I am intolerant to Metformin, the side effects are awful. You also get a feelgood factor from your achievements. Unfortunately exercise is difficult for me due to arthritis. Keep on rockin' in Atlanta !

I’ve been struggling with my weight for years and it took a physician specializing in orthopedics to educate me on this. My regular doctors pacified me and all but gave up hope for me. Life changing information this is. Thank you for explaining it so well, I finally have a mental grasp on this.

Something that I wish people would talk about more is anti-psychotic-induced insulin resistance. This was something I wound up with and almost nobody acknowledges it except for the side-effects on the bottle. It took me ten years to find a doctor who was even willing to acknowledge it as a medical problem for me. Everyone else assumed I was eating too much.

I've been losing weight on my waist, so that has me optimistic! Dr. never has said I'm pre-diabetic. been pretty low sugar, high vegie all my life. Now I'm doing IF, maybe too many vegies to be strict keto, but having good results. 5'10'', 152 lbs. 66 yrs old, going on 35!

Yes, have to stay vigilant about your resistance. Takes YEARS to heal. “No longer diabetic” doesn’t matter. Keep on ketoing! And IFing!
When I was diagnosed as diabetic I was told that it was impossible to reverse the disease and, in fact, it would always get worse. This type of medical information keeps diabetic patients in a "victim" status. It wasn't until I found some videos by Jason Fung, Eric Berg and others that I realized that there is hope and that a plan can be followed to reduce and/or reverse diabetes. I'm not quite off of insulin yet but I'm close (had a lot of stumbles along the way).
In April 2017 I was obese, Type 2 Diabetic, with high blood pressure and high triglycerides. By the end of September, 2017 I was at normal weight, reversed the Diabetes and lowered to normal blood pressure and triglycerides. All blood markers were normal, except liver markers were low. The liver markers took a couple years to normalize.
Within two weeks of starting my journey I was off the Metformin and blood pressure medications. I started with extended 2 day, ate one day, then 5 day extended fast. By that time I was off medications because blood pressure and glucose got too low. Followed that with 17 days eating whole fruits and above-the-ground vegetables only. I then fasted from 1 to 7 days a week, while eating low carb, high fat whole food diet. I ate zero sugar and zero processed foods during that period.
I never went back to eating processed foods, junk foods, sugar, or grains, i eat virtually none. I avoid grains like a poison.
I made a list of 23 health issues that were reversed.
From April through November 2017 I averaged 3 out of 7 days fasted.
My weight and health are maintained by eating on the low carb / keto / carnivore protein-focused diet, with daily intermittent fasting. I still occasionally do extended water-only fasts.
I am very consistent in my eating. Never will I eat the Standard American Diet again. If there is no other option, I just won't eat. I have gone as long as 10 days without eating, so missing a meal, is not an issue.

I'm glad I found your videos before it was too late. I'm a 32 year old, male, overweight with bmi of 29, just before obesity. Started out with restricted feeding window over a week ago, manage to keep a regular schedule between 10-11 o'clock to 18-19 o'clock and have cut out anything with massive amounts of sugar and artificial sweeteners, and cut down on carbs. I also do daily morning exercises, 15min on stationary bike for a warmup before doing 10-15 min of core exercises, plus HIIT exercises at least once a week.
