When Robert Plant's first reaction to hearing your song on the radio is, "Wait, how stoned *was* I? I don't remember recording that." You know you've hit on something special.
Plant is notoriously protective of LedZep's sound, and he's complimented GVF in a couple of different interviews: "Kid's got a nice voice. Wonder who he stole it from?"😎
He said kids a beautiful little singer.
He also replied to the question ‘who do you rate?’, Plant said ‘well there’s a band out of Michigan called Greta Van Fleet.’
Right. He also said, "They are Led Zeppelin I."
They wrote this song when they were like fourteen years old and a few years later they recorded it for an EP and it was released as a single that topped the Rock 'n' Roll charts. They won a Grammy for that EP as well.
exactly... teenagers wrote this..and this is their most sounding led zeppelin song. people need to stop bashing them. they have already evolved.
and they still suck
@@redzwestisbest Too bad they were better in their early teens than now. The EP was great, their last stuff .. mmm .. not so much. Evolution isn't always for the better.
@@MrOjeeeee lol they were better? Give me a break. Have you seen their live shows when they were teens? they are so much better now in every single facet.
I totally agree with you. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and music taste are subjective but saying they haven’t evolved or got worse is almost laughable. They are very talented. I don’t know if the singer can get any better. He’s already next level. The guitar player has evolved and is awesome. The drummer has improved and is great. The bass player is pretty special. I haven’t heard a song by them that I don’t like. I still think they have that zeppelin sound sometimes Rush like. There are a few times when I hear Jake play and I hear an Ace Frehley or Alex Lifeson influence. I like that old school sound. It’s been gone too long. These guys are polished. I hope they keep going.
Their live performance of "Edge of Darkness" is absolutely magical & i can't recommend all of u to go watch it enough!
Which one?? I found like 5 different performances. Post the link of the one you're recommending.
@@Cosmo-Kramer SIR YES SIR
ua-cam.com/video/U3-hRlnL6jQ/v-deo.html
These are pretty talented young guys, been following their career for a couple of years now, they look good live too.
Great band. Lots of hits on the first album… lover leaver, safari song, edge of darkness, black smoke rising, when the curtain falls.
Yes to all of the above!!!
Just saw them live last week! They opened for METALLICA! I’ll remember that night for the rest of my life, amazing concert. Greta Van Fleet (my favorite new era band) and Metallica (my favorite band of all time) in one night 🤤
Jackpot!
ATL ? me too brother!
ooohh i was there
Yes finally you guys got to them. So close to Led Zeppelin in this generation. These guys are really great.
yes i wasn't watching at first just listening and thought it was Robert Plant singing.
They feel like a tribute band to me. Kudos to them for breaking through but I think it was the novelty. it’s incredibly hard to stand in the shadow of LedZepp.
@@MalevolentProphecies indeed.
@@MalevolentProphecies In an interview they pretend they aren’t familiar with Led Zeppelin. Singer said he gets his inspiration from Aerosmith 😂.
@@MalevolentProphecies When they started they for sure seemed like that but now they are 100% their own thing and I absolutely love it
Great band of young talented musicians currently opening for mettalica on lot of shows
How could you misspell Metallica? 😂
@@jermeyanderson9231 while wearing a Metallica hoodie 😅😅😅 bloody Autocorrect
@@matinmirnaghibi5846 :) will be seeing both of them too next year!
@@tieman3790 hopefully same 🤘
The Black Keys are another “modern” rock band you’d like, try Tighten Up or Lomely Boy. Nathaniel Rateliffe is another great artist, song Get Me a Drink.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Nathaniel Rateliffe! Dang now you gave me something else to spam in the live stream chats besides Die Antwoord LOL
Black keys for sure 🔥❤️ saw them live at the chase center last year.
Black keys over this garbage any day
Don't forget about Weight of love. That's their best song personally for me.
I agree with the black keys but come on now lets get start with the old stuff. Thinkfreakness, heavy soul, just couldn't tie me down
These guys can go in any direction they want just think about how young they are and how old Led Zeppelin is there's so much room for expansion at their age they can go in any direction they want and hopefully they'll drag us along for this magical journey
Never heard them before, but I like it. Definitely hear Robert Plant's influence in the vocals.
If you ask them it's like they never heard of Led Zeppelin. They list all kinds of bands as influences but never Zepp, it's almost as if... ah nvm XD
@@ofcatarina Exactly, that’s the only reason I couldn’t vibe with them. The guy sounds like Robert plant and has the look of Bob Dylan.
No Influence WHATSOEVER complete coincidence they didn't know it at all
Plant called this album Led Zeppelin 3 though, he loved it
@@Leftylobber yea it's pretty wild. XD
Check out a Mongolian band called "The Hu" Heavy Metal with throat singing. Awesome to listen to
Love The Hu! Never knew I could think throat singing was so dang cool, but it truly is. Heilung is also another interesting group with some of their songs having a type of throat singing.
I see you guys are checking out the 21st century Zeppelin lol. I mean honestly, they're criticized for sounding exactly like Zeppelin but my hats off to them because that's not an easy feat. Their song Lover, Leaver, Taker, Believer (make sure it's the full version) is a good track if you want to check out more.
these kids were raised listening to the same stuff LED did. They arent copying LED, they are doing their version of the blues and artist thye love.
Led Zeppelin fans: "I wish they hadn't broken up and had given us more music!"
Also Led Zeppelin fans: "this band's music sounds too much like LZ!"
I'm a total Zeppelin fan...who else better to sound like than Zeppelin! I like GVF!
Naw, I am long time Zeppelin fan and love these kids. To be able to sound like that at such a young age...they have a long career ahead of them with a ton of potential to grow.
I agree. I love Led Zeppelin and I realize similar music influenced both groups, but I don’t believe they’re “imitating” LZ. I was so happy to be introduced to them. And who introduced me to them, Robert Plant in an interview.
I f love Zeppelin and these guys are so f good - it's only been a day of listening to GVF and I love them too. Love all the Zeppelin influences I hear in their songs. 😊
Once again Lex is spot on with her comments, amazing how acurate you are so often. Saw them last year, really talented and tigh performers
Loved how Lex instantly noticed the similarity in sound to Led Zeppelin
Oh, you should do " Black Smoke Rising ". Great tune.
Agreed
I been a fan a few years now, I'm old school and we have not had new LZ songs in 40 years, so yeah I want that sound with new tunes myself
Saw them open for the Foo Fighters in 2018. They did a great job live! Love the guitar and his voice is amazing and as powerful as the video.
Y'all's reactions and comments are always spot on
LEX (1.5 seconds in): "sounds like Led Zeppelin". I love it.
Try another modern-day 'older' sounding band, RIVAL SONS. Different league for me, especially the vocals
Yes!!! “Where I’ve Been” is such a fantastic song
Don't forget Monster Truck or Dirty Honey.
Rival Sons, Dirty Honey, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown for rock. Blackberry Smoke, Whiskey Myers, and Steel Woods for southern rock/country
Another band is Black Country Communion. Jason Bonham and Joe Bonamassa. REALLY good “old” rock sound
I'm a huge Zeppelin fan and I LOVE these guys! They're a little retro like the Stray Cats were back in the day, but they've got their own stamp and I love it! They're taking "the sound" to another level!
Being an Led Zeppelin fan they sound amazing, you should react to "Edge of the darkness" one of their best songs.
God bless this kids... multiply please...
They’re opening for Metallica in Vegas. I’m taking my daughter to see that concert. It’s all she talks about now, lol!!
I have both of their CDs. They're awesome.👍
They have 3
When you eventually discover AlterBridge, the most criminally underrated modern rock band ever, do Blackbird. It’s literally a masterpiece, that’s no overstatement. You will both connect to the song, it’s powerful musically & lyrically. Love seeing you discover new bands and new music, keep it up.
Yes, have to some Alter Bridge please! You will not regret it!
YES YES YES
Amen!
Ive seen both AlterBridge and Greta,..... Have to go with AlterBridge, Catalogue is Amazing
Ok, well you just made my day with that recommendation. Dam they are incredible! Thank you, it’s so awesome having new, phenomenal music to put on my playlist and explore💜🎶💜
Yup. 3 brothers from Frankenmuth, MI. They had to stop by Gretna Van fleet's house to drop off firewood before band practice. Hence the name.
Got to see the boys in Detroit and they rocked the house.Michigan boys
I definitely need to check these guys out. I'd only heard of the band. Who knew sounding like the 70's could sound so fresh and new today?
Guitarist & singer are identical twins - younger brother on bass with childhood friend on drums!!!! They are so awesome! Please more Greta Van Fleet!!!!!!!!
This was my kids first concert. Great in concert!!!
I could not be more impressed by Lex’s observations regarding the song’s structure. Wow.
The same record label signed one of my fave bands!!!!! They are The Warning!!!!!! They are amazing!!!!
The singer was asked where he got his sound/ inspiration from and he said “Aerosmith” lol. In an interview they asked Robert plant about it and he laughed and said he knew who he borrowed the sound from. Lol 😂 I just thought it was funny he couldn’t admit he was a fan of Led Zeppelin.
My Nephew turned me on these guys! Such a LZ vibe. As I discovered in this rabbit whole , people either Love Love Love them or they don’t. Truly talented young chaps!! They truly brought “Rock & Roll” back in a time of heavily over produced sounds and cookie cutter sounds and bands!! They’re carrying the torch onward!! ✌🏼
Lex, you are so astute in your initial surmise! Love it!
Oh yeah! These young guys are awesome. Very talented!
Very humble boys from MI, yes, Josh nails RP without covering, but so what? The kid can sing and they can write. Great seeing these boys love old rock which has been destroyed in recent years.
9 months ago when I first found you guys, I never would have imagined you guys breaking down GVF and understanding the relationships to classic rock. Y'all are fun to watch discover all these bands I've listened to for 30 years.
I first heard them while I was watching a Robert Plant interview, and he said he really liked them. When the band said their biggest influence was Aerosmith, Robert Plant rolled his eyes. He's like, Yeah, whatever. My wife and I went to their show in Seattle 2017-2018. They were good live.
My husband and I saw these guys in concert...they put on a great show. They are definitely talented performers.
Their newest Album is a piece or art!!!!
I just got tickets to their 2022 tour, I cant wait. love these guys. bringing back some great old school 70s rock
I'm a big Zeppelin fan but I love Gretta Van Fleet!
Rolling stone mag said they saved rock n roll i have to agree. Not many new rock bands, They have progressed since this video they have i think 5 albums out i have 2. They have a massive following world wide. I love there story also. There from Frankenmuth, Michigan a the town thats know as Christmas Wonderland year round. Three of them are brothers. The lead singer and guitar player are twins. the bass player is there younger brother the drummer is a life long friend. I seen a story that the singer had to cancel his prom date because he had to go on world tour.. Thought that was cool. I had sorta the samething when i was a teenager had to quit school too go on tour in 1979..
The singer and lead guitarist are twins, the bassist is there younger brother. The drummer is a lifelong friend that they have known since they were 5.
Check out " Edge of Darkness " live from the Rebel Nightclub in Canada.
And yes, Robert Plant has good things to say about Greta Van Fleet.
The oldest are around 22 or 23.
They rock!!!
Best Led Zeppelin tribute band I ever heard
This was from 2017, their first single release on the radio. They have since won a Grammy for Best Rock Album for the second double EP. They have also released their first full length album last year and just started a tour for that won. Check out some songs from their Grammy "Lover Leaver Taker Believer", "Watching Over", " Edge of Darkness", "Safari Song", "Flower Power", etc. See them live at Red Rocks and you will see that they do extend the songs live. On the new album check out "Broken Bells - candlelight version live", "Weight of Dreams", "Built by Nations", "Age of Machine", "Tears of Rain -candlelight version live", "Caravel", "Barbarians" etc... You will see what great musicians they are and how they have progressed from this first song on the radio. They are 3 brothers and a best friend, Josh Kiszka is lead vocals and Jake Kiszka is Lead Guitar & back up vocals (these two are twins and 25 now), Sammy is bass guitar (age 22 now) and keys, Danny Wagner is the drummer (age 22 now).
When the curtains fall so good … yk what just any song is good from them
Great Review of this band. I agree. They could be the future of rock.
This was their first release, and yes, they were still in high school at the beginning. They definitely were borrowing a LOT from Zeppelin at the start. Their sound has branched out a lot more into their own creation now... but they still are the closest thing we have to the 70's today. Robert Plant even said he's keeping an eye on them for the future.
Yeah they don't sound anything like this anymore and while this track is very good. Their new music is much more them in a very good way, yeah they'll always have LZ comparisons and even sound like them but that's also just have he sings. I mean who wouldn't want to be compared to an all time great? Its just good they're getting into their own sound and improving as artists
Just a fun fact. Josh Kiszka(vocals) and Jake Kiszka (Guitar) are twins and their little brother is Sam on bass and keyboards. Long time friend Danny Wagner is on drums.
This band originally came from Frankenmuth in the thumb. about 20 miles from my home. they're very good.
They were 22. Robert Plant loves them, and was quite funny speaking about the lead singer's voice sounding "familiar".
Did mention Aerosmith as an influence. Best band in the rock space now, and are respected by young and older listeners.
Lex, you are spot on with how I felt the first time I heard rhem.
These guys are really talented and have got some beautiful songs and they are so young
I saw them at the War Memorial in San Francisco in 2019. Fun show. Named the band after an elderly woman in their home town who is a music teacher, maybe the drums? Was a good show.
When Robert plant says this is his favorite new band currently active and touring we all must take notice. They have great songs and a similar style to Led Zeppelin and obviously singer is like plant but he’s doing his thing not copying hence the respect from plant.
Lol they claim to not even know too much of Led Zeppelin. Robert plant was interviewed about it and laughed when the singer said he was inspired heavily by Aerosmith. Robert commented I know who he borrowed his voice from.
I saw them in L.A. They are excellent live.
Now your getting into some jam!.
They have a lot of hits !. Great modern day band!
They sound so much like Zep that even Robert Plant gave them props. Three brother, two of whom are twins, and a high school friend, all from Michigan.
the guitarist and singer are twins and the bass player is the younger brother from Frankenmuth, Michigan
I swore this was Robert Plant when I first heard this. I was very impressed. They can Rock!
The guitar riff in this song is reminiscent of The Black Keys which has several awesome guitar-driven blue rocks songs to react to. Highly recommended.
Their new album is absolutely beautiful and their own sound completely. Check out 'Heat Above.' or for a live one "Age of Man -live at red rocks" its stunning.
These guys are awesome. Saw them 2 years ago and it was one of the best shows I ever saw. Have been following them since they put out their ep. Not one of their songs fails to disappoint. Already have my tickets to see them in March. Can't wait.
Greta Van Fleet are:
Josh Kiszka - Lead Vocals
Jake Kiszka - Lead guitars & Backing vocals (Josh and Jake are identical twins!)
Sam Kiszka - Bass guitar & keyboards - (Sam is Josh and Jake's younger brother!)
Danny Wagner - Drums (Danny and Sam graduated High school together and Danny has been long time friends with the Kiszka brothers)!
This is one heck of a jam!
The guitarist and lead singer are twins, while the bass player is their younger brother. The drummer is not related, and is the second drummer they've had. They are from Frankenmuth, Michigan which is a "Bavarian" styled town known for having the World's Largest Christmas Store called Bronner's. Thanx for sharing! ~Be Blessed
Singer and guitarist are the twins. Younger brother is on bass.
"Switchin' up sounds a thousand times?!" I love that!
I saw them a couple years before they started getting big.. They did a local music festival in Freeland Michigan. I do go down to their home town in Frankenmuth quite a bit and hang out.
I am so glad that you checked out these guys. These guys are so young and were super young when this song came out. The 3 brothers talk about growing up listening to tons of music. They listened to Big Bands, Jazz, Blues, folk and Rock. They have multiple influences. At this age they had so much talent and they were writing music. So many people didn't want to give props to their talent. They just want to talk comparison. Now that it has been a few years, they are coming into their own. This song and Safari Song get most compared to Led Zeppelin , but are they a bad influence? They talk about John Denver, Cream, Queen, ZZTOP, and so many others. The talent still belongs to them. I'm so glad you two recognize that they are their own band. This makes me so happy. This is a good 1st song. Lex you can really see how they evolve with other songs. A quick one will be Built by Nations (live candlelight session) And to check out the range of his voice check out Broken Bells (live), Lover Leaver Taker Believer, Flower Power live @Red Rocks Black Smoke Rising(my favorites live @Red Rocks), Carivel, Heat Above, Age of Man and Age of Machine. I hope you give them another listen. To be in their early 20's, writing their own music, and to be so talented is unbelievable. This song is great, but they have soooo many great ones. Plus you can see Jake show his amazing guitar skills and hear some wah pedal (just sayin). And Josh the singer loves theater. That's what he thought he would be doing. Yep, definitely the future. So glad they are keeping Rock alive.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for getting to these guys.
you two really need to listen to some more songs of those guys! especially with their newest album, they've really showed how versatile and sophisticated they can be, it's amazing. (first record got a lot of bangers as well tho haha)
Saw this band live and being 17 years old and growing up on rock and metal it has made me so happy to hear a band as amazing as this!
Lex is a natural when it comes to Rock vibes.
Their current album is crazy good!
You were spot on, on the Led Zep. Lead singer is a huge Led fan.
New great music does exist! They have quite a few bangers. Fun band.
Love Greta Van Fleet. Saw them in New Orleans a couple of years ago. Love their sound of that older school rock that I grew up with!
LOVE Greta Van Fleet. They ARE the moment.
Great band! Check out "Heat Above" off their new album.
I think the mars volta brought back this style 1St back in 2000s.
Three brothers and their friend on drums , youngest ( singer ) missed his graduation cause of touring. Band named after their music teacher.
Love love love Greta! It’s so great to have young bands bringing in the rock and roll!
"Oh, it's like Immigrant Song, Led Zeppelin." She said that after hearing it for 2 seconds :D
Bruh.
Just saw them and Metallica. They were both absolutely awesome!
A great band. I think they are even better live.
If I'm not mistaken the lead singer was 17 in this video. The lead guitarist and base player are brothers and the drummer is a friend. This is their first video.
they clearly got more progressive. Listen to their newer stuff like 'Heat Above'
"Highway Tune" hit the airwaves in 2017; barely 4 years old. Your comment about "modern rock touching the old (classic) stuff" is SO spot on; excactly this band's appeal. The Led Zep comparison (especially the vocals) is the first thing that catches you, but their entire vibe, and all the songs/albums that have come out since then, continue in that vein. After years of overuse of sampling, auto tune and electronic instruments, this band came on like a breath of fresh air.
GVT were on Jimmy Kimmel a few months ago and sang Heat Above off their new album. Great song!
Greta Van fleet is the best band out right now as far as new bands go hands down! You need to listen to more of them you'll love them. When the curtain falls should be next
Also, When the Curtain Falls live on Jimmy Fallon Tonight Show.
I'm a fan of these kids. They're a throwback to that Classic Rock of the 1970's. Check out Heat Above.
Ill be hunting for adds to my playlist
There is a band called Rival Sons that have that old school sound also.
I'd love to see you do a reaction to their songs Pressure and Time or Keep on Swinging.
Great band.
Rock On!
Rivals sons is opening for Greta on the next tour.....that's a hell of a combo.
@@thehighcouncil662 Thanks for the info.
Just looked and I hope they add dates to the tour and come to the Boston area.
Great double bill.
Now that you guys have made it into the new generation of rock artists, you need to check out a band called The Warning. They’re actually signed to the same record label as Greta Van Fleet and are helping to carry the rock torch for the new generation. The Warning are 3 sisters from Monterrey, Mexico who play hard rock. They started out as VERY young girls (14, 12, 9) when their cover of Enter Sandman went viral. They’ve since been invited to reimagine the song (along with Alessia Cara) on the new Metallica Black List album. It’s actually the first song on the album. They have a new EP called MAYDAY, and anything off of it is OUTSTANDING. Check out The Warning. You won’t regret it.
