Exactly what you guys discussed. We attended our first “Toy Con” in 2022 and it was amazing! We had only ever done Star Wars Celebrations, which are great, but they aren’t toy cons. The room and lobby sales blew my mind. I did t know those were things.
I think it's great how successful the show has been. I think it's a combination of the genuine love you guys have for the toys we all grew up with, how you treat your sellers and buyers, the information we get on the toys and the personality's of the customers and staff. I also think the production value of the show has a massive part in the success as well, it's like watching something on History or A&E but totally genuine and unscripted.
Man, I came on to finally say something about that, 'cause it's perpetually been on my mind since episode 1...but it's one of those _'dare not mention the obvious'_ things lol. Never heard such epic nose whistling in a podcast before. I'm an unfortunate mouth breather; so it reminds me of how I have to hold my breath while recording a video, or ppl will ask, _'are you playing with yourself?'_ 🤣
great discussion! Ideas for future topics: 1) Common Scams or stories related to toy scammers 2) Best toy purchase/resale stories, worst toy purchase/resale stories 3) Predictions on what's gonna be hot next, what might die down a bit.
8:57 Sumed up *_perfectly_* with the vibe at Retro Toy Con. As someone who *really* doesn't like big crowds and hordes of strangers...I had a full-on immersively positive experience. Had multiple great long conversations with ppl I didn't know...even met someone, and went to a panel together. Friendships can genuinely be created at your shows. ⚡Magic's in the air⚡
It was so much Fun watching this podcast about the show we did last year. It was our first one. We drove from Missouri and did the room swap and killed it!
One of the conventions that I regularly visit every summer actually had the lobby swap banned. The hotel didn't want to deal with it, and get in the way of their regular guests, even though I think like yours 98% of the guests are there for the convention
Hands down my favorite Con every year. Been going since it started, and I absolutely love the after show toy swap. Usually make whatever I spent at the show back there.
Seriously my new favorite podcast episodes that I look forward to! My question I’d like to hear you guys talk about is; What happens when a grail piece comes into the store that more than one of you wants for your personal collection? Who gets the piece?
When I started going to Rob's big convention shows, I quickly realized they felt so impersonal and overwhelming...and my buddy would tell me he'd always end up buying from _"The Toy Man"_ anyways lol. Went to my first Retro Toy Con last year, and my god, was it *profoundly* better! It took me back to the days in the '90s where I'd go to comic book shows in hotels...except that Embassy Suites is super affordable top of the line luxury, with a beautiful ambience! Loved _every_ aspect about it; plus my kids actually went to this one, with the pool and dinner with the celebrities.
Best most focused episode yet. Buddy on the left needs to stop whistle breathing into the mic. Also some introductions would be nice, I don't know the other guys names.
Thank you, toy federation, for keeping" pops" at a minimum in your store. It's a fad that some people haven't realized is going the way of beanie babies.
I use to be part of the podcast hosted by TFW2005 so we got the chance to interview a bunch of voice actors at Botcon and TFcon. Every voice actor I ever meet has been very cool and generous with there time.
I was just thinking while listening... I'd like to hear you guys talk about the struggles of wanting to keep something for personal collecting vs wanting to sell it for obvious business profitability.
I run Retrofest in Fort Worth, and im the same way, i keep it small, people have been asking for a bigger place, but i tell them it wouldnt be the same show anymore.
During the podcast you mention a couple of times that the toy con is Nov 17-19, 2024. But on the website it has it listed as Nov 22-24. Since the 22-24 is the weekend, I’ll assume those are the correct dates?
Thanks for making this content. We need things like this to keep the toy collecting hobby alive and to spread to the next gen. Were you guys ever in San Jose?
I would say openness to all collector levels for beginners to experience. Sometimes you feel that the ones who done it for years would look down upon the inexperienced and also just variety of different stuff and not what is hot at the current moment
I'm with you too many times I've gone to big comic cons and only found a few vendors I bought from but if I go to a local vintage toy show I usually spend more money and find more stuff then a big comic con
In Australia, a good con is one that happens. Hahahaha! Honestly, it’s good vendors, enough space for patrons to walk through and vendors who regularly update their stock. Nothing is worse than going to a con and two to three shows in a row there isn’t anything to buy or at least nothing new to be seen. I appreciate that some people have no budget and spend a fortune with no concern, for those of us who do have a budget, vendors need enough low-mid priced items to sell to those of us who keep an eye on our spending
Can you talk about the stupidest thing a customer has ever done in your store? Like accidentally breaking expensive toys or blowing up the bathroom when there's a bunch of people in the store... i hope to hear about some of those things some day. Keep up the good work!
At the end of the video you mention Nov 17 to 19th. The retro website says Nov 22-24th 2024. We are planning our visit and wanted to confirm the dates.
I think they were talking about last years, cause they mention the X-Men cast. On their main channel they posted from that retro-toy con with the x-men cast. So the site is correct.
I’m scared to go to a toy show or con because I shit myself (literally) if I see people dressed-up. I would be so scared that I’d stay in my room until it was all done, and even then I’d be worried knowing there might be a Wookie or Transformer lurking outside. Sucks to be me.
I enjoyed the info on room trading all be it brief maybe on a future podcast maybe talk about room trading a little more, also on your retro toy con website you spelled Accommodation wrong on the hotel page
At Retro Toy Con, based on your knowledge, the 3 of you should each note your top 3 toy finds on the showroom floor. Not complicated or judgy but what you walk around and see. The top 3 toy finds should only apply to participating vendors. It should not apply to the lobby swap or room trading. Just a suggestion. Good luck!
Yes, NJ you can not pump your own gas. It's a stupid labor law to keep people employed. When I was in Maine you have the choice of self or full service. Full service is more per gallon.
I make a lot of money selling out of my garage! I put up flyers a week before I garage sell! And I do pretty well! But hey you all do you! But I go to toy cons to look for good deals though!
the whispering at the beginning made me think it would be funny but cool to do vtg tough/rare toys ASMR like the clicking from the turret on the Cobra H.I.S.S. ect ...DEW IT
The prices are actually determined by what the fanbase is willing pay for something, though.. You don't know how economics work, apparently. You're aware there is a hard limit to how many old toys are available, right?
What makes a good toy show? ( THIS WAS FILMED LAST YEAR. RETRO-TOY CON DATE: NOV 22-24 )
a variety of toys, old and new and price ranges.(mint to clapped out). toy adjacent merch and maybe some special quests if you can land 'em.
Wizard soap

Girls
Vintage!! love the vintage toys
These videos are amazing I’m more of a modern collector but hearing about the vintage toys is just amazing keep these up
Let's go another episode! Nice guys
Thanks for being here!
As a fan from California... I would LOVE to make it out for a RetroToyCon... one day...
Same!!!
I think it's great how successful the show has been. I think it's a combination of the genuine love you guys have for the toys we all grew up with, how you treat your sellers and buyers, the information we get on the toys and the personality's of the customers and staff. Thank you so much!
You guys need to talk about how you all met.
Appreciate the shows great content as always. Much love from Ireland 🇮🇪
Thanks for watching and commenting!
That nose whistle needs to get its own microphone.
Wait who was it?🤣🤣
Great discussion!

My friends and I decided today to make the commitment to drive out to SC from NM! Soooo Looking forward to this ! … you sold us
Smaller, more intimate venues are BEST by far :) ... Heads up - my daughter and her husband may be stopping by ToyFed today !!!
8:57 Sumed up *_perfectly_* with the vibe at Retro Toy Con. As someone who *really* doesn't like big crowds and hordes of strangers...I had a full-on immersively positive experience. Great stuff boys, keep it up!
I could listen to you guys shoot the shit all day! Another great podcast
It was so much Fun watching this podcast about the show we did last year. It was our first one. We drove from Missouri and did the room swap and killed it!
The dude on the left needs to back off the mic or get him a windscreen. The nose whistle and mouth noises are brutal. Love the show and the podcast.
Love the podcast and the main channel as well. Keep it up, guys!
One of the conventions that I regularly visit every summer actually had the lobby swap banned. The hotel didn't want to deal with it, and get in the way of their regular guests, even though I think like yours 98% of the guests are there for the convention
You guys need a cough button for Andy’s whistling nose! Good golly man!!
Great quality podcast here. The vibe is chill and the chemistry is good. Keep up the good work.
Great podcast! There’s a whistling in the microphone that starts around the 25 min mark. Or maybe someone is breathing into the mic.
Hands down my favorite Con every year. Been going since it started, and I absolutely love the after show toy swap. Usually make whatever I spent at the show back there.
I love your channel and would love to come visit the store one day. I was just wondering how many Retro Toy Cons have there been?
As I gazed into the eye of the Ninja Turtle and exchanged banter deep into the night I realized that I had been shown the meaning of life.
Loving You guys up in Canada! Watch your show all the time!
Thanks so much
Who got that nose whistle going? Lol
This isn't the first time either, get a nose strip or turn the gain down
I dont collect toys, or really anything, but I love your channel and this new podcast. Keep it up man.
Sounds like a blast!
Given the nature of this channel, the best toy show is the one where the vendors make the most.
That's exactly what we talk about.
Seriously my new favorite podcast episodes that I look forward to!
My question I’d like to hear you guys talk about is; What happens when a grail piece comes into the store that more than one of you wants for your personal collection? Who gets the piece?
There's a pecking order.
Retro sounds like it would be a ton of fun. I don’t own any toys, but just watched all of your episodes in 3 days. Looks like blast 😅

Was just in Toy Fusion near Sacramento couple Fridays ago, great selection
Really enjoying these episodes guys, so interesting. Keep them coming!
Thanks! Will do!
My friend and I are discussing a road trip from the Midwest to visit the shop and hit the con.
I use to be part of the podcast hosted by TFW2005 so we got the chance to interview a bunch of voice actors at Botcon and TFcon. Every voice actor I ever meet has been very cool and generous with there time.
Just bought my tix, coming with buddies
Definitely gotta go one day
This is the first time I’ve watched this podcast not at 2am as my baby daughter slept through a night easy.
I was just thinking while listening... I'd like to hear you guys talk about the struggles of wanting to keep something for personal collecting vs wanting to sell it for obvious business profitability.

We were not
You don't sound biased, you sound Alive.
Awesome video. Cool stories. I hipe to make it out there one year. YO JOE
My favorite holiday is Retro toy con
any other podcasts kind of like this? I like the tone of these guys.
No thing like me but me
I would say openness to all collector levels for beginners to experience. Sometimes you feel that the ones who done it for years would look down upon the inexperienced and also just variety of different stuff and not what is hot at the current moment
Cons in Las Vegas have hardly any vintage toys 😢
Audio is top notch!
of course, one of the best vendors in the federation is going to be biased. bragging rights are always earned!😉
1:00
Say it again for the people in the back! Lol
I'm with you too many times I've gone to big comic cons and only found a few vendors I bought from but if I go to a local vintage toy show I usually spend more money and find more stuff then a big comic con
dang i love these podcasts and just hearing folks rap about toys.
The Tick is my favorite super hero❤😂

Keep up the good work!
I remember getting in the elevator at a con that I was at and next to me was the micro machine guy that was pretty sweet
At the end of the video you mention Nov 17 to 19th. The retro website says Nov 22-24th 2024. We are planning our visit and wanted to confirm the dates.

Wish you guys were closer i feel the same im over all the funko pops. 😂 you guys got a great store and great videos
Thanks so much!
I'm looking to go to your convention this year. I might have to book a room. My birthday is on the 19th. I couldn't go last year because i was sick.
Man, I gotta go to the show to get my X-men 97 autographed by the cast
Dude... theyre not real, they be cartoon pretend people... autistic ??
I’m scared to go to a toy show or con because I shit myself (literally) if I see people dressed-up. I would be so scared that I’d stay in my room until it was all done, and even then I’d be worried knowing there might be a Wookie or Transformer lurking outside. Sucks to be me.

Great episode!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Please do a toy con in Las Vegas Nevada 🙏 most of are cons are comic books and artist
did you guys do show and tell at school as kids? what did you bring?
Quality on these podcast are great. Crazy you get 20k views when you only just started with 4 videos
It’s our second channel
I dont collect toys but this is all such an interesting watch. Good discussion guys!😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great podcast Guy's. Can we get a Toy Federation Flag please?
Yes, NJ you can not pump your own gas. It's a stupid labor law to keep people employed. When I was in Maine you have the choice of self or full service. Full service is more per gallon.
Do you guys ever take trips to the kane country toy show in Illinois?
We haven't yet. Pixel Dan just posted a video about that this morning on his Toy Hunts channel.
I'm guessing that's in the Chicago area?
congratulations for the 50k milestone
Thank you so much 😀 Now to get this channel to 50!
Comfy
I make a lot of money selling out of my garage! I put up flyers a week before I garage sell! And I do pretty well! But hey you all do you! But I go to toy cons to look for good deals though!
This store sells millions of dollars in toys. I think they’re fine.
Heyoooooooo from Kansas
I am gonna try to go, I wish it was before election day.
Don’t tell your toy con secrets….😂
Saying the best is bold Kayne County and Xenia , Oh shows would probably be above Retro just in my opinion 😉
Have you been to ours?
I like that Asthmatic Darth Vader sound effect in these podcasts! "Revenge of the Nose Whistle" You guys are awesome!
THANK'S GUY'S!!! ❤ LISTENING 2 ALL YOU ALL'S GREAT MIND TALK'S!! CAN NOT WAIT 4 THE NEXT SHOW!!!!❤😂🙏🫶👍❤😂
the whispering at the beginning made me think it would be funny but cool to do vtg tough/rare toys ASMR like the clicking from the turret on the Cobra H.I.S.S. ect ...DEW IT
:( the group rate is not available
Did the dates get moved for Retro? The website has 22-24th but at the end you reference the week before.
A lot more Andy looks..I like it.
Ok
Sadly they won't talk money in front of us. But i bet vendors can make 15 to 20k at a show. 26:56
Do any of the guests go to buy toys as well?
I enjoyed this podcast a lot, but was this recorded before last year's show?
Yes.
what did you think of tfcon in orlando last year
We did not go
Would you guys do an episode on horror collectibles?
you guys.
how good is X MEN 97 though.
🤘🤘🤘🤘
I think it's cool but I think toy prices are getting greedy. The fanbase eating it's own members.
The prices are actually determined by what the fanbase is willing pay for something, though.. You don't know how economics work, apparently. You're aware there is a hard limit to how many old toys are available, right?
Keep up the great work guys
