    What do you think about PlayStation's latest virtual reality headset? Do you think the PS VR2 will be the product that finally makes virtual reality a legitimate gameplay scheme? Let us know in the comments below!

      I think there's going to be a game design challenge between immersion and precision. Will the controls that give you immersion also give you the precision needed for gameplay without frustration? I guess we'll see what game designers can do.

      You're one of those "VR is a gimmick" guys, SIGH. PSVR 1 already legitimized VR years ago and certainly wasn't a gimmick, so you're like 6 years late to the table. If not for the success of PSVR 1, there would be no Quest, and no PSVR 2 obviously. Take the climbing mechanic that was raved about in the Horizon VR demo. That was already done in Robinson The Journey on PSVR 1. Was it a gimmick then, but it's legit now?
      Most of the issues people had with PSVR 1 were with tracking, but watching vids you could see most people were setting it up wrong, even Digital Foundry didn't have it set up properly, so of course if it's not set up right there are going to be problems. Luckily this time around there won't be a camera to worry about setting up, but for me setting up PSVR 1 was easy. Never had any tracking problems. I just read the instructions and made common sense adjustments.

      @@TheChallenger1000 agree. This sort of question is 6 years out of date.
      Truth is, no one legitimate themselves, is *still* questioning whether VR is a "gimmick". This guy is very late to the party.
      Tracking and controllers were the issue for PSVR 1. And it was still in its own right, a great success.
      PSVR 2 is going to be a massive hit and most people by the end of this console cycle, will be using one regularly.

    This was a terrible preview, for a wide variety of reasons. Anyone who isn't versed in VR should check out the CNET preview. More experienced gamers/VR enthusiasts should watch the ones by Virtual Reality Oasis or Eurogamer instead.
    First and foremost, the narrator wasn't even the one who played the games. This takes any natural enthusiasm or excitement about what was experienced out of the voiceover and makes it all feel very bland and underwhelming.
    Second of all, it barely touches on absolutely pivotal features like eye tracking and foveated rendering. These will revolutionize VR, and deserve more of a focus.
    Third, the "VR is a gimmick" narrative is incredible stale. It's true that some people don't really "get" VR, but many of us have been playing VR games for years. It's my preferred way to play videogames. It isn't mainstream yet, but this talk of "legitimacy" is some elitist BS. Just because something is currently niche doesn't make it illegitimate.
    Finally, it does a much poorer job than any other video I've seen of describing what you're doing in each game, and how it feels to be there.
    This video is my first exposure to this channel, and I'm really not impressed enough to stick around.

    VR has been a legitimate gaming medium for years now. Anyone who still thinks it's just a gimmick hasn't been present. VR has been a thing since Carmack showed off his hacked-together headset running his custom Doom3 build. That's a decade. My two girls have been playing VR daily for two years, at least. They showed it off to their neighbor friends who would come over to play VR with them, and now they have their own VR headsets. Now our girls and their neighbor friends play VR with them on the internet with other players they meet, all trying to one-up each other in different games and crafting sculptures and scenes together. This video mentions great things that are good for VR - but these things have already been around for years across different headsets and different games and experiences. The last people to know that VR has gone mainstream will be adults in their own little worlds. Kids are crazy about it, and they can't get enough of it. VR is here to stay, and anyone still calling it a gimmick is a neckbeard who will die alone.

      Most Flat scren games have gotten pretty stale theses days, thanks to VR. Just imagine an 8K display(4K per eye, until 8k per eye becomes a thing in the future), Near-human FOV(without a scubidiver boarder surround your eyes), while using a QD-OLED display, all built in a small, light weight flat visor. I know I know, this will take years to come to fruition. But it's going to happen eventually. VR isn't going anywhere. It's going to take a Stand alone headset(maybe a future Apple VR headset, or Quest 3 which is rumored to have PS4 grade visuals) for it to truly catch on. Most consumers wont want to buy a $500 game console and another $399 for a headset.
      The question is, how do you go back? how do you go back to some lame 2D/depthless 85" OLED screen hanging on your wall, when VR will ventually offer real-world stereoscopic 3D, Best in-class motion controls, Augmented mixed reality and pitting the Player IN the game. That doesn't always have to be the case, mind you. You can play in 3rd person VR, even fighting games from a spectactors perspective like you would front and center like on a TV, top-down, VR will even be able to project a giant 3D screen on your wall or at least offer a big 4K 3D movie theatre screen in the VR headset itself.
      VR is going to be absolutely wild, there's so much room for growth. So excited for PSVR2, but i can't help be annoyed be the tethered cable(immersion breaking) the ugly hulking/bulky front Visor and giant Ringed Controllers....
      Quest Pro is ahead of the game, in regards to it's aesthetics with it's flat front visor and Ringless VR controllers. Sony is playing catch up yet again.

I already have a psvr and a vive and am going to upgrade eventually but it's soooo hard to decide as each headset has advantages and disadvantages over the others. What's puting me off buying a psvr2 over a pimax/index is the 110 degrees fov which is only 10 degrees over the original. I remember the difference between the psvr1 and the vive wasn't hardly perceptible unless a reduced face cover was used on the vive . I know that the index even though down as 107 degrees on paper feels like 130 degrees to a lot of people that use it so am wondering how the psvr2 compares to the index and and HTC vive and psvr1?

I also think it will attract a lot of pcvr owners . I think only thing that lets it down for me is only 110 fov which is still last generation so it may not attract people like me that prioritise fov or already own a index/pimax headset as they have better fov. There are also people in between who use quest headsets because of their freedom for wireless capability - psvr2 may not be able to capture that audience unless they later release a wireless adaptor or psvr2.5 with this ability and I think the quest 3 will more popular for those. But overall with the quest3 and psvr2 coming out next year vr will become more mainstream to the masses .

    • @fireaza

      Motion sickness hasn't been an issue with the hardware itself for a LONG time. The issue with RE7 is that games like it that use artificial locomotion (i.e you walk using the thumbstick instead of your real legs) requires your body to go though a period of adaption before you can play these games without issues. It's like getting your "sea legs" when you start spending long periods of time on a boat. You can't jump in right away and start playing these games like you can outside of VR. This is as simple as playing one of these games for a bit and taking a break if you start to feel queasy. Do this enough times, and eventually, you'll be able to play as long as you wish.

    I'm interested in this headset, since I'm into VR already a few years and momentarily using a Quest 2, which delivers already an outstanding quality. But from what I saw so far, there is not much that more I can do with the Sony headset. Problem is that games like Horizon Call of the Mountain is bound to the Sony system. Having it as a PCVR experience will probably impress as much on a Quest 2 as on the Sony headset. It needs to justify the upgrade. To be able to use the Sony PS VR2 you also need the console and that makes everything so expensive. But if you already have the playstation, then I would definitely go for the headset as well.

    • @GreyMatterShades
      @GreyMatterShades 2 роки тому +4

      You make some very good points, especially about it being expensive to get both a PS5 and PSVR 2. That said, PSVR 2 does offer some features that aren't available anywhere else (currently), and give it advantages over the Quest 2.
      On a basic level, the resolution and field of view are both better on PSVR 2. It sounds like it's also lighter and more comfortable to wear. The biggest features it adds though are improved haptic/tactile feedback, and eye tracking.
      If you've had a chance to play a PS5 and use its controller (especially with the Astro's Playroom game), you'll know just how good the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers feel to use. They can give very subtle tactile feedback that greatly enhances immersion when games use them properly. PSVR 2 has the same features in its controllers. It also has haptic feedback in the headset itself that is supposed to enhance immersion and reduce the chances of users experiencing motion sickness.
      Eye tracking is the big game changer though. They barely touched on it in this video, which is unfortunate. It lets the game know exactly where you're looking, which can be used for menu navigation, and even interacting with other characters in a lifelike way. But the big benefit of eye tracking is that it allows developers to use Dynamic Foveated Rendering (DFR). This is a software optimization technique where games can focus all the detail on what you're looking at, and reduce detail in the periphery where you can't perceive it. Basically it just makes games run much, much better, which allows them to look much better. It's the reason why Resident Evil 8 looks the same in VR as it does on a flat screen.
      I can't overstate what a big deal that is. Normally getting games to work in VR requires either massive visual compromises, or much more powerful PCs to run them. DFR allows games to run in VR on the same devices as their flat screen counterparts without requiring nearly as much optimization by developers. This means it's far easier for developers to make VR versions of existing games, or make VR games look much more impressive than they normally would.
      You mentioned that it's a problem that Horizon Call of the Mountain is bound to the Sony system, but that's standard in the industry. Many games are exclusive to Meta Quest 2 as well. Sony is trying to sell their hardware, and the best ways for them to do that are by making it the best to use with unique features, and offering experiences only available on that hardware. That said, Sony has been porting more games to PC, so some of these VR games might get ported after 6 months to a year. The headset itself might see official PC support, but Sony will likely be selling it at a loss at launch, so it would only release it for PC once the cost of manufacturing dropped to the point where they were profiting on the hardware.
      Hopefully you found something informative/worthwhile in this very long comment. :D

The only alternative for PSVR 2 that I could see myself getting would be Valve's new headset, but it'll probably cost a fortune! 😖

    • @Visionoflegacy
      @Visionoflegacy Рік тому

      @@arteeb2301 I don’t feel like that’s fair at all. Seven hours is just the length of b-lining the campaign. Horizon as a franchise is full of side missions and other activities that will expand that out for the average player. They have also said they are attempting to make a game on par with Half Life Alyx, the Vr game everyone always holds up as the greatest VR game ever made. Why is them saying that somehow ignored?
      The combat space being locked is similar to Far Point, it’s a design decision that takes into account the presentation medium. I just don’t think “it’s designed differently than I would’ve expected” should automatically translate to “it’s going to be a smaller experience.”

    Issue with VR is...not enough good games. Make an MMO VR, that will cause it to go crazy.

      A VR mmo will happen, but they take a long time to make and a lot of money. So it's actually one of the last sort of games we'd see.

    • @GreyMatterShades
      @GreyMatterShades 2 роки тому +3

      There already is a VR MMO. It's called Zenith: The Last City. It's apparently pretty good.
      You're right about there not being enough good games though. I think that's going to be the biggest contribution of PSVR 2 to VR gaming. This video barely touched on eye tracking, but it's going to be revolutionary. It allows developers to use a technique called dynamic foveated rendering, which can allow VR games to look/perform just about as good as non-VR games (Horizon Call of the Mountain and Resident Evil 8 are evidence of this). That means it'll be far easier than before for developers to make VR versions of their games.
      Sony is going to push that hard, both with their own games, and through third party partnerships.
