Nice haul of syrup. We got just about a gallon or so in Eastern Ontario this year. Tapped 5 trees with 2 taps each. We have a few very large maples. It was not a great year. But we are happy with what we were able to collect. Nothing better than processing your own food. On with gardening! Much love from Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 ❤❤❤❤

I used to love maple sugaring. My grandfather made syrup on a commercial scale. I was only able to help for a few years. Later I tapped the maple in my yard and got some impressive yields. I no longer have access to trees. I want to take some vacation time and visit my off grid property to make syrup.

I've done this with sugarcane! My cousin uses old sack cloth. Then when he's done, he cleans them up for the next year. I seen this maple syrup done on a Maine channel, their vat was bigger on the sides by about 10-12 inches deep and just as long as yours. The fire box was about the same, but they had 4 guys taking turns to keep it going. I would have to draw what my Cousins looked like!! The firewood part was made out of firebrick and regular brick. Sounded like a Jet Engine was running beside you. You had to wear plugs(hearing protection)!!! And the table with the sides and 4 different chambers was about 5ft wide by 8ft long! We made a ton of syrup that day!!!

Jay, great video. I'm sorry if I came off as abrasive in your last video. Did you find the trees on the back side of your barn produced more sap? If so maybe because there roots are more exposed to the cold nights and warm days? Also did you ever consider taping trees that are easier to acess with your mule?
We use to make maple syrup with just 1gal jugs on the trees and clean/new 32gal trash cans for storage. We would wait until the storage was full and a warm day coming then that morning fire up and boil for about 16hrs.

Honestly I have been having trouble getting motivated to work on some projects.....but it is just ups and downs like all things in life.
The trees behind the barn didn't produce very well three years ago, so I didn't tap them last year ...but this year I wanted more taps and these trees are good size, so I did, and they did very well. We actually went down to the main driveway to our property and tapped 5 big trees down there this year. They all produced very good as well. I'm excited to do even more next year.

It has been a while since we have heard people saying they had been unsubscribed......but.....if they get unsubbed, then they may never notice and we never know about it either. I do know that we see a good amount of subs drop off a couple times a year for some reason

Did you ever notice how sticky your eyelashes get when you have had your head in the steam from the boiling sap?? I remember that from a kid when my dad boiled syrup.
